Title: Setup and Basic Stuff
Post by: Typhoon Ib on December 29, 2014, 06:41:44 AM
The community's and especially all of glorious Malone's "stupid Questions" go in here.
This thread covers the things you do from installation to basic controls, to first run.
not Steam stuff.
The basic stuff. honest, straightforward questions.
no Bullshit, practical answers.

if you have it running for some time, but encounter an issue, this is not the place... info will get lost.

SAS~Malone [29|Dec 03:45]:   anyone willing and able toanswer some BoS 101 newbie questions.....basic stuff, i hope.....
SAS~Malone [29|Dec 03:46]:   like, how do i get it to see my TIR, for starters? worked fine in the demo, but not the actual game...?

TrackIR:
use the trackIR 5 software (must) + update game list.
Even if you have trackIR3

older TrackIR(3) users
A temporary solution for TrackIR 3 issue wass found and implemented. Start the game, then close it, find the configuration file in <game folder>\data\startup.cfg, find the section [KEY = input] and set the parameter as shown: old_trackir = 1

Taxiing with the Fw-190:
As much as I found out so far, it's only possible to taxi with the Fw-190 with tail wheel locked (apply full elevator to lock the tailwheel) and using brakes all the time.
Only release brakes for some 10ths of seconds to roll forward a bit.
Use much throttle to have enough rudder authority.

Theoretically applying right wheel brake only intermittently should work too, but practically it doesn't since the 190 randomly shows a tendency to perform right-hand donuts too.

Best regards - Mike

thanks for the thread, good idea, and i wil no doubt be making extensive use of it.
regarding my question concerning TrackIR, i do have TiR 5, bought new a few weeks back, so that is not the issue. software version 5.2.200(build 14548).
thing is, i could play the BoS demo without having to do anything special, the TiR was basically plug and play, which it has been for all the other sims i've tried it with. but BoS itself, the TiR is doing nothing in-game, and i don't see any settings to activate/disable it, so not sure what's happening there....

i also have some taxi-related questions, but let me try and get past one thing at a time... :D

Is your BoS patched to 1.008 already?
I read there have been issues related to TrackIR in several versions before, up to and includin 1.004 apparently.

Update TiR profiles/gamelist , the newly added BoS profile may be your issue

thanks, Dak, but my TiR is set to auto-update. i don't see any manual option to update.
where can one see if it's been updated?
other than that, BoS does not appear in the game list, but then neither was it there when i ran the demo, and the TiR worked just fine for that.

Make sure that the default buttons in the TIR software for precision, center, enable, don't conflict with the BoS default assignments. I put the TIR buttons on my throttle.

mine looks exactly like that, except for the IL2: Battle of Stalingrad entry..... which is mia.
so, other than asking it to check for updates on startup, which i have already done, and stop/started it a few times now, and no sign of any update happening so far....what alternatives do i have?

ps: awesome assistance here, thanks everyone - at this rate, i should have it sorted soon :D

okay, happy to report that trackIR is now working as it should.
in the end, i had to resort to the ol' Mk 1 Eyeball to thoroughly scan my TiR software, and - oh look! there's a little message highlighted in red near the top right corner, which says 'Game updates'.......hmmm.....wonder what will happen if i click on that?
and hey presto...it's updated.
well, you were warned this would be a real basics thread, lol
~SOLVED~ :D

yes, the missing word would be tailwheel.
still living in IL-2 legacy land, where tailwheel is unlocked by default.
really have to start from scratch here.
and....that's cool :D

okay, another quick question:
re: the campaign, which you need to play online - is it a single player campaign, or is/can/must it be multiplayer?
my guess is it's single player, in which case why do you need to play it in online mode?
enlighten me, por favor....

The Dgen is not on your machine, the Dgen is at Big brother's.
when you request a Mission,
he writes it right quick and sends you the assigments on the fly...
that's why...

(also to grab a copy of your stats , hum hum...)

yeah, it's all a bit too 'Big Brother' to my liking. i honestly don't want someone watching every move i make with my game, when i just want to be left in peace and quiet to just get on with it myself.
as much as i want to support this, it's beginning to make me feel a bit queasy, the more i see/hear.
well, maybe just me and my paranoia, lol

Just a wild guess, but this might be related to "cheater protection" as well.
Since the mechanisms of BoS enforce you to play all those single player campaign missions in order to get your aircrafts unlocked, this would be the first attack point for cheaters.
When there'd be "saved game state" files offline on your PC, they could be altered before they're uploaded to the Steam Server, so you'd finish a sortie with 100 kills or something like that. Or you simply start 20 missions and immediately abort them, but in the saved game files you set them to be finished successfully.

As I said, just a wild guess. I'm not a fanboy of this "constantly online" thing either.

I am not happy with this either. I siriously am not. But then again, the Grind is so `well written` that it has very limited value and limits the impact this has to me.
So far, they can "Stick their Dgen in a Zip File", if you know what i mean.

it's likely to be able to track stats (use your game on any PC in the world!) [lolz]

and maybe for licence protection (one dude uses it in euro times, another uses it in asia times, switching accounts as timezones come and go, relocating in nanoseconds) [shut up, i am beaming myself wherever i want to in real time! Legit!]

Regarding the X52 and BoS: I tried to set the wheels on the throttle as elevator and rudder trim, but they only work in one direction... e.g. if I twist the elevator trim to "down", my plane gets trimmed down, but it won't trim up if I turn the wheel up....
Any ideas?

skylla

which plane? 109?
surprises me to see any axis working for trim ATALL. most are only possible on button

Post by: LuseKofte on February 21, 2015, 08:41:43 AM
You can get everything to work one way on hotas, only 109 got hotas control on a simular axis not called trim. You need to set up two buttons for trim up and trim down

As this seems to be Tech related I have a humble Question too.
Yesterday I went through the Update, after finishing all was fine (Taxying, Flying, etc.),
except me not able to stop that left Spin when trying Runway T/O.
As soon as I give Throttle it seems like one wheel blocks or Prop spin
neglects counter control (Rudder). Such behaviour is new to me,
a new onewheel-parking brake? Or my leftwing accidently
attached to the next Saw-Mill object? The tailwheel was locked, gave full rudder, still I did
my spinning, wtf  :P :\' ( Brakes reacted, ufff  ;) at least I could get to halt and
Taxy along, but this weirdo behaviour stops me from T/O, any clue?!
Thanks for the Headsup here and particularly on noob questions helping
us come along.

Kind Regards
Tobias

Sooooo...
what is the plane you used?
they all differ vastly.

The LaGG does not have a locking tailwheel (so good luck pressing the tail wheel lock button its completely useless...),
Peshka wants me to apply brakes all the time (stop and go, 1 sec. intervals)
Yak+ tail wheel lock= slowly apply power and play with the rudder, and you will be okay...
190 wants you to pull the stick back in order to lock the tail wheel...
haven't tried the 109 recently or the stuka or the Heinkel...

Ahh sorry, forgot to mention, I used the Bf109 Friedrich so far.
I bet it's some freaky settings, tried up today, went through the Settings, no
conflicts, inflight nice response. But on T/O it's all crap.
Tailwheel reacts the same in locked and unlocked position,
only response I get is Throttle and Brakes, that stop the left-spin-soup.
Kind Regards
Tobias
