BTW: a question, how do infantry soldiers look like in CoD? Do they move and shoot? Do they have a face? How they react when you strafe them?

I honestly cant remember  I've seen one yet. I mix ROF and Clod a lot in memory, and that kind of frighten me when I think about it, I come back to you when I checked it  ::)

I havnt seen any infantry at all, just moving vehicles without drivers, pilots and crew only in the air. Its as if there arent any life forms just invisible ghosts every where. ???  ;D

Well I would not put that a as a first priority, I think it need more effects and more sound. It honestly need more campaigns and missions. And it need a flyable Defiant and DO-17. Then we can talk about small prats walking in the earth..  :D
The vehicles are very good tho

Hello Leone, Gerax and FxTRT

May I kindly ask you your specs [CPU-GPU-( Overclocking or not ) SCREEN refreshrate (60 or 120 Hz)-GPU driver version ] and especially your Game video settings and ATI or NVIDIA settings.
Do you use any special tricks. (for e.g. special  Anti Aliasing ) .
Are these Out Of the Box screenshots ?

When we are confronted with such beautiful screenshots we are tempted to compare with what we are facing everyday , so some techs would be welcome, so that  we don't get too much frustrated. ;)

Congratulations for these screenshots.

Sonny Tucson.

And it need a flyable Defiant and DO-17.

I agree, Maddox et al really missed the bus on these two. (And part of me hopes they pay for it).

Above this what the game needs is:

1) tracer fire that doesn't make me think of ATARI's worst efforts.
2) Swastikas as an option (screw PC thuggery!)
3) A flyable seaplane!! (who wouldn't take the He 115 out for a torp run on a british convoy or an He 59 on a Seenot mission?!?!)

well, lots of potential on the skin, but does need work.
Lining stuff up with the 109 skins are a pain. But I can say that out of the crap storm this game is the skins system is great.

LOL, ATARI is offended  8)
  If you go into FMB, you can change the tracers from the ugly things they are right now to a staggering variety.
I got tired of the "sneaky" no color tracers.  When I build a mission now I use all red tracers for the Hurri and Spit (I fly mostly blue).  This way I can see thier fire.  Looks like 1946.  You can choose one gun to be yellow, one white and one red... ect.
  Oh Yes, I would have loved to have a floatplane or seaplane in the game.  However, I think they have thier hands full with fixing what is broke for now...  The Defiant would have been a disaster for me just like it was for the RAF.  What I really want is a Whirlwind.  But hey, people in hell want Ice water  ;D

Cheers.

Get em both! There are still many things Il-2 does better& it has alot more to offer in Maps Aircraft etc...not to mention a creative community.CloD is pretty nice , but so far very limited...Switching back & forth os fair!

As mentioned before screenshots really come out well.This one was tougher to get than it looks...why?I like many others have very slow FPS when low to ground or when smoke and/or dust is present -even on pause sweeping thru a view is clunky,so this took a bit of doing ( not that much, but still..:) ;)

You are probably already aware that you shouldn't hold your breath...all AI palnes in Clod are on hold from what i've read until teething problems are fixed...also the eastern front version is taking all the creative time for new aircraft away from CloD.See:
http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=30815

Some newly posted screenshots:

now, i *need* badly to fly a defiant.. but maybe i have just the moving tanget attitude.. and maybe the same reason makes me desperate for a Mk.I early hurricane in CloD..

of course, i'm glad i've purchase it with 80% discount under christmas sales.. it's almost decent patched but the road seems looooooong to me..

There are a series of wartime instructional shorts done for the RAF during the war , one of which describes the duties of a Defiant gunner( loading guns , maintanance of the turret etc.)on a dvd now available thru the RAF Museum. Trust me- this is one position you'd never want to be in.I doubt if one in ten gunners ever made it out from a disabled Defiant.First the turret needed to be turned in exactly the right position to free the turret hatch ( door?) Then the gunner needed to struggle into his parachute.The pilot- the poor sod....no guns to fire , his sole pupose was to try to do line ups on EA so that somehow his gunner could get a shot.Really no fun either in real life or real sim life.
  As to flying the Defiant ( ok I would try it too...) there is little to no chance it will be a flyable in the near future.From what i've read further developement of CloD is on undefinate hold until the Eastern Front version is up & running.It may be that some day 3rd part modders will take this bird & make it flyable , but I can only imagine that 4 gun turret will be difficult to do up to the standard of the rest of the interiors in the sim.Itwould have to be a labor of love,even if it was a mod of the Wellington turret , which need I say would be another labor of love...sigh...

it was an old world war 1 idea that the old salts thought would be perfect for modern air combat
and this was the main problem that Sidney Camm had to contend with when trying to pass off the hurricane to the air ministry

 Straying a bit further OT:
I really love one of the CfU ( Concept for Use...a term that probably didn't exist then , but anyhow..)the Ministry of Defense had , or was it the RAF struggling to figure out what to do with this ...uh...unique aircraft. The Defiants were supposed to fly parallel to the hords of Heinkles just out of thier MG range & then ( and this is the fun part..) broadside them with the power of their 4 Brownings ( seriously I am not sure about the deflection problems at speed ...physics was never a good subject for me..) A tactic more akin to Nelson & the Royal Navy than the Royal Flying Corps. It musta been some real fun just before death if any one in those doomed Defianr squadrons ever got the chance...that is before they found themselves slightly within the range of the bombers guns or before they were riddled by amazed Messerschmitt pilots who found targets of straight , slow flying Defiants. Well if they ever are flyable we can all get the chance to try it....once... :-[
p.s. I wonder if they had a plan about "crossing the 'T"!?Gettin in position to do this would be really tough!

originally it was brilliant as German pilots who dived on it were shot down and didn't know why. When they realised the switched to attacking from below as was practised on the eastern front with later IL2 models

Actually I read about a pilot from usa that valuntered in canada . He went on to fly Defiant nightfighters.
He loved that plane, he recalls it the best times of the war. And he piloted P-61 in pasific oshean, making record getting 4 kills in one sortie

Are you able to take off in a 109 with the mixture, prop pitch, etc or do you start in the air? Cuz I had the darndest time trying to figure out how to just even take off, so I switched back to auto all that stuff. Any tips?

Bf-109 has elevator and aileron trim but no rudder trim. Equipped with an Oil and Water Radiator, electrically driven prop pitch mechanism, automatic compressor, and mixture doesn't need to be touched, only pushed back during start up and left alone all other times.
Combat power is the Emergency War boost with an automatic cut out timer after 1 minute, so the engine isn't damaged.

For takeoff you need to fully open both Radiators, oil and water, prop pitch is reversed in 109, so you need the icon at the bottom of your screen to have the slider at the bottom for full prop pitch angle, unlike other aircraft it is the opposite.

Set flaps down at 20* (Estimate by looking out of cockpit) After hitting the Fuel Cock, pump some fuel by moving the lever 2-3 times. Then switch magnetos to both, set throttle lever about a 1cm from 0% and then start the engine using the key you mapped in controls. (Default- I)

That is proper takeoff, then put flaps almost up but leave a gap for turning performance, and then close your water radiator half (Estimate), and leave oil radiator open fully. The splashes on your windscreen is oil, from overheating. And if you are not careful to check water and oil temperature the tanks could perforate and you can severely damage the aircraft and engine. :!:

Also when engine is running perfectly there should be minimal flame coming from your exhaust. And if you do not watch the RPM on your engine and it overspeeds it will be severely damage and create many rough vibrations. At any time RPM should not exceed 2400 during Takeoff/Landing/Climb and no more than 2900-3000 during a dive.

Finally the small icons in the corner represent the % of your different engine settings (Full, closed, Open, etc):

Prop Pitch, Mixture, Throttle, Radiator

These are seriously nice pics. It's difficult to tell how the game is actually running now though. I've seen video of the game, but not sure if the poor game effects are a result of low end computers, or if the game is still at the 'birthing' stage. I had a pretty nice machine and the 48 seconds I spent playing COD before it crashed, were impressive but I felt I was playing a game that was only 40% complete.

Microsoft should have given Oleg the money to finish the project and scrapped MFS...

Sounds are always going to be up for debate, but the 109 doesn't sound wrong to my ears and certainly not like a Cessna!

- no jpg skins, better tga instead
- static ac markings fixed
- new terrain textures at least for the fields
- free campaigns for offliners (preferably dcg or dgen style)

In a few years time, this sim will be amazing. Despite not being able to fly it currently with any worth while performance (on windows XP :S), I look forward to the sequel, as I think it could reboot the brand at the point where it miserably failed. I mean, seeing the progress in the last few months has really drawn a lot more pilots into the sim, back from when everybody argued and nothing got done. I think it has been a rather genuine effort on the behalves of the community and the developers to improve the title. I think, within the next official patch I will have very few problems actually flying a full combat mission or the campaign without crashes/freezes and lag.

I did, and it don't brother!
FM's still screwed (red and blue), DM's questionable (love the 109 but flying back on half a wing after collision???), Radio TOTALLY inoperable, AI can be better if tweaked, but what does it matter when your side wont do what you tell them...eh I could go on.
Tried to run the desastersoft campaign. No point when you cant even take off as a pair.

REGARDLESS, perhaps one day it will be functional, and the 109's wont sound like Cessnas, and I can get back to skinning it. Rather miss doing that.Great pictures guys, Ill bow out now.

Hey, It’s the fearless Barbie Squadron!   8)
They were feared by many allied pilots. I once read they were
an all female "girl-scout" pilots belonging to the "Goering-Youth".
It was Goering´s way of creating his own personal Hitler-youth squadrons.
The women were allowed to paint their aircraft any way they wished.
Needless to say, some airplanes were all painted pink.
The allied forces called them the "Pink Pirates" and some used to call them "The Pink Pussy-Cats".
They used to have a large Barbie name painted on the side fuselage with a large black-heart painted on the tail instead of the swastika. This was to warn allied pilots they were an all woman squadron and they loved to fight.
This was also a very good way to attract men to their fight and like a spider attacks their victims.
Upon seeing a pink airplane, many men thought they were joking, so they got closer to the
female airplane to inspect and see the ladies.
That is when the "Pink Pirates" turned around and shot down the allied airplanes.
In all the WW2 years, they were responsible for more than 999 allied aircraft shot down!

Winston Churchill used to call them "The Scourge of the Mediterranean who smell like Chanel Nº 5 !! ",

Took off from Devres and headed to Dover to kill some ships:
(http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa54/TarJak/shot_20121003_072725bmp.jpg)

(http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa54/TarJak/shot_20121003_072859bmp.jpg)

Flak cut the hydraulics to my right leg making handling a little tough:
(http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa54/TarJak/shot_20121003_072948bmp.jpg)

As I pulled out of my attack run I was joined by some unfriendlies:
(http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa54/TarJak/shot_20121003_073052bmp.jpg)

They rattled my cage a bit then we danced:

(http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa54/TarJak/shot_20121003_073625bmp.jpg)

I then dived for speed and ran like a girl across the channel:
(http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa54/TarJak/shot_20121003_074002bmp.jpg)

Strangely when we hit French Point, they turned around and went home:
(http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa54/TarJak/shot_20121003_074150bmp.jpg)

I then made a safe but bumpy landing bending my prop.

~S~ Fellows,

I'd like to contribute by sharing this link to the "Bananna Forums" where I found, and tried, this "FXAA Injector", which also allows you to adjust the colors in Cliffs of Dover amongst other things. You'll need to register at that site to download it from the thread, and it doesn't quite solve the issue for every time of day, or for every discerning eye. However, given the example below, just the potential for good screenshots is obvious. I have tried this with multiplayer without a problem and it's certainly noteworthy to those that want to tune CloD to thier own liking. Screens unedited otherwise, the edit used to achieve this is covered in the thread. Good Hunting.

Hello VMF214_Jupp

Isn't that ""FXAA Injector", already inplemented in the last and final CloD official patch release ?

Looking in my CloD folder , it looks like all the dll of "FXAA Injector"  are already there .... and the Pause Key is working changing  the colors from yellowish to bluish .

I may be wrong but  otherwise I surely missed a point !. :D

Thanks.

I have an I7 quad Core , 8gb ram and a MSI Radeon 6970 Lightning 2Gb Vram.
I'd like to know the best Card settings as well as the in game settings.

My game still suffers from heavy flickering but the FPS are now really good.

Thank-You

Sonny Tucson  :)

~S!~ Sonny,

If it is in fact included in the last patch (1.11.xxxx) then great. People should be informed of it.

To me, it has transformed the look of the sim in use, and has given me a renewed interest in it.

Your processor is better than mine, as is your video card, but it is an ATI, so I cannot help there.

I can report is this does nothing bad to FPS, and it has been tested in multiplayer w/ no problems.

Wow, I don't have Cliffs of Dover (And I probably won't get it for quite a while, my computer would die trying to run it) but the graphics are incredible, even the stuff on the ground looks just as detailed as the planes themselves which is impressive considering it's a flight simulator. Makes 1946 look like it was built from lego blocks... :(

That's quite nice for all the people who are killing their asses to get 1946 better than Cliffs of Dispair . >:(

As for today 1946 is still graphically far better than ClOD.!

Before putting such a statement in here , you'd better try ClOD and see the difference by yourself !.

Don't let you be impressed by screenshots. Reality is totally different !.

A while back I went on youtube for aircraft videos and I stumbled upon a black and white CoD movie, I thought they were real replicas :o until I looked a bit harder
And I believe the armoured vehicles in that game also have tracks that move......
Title: Re: Share a screen Cliffs over Dover
Post by: Sonny Tucson on November 01, 2012, 04:09:22 AM
Hi Fishfingers !

Yeah that's right , they have got tracks moving ...but that's not the point. COD should have been  a FLIGHT simulator.
Idon't care a sh.. for those moving tracks as long as I can't fly this bl...y stuff without sun glasses because of the flickering !.

What's the point of having "moving tracks on the tanks and spinning wheels on cars " if you have to fly with all the details options on the min, even with an ARMSTRONG's rig !.

I really hope all this is going to be fixed with the "sequel" as announced by the developper who finally admits  that CLOD is an unfinished product that they are not going to support any longer ( so no more update or fix ).
The next release will be the sequel . I cross my fingers !.

But I learned not to rely on such statements ! .

Oh, that is a surprise to me!  :o
 SO , all this time it was an "unfinished project"? ... what a waste of time  :( Very sorry for all the fans.

Does that mean we can have it and mod it to 100% perfection?  8) I would like to see this game being turned into something not
just related to the BoB era, but way beyond. There could even be a 1944-1945 era included with American bombers and fighters,
some FW-190s and Me-262...etc. etc.   ;)
I hope they let the Mods take over this game and continue doing their magic on it.

No flickers, some tiny micro stutters over London (sight seeing). I can tell you i had ATI Cat. Drivers 12.10 Beta, and I had stutter's, flicker's and all sort of sh#ty performance, even in IL2 1946, so I reloaded 12.9 Beta. Life is ok now. Well as soon as I can get a beer or 2. ;D

Hi Big Foot

Ah......... you are a green ! like me. I like these troublesome ATI cards !.

Thanks for your quick answer.

I am under 12.8 Driver.
Did you experiment this one and what kind of results did you get. ?
Should I move to 12.9 like you did ?

I suppose that with 12.9 beta you are still using Atioglxx.dll in Il-2 1946

Could you please specify your CCC settings ?

As for today underr COD I also have , like you say " stutter's, flicker's and all sort of sh#ty performance " but it's real fine under DBW1.71 (with atioglxx.dll ).

Thanks for your help.

Sonny, ATI 7000 Series cards dont have to use the xx.dll in iL2 1946. Ever since Cat. 11.6 Drivers. But you should give 12.9Beta a try, your Vcard may perform better, I just know??. Here in the near future, Im upgrading to HD 7870, its just over $200.00 us, so thats my goal. I was going to get a 6950 but the store I bought the 7770 didnt have 6000 cards, lol. Im glad now. I hope you can come to some kind of compromise with your Vcard for the Better.

And my first landing attempt with settings at real in the "Spit on me tail" Gig.

Hi Big Foot

Yeah , you may be right but ain't got the bucks ...

Moreover I am a little bit f..... up for the time being. >:( Have a look at my posts on the Full Monty thread.
Whatever I can do , no way to get TFM working with MONTY PACK 15 added. I tried everything but no way...70% crash.
This dates from the day I wanted to install PACK 14-15-16-17 and 18.
And , as I can't get a log of what happens , I can understand that no one is going to help me.
Do you know a way to get a logfile besides this  that doesn't work in my TFM

[Console]

HISTORY=1024
HISTORYCMD=1024
LOAD=console.cmd
SAVE=console.cmd
LOG=1 // 0
LOGTIME=1 // 0
LOGFILE=log.lst
//LOGFILE=logfile.txt
LOGKEEP=0

I tried with and without Storebror Instant Log

As far as my Vid card is concerned I am quite happy with it under Il-2 (45 FPS average ), Rise of Flight (FPS blocked at 40 ) and DCS World.(plus/minus 30 everything maxed.)
I prefer to put bucks aside as long as this COD is not finalized.( So , you see I really have plenty of time to spare my bucks! :P)

Sonny .  :)

Sonny; Im here to help you have and enjoy TFM . But first we need to see what is causing your CTD the log.lst file is commented in this way:
Find your game's conf.ini. use this link info to configure your PC.    http://www.axis-and-allies-paintworks.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?2678
[Console]
HISTORY=1024
HISTORYCMD=1024
LOAD=console.cmd
SAVE=console.cmd
LOG=1 <--- all that needs to be to activate the log. Thats all.
LOGTIME=0
LOGFILE=PUNISHER <---- Name it something you can recognise.
LOGKEEP=0 <--- means it will keep data stored, dont activate this. It will create and keep a dump every time you launch your  game, "not needed"

Ok now that you got it configured go launch your game and at the bottom of the file, data will be your answer to why its crashing, but the answer is hard to define unless you have seen and fixed that query before. Get crakin.

See this I don't get.. I just bought Rise of Flight.. Gameplay/Graphics/texture-mesh detail every bit as good (or better) then CLoD, and have no problems what so ever on my rig running RoF with everything set to 'High'. Including an un-Godly amount of A/C flying around. Try the same with CLoD.. and maybe 8-12FPS if I'm lucky. 30fps+ always with RoF. I mean.. how are they coding CLoD? With Einstien equations & multiples of 1000000s?

BTW, to put it on record, after giving close to a 3 hour Play Time, with this latest official patch, I am relieved for a change. I kept on wondering what was wrong, I suddenly realized that "the game did not crash to desk top". I was psychically drained after that length of game play. Thanks CloD Dev's, for essentially a new Sim. Im impressed.

Runnign latest steam patch? RoF and CLoD run near identical for me- both on higest settings (minus supersampling for RoF and with Effects "Medium" for CLoD). BOth output around 50 fps. Maybe there is a glitch with your video card drivers etc

Don't think my drivers are the problem. I have all the latest ATI drivers. For 1946 I run the 11.5 dll in the game root. Just updated my realtek audiodriver which made a big difference on RoF, & CloD.. go figure. I did get the patch through steam, little better, not much though. Pity.. cause I really like CLoD! :)

Hi Big Foot

Thanks for your help , but I definitely can't get this logfile to install.
In my conf.ini I have

[Console]

HISTORY=1024
HISTORYCMD=1024
LOAD=console.cmd
SAVE=console.cmd
LOG=1
LOGTIME=0
LOGFILE=FuckedUp (but also tried with =logfile.log or  =log.lst )
LOGKEEP=0 (Also tried with =1 )

This" FuckedUp" should appear in my conf.ini, shouldn't it ?

I use to put my conf.ini in " read only " after having made changes to it , but even when "unlocked" this logfile or now "FuckedUp" does not create.
What extension should have this FuckedUp ? ...lst ?

Now that my TFM is running I'd really like to get this logfile working.
As for today I only have
-----------------------------------
[Console]
console.cmd
initlog.lst
sound.log
eventlog.lst
--------------
appearing in my TFM root directory.

Thanks again for your help.

Sonny :)

No, your FuckedUp file will be in your IL2 Root folder. Here a screenshot of my Root Folder my Log.lst is Punisher.

When you do actually find it, open it up with Windows "Word Pad" and at the bottom "generally" will be your query.

Thanks Big Foot

but I did a mistake when posting , I confused conf.ini and Root.
I perfectly knew it should come in my Root.

BUT ACTUALLY IT DOESN'T !.

Silly question

Is this Logfile logging everything or only when there is a mishap ?

The most curious is that it's working in my 4.09 install !.

This is why they called it the "Collectors Edition", because it was a unique, limited release! :D And it loves to collect dust! :D

Ok this probly is the wrong place for this but I gotta ask...

All all these screens from an unmodded game? well outside the obvious pink JU-88 and various skins and photoeffects.

What does it take to run it at those levels of detail? How broken is the game really? are the patches working on correcting the problem?

I'm getting really interwested in getting CloD but swayed away by the "broken" aspect and power requirments. and coments from CWMV (no offense but you seem to a strong oppent to CloD at this time).

Just want to be informed.

IL-2 Sturmovik (as we know it) is dead. Pro tip; don't buy the left over stock. ;) Save your money for Battle Of Stalingrad content. :)
To be honest, it's certainly not 'stable' enough to be considered the definition and since the project is dead, I think you'll get bored rather soon.

I love to fly clod, for the scenery. it is too few campaigns. on my rig 2,8 i7 2 x nvidia 480 gtx 6 ram the sim fly without any problem. itgot sometimes a delay on controls but not as often. Low flying over london under big ben is better than FSX the dogfight is very realistic. Worth the money it is indeed. Not what I payed for it, but for what it cost now, I would buy it.
For those not fancy clod, I prefer not having repetitive negativity. We know what the general opinion is. This section is for those who like to fly it

Pretty well all look to be unmodded to me- though some are from earlier versions , which had alot of very cool stuff regarding lighting. These have been toned down/ removed in later patches to increase fps/ enable users of less powerful rigs to run it.

Quote

Yes it needs a pretty powerful rig, a good gpu with 2gb and a decent cpu, preferably as fast as possible, is a good start if you want to turn on all the graphic options, even then you may struggle in certain situations. Turning down a few options can make things very playable at little graphical loss.
I would not recommend it to anyone with a laptop.
 Screen resolution can be a big factor also- don't expect to run 3 screens without a supercomputer.
What rig have you got?
Amy specific worries feel free to pm me

How broken is subjective- there are alot of things that could be alot better, some can be worked around.
 If you can put aside any preconceptions that it'll work EXACTLY like IL2 (or any other sim) it can be enjoyable- I think this is one of the biggest problems some users have IMHO
All work by the dev team is over, period. (though it remains to be seen if anything significant happens with modding ;) )

At the end of the day you could have a glimpse at Oleg's vision of what might have been for ~ the price of a pint
Of course, I'm totally biased  ;),

Bolox thanks for the bravomis, I only flew for a short time as I had to re command my Joy Stick, some how I lost my previous settings. When I get my Controls settings back to the way I like them Ill go for a all out flight.

Most of my shots here are heavily edited outside the game using Photoshop, Picasa GIMP or all three.  There are some others I've posted here that are not edited at all.  AFAIK there are no "mods" for this game at present as Steam throws a hissy fit when you try to play Online MP.  The only "add on" I use is SweetFX which does a great job of improving visitbility in game and gets better Anti Aliasing than stock which is broken.

Despite the naysayers, the game is very playable in MP and there is a relatively strong community of online MP servers but the game is less satisfying in SP due to the lack of SP campaigns and some borked AI routines.  Something that has been identified is that by using smaller formations 3 units max (You then have to build up multiples of these 3 unit flights to get a biggish fight), changes the way that the AI flys as units in combat.  But they do sometimes go back to flying straight and level when they's decided they've had enough.

In terms of SP campaigns have a look at the Desastersoft Wick Vs Dundas add on and see what you think: http://www.desastersoft.com/en/product-wick-dundas.html

The biggest factor in being able to run the game is videocard and RAM.  The more RAM you have the better it performs and the more VRAM your video card has the better.  I've got a 1.5GB GTX580 running with 16GB of RAM and an I7 2600 no over clocking and it runs max detail even in highly populated (70+ players), online servers.

You need to have the latest patched version of the game for it to run and TBH once that patch came in the game actually became a pleasure for me.

Knowing that the game is now no longer under development with the current engine means that either it will die a death once BoS comes out or it will get modded and potentially improved beyond where it is now.  (I'm not holding my breath for either outcome and am just enjoying it for what it is now.

Get it cheap, get it patched and try it out.  If it don't work for you then kick it to the trash can and wait for BoS.

Title: Re: Share a screen Cliffs over Dover
Post by: Mission_bug on December 21, 2012, 05:43:42 PM
I love just to fly a particular aircraft over the map especially late in the day, looks superb. ;)  My rig can only really do this with everything on medium, if I want to do combat I need to turn some things down, so only do combat if I can actually be bothered to alter the settings. :)

Just shows what could have been though, but IL-2 1946 still rules, old as its lineage may be.

Unfortunately, for anyone with XP most of the links to previous manual patches are now unusable at the 1c forums, but if you have or can upgrade to Windows 7 I would say give it a go, buggy it is, but at the current price of roughly a tenner Sterling on Steam definately worth a look if you can put up with the only DRM solution for this sim.

Bye the way bolox I downloaded the mission you put up for Bravo, hope you don't mind, the taxi behaviour may be a little odd with the aircraft moving back to the hangers before going along their merry way but it is really something to see.  Up to now I've only tried making a mission as per IL-2 where you take off in the time honoured fashion, or as in the screenshot altered an existing mission.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

I know :'(- I did mention it was somewhat rough :P. It was really just an example to show Bravo the 'spawn parked option. There are other options to play with and combine, for instance add 'idle' to the spawn parked and you have 'statics' with skins/markings- maybe not where you want them tho.

Hello bolox, at least for creating straight forward missions the builder is very much like IL-2 1946 so is relatively easy, the problem I guess is with using scripts.

From your mission, thanks.

(http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm42/Mission_bug/boloxmission.jpg)

I'm just starting to explore the possibilities, so far I've altered one mission to include a takeoff and set the time for later in the day as well as created a a few straight forward missions to test behaviour of the seaplanes and the Anson. ;)

Not a hardware issue Pablo, sounds like your ingame settings might need a tweak perhaps? I dont have CLoD installed anymore myself, lost the install during a previous hardrive crash and CBF'd reinstalling it now.

Hello PabloSniper, my machine isn't a particularily powerfull one so if I play a single mission with no combat everything is pretty good on medium settings, for quick missions involving combat I usually turn down trees to low and that helps.

When taking screenshots I tend to use around 14:00 as the light is good or as is the case with some of my screens here early evening, 18:00 onward as the lighting looks good then also and adds a bit of atmosphere.

Some of the shots here may have been altered in an image program by their authors to create a particularily pleasing shot.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

I tend to usually have my texture setting to Original, strangly for all the comments I've read on how bad the textures are in CLoD I actually find the landscape quite pleasing.  I guess most of it can be put down to time of day and the lighting, I personally prefer to fly it early evening.

Here is a shot set to the high option at 14:00:

Lovely shot over London there Bravo, to anyone who has a rig capable of playing the sim with all the settings at max it must be a gorgeous experience. 8)  Even though it has had its fair share of criticism I think it fair to say that since the recent patch most would certainly consider it playable now providing each individual accepts the limits of their own machine and applies settings accordingly.  XP users beware though, it doesn't like it, and the link to an earlier patch on the 1C forums which did at least let you load it even though there were numerous memory crashes has now become inoperative. ;)

I'd be glad of any help with the config for DBW Otto, just assumed when everything was upgraded there would be no problems with DBW, obviously there is. :(

I've never played anything online, sad to say, maybe I should give it a go. :-\  I suppose I would have to do it with everything set to real, being an offliner I don't usually
do that, usually after work when I get the time I usually make flight time as user friendly as possible, just play and go, as simple as I can make it. ;)

For online I suppose I would need comms of some description, even if I went on and took up a gunners position, a headset for talking I guess would be a minimun requirement.
Would need to buy and set that up I suppose.  Thoughts from anyone as to just what is needed to go for an online flight whether as pilot or passenger would be greatly appreciated.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Hi Bravo.

What texture / video settings did you use to get this image quality?  My 1946 textures are so much cleaner than CoD I think I must be doing something wrong.

No kidding there is so much amazing stuff in this sim..it really is a shame that it released in beta form & thanks to IC and an awful lot of weiners it won't go much further than what we've got...but the Modders are hard at work doing one small step at a time ( http://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/index.php) and i'm sure the talented guys here will weigh in eventually too! ;)

 Dietz,

A few more questions.

Do you fly the sim at that level? or just sight see (screen shot set ups)

if you fly it, what type of rig do you have?

Did you have to mod the sim at all to get those shots or make it playable?

Mine is by no means a top of the line rig , tho I have lavished it with some $$$ over the years.Basically it was set up ( again ) about 21/2 years ago so it would handle everything IL-2 modded could hand out & be (somewhat ) prepared for CloD( although noone knew what that was going to take!)When CloD appeared ( bugs & all) I had to immmediately install 64bit Windows 8 just to get it to run at 4-18FPS & not crash.Even at that I was amazed at what I was seeing ( obviously not a whiner ( weiner?)) After some months waiting for a promised cure-all patch & have the final one come in,I bit the bullet and bought the best graphics card I could find at BestBuy.It probably isn't the absolutely best card I could get ,but they would walk me through a more than easy install & for under $300.00 it really boosted my rig's performance and allows me to play with almost everything on full perfect ( except maybe the buldings are a step away from perfect.) I could do a FRAPs on FPS but I'm guessing I get an average of 30-40 and a bit less with smoke & multiple bomb hits going on. I hacen't been able to boosr ant-lasing to any great extent, so there are some problems in slightly jagged parellel lines in some views,but overall this sim is simply stunning ( to me...)Yes I've added a few Mods ,but haven't played around too much with the basic setup-it works just fine in default settings.
So to answer your question ( i hope:)

Are these custom skins?  The textures look great, but when I play the skins seem so monochromatic -- even the pictures of the skin downloads I see look flat.

I'm running maxed -- is there something I'm missing?

I fly soley bombers online. And those who I really wish for , the DO 17 and the Wellington  are pure AI.
Status for Clod is now the same as IL2 , it is ready to be modded the crap of.
I wonder if it ever will be cracked

Please note this will not work over TF modded install.
You really need to create a separate copy of 1.11 (steam) version and apply the mod/mission pack  to that.

Hello Bravo/LeOne,

Looking at screens each of you shot I can see a clear difference.  Bravo's looks more like mine with little or no AA thus showing as hard lines.  Whereas, LeOne's screens look like AA is there with softer lines and a better look.  Key thing to look at is the radio cable for a given plane between the two screenie sets.

Thus, LeOne, can you post your nvidia settings and whether you are using an addon such as SweetFX or other?

On what seems to be a never ending quest to get CLoD to be easier on my eyes...

You are welcome, BTW what's overall more fun, COD or modded IL-2?
 :)

Such a shame none of these has either Mustangs or P-38s. :o  ;)

Not really true, but in both their own way got their strength. The realism in CLOD just overwhelming , but the chooses in IL2 is unique

The new Beau is a blast to fly. I only wish they could make a radar scope for the rear seater. That would be awesome.

For the radar, at the time they had none, this is BOB era. But it would be nice having ground control vectoring you to the target like it was. I like the Beufighter , but I am not smart enough to utilize it in MP as for now. My guess is that it will carry Bombs, Torpedoes and maybe rockets in 5.0 if we get North Africa map, witch I think we will. I tried out Blitz yesterday and I think this will be my main toy for a while, I really liked it, no issues with the install. And worked like a charm

We need more people playing this excellent sim (and more people helping TF add new maps, planes, and finish polishing the game!)

Here is some Desert Wings gameplay: https://youtu.be/pvGcyr4onLg
