Title: Crimea map retextured, retowned, revillaged
Post by: cyberolas on June 09, 2011, 11:28:22 AM
Hi pilots!
I´ve retextured the Crimea map with photographic textures.
The most weak point in the past was displaying of cities, which has a low quality and 3D objects wasn´t located correctly.
The cities are displaying in combination of several textures now and there are cultivated fields in different scale around the cities.
A little bit unsolved is displaying of river shore and some of beach. The rivers are disappearing in some cases and shores are little bit raw. If there is a someone who can or who know how to fix this , it would be great.

 Installation:

    Copy the content of _Tex folder into your Sturmovik _Tex folder
    Copy the Crimea folder into Crimea folder in game (all rewrite), if you want to have retextured map. In this case don´t add any new line to all.ini file.
    If you want to save map as new, create Crimea_RRR folder and copy content of Crimea folder into it. Add line "Crimea_RRR  Crimea_RRR/load.ini" to all.ini file.

I recommend to fly with Cloudtype=2 and higher.

Have a nice flight!

Absolutely amazing. I just had a long flight on it.

Make sure you use UP3 while flying this, as it has the improved lighting mod included.

Crisp scenery, awesome cities, absolutely no performance problems.

Again, amazing work.

That YT clip looks very nice.  8)
I think the Crimea map is one of the most retextured maps. I've seen several versions over the years. I used to have Slades' but will switch now and then between yours and his.

Post by: Uufflakke on June 13, 2011, 04:39:47 AM
@Walter_Solito: I got the horseriders from Aviaskins about a year ago I guess. Don't know who the creator is actually and in which thread I found it. There were about two or three different riders with machinegun and rifle and also a WIP rider with a working machinegun. But I have to say I repainted the horse and added a saddle and bridle to it. Remember there is already a rider included in the objects list: it came with Mixx' Khalkin Gol map.

Something else: as the Black Sea map is an extended version of the Crimea map it is very easy to use Cyberolas textures for that map.
Create a folder BlackSea in your Maps folder and copypaste the Crimea load.ini into it. That's it.
The only thing is that houses are not always lined up along the roads on the city and village textures. But to me it doesn't look annoying.

And another thing. With the new textures I noticed the stock Crimea Rock doesn't fit in the landscape. So I repainted it to make it match with surrounding textures.
I don't think Cyberola will have problems with this repaint  'cause I left his textures etc. untouched.
Download link here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?e8k6v7il3u7cc0v (http://www.mediafire.com/?e8k6v7il3u7cc0v)

I don't know the filestructure of the other modpacks but in UP3.0 you need to drop the Crimea folder in: #UP#/STD/3do/buildings/

 (http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd389/Uufflakke10/13d069c1.jpg)

Small note: the stock Crimea Rock has been repainted before (by VPMedia?). I used that version and only repainted the green parts. The rocky parts I left untouched because they look very nice and fits in very well.   ;)

So go back to UP 2.01
This map works fine with up 3, you have done something incorrectly.
Could you describe exactly how you installed it?

For my own fun I 'bumpmapped' Cyberolas' retextured Crimea map.
For those who might be interested I would like to share it.
Extract the 'Bumph File Crimea' folder an drop all the files into _Tex/East/Crimea.
(It won't overwrite any of Cyberolas' textures, I left them completely untouched.)

http://www.mediafire.com/?rpc55ikdast1ma9 (http://www.mediafire.com/?rpc55ikdast1ma9)

This is how Crimea looks when bumped:

(http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd389/Uufflakke10/95ef2372.jpg)

(http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd389/Uufflakke10/4a52cba8.jpg)

(http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd389/Uufflakke10/e0cc3dc6.jpg)

In case you might think it's a bit too bumped, well that's just the way I like it.   ;D
You can always edit or delete the ones you don't like. The way to the recycle bin is very short.  ;)

You mention water problems. You have only changed map_T, actors.static and load.ini, so surely these are stock map issues? Unless you want to fix them, of course.
Btw, there is no need to include the rest of the files in the maps\Crimea download - they are no different from stock so won't be affected.

:cheers:

Hi pilots!
I´m very glad to see these topics (screenshots from Crimea map, coop campaign Crimea Pawns II). I have some news:
I´m finishing my work on next east map - Kuban. It´s logical - Kuban is following by Crimea and these textures is same or
very similar like in Crimea map. Some things are different:
 I made better airfields-different textures for some airfields, buildings and settlement and so on.
 Some Towns is more historical - for example Novorossijsk - his typical shape with green wedge in the midle of town-I created
the special texture for this. I created little changes in terrain. But all dynamic and static campaign have been functional!
  Thanks for your favor pilots!
P.S.: I saw one version of Crimea map (by Uufflake) with really large actor. static file. O.K.! My way is opposing. My actor.static
is absolutely FPS friendly!

Title: Re: Crimea map retextured, retowned, revillaged

How to install map for DBW:
1.unpack zip...
2.rename "MODS" directory to "DBW"
3.Copy to DBW adresar in game

Result: DBW/mapmods/maps/_Tex - way for textures
          DBW/mapmods/maps/Crimea - way for load.ini, map_T....and so one

Thanks for Your help.
Title: Re: Crimea map retextured, retowned, revillaged

I think this is screen from Cyberolas (repaint) Crimea map.
Have you got forest=3 in conf.ini? This activated trees in towns from actor.static file.
Have you got hangar mod? One big hangar (what I used in this repaint) is from this mod.
You can make better screens with Cloudtype=2 or 3 or 4... in mission file - if you want.
Can you send some another screens? Or - can you write name of this town? I will send my screen from this place.
Thanks.

These look absolutely wonderful!

Please does anyone know a way to include them in HSFX?
Title: Re: Crimea map retextured, retowned, revillaged
Post by: asheshouse on February 13, 2013, 08:05:57 AM
You need to set up a MODS folder in HSFX.

For maps installation (folder names as in my installation).

Create folder like:

c:\Games\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 - HSFX6\MODS\MapMods

Copy maps folder from root\Files to MapMods
This has the all.ini files which you need to setup new maps - not needed for re-paints

Within c:\Games\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 - HSFX6\MODS\MapMods\Maps
install folders _Tex and Crimea folder from the maps download

Also, by editing the all.ini, you can change the order and displayed names of maps in the drop down menus.

You need to copy a few more things from root\Files into MODS to get new aircraft, ships etc working in HSFX. For new maps or re-populated maps, you may sometimes find that some objects or _Tex files are missing which prevents missions being saved in FMB. Only solution is to track down the missing ones and get them installed. Ask if any maps don't work.

The way HSFX will work is to load the first copy of any duplicate files it finds. The search order is MODS folder, Files folder, then SFS files. So the original Crimea Map files in the SFS files are not overwritten, just ignored. If you want to revert to clean HSFX just rename MODS to -MODS, then it will not load.

In his first post, cyberolas states: "I recommend to fly with Cloudtype=2 and higher"

First of all, I am wondering if he means 'TypeClouds'...? This is how the parameter looks in the config file:

eventlog=eventlog.lst
eventlogkeep=0
SubTitlesLines=0
3dgunners=1
TypeClouds=1 <------------This one??
SkipParatrooperViews=1
ScreenshotType=1
jpgQuality=1.0

If this is indeed the parameter he is talking about, I am confused about his value setting. In all my years of playing IL-2 (stock), I can only recall two TypeClouds settings....0 and 1. '0' was for the 'old' clouds and '1' was for the 'new' clouds.

I've never heard of a '2' setting or even higher, as cyberolas mentions.

Can anyone elaborate on these higher (above 1) TypeClouds settings? Do they really do anything? Is it some sort of mod?

BTW, I'm using HSFX 6.

Title: Re: Crimea map retextured, retowned, revillaged
Post by: SAS~Gerax on February 15, 2013, 10:05:37 AM
This inside a missions mis file is meant:

Quote
[MAIN]
  MAP ag_Lapland/load_Aut.ini
  TIME 7.0
  CloudType 0
  CloudHeight 1000.0

and this cloud type can be 0 to 6 AFAIK.
when you choose Rain/type in the missions menu
you get CloudType 5 in the mission file.
0 should be clear weather,
1 good, 2 hazy and so on.

jpgQuality=1.0

This might be a bit to the side of the thread, but I noticed these lines in your conf,ini. I searched and did not find them in my version, so I was wondering what they do?

I suppose some of the lines would appear to be be self-explanatory, but that doesn't mean you will notice anything unless more explanation is given about what you're supposed to see.

... I believe Aviar gave the right explanation here:

"In all my years of playing IL-2 (stock), I can only recall two TypeClouds settings....0 and 1. '0' was for the 'old' clouds and '1' was for the 'new' clouds."

AFAIK, this setting has no effect nowadays, provided you have a clouds mod in your game ...  ;)

It's always located in your maps folder, e.g. #DBW/MapMods/Maps, there has to b e a folder named _Tex.

You needa create a _Tex folder in the map folder. There go all your textures acc to map modders' instructions and additional stuff like water mods/trees/cloud tex etc.
As of now your maps are loaded by a stock set of maps and tex coded in SFS files, I'd assume..

Post by: SAS~Tom2 on April 12, 2013, 03:33:38 PM
Yes, sorry for late reply, was watching a movie with corrupted eyes lol.
Yes, just create a folder named _Tex inside your maps folder and copy the textures in there as advised by cyberolas, in general as advised by the map modder/maker.

Keep in mind to also add the needed antry inside the all.ini text file. If you want to overwrite the stock map, you don't need to add any strings, just insert the map in "maps" and the textures in _Tex.
Done..

Cheers

Tom

I'm new here and I was attracted by this wonderful repainting job!
If I understand correctly this mod works only with UP3, is it possible to install it also on HSFX 6 version? And if yes, in which way? I have looked for this question on the forum with no result, I'm sorry if the question was already made by someone else...
Thanks alot!

This you understood wrong.  ;D

You can install maps in EVERY games version but
you must have all needed textures and objects.

from several thousand meters above the ground one can see all four corners of it.

...and also don't forget most maps look far less attractive at several thousand meters high. Sturmovik - both the aircraft and game were conceived for low, ground attack missions ... so it's not a surprise that maps look best at low altitude. Besides, you gotta give map makers and retouchers a break sometimes. With small maps you can at least devout effort into making the maps as pixel perfect as possible. They're small, but the results can be in inverse proportion to their size.

Hi,

Please could someone tell me which exact folder the downloaded CrimeaRRR files should be copied into if i am running  4.12.2m + SAS Modact 5.3 + latest C.U.P. World At War?

I currently have the _Tex and Crimea and all.ini copied to:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\IL 2 Sturmovik 1946\#SAS\MAPMODS\MAPS

But the Crimea map that opens in FMB does not look like the beautiful one pictured in the original post/You Tube video?  In factin the Load Maps list it says it is the stock Crimea Ubisoft one?

I have not changed or created any new folders from the downloaded map files.

Any help appreciated?

Thank you.

How to fix these squares on this map?
I asked a similar question in the technical help topic (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,59734.msg658063.html#msg658063 (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,59734.msg658063.html#msg658063)), but so far no one has answered there, so I will try to ask here.

The same with the winter version (from LalRhone).
I'm playing on the laptop. Switching from integrated (Intel HD Graphics 4000) to discrete (NVIDIA GeForce 625m) and back is useless.
I have Il 2 Sturmovik 4.12.2 (russian) + BAT (all addons to V3.4 Linebacker)
Sorry for my bad english.

First of all I would like to thank for this beautiful retextured map! And I have a very interesting question. In fact I created the winter version of Crimea map for my own use, having taken textures and entries from other winter maps and maded liquid water instead of the ice one. But the grassy runways I have are those for summer maps, namely green. The question is how to make the #SAS/STD/3do/Airfield/groundWinter/AirPrtGrnd_256 work for my winter version of the map? What is to be changed in the map load.ini? Otherwise it make my map non-realistic - snowy landscape with green airfield(( Please help

You can use DirtSnow object:

http://www.mediafire.com/file/u86hew6ex9c8zfk/myDirtSnow.7z/file (http://www.mediafire.com/file/u86hew6ex9c8zfk/myDirtSnow.7z/file)

with this static.ini entry:

[buildings.Plate$myDirtSnow]
Title           myDirtSnow
Mesh            3do/airfield/myDirtSnow/AirfieldS/mono.sim

Many thanks!!! I will try it as soon as possible!

But anyway I wanted to learn what line in the map load.ini answers to selection of summer or winter runway? There must be something  :)

There is nothing in load.ini directly showing winter or summer airfield.
You must remove summer airfield object in mapbuilder and then place there the winter one.

Oh, I see! And I will never manage to do this, cause I did not even know that such map builder exists  :)
