Title: Hawk III Frankenplane. [4.09] [4.10]
Post by: RealDarko on August 19, 2011, 03:25:56 AM
After tons of work on the plane, designing the features it need to have, skins, Fm, etc... Finally here it is! the Hawk III frankenplane for all the Sino-Japanese war buffs. Plane came with both 4.09 and 4.10 slots and a fantastic static plane to bomb Chinese airbases with your Japanese light bombers :D I want to thank Epervier by his outstanding efforts on slot and FM, Melissa by doing the main part of the 3d edition and that was a huge task, also Ranwers, Ton and Archie by some 3d details that rounded the final product and finally Hayate by the amazing skins for this bird!! A no markings skin is included in the download together a couple of USN skins al by Michel Meilland.
Well, no more words, hope you guys like it.

I'm really sorry!  :-[
RealDarko is a bad boy!  :P
He never gives me the name of the co-authors!
Result, the readme of this aircraft does not mention all the authors!
RealDarko, we will have to develop a procedure to ensure that all authors are cited in other aircraft being manufactured! ;)

yes, RD, it's vital to credit wherever possible. let's hope it can be resolved quickly.
now for a question:
is it just me, but when i go into gunsight mode (Shift+F1) it looks like it is too far zoomed out, and the target is a distant speck....
i can post a screenie, if necessary, if it is isolated...
ok, screenshot:

i have Twister's POV padlock mod, possibly a conflict? anyone else with this?

other than that, all seems to check out nicely, and i had a real blast taking on a few Sally bombers with this plane! great fun!  8) ;D

RealDarko,

Is this plane intended to work in Dark Blue World? If so, are any adjustments to the installation instructions as given required?

Cheers,

Riptide_One, I had a CTD when I installed in DBW so the mod would appear to be set
for 4.09, just needed to take the FM file out of the 4.10 folder and paste over the one
in the mod.

Works perfectly. ;)

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Hey Pete,

That worked like a charm! Flying the Hawk-III in DBW now. Thank you very much for your help.

Ok, where did you get those great skins? I really would like to start a skin collection for this plane.

RealDarko,

I've flown the Hawk-III and on behalf of us "Sino-Japanese War" buffs, I want thank you for adding this fine flying machine to IL-2:). Exceptional work!

RealDarko,

I am happy to say that your Hawk-III has what it takes to bring down the A5M.

Having flown your Hawk-III a little, I would like to offer you a few comments for your consideration as possible revisions. Note that I am not a modder and I do realize that this is a Frankenplane which may impose some limitations on refinements that can be made. Please know that my intent here is to provide constructive comments and that I do respect the amount of work and skill that you put into this plane to be able to share it with the IL-2 community. Also, I do respect the right of the modder to decide what the final configuration of his mod will be.

1) I found a small gap on the left, underside of the plane, but, its not very noticeable in my opinion.

The right, underside has no gap.

2) The default skin includes Chinese roundals. When you check "Markings on" for a given plane, the additional roundals that game puts on the plane do not align with the roundals included with the default skin.

The Chinese roundal is also partially visible when a different nationality is selected.

Also, the default skin includes the number "80". Since the game will put a number on the plane if "Markings on" is selected, I would recommend that numbers not be put on default skins.

There is a work around for this. After re-reading your correspondence with Mission Bug, I realized that the skins for the I-15bis work on your Hawk-III.

China:

Spanish Civil War:

3) There is a bulge in the bottom of the Hawk-III that disappears when it if viewed from a distance.

Close up:

Further away:

4) First of all, thank you very much for including a stationary plane. It's very much appreciated.

The stationary aircraft skin is the same as the flyable aircraft's skin. Here again, in my opinion, it would be better to let the game put numbers and roundals on the stationary planes.

Once again, thank you very much for the Hawk-III!

Cheers,

Riptide

Riptide for the skin you can change the default skin for one of your wish. I know I did long time ago and it was not hard, sure someone more interested in skinning will remember the procedure to change the default skin. The Bulge problem is related to the Franken nature of the plane, not sure If it can be easily solved, but I really doubt it.
Archie did you erased the engine cover of the original I-15 bis? If yes, can you please send me the fix so I can add it as a downloadable option on the first post? Of course If you give your permission.

Hello all, here are the Thai skins I made some time ago following a request from RealDarko.

http://www.4shared.com/file/2Ik8CAgC/Hawk_III_Thai_skins.html

I had to make a template from the I-15 Bis void which is included, for PSP and PSD.
The PSD file will open in Gimp.  Please leave credits in place.

RealDarko, my solution to the engine wasn't quite as subtle as Archie's, I did explain
how it was done at the time, see the template. ;)

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Hi, your new version  does not appear in game (FMB or QMB); the game loads fine, when I select the Hawk, nothing appears and when I click on 'fly', I get the scenery picture usually related to no cockpit issues. I run a SAS 3.6 mod activated game. Many thanks again,

[DJP] Thanks for this plane.  I used QMB Pro to select a Khalkin gol career, and used the Hawk III for several missions. [HSFX 4.11] As expected it's outpaced by the Ki-27s. It's probably best to fly at 80% power most of the time. Don't close the radiator. It doesn't like dogfighting at lowish altitudes. Expect it to overheat fairly quickly.

cheers

Really enjoy flying the Hawk III, although it took me a few tries to get the takeoff right. I had a couple of questions. First, I can’t figure out how to retract the gear; it cycles fine on autopilot, but neither the gear toggle key nor the manual up/down keys do anything. Second, I assigned one of the Goshawk skins in FMB, and it shows up there correctly, but when I run the single mission, the skin is the default.

I’m a newbie, so these are probably both errors on my part. Any help would be appreciated. I’m running DBW bld1.6 and the 4.101 FM.

You need to assign a key or key combo for manual raise and deploy landing gear on control menu. For the skin, If is happening on the plane you control, remember to select it while on Arming screen before starting the mission.

Really enjoy flying the Hawk III, although it took me a few tries to get the takeoff right. I had a couple of questions. First, I can’t figure out how to retract the gear;

You do indeed have to assign a key in the controls section ... there are 2 commands, manually raise / manually lower gear ... assign something easily remembered and still unused, like for instance <ctrl>+G / <shift>+G ... and also remember, by hitting these newly assigned keys just once, the gear will not raise or lower itself.

Much like using an old fashioned crank, you have to continually keep on hitting these keys until you get the message 'gear lowered' / 'geared raised'. I haven't counted how many times is necessary, but I would think something around 20 times is what I do ...

You'll hear a whirring/cranking sound as you do this and should you be looking at an outside view of the plane in F2 for instance, you will gradually see the gear being raised/lowered.

This is a well done little bit of simming, nicely atmospheric of what must have been for the pilots a strenuous task of cranking or turning a lever somewhere while trying to keep the plane level.

Are there plans to make the FB2C Goshawk carrier-based plane?  I'm assuming the Goshawk had a tailhook.  Would it be easy to add the tailhook to this mod?

EDIT:  not needed now.  I found the Curtiss F6C4 to use as a carrier based plane.

Hello,

I get the dreaded 60% ctd after I installed this aircraft. I have the latest buttons file (9.5), though it crashed with the previous buttons file as well. When I disable the entry in the air.ini file the game starts normally.

I'm not sure what I'm missing here, it's the first time I have encountered this problem.

Thanks!

Did you copy the correct FM file in the folder of the aircraft according to your pack?

Hi Poltava,

I'm really enjoying this campaign, those Ki-10's are tough opponents but otherwise the Hawk is a very stable gun platform. It will be interesting t see how the Dewoitine fairs, (I've noticed a few similarities... ;).
