Today's date here:  2/19/11
May I propose this date as an international holiday, marking the true arrival of the Mig-3 to the game? :) ;)
Perhaps to be known henceforth as "Aviaskin Mig-3 Day"? ;D ;D ;D

Post by: Birdman on February 19, 2011, 01:42:34 PM
Thank you a lot, the new models are just so awesome and infinitely many times better than the old ones! I really enjoyed a lot when I saw all the unbelievably detailed cap meshes.

However, a couple areas that could be improved in future versions to make these beautiful planes perfect:
- LODs could be a bit better, maybe lighting of upper side of tail and ailerons could be improved in LOD1, LOD2 could use gloss material instead of matt, and there is always one LOD value missing so that last LOD is not used.
- I hope to see overlays in future so that markings and numbers would work like with old model.

Why not?
Specially embedded file description in English, in which everything is written!
Nothing to do: just put the folder MiG-3 directory Mods - and all in flight!

Yes: the flight manifest online problems ...
Solution: remove the classes and the folder "Ckocpit" - and you can fly in the online ...

I do not understand (!)
The glass cockpit is made in accordance with drawings and photographs: the glass was either glued together from several parts, or just bent, Jumper was not (!)

Binding on the front of the glass there, and what is in the screenshot - this is an old cabin, which is not quite accurately reflects what was actually!

Split rack antennas - a problem displaying the graphics card or video settings ...
It appears not always and in all the cards ...

Post by: Epizikl on February 22, 2011, 03:49:07 PM
As a means of solving this problem, I can offer you the following: to bring sight (!)
In this case, doubling the antenna is not visible ...

I would like to see then these skins!
Here they are !
Actually it's just a begining. I've spent a couple of hours to adapt a former skin to the Aviaskins template (quite easy the template is almost the same) and chage some detail of my own. I've also started some parts of the internals that doesn't fit with the top quality of the 3D model (the places I've changed are green, but will be changed into grey when the job is finished).
Well there are still some things to fix (the red star cutting on the fin, the spinner location on the template, and others details), the weathering and the paint chipping must also be improved ...

Here is the plane of Captain S.N. Polyakov from 7th IAP, located at Leningrad, Summer 1941 :

Hum ... Not so sure.
Although interiors, paint scheme and weatheering are finished, the skin isn't good enough to be uploaded.
Try to finish last night, but can't make a decent paint chipping.
Must try again, and again ...

Oh there is plenty of nice profiles for the Mig-3, and this one is among those I intend to do.
At the time I've a few but I stopped because of the "axe-shaped" 3D model.
Now we have a nice 3D model, it's time to be back to Mig-3 skins !

Beautiful work and many thanks

but I have a weird effect with the new prop. Very dark slowly rotating areas in the prop disc, I have seen these before and I take it to be some kind of sychronisation effect, but these are very dark.
Is there any way to use the old prop effect ?

Title: MiG-3 Cockpit repaint textures compatibility issue
Post by: bearcatf8f on March 11, 2011, 02:29:29 PM
This is a great mod! I have 1 huge problem though. As you all know the stock MiG-3 pit is rubbish and completely puts me off flying this plane.

There is an amzing reskin texture for the pit here at SAS called "MiG-3 incl POV" in the "pits" section. With the original MiG-3 it works great but with this mod I realised the cross-hairs on the gunsight are totally independant of the "glass" bit of the gunsight if that makes sense... as in the contour lines of the cross-hairs (the yellow circles) expand well beyond the little glass square.

Is there any way to fix this issue?

Thanks.
Title: Re: MiG-3

Simply get rid of the 3 "body.msh" files in this POV Mod as posted by CirX in his Post over there. Otherwise with the new MiGs you have two Antennas on your birds nose if you use the original POV MOD.

Thanks a lot! That works perfectly now. Although I preffered that POV much better... so I guess there is no way I can keep it without having any problems right?

Thanks a lot to all involved, a great improvement of the sim!  :)

Now if only someone would do something similar with  IL-2 series (hint, hint ;))

+1 for the IL2!

And also... will there be a fix for the missing canopy pillars? I know this is being picky but that is about the only thing left to make this model perfect.

Not that many skins made for this yet I see... hope people get some more made soon coz this is now my favourite aircraft in IL2!

Am I understanding correctly that these Migs are additions and the old stock Migs will still be there? Seems like the old Migs had the worse polygon count of all aircraft going back to the original game.

If this model replaces the original, old missions made for the old model will not look right if you have this new model?

Old missions will need to be edited and include new skins for this new model?

Will this MiG be included in 4.11 official patch?

thank you for the new beatiful Mig 3. Just I noticed that some classfiles are jet into default "files" game structure and "mig 3 new" ones are different in size, so I wonder if is ok to overwrite the "old" ones?

Installation is easy and no need to do anything manually.  Just put this mig folder into the place along with all your other MOD folders and that's it.  The game will automatically look for this new mig and use it.

Does anyone know if there is someone who is (going to) make better 3D model to the other planes? Like the Yaks, La5/7s, Il2s, etc?

(Don't mean to get too off topic)

I have the same prop issue as Lewicide...anyone have any suggestions?  I've tried Stuka40's prop mod to see if that would have any effect- and it did not.  I enjoy flying this bird- but that prop issue is so distracting it's difficult to spend more than a couple minutes in the cockpit...thanks in advance!  (4.122/MA5.3)

@it_eurofighter pretty late, but I've a fix for your problem (I had the same)! Delete the Mig-3 texture entries from VPModpack's SKINMOD folder. In my installation, it was here: IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 - VPMOD\#SAS\#00_SKINMOD\3do\plane

Everything that's used for the MiG-3 (ud, early, etc.). After that, I now have the red stars over the new HD skins. :)

Why stars and numbers do not appear on the bodies?
Title: Re: MiG-3 [4.09] [4.10] [4.12]

Because they're part of the default skins.
Apparently the modder wasn't happy with IL-2's markings and therefore decided to remove the marking overlays and instead paint the russian stars right on the default skins and leave all others unmarked.

And this means that not a single skin can be used with signs and numbers with this beautiful 3D model? If so, then unfortunately this mod is not worth using, as I will have 50 skins for various missions useless (((

Instead of complaining all over the place on a mod that is 2775 days old (!!!), did you ever consider making it better yourself?
This "Gimme, gimme, gimme! Feed me with a spoon!" attitude  - I'm sick and tired of it.

I did not want to offend you or any others. Sorry for that! I am a beginner in Il-2 and hardly understand a 5% of this simulator! In previous years I was engaged with SF1 and SF2 series and it took me a lot of time to undertand the things and make something myself. I am not a modder and very far from this. Of course the modders there helped me and explained many things before I managed to do something myself and then share my products. SF1/2 series are much more easier than Il-2. They are open and simple. That's why I made many skins, decauls, could edit weapons, any inis, made my own version of airfield approach lights. But one day I lost everything cause my hard drive crashed and I lost 200 GB of SF1/SF2 data and 6 years of my work. Then I decided to start with Il-2 and found that there is a great difference between these two simulators. Il-2 is very difficult for me. It is not the same way like in SF when you just to drop the mod and use it! Il-2 has many versions, hard work with inis, many mod incompatibilities with many versions. Of course I stuck and started to ask questions here. If I only could, I would have already make my mods and share them here, and I ma eager to do this. I guessed that we, the amateurs, beginners and those who are very far from modders, are here to ask questions in order to understand something, and the professionals, modders (like you of course) are hear to help us. And these are not complaints, but just questions. I saw that this mod is very old, and my asking questions on it means that I started with Il-2 just 6 or 7 months ago in fact. And I even did not know why the signs and marks do not work with it! I understand that you receive many questions and are tired to give replies to them, but if my questions cause such negative reaction, then I will not ask anything anymore here. Anyway, many thanks to you and to all who helped me to understand, download and enjoy this beautiful simulator
