Title: STATE OF THE ART
Post by: SAS~Monty27 on November 06, 2016, 03:33:20 AM
WAIT A MINUTE THERE - HOLD EVERYTHING!

C.U.P. - WORLD AT WAR

Nearing a state of completion?

As CUP develops, improves and expands - World at War has drawn criticism for its sheer size and detail compared to simpler installs.  Well we do have well over 1000 aircraft and so many features in there!

For my part performance is not an issue, my CUP is smooth and fast. Graphics and mesh improvements are usually always worth a small cost.  The way in which we use the sim also impacts performance.  Mission design is a factor here as well.

There are some gains to be made through re-structuring the SFS Archive and Classfiles.  SAS~Benitomuso, SAS~Asheshouse and Moezilla, in particular, have shown this.  Don't try it at home - Moving classfiles and load orders around is guaranteed to produce some surprising results and break things!  However, there are some good ideas on how to further Optimise CUP-#WAW and re-structure the SFS Archive and Classfiles for #WAW.

To encourage this effort we need stability.  Further #WAW development should be frozen at this point with #WAW Part-21.

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,52898.0.html

I would expect any newly rebuilt SFS_WAW archive to be uploaded in parts for testing (by PM invitation) and then released with a new #WAW Mod folder.  To allow room for the Optimisation projects the main CUP Team will go 'hands off' #WAW for the time being.

While testing any new SFS Archive remember that we have #WAW Part-21 - At this point its tidy, working well and has a lot of content.  So, no worries, we will always be backed up to this point whatever else is tried!

Meanwhile we have four other CUP Modules to continue to develop and I also want to finish my collection of campaigns and missions.

This is my current priority list:

SAS Modular Map Expansion - Some major updates coming here.  New maps and textures apply to all CUP Modules.

CUP - Dawn of Flight - Keeping pace with 412 fixes and new models - To have these unique models working in 412 is a major triumph for CUP.  Its also a unique achievement, there is nothing else out there that does everything Dawn of Flight does, in 412!

CUP - The Golden Age - Same as the above.  Another large Campaign pack for the Spanish Civil War is on its way.

CUP - World at War - Frozen as of Part-21 to allow for Optimisation by interested parties.  Meanwhile previous long campaigns - Desert Air Force - Midway - Ace of Spades - The Battle of Britain - The Siege of Malta - Spitfire Scramble - are well on their way to completion for this level of C.U.P. and the new releases will begin shortly.

CUP - The Jet Age - There are significant developments in the pipeline here.  With unique flight models, engine mods and weapons.  Nothing sorts it all out like CUP for the most working Jet Age stuff.  Look for several fantastic new releases in this arena and many more brilliant Jet Age aircraft, campaigns and missions.

Criticism for sheer size?  That sounds crazy to me....  Oh my nobody forces anyone to download CUP, nor use it.  For any of you that dislike the volume of CUP.... don't play it, too simple.  Don't complain about the size of this install, better yet thank those all involved keeping this game going and expanding it to who knows how far.

For EVERYONE involved in the development of CUP a huge Thank You for me, The only thing I can contribute is a few campaigns that I hope people enjoy to play.

To the CUP team, THANK YOU!As I´m no modder nor coder I can only take advantidge of the work you bring us! I ain´t even able to make skins! I can only, with some confidense, point newbies to where in the forum they can find fixes for their hickups! (as I often have had them before!)

No it isn't crazy - As campaign makers you and me want everything (I reckon you will like the improved Part-21 FMB btw)!

However, the program itself, the game engine and the way it handles resources, is not infinite.  It is important to keep a tidy house.

I'm always banging on about the need to avoid sticking every new thing we see into the mod folder, this is why.

It is always tempting though, and we have such a treasure chest to play with!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hi Monty,
Just a quick note is it possible to create a note pad list
with just the JSME mods that you want in CUP?
I seem to have a large amount not all of which I have used and some that are
duplicated.
Not sure if I have removed all those you said should be removed.

Yes we must do a clean JSGME list asap.  There is also another, very simple, aircraft update in the works.  New planes for #WAW plus a few minor fixes and tidy-ups.  So will put all toogether very shortly.

The way JSGME for CUP is organised the common CUP Options (all modules) are at the top.  All of the others are simply tune up options really.  Its easy to see at a glance what module they apply too.  When making a campaign, or flying one, the additional options allow you to tweak many items prior to launch.  None of the options are essential, although Engine MOD and Smokes are important to apply in most circumstances.

Good campaign makers will list required options to activate in their campaign description.  Could we have a simpler setup? - Yes, if simple means less choice.

I will do a full breakdown of these, perhaps for the manual, with a list and description of each for a clear and easy reference.

Here's a snapshot of mine, you can zoom in to see them.

I often deactivate everything and build a new setup for whatever I'm flying, or missions I'm making.  None of the options takes longer than a few seconds to copy over, offering massive choice and total control.

NO FULL QUOTES!!!!!

Monty, thank you for explaining this. I was kind of confused about the double or triple JSGME entries and which ones to activate

First off thank-you and all involved in this great mod. Second, as I look at your JSGME list, I do not have DOF_MAPINI and wondering if it is essential? My DOF is running perfectly but wondering if I'm missing something. Again thank-you for CUP.

Hello mate

Firstly, I will be doing #WAW Part-22 before we even think of slowing down.  Its a week away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DOF MAP.ini is my own campaign building addon that simply reduces the choices in FMB when I am making campaigns.  Its a good tool but not important.  Of course, we should do a big JSGME review and explanation for everyone.  Its so easy to make these little switches and I am always happy to share anything with anyone, that's the whole spirit of the CUP Project.

I read in other forums people saying they tried installing CUP but it did not work, it is too complex, too many steps and they give up... I understand it takes time to download and unzip but absolutely nobody should have any trouble getting a CUP install working. What is surprising is that I am not sure those same people go and ask for help. The statements seem out of nowhere.

Download, unzip, move! (all those restore points? just mind the last restore point for each module). Then delete 1 sfs file and some OPTIONAL folders and, of course, edit your conf.ini. So what is the big deal?

The big deal is that you are missing out the Biggest Deal you can get today: 55 GBs of absolute magnificence. Years of modding tightly packed and brilliantly presented in what is the greatest achievement since IL-2 saw the light 15 years ago: impressive maps, aircraft, objects, sounds... CUP is the most complete all-purpose air combat simulator to date, I have no doubts.

Simon and many others have been pursuing this very moment for many years and they unselfishly keep updating and improving CUP for us to enjoy it and I cannot thank you enough CUP team!

My greetings to the developers of IL 2 CUP, I do not speak English, and managed to install CUP, long ago.

Thanks for all the time you dedicate to the CUP, it's great where il2 came from.
Thank you very much!!!!

Excuse me with google tranlators  :P

Whistler - 90% of CUP failures come purely from user error, people dont read the threads, think they know it all and when they f*ck up, they blame the modders, sas, or simon directly, it is NEVER their fault, even when its proved to be their fault. It is always someone else...... a bit like recent politics lol
