Note: This pack will receive further updates to fix some minor glitches
(e.g. 3D fixes), but it's ready to use and provides full functionality
already in it's current state, so feel free to use it now and be
prepared for updates in the future.

Prerequisites (mandatory!):

You must have a modded IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 game patched to 4.10.1m or later
running in order to use this mod.
Furthermore you must have some kind of "DiffFM" mod installed in order to
use this mod.
If you don't know what this is all about, we recommend to use DBW 1.71 or
SAS Modact 5 since this meets all requirements by default.

*******************************************************************************

Installation:

For IL-2 4.11.1m / 4.12m / SAS Modact 4 / SAS Modact 5 / HSFX 6:

Put this folder in your MODS/#DBW/#SAS folder
and add the following lines to air.ini:

SeafireMkXV        air.SEAFIRE15 1                   NOINFO  gb01  DESERT
SeafireFMkXVII     air.SEAFIRE17 1                   NOINFO  gb01  DESERT
SeafireFMk45       air.SEAFIRE45 1                   NOINFO  gb01  DESERT
SeafireFMk46       air.SEAFIRE46 1                   NOINFO  gb01  DESERT
SeafireFMk47       air.SEAFIRE47 1                   NOINFO  gb01  DESERT

*** Additional Step for IL-2 4.10.1m / SAS Modact 3 / HSFX5 / UP3 / DBW1.7: ***

Rename file "SeafireLate_FM" to "SeafireLate_FM_411" then
rename file "SeafireLate_FM_410" to "SeafireLate_FM"

**** Important for DBW users and those who have installed conflicting mods ****

Remove all traces of Seafire duplicates in air.ini, e.g. this line in DBW:
SeafireMkXV       air.SEAFIRE15 1                       NOINFO  gb01  DESERT
must be REMOVED, otherwise you will get duplicate and erroneous entries
in the ordnance selection or even worse, the aircraft in question will not
work at all.

*******************************************************************************
Optional you can add the following properties file entries:

To plane_ru.properties:
SeafireMkXV              Seafire F.Mk XV, 1944
SeafireFMkXVII           Seafire F.Mk XVII, 1945
SeafireFMk45             Seafire F.Mk 45, 1945
SeafireFMk46             Seafire F.Mk 46, 1946
SeafireFMk47             Seafire F.Mk 47, 1947

To weapons_ru.properties:

Would be nice if you could show us what is in your logs.lst, and please don't forget to install this mod: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,19308.0.html in advance because otherwise your log contents will likely be truncated.

i would like to ask a noobish type question at this point - in what theatres were these operational, historically?

Taken from Wikki.
Post war, the Fleet Air Arm replaced its Merlin powered Seafires with Griffon powered aircraft, initially with the Seafire Mk XV and Mk 17 and from 1948 by the definitive Seafire Mk 47. In 1950, Triumph started a tour of the Far East, embarking 800 Naval Air Squadron with Seafire 47s along with 827 Naval Air Squadron equipped with Fairey Fireflys. Following the outbreak of the Korean War, Triumph was diverted to operations to try and stem the North Korean offensive, Seafires flying ground attack and combat air patrols from July until September 1950, when Triumph was replaced by HMS Theseus, equipped with Sea Furys. During operations off Korea, Seafires flew 360 operational sorties, losing one aircraft shot down by friendly fire from a B-29 Superfortress and a second aircraft lost when its arrestor hook failed to extend. The Seafire proved more vulnerable to the stresses of carrier operation with many aircraft suffering wrinkling of the rear fuselage brought about by heavy landings. Following the end of operations, when peacetime airworthiness rules were re-imposed, all but three of 800 Squadron's Seafires were declared unserviciable owing to wrinkling.

Just a little precision : I see 1 4.11 mark for this mod, but readme also speaks about DBW. Does it work on both version, or do I misunderstand something !

Thanks for the info !

Yes good work Mike !

perhaps later You  (ore someone else  8)) could fox some minor things  (wingtips of F.47 and F.45) ?

but nice to have the whole late-Seafire bunch

THX a lot

Doc

PS.  With this pack
I think "my" Seafire F.46 is a little bit obsolete  :-[

OK. I tried them last night.

-in DBW, no problem, they work OK as far as I have seen;
-in my HSFX (4.11), they work, except one (the MkXVII, if I remember correctly).

But the problem common to all, in my HSFX only, is that have some loadout problems, with rockets or bombs placed anywhere but not where they should. To fond the right, I have to search in loadouts, like if there were grouped loadouts. Anyone else has this kind of problem ?

Glad that you like it Doc. Yes, there will be further updates, but our 3D guys deserved a little break before working it over.
I don't think your Mk. 46 is obsolete Doc.
Our users love to have the greater choice and your 46 contributes perfectly to it. Who knows, maybe at some time we'll drop the one being in the pack now in favor of yours?

Yes, SAS~Mission_bug reported the same during beta testing.
I wasn't able to reproduce this issue yet but maybe if we collect more user reports something will show up later.
One known reason which causes this issue is duplicate entries in air.ini, planes_ru.properties and weapons.properties or more general some bad format of one of the .properties files.
The only occasion I've seen this happen personally was when I've had an old version of the Mk. XVII installed in parallel and forgot to remove it's corresponding line from the air.ini.
Hence my hint to you at the moment would be to double check you air.ini for another incarnation of one or more of these Seafires in it.

Best regards - Mike

Thank you so much Storebror!
Thanks Paulo, glad that you like it.

Let me stress that I just contributed a small part to this mod pack, more or less just collecting what great jobs our 3D guys did, frickled some new Java classes around it and did some fine tuning here and there. The main credit, thanks and honour belongs to the 3D artists being involved in the creation of these spitfires, for instance Birdman, Red_Fox90 and ton (just to mention a few) and to a lot of other guys who offered valuable information about late Seafires (it's really hard to get reliable information about them sometimes) and helped with various little and big contributions.

Thanks again and best regards - Mike

Storebror... I checked old MkXVII was removed in every file (weapon, plane, air, and the folder too). But still, no go. I can't use the new XVII, and have the problem with all the other new ones with the weapons, until I find the good combination.

This apart, they are OK.

Updated version available in first post.
To update, just drop it on top of your existing "0_Seafire_Late_SAS" folder (it's safe to remove it before updating as well since this is no incremental update, but a full replacement instead).

Nice opinions, but what should I do now?
Ah I see a solution. I'll remove the wings and cut empty weight, fuel load and engine power to 1/8 (fuel/weight) resp. 1/4 (power) of their current values.
This will make them accelerate much faster on ground, keep them from climbing up quickly and gives a nice underpowered feeling for sure.
Do you all agree to this solution?

I see a nice group of chinese advertisements, could you please reupp the images to your own space instead of crosslinking the images (which obviously is blocked by the owner)?

Regarding the wing: Count it as a stand-in. We've had the choice to postpone this mod another 2+?? years or release it as it is.

Thanks and best regards - Mike

Thanks for the report ACUMV.
I get the feeling that the ROC is generally a tad better in IL-2 than it was in real life.

Comparing the ROC ingame for e.g. another 18lb stock Spitfire you'll see that the Spitfire XIc for instance has a ROC of more than 5.500 ft/min all the way from ground to 3000m, that's 2000 ft/min more than the Seafire 47 performance chart gives us on military power.
Note that the Spit XIc had nearly the same power to mass ratio like the Seafire 47 (23 hp/lb vs. 22 hp/lb).

Another valid comparison would be the Spitfire Mk. XIV which is in HSFX 6 and underwent extensive FM testing by Aaken for the "expert mode" flight models. It has a similar Griffon engine with the same +18lb charge limit.
This one hammers more than 6.500 ft/min ROC from tree top to 3000m, that's 3000 ft/min more than the Seafire 47 performance chart gives us on military power, nearly double the ROC meaning nearly have the time to altitude.
Again the Spit XIV had nearly the same power to mass ratio like the Seafire 47 (23 hp/lb vs. 22 hp/lb).

Please see charts of Spit IXc and XIV below for comparison:

As you see, if we'd try to reduce the ROC of the Seafire 47 to the values given in document your provided, we'd thereby make it a sitting duck compared to all other Spitfires and Seafires in the game, so for the sake of balance I say we leave it like it is, since this way it seems to fit perfectly.

[Fullquote snipped]
yeah I know most aircrafts in this game has better ROC than real AC
sorry for our govenment blocks many sites, includes imageshack, I cant see that.
Is that a pic form IL2 compareHSFX6?  I dont have one. the 4.11ver shows 23.6m/S=4645fpm (Mk IXc LF+18lb)

first time I noticed ROC was in a fight betwee seafire47 and AI spitXIV. 47 was really amazing, win easily.
then I tested seafire47 alone, and discover that perhaps about 50% faster ROC than spitXIV
my game version is 4.12+Modact?I dont have HSFX installed.so no idea about spitXIV performance in that

Well, its OK if you wish keep this FM unchanged.46&47 are only things I can use against G56. 8)

Sorry that you can't see imageshack, yes it's an image of IL-2 Compare for HSFX 6.
It shows that between 0m and 3000m Spit IXc has a ROC between 27m/s and 28.5m/s and Spit XIV is between 33m/s and 34.5m/s.
Actually according to the climb time you mentioned, this should be pretty much where the Seafire 47 is.

i don't know when this all started, but not having flown these in a while, i have found serious fubar/snafu situation with these planes in both my 4.12.1 installs.
the loadouts display as a complete mess in the menu, some being repeated maybe half a dozen times, the Merlin 45, 46 and 47 don't even display at all, and the loadouts look no better with the two remaining models that work, having bombs duplicated, and some sitting off at weird distances from the plane. it's an abortion....
i've looked for conflicts, found none......needing some help, please.....:D

in fact, what i'm experiencing seems similar to what Gaston reported earlier in this thread.
i have made sure there are no duplicated ini entries, still might need to check the properties files, as the loadouts are a complete mess, both in the list and when they display with ordnance randomly placed all around the plane, lol.
strange that i had no such problems during testing.....

The single reason I ever saw for this kind of error is a duplicate/erroneous class entry for the given aircraft.
Check you mods folders and your air.ini for any additional occurance of a SEAFIRE15 class/entry.

Title: Re: SAS Late (Griffon) Seafire Pack
Post by: SAS~Malone on October 21, 2013, 08:21:54 AM
no Mike, checked that.
the single time that entry occurs in my ini is with the one from this pack.
i've checked for any duplicate classfiles - also none.
with both these installs i am using Pablo's MultiIni mod, but i've double-checked with the regular files and there's definitely no duplicated entry....
Title: Re: SAS Late (Griffon) Seafire Pack
Post by: SAS~Storebror on October 21, 2013, 10:55:45 AM
I'd like to believe that Eugene, I'd really do, but...

This part of your ordnance list isn't event part of the late Seafire Pack:
Code: [Select]
default
1x30dt
1x45dt
1x90dt
1x500
2x250
4x60hvar
none
and since it starts with that, this clearly means that a corresponding additional Seafire Class is loaded before this pack and that Seafire class overlaps with at least one of the Seafires from this pack.

guess i'll do a manual search, as my explorer search results show nothing.
i did find a 3do Seafire XV folder which i removed, and now the 45, 46 and 47 are displaying, which is good.
as for the loadouts, i just need to select those that display correctly positioned, and they do work, so for the most part it's now resolved, thanks mate

A similar situation, and another with some late Spitfire .  Error duplication associated with SAS_Engine_Mod. Try disabling and see the result.

Hi!

I have a similar problem with 4.12.2 and SasModActivator 5.30.
Mk.XV got all the loadouts, and the rest of the planes got none. Only the XV is flyable, but I can see all of them in the list. The game only loads with the XV.
I have a new game installation and tried to remove all mods from SAS, but still got the same problem.

Looked in the ini's but couldn't find any references to another Seafire Mk.XV, at all!

I havn't modded IL since before forgotten battles, so what do I know :P

Here with the same problem as Malone and Gaston, disorted loadouts etc.
Running mod-heavy 4.12.2
I can view the plane, I can fly it. I can arm it. In QMB.

...in FMB, things go totally FUBAR, having tested only the 47 - but I assume the earlier ones would be doing the same. I'm usually not able to view any of the planes in the object setting window (you know, that one with waypoints, loadouts,...), sometimes they pop up, but in 99% of cases I try they don't. The waypoint menu shows you that you have the first waypoint selected no matter what you do, even if you clearly have selected the very last one. Setting takeoffs and landings is also a pain, as it does not allow you to set them (it acts as "inner" waypoints) - so I had to first select the ship as a target and only after that I could switch to take off/landing, oh boi.

As for loadouts, only Default and 30gal. tank show up, the tank being grayed out.

If I have enough luck and manage to view the settings for each plane and set one as player, then I can fly without problems (though, in the briefing phase I cannot view the plane and re-arm it...

I would be really glad if someone knew a solution...

You've said it yourself already: Mod heavy game.
You should do two things at least:

Both steps are absolutely essential and eventually you will not be able to avoid testing which of your mods is incompatible with this one, because remotely we simply cannot guess that.

First hint found...

the "old" Seafire 46 FM has the same name as the new one in the pack...

...might be the conflict, will be removed ..
[It did not do anything]

More bugs documented:

Also, when selecting prev/next waypoint, it selects, but throws me back to "type" tab.

The reason for such errors is always the same and the readme clearly tells it:
Code: [Select]
**** Important for DBW users and those who have installed conflicting mods ****

Remove all traces of Seafire duplicates in air.ini, e.g. this line in DBW:
SeafireMkXV       air.SEAFIRE15 1                       NOINFO  gb01  DESERT
must be REMOVED, otherwise you will get duplicate and erroneous entries
in the ordnance selection or even worse, the aircraft in question will not
work at all.

Additionally, you did step two but failed to do step 1:
You should do two things at least:
  • Try it on plain vanilla Modact 5.3
  • Give us a logfile where we can see what happens in your game

There's no sense in trying to hunt bugs that don't exist inside this mod but are just a result from other conflicting mods which, as the readme clearly tells, must not be used in parallel.

Try it yourself and you will see it works.
Modact 5.3, Jetwar and dependencies:

Hi all!

Installed these in my Korean War build, next to the Mk.XII and Mk.XIV. I did not notice any of the mentioned load-out problems, and i haven't run them in the FMB yet.

4.12.2, jetwar, etc.

The Mk.XII and Mk.XIV seemed to run fine, though with a considerable amount of unusual, annoying stuttering at takeoff, which subsides gradually as i climb out.

Also, whenever i would choose to fly the Mk.XVII from THIS pack in QMB, the mission would load, I could start and fly the machine, etc. However i would have lost ALL keyboard control over ANY view point related commands.... I couldn't change zoom, head position, couldn't even go external. Furthermore, if i end the mission and fly any other aircraft, the problem now persists. I must restart the whole game to correct it.

Just in case this becomes an issue for others, i wanted to say that this fix seems to have solved all issues, including the stuttering of the Mk.XII and Mk.XIV:

Finally I found that Spitfire Mk.XII/XIV work perfectly if the mod below is installed.

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,18838.msg202495.html#msg202495

Or simply extract classfile 00B509F2DD168B52 from the mod mentioned above and put in any folder You wish.

Unfortunately retractable tail wheels of Spitfire Mk.XII/XIV don't work properly in 4.12.

Works perfectly in my SAS modact v5.3, 4.12.2 game.

If this has already been addressed by someone before, than just ignore me!

thanks for a great mod!

The problem here - https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=40022.0

Thanks.

Okay, so I had the aforementioned duplicate loadout problems with my VP modpack install. The class files that Stefan SG mentioned in thelink (4B598398AD1D180C and 08447B2E29097EB0) are in the !!00_0_FXEvolution_v4.12 folder that comes with VP modpack. If these are hashed out, the problem goes away. I have not yet detected negative effects from not having these files.

So the Mk XV was firing 20mm Hispano cannons from its 4 cal.303 gun positions on the outter wing?

Maybe it is my misinstallation, in my game the Mk XV was indeed doing that.....haha.

Last time I saw that happening, two white mice were dancing on the belly of a pink elephant who was flying inverted under a bridge.
Was it the same for you?

SAS ~ Storebror - thanks for the beautiful planes. But I came across little bugs:

Seafire F Mk XV - no additional fuel tank [90 gal. Droptank (new)] after selection in qmb. No mirrors in the cockpit view.
Seafire F Mk 45 - no additional fuel tank [90 gal. Droptank] after selection in qmb. No mirrors in the cockpit view.
Seafire F Mk 47 - no inner pylons for 8x HVAR kit

My version of the game: 4.13.4 + Modact 6.4 + installed ONLY your mod Seafire_Late_SAS (test).

It is compatible with 4.12.2 (plus Modact, BAT etc.) from the very beginning.

Cheers!

Thanks for this great pack! I discovered it only now! Works in 4.13! Much appreciated contrarotating props finally giving no torque!

Contrarotating props appear as having eight blades! Please, would you fix them?

Any chance to have underwing drop tanks too? So typical!

Sorry, I don't understand: reducing number of blades on rotating prop is difficult... impossible... useless... or what? May I have an answer, please?

Usually you'd get away with EUR 1.200 per day plus expenses and VAT.
But since it seems to be urgent in your case, you'd have to pay an additional express fee of EUR 300 per day.
