Title: adjust level sounds using FREE AUDIO EDITOR
Post by: Paulo Hirth on October 11, 2009, 07:17:31 AM
How to Change the Volume on a WAV using Free Audio Editor

Go to "File" then "Open." Double-click on the WAV file you want to adjust to open it.

Go to "Effect" then "Amplify." Type in a number less than 100 to decrease the volume by that percent. For example, if you want the WAV to be half as loud type "50." Type in any number greater than 100 to increase it. After choosing the volume click "OK."

Go to "File" then "Save" to save the changes. This new volume is permanent and will be the same across all programs.

This simple little exe will batch convert all sounds in the Samples folder from 22,050 to 44,100 or vice-versa.
http://www.wavosaur.com/ (http://www.wavosaur.com/)

Tools/Batch/pick source & destinatioon folders/pick Function/Run--> takes a few seconds
For 22,050 --> 44,100 pick Re sample 44,100.
For 44,100 --> 22,050 pick Re sample 22,050.  :)

This program has 2 versions, the free and masters.
The free version is awesome and I'm using it. ;D
I was thinking, if the free is so good, what kind of software can be the masters?! :o
Wave Pad Audio Editor:
http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/index.html (http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/index.html)

Almost forgot... This program is a very good tool for editing sounds.
You can cut, merge, save in a lot of formats, apply filters, equalize, apply effects and edit samples byte to byte.

My 2 cents.

Thanks for hooking us up with the tools guys !

Paulo
I have a question ,
I didnt post in the tech help becuse its reguarding the Level Trim tool.
I downloaded the tool and did a search on how to use it but came up with nothing.
I dont know how to use the Lev Trim tool.
I do know which Wave sounds I want to change and were they are.
The only thing I want to do is reduce the volume of some sounds and increase others.
Is it only the Wave sound , or do I have to modify the .prs ?
I dont want to change anything  other than the level that they are heard in the game.
How do I know the current level and how do I change it to a new level with out changing other values ?

Thanks for your time.

Well it all depends on what you want to do :

_You want to edit only one (or several different) wav sounds :

I use Audacity do do that :

http://download.cnet.com/Audacity/3000-2170_4-10058117.html

_ You want to edit ALL the wav files of say, an engine, and give them the same value :

then edit the SPL value of the corresponding .prs file. Keep in mind that SPL values are given in decibels, and that you will only hear a small difference if you increase or decrease the value by 3 db steps.

example 103db is sligthly louder than 100db

In the example below if you set the spl value (in red) to say, 116; the engine will sound louder

[common]
mode         relobj pos
type         mixer
infinite     1
EAXMix       0
occlusion   -200
occllf       0.25
eaxroom      10
obstruction -200
obstrlf      0.25

mutable      1

[spl]
110

[samples]
DB605_starter.wav
DB605_1000.wav
DB605_1500.wav
DB605_2000.wav
DB605_2700.wav
DB605_2701.wav
xDB605_1000.wav
xDB605_1500.wav
xDB605_2000.wav
xDB605_2700.wav
DB605_dmg.wav
1.wav
x2.wav

Of course and as usual you will BACK UP your files and folders FIRST ... ;)

Thanks Mick !

Say I have a engine sound that I really like , every thing sounds great but I would like the start up to be a little louder only in the external view.

I also have a 50cal pack that I really like , but is too loud ( for my personal taste ) in external view at close range.
Internal sounds nice , as it does from a distance.

What would you recomend ?
Is Audacity very complex ?
I dont ever intend on using it for anything other than adjusting the wave volume .

Thanks again for the help.

"...but I would like the start up to be a little louder only in the external view."

Well as far as there is only one kind of start .wav files, I mean there is no difference between internal and external startup sequence wav sounds (unlike engine sounds where the x files are for external sounds), so I am afraid that if you increase the volume externaly, it will also increase it from inside the cockpit...

So I am not that sure that you can differentiate internal and external start-up sounds, I am sure people like Jafa can tell you ...

Same with what you want to do with your 50cal pack, may be this is doable through the .prs file but I don't know how to do it ...  :-[

Audacity isn't that easy to master but well if you only have a few files to modify then you could send them to me by email and I'll do my best ... check your PMs ... ;)

Thanks so much Mick !
I really appreciate the help and the fact that you would take the time to work on them for me. ;D
I was able to bumble through it last night , with your advice  I finally figured out how to adjust the volume on the waves.
Im very happy with the way it sounds now.
With some trial and error I played with the gain and got everything accomplished .
You are right , Audacity isn't  easy , for someone like me anyway.

I had trouble with Audacity closing due to errors , and its far more tool than I need.
I think Ill keep messing with

;D Shure can dude.... here is the internal of MY db 605 -air . start . begin- prs here you will see ive added an extra start up sound just for external perposes "X"DB605_starter.wav in editing the wav ive got it at the desired audio level and as you can see here ive added "distance" values to it so it cannot be heard over a certin distance  , make sense , im petty shure that if all you want to do is add value to say a start sound then you probably can.

DB605_starter.wav
xDB605_starter.wav

env      8

[sample.xDB605_starter.wav]

[sample.xDB605_starter.wav.dist]

minlo 0
minhi 0.3
maxlo 20
maxhi 100
value 0.6
pmin  1.0
pmax  1.0

You must unselect "encode to mp3" and "analize", because will be you to set the sound level, +4 or -4... good luck.

I was wondering if someone could give a brief description of what each value changes in a prs file. I'm trying to get a best of sound pack to work with 4.10 I took battle sounds, jivers total sound mod and distance sound mod and made a single pack. Now; I can't use the class files with 4.10 and took what I thought was the best sounding samples and I believe all the proper prs files that correlate with the wave files and am struggling to get the levels right. Heres an example.

[sample.metal_noise_02m.wav]
spl 110
infinite 1  -------------------------------Does infinite mean it controls looping?
controls flatter  -------------------------This I have no Idea
env 2 8 ---------------------------------What is this

[sample.metal_noise_02m.wav.flatter]
minlo 0--------------------------------Example of what all these do?
minhi 0.6
maxlo 2.0

maxhi 3.0
value 0.70
pmin  0.9
pmax  1.1

Could some one just please give a brief description of what these all do for a modding noob.

minhi 0.6
maxlo 2.0
maxhi 3.0
value 0.70 .............   audio strength   in game , do not confuse this with volume , it is not
pmin 0.9   .............   these are awkward to explain as they like many other values in the prs have differant cosequenses for differant prs , in a engine prs they should be left alone but I somtimes alter        them to  create a differant pitch.OK

The .50 cals in all my Navy planes is very loud and can not be adjusted with the objects volume control knob.
This is because of a sound mod I installed but I can not remember which one.
In my mods fold I have the following:

any one have any idea which mod could be cranking the .50 cal volume up so high?
its louder than the motor. This volume level problem is absent in all other aircraft except navy planes
The .50's in P-47 and P-51, P-40's has not been affected.

hi folks -
well, it's been a long time since i fiddled about with sounds, and with the new feature of 4.12.2, where you can add your own samples/presets, i so far have had a 0% success rate.
i suspect maybe that my files aren't in the correct format.
years ago, i used Audacity, and it worked well, but at the moment, it does not read the wav's - comes up with a message saying i should import them as RAW, but that also don't work.
so i don't know what settings to use with Audacity, maybe?
i'm also making use of Wavepad sound editor, but also, at this point, i am not able to output files in the correct IL-2 format.
any advice on the correct software/procedures/settings to edit my IL-2 wavs, and create new ones? thanks in advance.
also, if anyone can explain why i cannot get any new samples/presets to work in the new folder structure (my_samples, my_presets), i would appreciate it.
everything seems to be correct, but no new sounds in these folders are ever played in-game.
i guess, if my wav format is wrong, that would explain it, although i have tried using existing IL-2 wav files, and they also don't play.
so, yeah, any advices welcomed. :D

another wird thing i wanted to mention - as for the radio sounds - for example, i have a correct format wav file in Radio Honolulu, but when i switch to Honolulu in-game, it plays some other sound file that is not even in the Honolulu folder, in fact, i don't know where it's getting that sound file.
so yes, at the moment, these new sound features are beyond me - i have no idea why they don't work, or why they are playing sound files that i don't see in my folders...?

I was struggling with Audacity as well; solved it by downloading the mp3 and FFmpeg Libraries under "preferences - libraries" in Audacity. After that Audacity will open IL2 audio (speech) files automatically (no raw importing required).
