Title: North Korea 1:1 version 1.41 *update 05-18-11*
Post by: Checkyersix on April 26, 2011, 03:59:43 AM
Hey all.

Thought I'd share this. Here's a new version of my North Korea 1:1 map. This pack contains 6 maps, representing different phases of the war in Korea:

Summer, 1950
Fall, 1950
Winter, 1950-51
Spring, 1951
Stalemate Summer, 1951-53
Stalemate Winter, 1951-53

Aside from different textures / trees, each map has slightly different changes, including historical airfield placement:

Osan Airbase does not appear until the stalemate.
The Antung Complex airfields do not appear until Winter, 1950

Also, the Stalemate maps represent a well developed MLR, including:

MASH units.
Supply bases.
Communist Supply Caches hidden near the front.
Extensive Communist AAA positions at bridges, crossroads, and industrial sites.
New front lines and outposts using trench textures adapted from UP~Boomer's WWI maps.

Other changes include:

Bump-mapped rice paddies and town textures for a more gritty and detailed look.
Grey town textures for a less muddy, more urban look over cities.

Old missions will still work with these maps, but there might be problems because of the missing airfields, so testing will be required. All airfields are present on the Stalemate maps, 1951-53. I've made this a separate thread for people who still want access to the older version.

Mirror: http://www.gamefront.com/files/20387657/CY6_North_Korea_v1.41.rar

- v 1.41
- fixed the roads around Panmunjom.
- fixed black water bug on winter 1950 map.
- labeled camps and M.A.S.H. units on MLR maps.

*now with all necessary textures, trees, and reduced texture sizes.

Have fun!

CY6.

Checkyersix,

Thank you for a very nice enhancement of your North Korea Map. Having maps appropriate for the different stages of the war is very much welcomed. This map is one of my favorites and the creativity, skill and attention to detail that you have put into it is very much appreciated.

Cheers,

Riptide

Great job and thank you !

But I have a problem with the CY6_North_Korea_Fall_1950 version.

The map does not load, and the screen becomes black. The windowe says :

I tryed it on a Modact 3 install. Anyone else has this same problem ?

Yes, the only one in the series that did not work for me was the fall 1950 map. I did check the CY6_North_Korea directory and found that there is a loadf.ini. There are variations of the "load" file for each season (e.g. loads.ini for summer). So, I believe there is some other problem with this map. Soon, I suspect we will get some updated files to correct the problem with the fall 1950 map.

Cheers,

Riptide

There's a corrected version in the download link with all the textures added. Try it out if you haven't already and see if that works. If not check your log.list file, there might still be a texture missing.

hi Chek; the 1950 summer version is intended to replace the "old one" loading with the CY6_North_Korea/load.ini or the two, as well as the winter version, can coexist?
Firt answer should be negative I guess, due to the same name:CY6_North_Korea/load.ini....

Hi, I'm realy glad to see a new version of your map. MASH-es are what I wos looking for. Thank's m8.

Here's my feedback after short testing:
For first: here are some bugs I found, I think you should be awared about them:
1. Water on Winter 1950 map is black - fixable by setting temperature to 0 or more in load.ini though
2. Water on both Winter maps is hard and soilid, you can even land on it - fixable by changing camuflage to SUMMER in load.ini, what we don't want however.
3. There's:
<-----<-->
<____>__>
>____<>>>
<>>>___->
bug on both MLR maps on railway/trenchline crossing South of Panmunjom - you know what I mean.
4. Runway at K-55 Osan-ni AB is bugged - rynway markers are to close to each another, so the runway is 400m long for AI and only 1/6 of runway is used.
That's all I found. The MASH units are awesome - finally some use fore Bell47.

After few evac actions with bell I want to suggest something:
1. Mark MASH units on map like you marked hills on frontline, so it'll be easier to find them for mapmakers.
2. If possible, add airbases on MASH helipads in cas of easier mission making - not important suggestion though, cause AI doesn't fly chopers anyway.
3. Change texture between trench lines at 38 pararell on MLR maps into some dark mud texture (maybe with some craters) so it would realy look like no-man's
land.
4. Add some village at Panmunjom :P - it was not only meeting place of Military Armistice Comission. What is there now is how it looked after Korean War. There should be just a village on 1950 maps and tents instead of baracks on MLR maps (MAC worked in tents outside of village, to the north from Seul-Keasong road.

Also few suggestions to Comand and Control mod:
1. Make RESCAP object require landing for some time (10-15 s maybe) in order to capture the soldier. Also make the soldier shout "got you in sight" later - When I tried rescap mission on Heartbreak ridge (you know how does the terrain look like there) he said he was to the north long before I could see him.
2. Maybe add some Medi Evac object, which will require landing close to the victim (30-15 m) for, let's say, 20-30 s, and then unloading him on MASH object.

Thank's again for a great map. Looking forward to UP 3.0 release as well, so I can create some medievac missions on MLR.

I've been watching this thread and I have a question

I have installed Modact 3.02 and the Korean Jets pack along with the F9F2 Panther jet...

but when I installed this map pack..and it installed fine, I can load the maps in the FMB. all good so far - BUT -

I cannot save any missions that I build on these maps - they just wont save...

Does anyone have a cure?

this is actually the correct thread for your post, whereas your other post is blatantly ignoring AMT team's request for mod-specific posts only.
always read forum posting guides and requests before just posting random, double-posts. not cool on any forum.....and SAS is no exception....i'll be removing your other post once you acknowledge having read my stories... ;)
Title: Re: North Korea 1:1 version 1.4

well I used your search function to no avail..I saw no mention of the FMB mission save problem at all.

thanks for taking the time to explain your website and so on - more chastising than assistance though.

so I need some objects added to Modact to make the map work but no mention of it by the map creator or in any installation tutorial I see (all about adding planes and buttons) and no more idea what to add now than yesterday to get the CY6 N.Korean map to work.

thanks man, much appreciated - I'll try to behave meself

That's all I found. The MASH units are awesome - finally some use fore Bell47.

The runway is designed that way so that thunderjets can use it. Set them to take off from the East and they'll use the whole runway. This is like it was in real life. Otherwise they'd start in the middle of the runway and not have enough room. I'll look into the other stuff.

After few evac actions with bell I want to suggest something:
1. Mark MASH units on map like you marked hills on frontline, so it'll be easier to find them for mapmakers.
Might do this.

Quote
2. If possible, add airbases on MASH helipads in cas of easier mission making - not important suggestion though, cause AI doesn't fly chopers anyway.
It's easier to just set the takeoff point on the helipad yourself. Forcing a marker there would probably be more difficult for mission makers to use.

Quote
3. Change texture between trench lines at 38 pararell on MLR maps into some dark mud texture (maybe with some craters) so it would realy look like no-man's
land.
Not historical. I've looked at lots of pictures of the trenchlines in korea and they were usually grass covered and green in the summer. There was a "no-man's land" but it wasn't like WWI, the shelling wasn't as extensive so it wasn't a mud-pit like we usually think off. Hill outposts like Porkchop Hill were extensively shelled and fought over, which is why they stick out.

Quote
Maybe, but it's minor detail.

1. The idea for RESCAP is more that you fly a covering flight over the rescue chopper. The AI can't land so requiring it would defeat the purpose. I might change the rules for player-flown helis. The "got you in sight" distance is around 3000m, which makes sense if you think of a survivor looking for an aircraft. He would see and hear you coming long before you could spot him.
2. An interesting idea, I might consider it.

Ok, updated, fixed some of those issues.

The water near the shore is sometimes "solid", which is a difficult problem to fix. I'll see what I can do but I might not be able to solve it. Further from shore it works properly.

The water near the shore is sometimes "solid", which is a difficult problem to fix. I'll see what I can do but I might not be able to solve it. Further from shore it works properly.

I found an easy way to fix solid water - try changing WINTER (upper -case) to winter (lower case) in load.ini - it does work, at least for me.

And sorry for posting the C&C related stuff in this thread, you're right, it just got into my mind and was related to subject, so I wanted to share it in the same post.

Thanks for the patch CY6.

EDIT: I found something strange - M.A.S.H and Camp labels don't appear, though I checked and they are in texts1951 file with correct coordinates. I have no idea why don't they load.

EDIT2: OK, I found out how to solve that issue - for everyone who's having this issue - go to your root/#SAS(MODS for all modact users)/MAPMODS/maps/Cy6_North_Korea, and find the file "texts1951.txt" there. Open it with your notepad and go to the bottom of the list - you should see 3 "M.A.S.H." labels and 3 "Camp" labels coordinates. Over them (7th line, counting from the bottom) is an empty-label line, containing only coordinates (the same as in the next, "Camp" line) and font information, without label name. This one seems to prevent everything below from loading. Simply delete it, save file, start game, load map and when you zoom-in on MLR area you will see the Camps and M.A.S.H.es labled as they should be.

Make sure there aren't any other entries labeled [buildings.Plate\$airplate]. I've had that problem before. If you can't find it, you'll have to look for Canon's object mods. You might need to download his channel map, not sure...

For several days, I have been trying to down your updated version of this map, but I have not been able to get Mediafire to work. I tried downloading something else at Mediafire and couldn't get that to work either. Could you set up a download with File Front? I have had this problem with Mediafire before but not with File Front.

Greetings All,

I'm new to the modded IL2 game, but I have recently reinstalled my IL2 1946 and updated it to v4.09m - installed SAS MODact 2.3 beta and buttons v8.7 (I play off-line only, and I wanted to be able to put together a Korean War version of the game - also, I believe that the Sabre and MiG pack is only 4.09m compatible, and I didn't want to get into the Ultra Pack or HSFS).

I downloaded and installed CY6's North Korea Map (v1.41), but was unable to save missions. I downloaded the static.ini checker utility and it came up with a list of missing objects from the following objects packs:

Houses of 46
LAL Fortifications Pack
LAL Rhone's Hanger Pack
Canon's Misc Objects
Hanger Mod
Hanger Mod 2
Egypt Objects
Egypt Monuments
Cal Mods Tarmacplate

My questions are:
1.  Are these objects packs included in Boomers "Object Pack in SFS Files for SAS MODact 3.06/HSFS" (for v4.101)?

2.  If so, is this pack also compatible with v4.09m?  (The instructions call for the objects to be put into the "*SAS*" folder, but I don't see that folder in my game folders).

3.  If not, does anyone know where I can download these objects packs from?

Any help is much appreciated - thanks all,

RodA

Post by: SAS~Tom2 on November 10, 2011, 07:51:55 PM
Hello RodA,

IMHO it would be easier to do one of two things:
Either go for the 4.101m mod version of Dark Blue World..all necessary info here:

http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/board,189.0.html

There you will have the F-86s and Mig-15s (a.o.) with the latest SAS DBW and Aviator Mod Team upgrades.

It will not be necessary to install additional maps for Korea or object packs since these are already "in", making gaming much easier. You will need to patch your clean IL-2 installation to patches 4.09m, 4.10m and 4.101m..all available here:
http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,8528.0.html

From there you can proceed with DBW.

Or you stay with 4.09m and go for a Korean realism mod called Histomod with the same jets +/- a few more and less which DBW features and focus on a bit more complex engine operations and realism mods such as oxygen mask activation, jettison stores options and dump fuel.
With that installation you will have the Korea maps as well.

You will need a clean game patched to 4.09m and the Ultra pack 2.01 modpack, which comes in a torrent download. From then you can apply the Histomod files via JSGME (mod activator inside UP 2.01).
You will need to register at the Histomod site for the download threads and links, everything else including readmes and instructions + UP 2.01 is available at the French Histomod site incl. English support:

http://histomodforum.forumactif.net/f4-le-mess

The object pack by Boomer is not available anymore. You could of course also register at Histomod, download the Histomod Objects file and activate those via JSGME.
This object pack includes all necessary files as well.

Both alternatives require ca. one afternoon of reading, IMHO the Histomod install is slightly easier, but getting planes to take off is slightly more difficult (rampstarts aim at the real F-86 procedure). Both modpacks are fun.

Hope that was not too confusing, Good Luck!

Tom

Hi Tom,

Your suggestions are much appreciated and I'm sure would be the smart way to go (but, I've never been told I was too smart!)      :)

I was hoping to be able to avoid the big mega packs, and the overage charges I would be getting hit with on my broadband plan for the large downloads.

Actually, if I could just get the Korea map to work, I'd be happy (for now, anyway).  I've got the Sabre and the MiG working on the default maps, and the Forgotten Countries Mod as well.

Also, apparently Boomer has repackaged a new set of objects packs (posted Oct. 21, 2011)
Here:
http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,19227.0.html

I've downloaded the first of the 4 packs, but haven't had the time to try to install it yet, so I'm still not sure if it's compatable with 4.09m or not at this point.

Again though - thanks for your response and suggestions.

Rod

You may be missing an object in your static ini.  If you have the Universal Static Ini. Checker, use it in this manner:
(b)  With static checker press or click missing missing objects.
(C) Static checker will now direct you to locate your  Actors file which is in your " SAS or Mods", MAPMODS folder/Maps/North Korea 1.1 .
(d) Stay in the ini. Checker.  In North Korea 1.1 , click or press actors file and it will show you what actors/objects you are missing for the map.

Hi and welcome..

http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,42857.0.html

For maps we need an error log, the game version etc.. ;)
If you cannot save, you miss objects. All info in above thread and...here:
Then info is a bit hidden in these posts, replies 10 and 53 will help you get maps into ModAct.53. e.g.
