CREDITS

NG-CAM combines into one mod some of the features of the following mods:
Credits to the modders above for their work. YOU ARE THE BEST!

Thanks sas1946.com admins, modders and rest of members for being there.

A word of gratitude to mission4today.com admins for hosting this mod. Thank you gentlemen!

FIRST THINGS FIRST

INTRODUCTION

All mods mentioned in the credits make use of the same classfiles and up until now you had to choose between one or another. It is great to have so many options but how disappointing and frustrating it is to choose!

Tired of switching mods forth and back I decided to merge, following the 'Keep It Simple' principle, some of the best and most useful (in my humble opinion) features of all available camera mods into one. Due to the nature of this merge, NG-CAM is obviously NOT compatible with any of the other mods.

Check below all features and have fun with NG-CAM! - whistler

The "Kill Switch"

The "Toggle Snap/Pan View" control key (F9 by default) is NG-CAM's "Kill Switch": enable/disable ALL camera effects with this control anytime during a mission.

Camera effects are, by default, enabled when "snap" is on, but you can invert snap/pan functionality: check the ngCAMkillswitch setting and set it to 1. Now effects are off when snap is on.

The Kill Switch is probably the most important aspect of this mod since you will end up using it often. I have the "Toggle Snap/Pan View" key set to F9 and also "Enter" for easy access.

Disclaimer: product not included in the mod.

Internal Soft View and "Focus" mode

New in version 2.0!

The feature unfortunately isn't available in gunner stations because the code is a little buggy and causes some lag. I am unable to find a solution and I shelved gunner stations for the moment.

Regardless, you can now enjoy smoothing in the Pilot/Bombardier stations and let me tell you it does make a difference! Particularly if you use a head tracking solution.

Internal views also implement "Focus" mode which activates automatically when you reach a FOV lower than 30 degrees. The camera movement decelerates progressively and this allows you to focus on targets easily.

External Soft View (Inertia)

benitomuso is the most ambitious IL-2 modder ever. The number of features of his VisualMod is mind-blowing. The execution is astounding.

For NG-CAM I borrowed his truly impressive inertia movement in external views. Starting with v2.0 inertia is available for all actors and I tried my best to make it feel responsive.

Go to Controls and set the following keys in the VIEWS section:

- External View (F2 by default)
- Next Friendly View (shift+F2 by default)
- Next Enemy view (Ctrl+F2 bu default)

Tip: if you use NG-MAP (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,59835.0.html) you can access all actors from the "Actor Viewer".

Make sure to thank benitomuso if you have the chance!

GoPro Views

SAS~Storebror brought back this mod to life with lots of awesome features and super-cool visuals previously available in other mods but not compatible with newer IL-2 versions.

For NG-CAM I borrowed the GoPro Camera Views and adjusted a few things here and there to improve usability.

Go to Controls > VIEWS section, and set a key for 'Chase View' (F8 is the default). During a mission, select any aircraft and press F8 to cycle through the different GoPro views.

The mod implements a time-based solution to allow the game remember the last view you selected: from the moment you press the Chase View control key you have 2 seconds to switch to a different view. Keep this in mind when you wonder why you have to press the Chase View key twice to switch views.

Just play normally! select your preferred GoPro view and forget about everything else. It should all flow naturally.

Ordnance View

A welcome addition for v4.13 by Team Daidalos, ported by benitomuso to 4.12 and available for some time in his VisualMod and as an EngineMod add-on by western0221.

Go to Controls > VIEWS section, and set a key (F10 in example) for 'OrdinanceView' ('Ordinance Camera View' in 4.13)

In-game, drop any bomb, torpedo or launch a rocket and press F10 to follow the ordnance. Neat!

LSO (Landing Signal Officer) View

New in v2.0! LSO Cam mod by "AG-51", improved.

The LSO View is available for all Aircraft Carriers but in non-inertia mode only. Just press the Kill Switch when looking at a carrier and the camera will be positioned at the rear end of the runway. Use the kill switch to toggle views (external vs LSO).

FOVMod Animated

Yet another masterpiece by SAS~Storebror. Many FOV Mods existed before but none were this complete!

Based on his FOVMod_animated_v4 (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,60470.0.html), I altered the code a bit:

Forever grateful for this gem SAS~Storebror!

Other Features

Head-tracking disabled in external views
I don't know about you but I just cannot control external views with my head. The mod will simply disable Head-tracking in external views. Use your mouse to control the camera.

Full Mission Builder
Camera effects are disabled when using FMB.

Recorded tracks
Camera effects are disabled during playback of tracks (Intro, Training, Recordings...) unless the "Manual View Control" setting is enabled in which case you are in control.

Pan around actors
When in external views, press and hold the right mouse button to pan or move the camera viewpoint around actors.
- Feature available for all actors except cameras
- Feature NOT available in Flyby views

In v2.0 I managed to get rid of the "Roll" when panning around actors (*) and the horizon now remains perfectly horizontal for professional screenshots:

NG-CAM version: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,67525.0.html

Configurable options in detail

Starting with v2.0 configurable settings will be automatically added to your conf.ini. If you have MissionProCombo-PLUS (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,62173.0.html) v2.1 (or later) you can configure these settings from the Difficulty Screen.

ngCAMkillswitch=0

The "Toggle Snap/Pan View" control key (F9 by default) is NG-CAM's "Kill Switch": enable/disable camera effects with this control anytime during a mission. You can invert snap/pan functionality with this setting.
Possible values are 0 (disable effects when snap is on - default) and 1 (disable effects when pan is on)

ngCAMspeedext=2

Set the sensitivity or "turning speed" of the camera in external views. It applies to aircraft and ordnance only (the speed is always "fast" for the rest of the actors)
Possible values are: 0 = off, 1 = slow, 2 = medium (default), 3 = fast

ngCAMspeedint=2

Set the sensitivity or "turning speed" of the camera in internal views
Possible values are: 0 = off, 1 = slow, 2 = medium (default), 3 = fast

Possible values are: Any number from 60 (narrow) to 120 (wide)

ngCAMfovspeed=2

Set the speed of the animated FOV
Possible values are: 0 = off, 1 = slow, 2 = medium (default), 3 = fast

On my PC, at least, the M4T download page for this utility is oversize. You need to scoot (scroll?) the page sideways to get to the distinctive download link which, as always, is on the right side of the page.

I hope you're able to download this, Fresco. It looks great (a large number of Go-Pro views, for example), and it works very well in my BAT/MUSKETEER. The fact that it's a JSGME mod is also a bonus; it'll be easy to de-activate if I ever need to.

Many thanks to whistler and benitomuso!

Is this normal with this mod? I was building a small mission to bomb a stationary ship.
Placed the ship on the map and by mistake I pressed F10 key.. This is what I saw...Its really kind of fun..
You get to see what the bottom of a ship looks like ..LOL

Hi <Gunny>

F10 works as a landscape toggle in FMB (stock feature). I didn't know it until now and it apparently does not conflict with the mod. Good finding!

But i don't forgett the fantastic modders who create first these mods by wich IL2 is allways so exciting.

Thank you all for the appreciation.

Great little addition.

I agree! The goal was to combine some features of conflicting mods, not to permanently replace any of them. Use NG-CAM as your base mod and activate the others on top when you need the extras.

But i don't forgett the fantastic modders who create first these mods by wich IL2 is allways so exciting.

That's right, neither do I: benitomuso, Mike, western... and all those that came before and left an imprint in our beloved IL-2, WE SALUTE YOU!

Thank you very much for your "trio" of NG, two of them are my favourites and the third, this one, i like it very much for the ordinance view.

I do have a question: on BAT I have activated the Pal Visualmod just because I like very much the "control" option, I mean the possiblity to change during a mission the plane I control.

With Visualmod I can still use your great NG-HUD + NG-MAP, but not NG-CAM because I see NG-CAM disable Visualmod, but so I miss the "ordinance view" of your NG-CAM  :-X.

Maybe there is the possibility to add the "control" feature (as in Visualmod) in your NG-CAM so we could have "ordinance view"+"control plane" together ?

Anyway Happy New Year to you and all people.

Hi blackshark,

Happy new year! Download the last version of VisualMod 9 (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,42495.0.html) and you are good to go. I am not sure what version comes with BAT but the last version of VisualMod already includes the ordnance view.

Maybe there is the possibility to add the "control" feature (as in Visualmod) in your NG-CAM so we could have "ordinance view"+"control plane" together ?

There is no need to 'copy' more features of VisualMod at this stage. If I cannot 'improve' it, I won't touch it. VisualMod works well with NG-HUD and NG-MAP as you already found out. I like having the control aircraft, walking pilot and rearm and refuel features but I rarely use them. I sometimes take my 3D glasses and load IL-2 for a Stereoscopic spin. Wonderful additions, nicely packed in VisualMod.

benitomuso is free to implement my mods in his VisualMod if he ever feels like releasing a new version. Virtual Reality perhaps? 8) (I cannot think of any other modder that would give VR a shot in IL-2!)

Regards,

thank you for your answer; I did not know that visualmod had "ordinance view" in it; the version i had (from BAT) was without it, so I dowloaded and installed the new one and now I have it  :)

One question: i will use NG-HUD and NG-MAP plus Visualmod, only thing I do not like in Visualmod is the "inertia" of F2 (external plane) that I disabled (PAL3DFollowInertiaEnabled=0); but i would like to have the on/off possibility during the flight as you managed to do in your NG-CAM (I mean associate a key to enable/disable it as in NG-CAM); may you tell me how I can do it ?

I tried the enable/disable in visualmod menu but if inable it with the menu (in flight) i cannot disable for the rest of that mission

At F2, it rotates the camera a lot, it TENSES.

Not possible as far as I know. You must use the menu.

Weird, it works perfectly fine here!

Hi DaVa,

Yes, we all get the same feeling at some point, I guess

VisualMod's inertia movement is presented in NG-CAM in its original form, with all its default, initial values. I can tell from the VisualMod topics a lot effort went to fine tune it. The result is an stunning effect, but we sometimes need responsiveness, hence the on/off toggle (Toggle Snap/Pan View control)

Use your mouse gently when inertia is enabled.

Hi all,
For sure I've missed something, but I do not kwow what!
In the Controls > VIEWS section, I do not find the 'OrdinanceView' (VP modpack without Visualmod) so I'm unable to see the 'bomb view'.
Where I'm wrong?

Hi chopperman,

I would say the mod is not properly installed...

From the download pick the folder VP-Modpack >> jsgmemods >> !#NG-CAM_v1.0 and move it to your VP-Modpack >> jsgmemods folder. Activate the mod with JSGME.

The OrdnanceView control should be then available.

Hi whistler

I have one question: i have problems checking my six with trackir (my old neck not happy to do it) so i was looking for a fast  way to press a key and check behind the plane without using the mouse; as a snap view check ...F2 is not a fast way to do it and i must move the mouse to change the view.

Well the F8 of this NG-CAM would be fine if I could change the sequence of the various F8 views so to have as the first F8 view the one that looks behind the plane ... do you think it's possible to do it?

Btw thank you  for the other NG mods too

Hi blackshark,

It is possible. It actually is a brilliant idea if it can be useful to pilots. I always prioritize usability and none of the other Go-Pro views have any practical use other than amusement. Request accepted, be patient though.

---------------------------------------------

@azura, I check the other day and the 'soft internal view' is created in a class (HookPilot) I am not very keen on touching. Lots of stuff going on there. I am afraid it is not going to happen.

VisualMod is an incredible achievement. Stick to VisualMod whenever possible. Leaving Go-Pro views aside, you get all NG-CAM features and then Stereo3D, Walking Pilot, Rearm & Refuel, Change aircraft, lots of Visual options and plenty more!

A great thank you whistler, no problem for the timing.

One information:  do you think would it also  be possible to change one of the many F8 forward looking cameras in one new backward looking camera placed at the end of the plane ?

A view without actors is a no-go. It doesn't feedback players with a relative point of view. Some users may wonder if something is wrong or broken. I am sure you understand.

Next Generation CAM (NG-CAM) Mod v1.5
:: Introducing the FOVMod Animated ::

1) External Views Inertia applied to Ordnance

I thought the Ordnance view was a bit bland and decided to give it some momentum. PAL's Visual Mod External Views Inertia is now available in both Aircraft and Ordinance actors. Remember you can toggle inertia on/off anytime with the 'Toggle Snap/Pan View' control key.

2) GoPro Views Enhanced

There was a request by blackshark to always go to one particular view when pressing the Chase View key and in version 1.5 I implemented a time-based solution to allow the game remember the last view you selected: from the moment you press the Chase View control key you have 2 seconds to switch to a different view. Keep this in mind when you wonder why you have to press the Chase View key twice to switch views.

Just play normally! select your preferred GoPro view and forget about everything else. It should all flow naturally.

3) FOVMod Animated!

Yet another masterpiece by SAS~Storebror. Many FOV Mods existed before but none were this complete!

Based on his FOVMod_animated_v4 (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,60470.0.html), I altered the code a bit:

Available conf.ini settings (optional!):

Code: [Select]
[Mods]
FOVAnim=1
FOVLog=0
FOVSpeed=200
FOVDefault=90

conf.ini settings explained:

- FOVAnim=1 // 0 is animation off, 1 is on (default)
- FOVLog=0 // 0 is off (default), 1 is on
- FOVSpeed=200 // A percentage value: 50 = 1/2, 100 = 1x, 200 = 2x (default)
- FOVDefault=90 // Stock FOV on 4:3 is 70° and on 16:9 is 83° - Mod's default is 90°

Forever grateful for this gem SAS~Storebror!

If you stop by say thanks to Mike for giving us the awesome FOVMod Animated!

Hi Whistler, its getting better with every update, thanks a lot. Small question: even with 'FOVLog=1' I don't see the FOV angle displayed on screen.

All clear here henkypenky

Is the HUD log hidden perhaps? Otherwise bear in mind [Mods] is case-sensitive: don't use [MODS] or [mods], it must be [Mods]

[Mods]
FOVLog=1

Hi Whistler, thanks for your answer; it seems that this isn't simple; I see messages Autopilot on etc in the lower right corner so I don't think the HUD log is hidden. Copied the text for config from the readme, so no fault there either..

I can only think of one thing: your conf.ini has two (or more) [Mods] sections and the game only reads the uppermost. Make sure you only have one [Mods] section at the bottom of your conf.ini. I have no idea otherwise.

EDIT:

[...] Copied the text for config from the readme, so no fault there either..

Don't copy the stuff with the double slash!

Wrong!

[Mods]
FOVLog=1 // 0 is off (default), 1 is on

Right:

[Mods]
FOVLog=1

Posts edited accordingly. Sorry guys, I thought this was obvious after all these years ;)

Two flies in one blow: my config had two [Mods] sections and I indeed had copied with the double slashes, seems handy to have the explanation next to it.  :-[ It wasn't that obvious to me, sorry.

Thanks for your support and keep up your great work! O BTW now it works OK.

Next Generation CAM (NG-CAM) Mod v1.6

We keep re-introducing features from other mods and fixing bugs or annoyances. In version 1.6 you can move the viewpoint by pressing the SHIFT key. This feature is available for ALL actors except cameras but only in non-inertia mode.

Press the Shift key and move the mouse, that simple. Your screenshots will look better than ever!

I also took this chance to adjust a few things and to fix a bug in the FOVMod Animated where the animation got disabled when jumping from a Bombardier/Observer station to an external view.

You know what my source of inspiration is, you've been there before ;)

The trick is to make it feel right, natural, and still, people will notice the horizon will roll as soon as the camera is not level with the actor. There's a different way to move the viewpoint but it didn't feel right to me because the camera was not 'hooked' the same way to the actor and the actor could easily get lost off screen. Well, imperfectly perfect will do fine I guess :D

Thanks everyone for the comments.

You should not use NG-CAM and VisualMod at the same time. It's one or the other. The game won't CTD but there are incompatibilities between the two.

You can turn Inertia on and off anytime with the 'Toggle Snap/Pan View' control (SNAP VIEW section).

how about having inertia ON/OFF (modded F2 behavior/stock F2 behavior) key set to something OTHER THAN snap/pan view key (F9)?
i think it makes this great mod even more useful.
is that possible?

Right now it is not possible, shahryar. Try instead PAL's VisualMod (you can turn inertia on and off from a menu). If you like flight sims you should seriously consider a head tracking device.

Does anyone else find that this mod crashes their sim?  I can't even get BAT to the loading screen when I activate it.  Fresh 3.7.2 install, no other mods enabled.

It's the same behavior I got when I tried to use the BAT FOV mod.  Others have discussed the solution to that (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=61124.0 (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=61124.0), https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=60423.0 (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=60423.0)).

It seems like NG-CAM incorporates the FOV mod so have others encountered the same problem and does the same type of solution work?

Thanks,

August

Hi and thanks.  I'll tinker a bit first, and post a log if I don't get anywhere.  I don't think it was ever clear why some folks had crashes with the BAT FOV mod and others didn't.  My hunch is that it has to do with graphics settings.

whistler,

Any chance you would create a Next Gen Walking pilot and Aircraft Switcher?  One of the big issues with the current PAL mods in BAT is that when switching to gunner positions, the Autopilot for the pilot disengages and the plane crashes.

Hi UB,

Good news is that Walking Pilot, Aircraft Switcher and all other PAL's VisualMod features will work even if you use NG mods.

Yes, I would like to take some features for a spin, but most come with many dependencies and I don't consider any critical to justify the work involved.

I take this chance to thank Benitomuso for everything he brought to the game. Looking forward to his return some day!

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah it would be awesome to see the features he made work earlier updated to the latest BAT.  I really enjoyed the walking pilot ant switching cockpit features, but for it to work well, we would need to figure a way to walk / swim on ponds and deal with those deadly bridges...  once that is figured out it opens the way for controlling other objects... got it, it is a flight sim, but one can dream.

Hi Whistler.  Loving the cam mod.

When using ng-cam 1.6  4.12.2 stock + sas modact 5.3:
If player is alive, "gunsight view" (zooming) works as intended. If perchance player dies, gunsight view ceases to function.

Also,
May I suggest mapping the "cycle gopro view" function  to an independent key other than the chase view key. That way, no matter what plane we are focused on, we can cycle the gopro views. Would be extra nice if it would remember the camera position on a per-plane basis.    [edit] As of now, this  desired "cycle gopro view" behaviour only works if the player has died.

Cheers,
Toba

Is there any way to disable the F2 "enhanced view" and keep the other features without changing to snap view. I get really bad motion sickness from the inertia and it's pretty jarring, and pan view is my main mode of view with the hat switch.

Hello,

Being used to PAL's visual for several years I was wondering if there was the possibility to have the panning view with ineria on?
Right now NG cam panning works by pressing shift + mouse left/right which is great, but the lack of inertia makes it non fluid. It's very bad when I'm filming video for example.
All the other views you get on NG cam have inertia on by default, it's just the panning that lacks this feature.
Obviously I switch between the two mods on my BAT game but it would save me a considerable amount of time if this could be integrated in NG Cam.
However I hope it's technically possible,
The Gopro views are a great idea by the way   :o
Thanks !

Whistler, thank you!
I have been using VM9 for just about everything, right on up until the implementation of triggers. I started having to turn off visual Mod because it would cause the triggers to CTD the game. I could never see the NG HUD while VM9 was running either. I guess I assumed that this NG CAM was a part of the other NG mods which had been included with BAT, and that it didn't do what Visual Mod was capable of doing. I'm so glad that I was wrong. When I read the banners for this thread I saw "BAT" and said "Wait a minute!" I just plopped it in, turned it on, and it did its thing. With all of my BAT goodies working.

I admit to feeling a bit like an idiot, but I'm so grateful for this mod. And it seems I can get the "Pilot Pal" to drop in also, so nothing is missing and I have extras. :)

Thanks Again!

All four mods should work in any 4.12 / 4.13 Modact-based game. HUD/MAP are integrated in BAT. CAM/PAL aren't.

Is it possible to move the numbers in the document to leave a little more "inertia" in the "inertia motion in the external view"?

For example, like "PAL-Visual MOD 8".

Next Generation CAM (NG-CAM) Mod v2.0
Head-tracking disabled in external views
I don't know about you but I just cannot control external views with my head. The mod will simply disable Head-tracking in external views. Use your mouse to control the camera.

Hello Whistler,

I do understand that you have trouble with the headtracking in the External View.
But for me it is just the opposite. I cannot get used to looking around with the mouse.
For some time i have now used the NG-Cam, but cannot get used to the disabled headtracking.

Just disabling with F9 does not activate the headtracking, so i had to disable NG-Cam completely.  :(
Is it possible for a future version, to get the option to enable/disable the headtracking, so we both can be happy while using NG-Cam?  :D

I really would like to use NG-Cam again, but not without the headtracking in External View.

Hi, Whistler!  ;D
I was going to PM you, but I thought that perhaps someone else may have the same question: Is it possible, for internal views, to use the mouse for the forward and back positioning like in the original VM9, using the L and R mouse buttons, instead of needing to assign a key? I ask because I currently do not have a head-tracking solution, (though a head tracker WILL come . . . one day  :( ). I play on a gaming laptop, and use a TV monitor. My left hand stays near the laptop's mouse pad, and a double-tap allowed me to move forward and back at will. Holding the right clicker on the pad with my index finger allowed me to move left and right. I know that this may not be possible, but I thought I would ask anyway. Mom always said "If you never ask, you'll never know.". :)
Thanks, Mate!

Installed on 4.12.2 HSFX 7.03 with JGSME (placed the folder from C:\Downloads\IL-2 1946\NGCam\Select a version\Manual (MODS) in my C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\IL 2 Sturmovik 1946\jsgmemods folder), mostly for the FOV mod and it does not seem to work. My understanding is to hit the "Wide View" key (PgeDwn) and it goes to 90 FOV, then hit PgDwn again for each 5 degree increase. Mine goes to 90 but will not go higher. Am I doing something incorrectly or is there something in HSFX that locks out FOV mods?

Please take the game out of the C\program files folder and move it to any other location on your dis(s). That is a win protected folder that makes life difficult when you install mods and updates! Even if you uses admin priviliges you´ll have hickups. After you´ve moved out test if game works  as expected or if you need to refresh your installed mods (in JGSME)

Was the F9+Shift panning function disabled in 2.0?  I have tried 2.0 in UP and BAT (installed per the correct file) and the F9+Shift panning function no longer works.
When I put 1.6 back in the F9+Shift panning function was working again.  Did I miss something or was it removed?  I couldn't find any documentation on this thread (I might have overlooked it).
Thank you.

Edit: I am an idiot, panning is now done with the R Mouse click.  Thank you.

Beautiful mod, enjoyed all previous versions including the Hud mods.  These are great, so thank you very much.

Just one problem.  With the camera mod v2.0 enabled in the #SAS folder (v4.13), the bombardier view in level bombers no longer works.  When switching from the pilot's seat to the bombardier's seat, either by cycling views or using the bombardier shortcut key, the view immediately switches to a stationary aircraft external view and the aircraft is seen flying away.

Switching to gunner's view - again either cycling or direct - does not cause this, however.  Switching back to the pilot's seat is also a non-issue.

Activating the "kill switch" and disabling the mod in-game does not fix this bug.

Deactivating the CAM mod in the #SAS folder is the only thing that helps.

Thanks again for your work, just wanted to point this out and ask if there is a way around this.   :)

It also will be great help if you can also post log.ini.  Thaat way the problems can be narrowed down and we can see what is causing the problems more quickly.

Cheers

Dear Whistler - This is superb!  Thank you ... Can I set it so that when I move from external back to cockpit I'm not zoomed right in?  Thank you again! ;D

If vanilla mean just as installed you have to download the mod activator before....

As your number of posts make me think that you're new in IL2 I suggest you ton install BAT: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,63246.0.html
