Combining skins by the highly talented team of skinners at Axis and Allies Paintworks with missions by FlatSpinMan, we aim to bring you immersive, and most importantly entertaining top quality campaigns.
Skinners include, (in no particular order):
RDDR

Rock
JaRink
Boelcke
Loke

SCENARIO
Tunisia, North Africa 1942/1943
In the east, the Desert Rats have broken out from El Alamein and chased the retreating Afrika Korps across the sands of Lybia. In the west, American and British forces land in Morocco and Algeria, driving hard towards Tunisia.

Sensing the danger, the Axis forces move swiftly to occupy and fortify Tunisia – the closest link to critical supply bases in Sicily.

The opposing forces collide in a series of vicious battles in the north and south of Tunisia. The armies exhaust themselves, the weather turns foul and both sides consolidate and build up their forces.

In February of 1943, the greatly strengthened armies hurl their newly strengthened forces into battle – the outcome will decide control of the Mediterranean, the oil reserves of the Middle East, and importantly, will lay the way for the opening of a vital second front fro the Allies via the potential invasion of the German Reich’s soft underbelly – Italy!

Enter the fray, first as a pilot of the Jagdgeschwader 53, and then as a pilot in the Desert Air Force!

Currently we are well on our way to having the Luftwaffe side of the campaign complete flying a BF109G4-Trop. We also intend to offer an Allied campaign but that is in the earlier stages of development and is likely to be released later.

It is envisaged that converted versions of the missions will be available too, to allow players to fly the same missions from an FW190 and both a Spitfire and the P40E.

REQUIREMENTS
The campaigns will be for modded installations only. I know some of our IL2 friends prefer the original version but there’s just too much good stuff for us to pass up, sorry.

Specifically it has been built for UltraPack2.01 with one essential addition – MrOblongo’s map of Tunisia, (available from the SAS website).
It should also run on HSFX.

Nearer to release date a comprehensive skin pack will be made available.

For more information, comments, or questions, come and visit us over at Axis and Allies Paintworks.

Cheers
FlatSpinMan

===============================================================================

Now for some teasers! Note: Not all skins are final.

1. Which maps are going to be used ?
2. What kind of campaign it is going to be: DCG, static, game's dynamic ?

Hi all,
Glad people are looking forward to it. I'll do my best to get the LW part out by December 20th, hopefully earlier, possibly later.
Sorry - yes, MrO's map is where we lay our scene, forgot to mention that. Mainly I'll be using the northern part as theat is where it is most populated but I'll be faking some places in the south which actually lie just off the map. No map could possibly cover the entire country and still do a good job.
Static campaign - I don't know enough about the other type.

Ranwers - I'm trying hard not to sprinkle camels and sheep everywhere. I'm also very fond of the rotting carcasses.

Right now there are a few Macchis around but nothing major for them. I'll try and fit them in. The main plane will be the 109 and I'll probably release a version for the 1290 too (though that will be the exact same missions just with aircraft swapped).

ok, recieved some missions from FSM just for a test flight in air around Tunis in 1943 :)

... first mission was to support the Ju 52 transports, flying in some urgent needed supply for our troops so i jumped into my trusty 109 and headed for the poor lads in their slow air trucks :)

discovered a lot of them but also discovered a huge number of B 25´s eagerly charging towords the prey

that was my first attempt to stop them :)

so, again i went on ...

finaly got some of them ... but suffered also

i managed to drive them away and consumed all my ammunition - and met this nice guys

headed towards them, intended to catch their attention ... which worked very well, but without amo it was kind of chanceless

with this behavior i managed to secure the Ju 52, still heading toword tunesia, a lot of them reached the airfield, but not all of them

i had also to use my parachute, but could reach the coast before jumping - very exhausting :)
Title: Re: TUNISIA '43 campaigns W.I.P.
Post by: Boelcke on December 14, 2010, 08:25:25 AM
second mission, stop the B 17 fortresses heading for our airfield ...

jumped into my plane together with some other guys waiting to take off (isn´t this bird nice?)

then we reached the fortresses

which costs me a lot of amo, but one fell down

then i heard all my comrades yelling at the radio ... enemy fighters all around ...

P 40´s and P 38´s everywhere

i managed to get out of these furball and reached the air field again

but in the very moment i landed the Bostons had jettisoned some nasty things

Bang! a nice surprise ...

Hi all. I'm back from hols and keen to crack on. An interesting development has occurred - MrOblongo kindly sent me the new, more accurate textures for the map and I think you'll agree they really change the look of the missions. They look very realistic and must have taken some work to do. They also show exactly why the LW used such innovative paint schemes.
As the first shot shows, it has certainly made spotting things harder - something I find difficult at the best of times. Spot the two planes in this shot.

Holy lord. I saw the reflection from the elevators and rudder of the tan 109 and thought that was the AC from a distance! I didn't even spot the other off hand.
wow, that's all I can say, wow!

Looking at the trees in the shots posted its like these guys took the memories of flying over iraq'i palm groves out of my head and put them on the map's. Amazing stuff.

in the load.ini otherwise I get a "load.ini error" too ...  ;)

Hi Mr Oblongo and you all here: installed the 4.10 (v3) version in my 4.09 UP201 install and it works normally (hope I get no problems later...) not via jsgme but as I usually do adding it in mapmods (I deleted the old version of course!)

FSM sent me a few WIP missions for beta testing, and although I don't use any pack, and I didn't pile up tons of mods in my game, I could fly them all...  ;)

I only needed to change a few regiments here and there and sometimes modify the type of an AC that I don't have in my instal, to avoid loading errors, and boy the least I can say is that there's some action ...  :P

FSM has surpassed himself here ...!!  :D

Phew. Very sorry for not being in touch for so long. Thanks to KiwiBiggles and Mick for providing helpful info. Many thanks to those who have posted such kind comments, too.

I'm afraid I have very little to report - real life plus my old, rediscovered pass time of reading have taken over my freetime. Then the news of Cliffs of Dover was announced and I had to read every single word online about it, even though most of the opinion is pure speculation. I even started playing a few BOB campaigns but my conscience kept bothering me - plus I wanted to try some more full on action. This Tunisia campaign has so much happening in it. I just need to push on and finish the damned thing! Think we'll start with the LW 109 version before the Allied one.

My original idea of having multiple variants of every mission may go out the window - it takes a lot of time - but the basicplan remains unchanged.
MrO - I have just downloaded the new textures in the 4.09 link. I'll give them a try in a moment. Many thanks for making them available for 4.09 too.

Whoa, thanks a lot, verte. I did that for a while too. Anyway, afraid it's not a Jedermann campaign but the feel is still very much the same.

I have to ask, flatspinman, will Herr Jedermann be making an appearance in this?
I've named my Il-2 profile "Willy Jedermann" in veneration for FlatSpinMan campaigns, I'm playing any other campaign as Jedermann :)

Hi jooooo,
As Mick suggested, maybe you have downloaded Afrika!, a campaign for the 109 E? I'm still working on this Tunisia on but making some progress at the moment. This campaign, when finished, will be for the 109 G4 Trop. I use the same installation as you, UP2.01 4.09, so you have no worries about installing and playing the campaign when it finally comes out.

Hello to the whole world!! I am a novice in in these topics: I have this campaign but only I can fly with the bf 109E. I have the last version of the map of tunez.he well-read this post often but I do not manage to solve it.
 I have IL2 1946 4.09m UP 2.01 and also 4.10m.

A greeting and thank you very much

Hey again CWMV
about overheating, on a desert map I think it's fair enough to turn off Overheating in the difficulties option. I tend not to but some campaign makers recommend it for the very reason you mentioned. I don't find it a big problem in general though. I usually fly with radiator  set to 2 (whatever that means) and, if there's not much happening will open up to 4, or even full open for a few minutes, even in a dogfight if I have managed to escape my attacker and gain some separation. I also try and keep the throttle below 80% most of the time, then when in combat I go to 90-95%, 100% if I want to killed or avoid being killed. And when strafing.

Forgot to post the pictures!
If nothing else, this campaign will LOOK great, thanks to the Axis and Allies skinners. They really are a very talented bunch.
NB, these missions take place on the MTO map. For a few mission I couldn't find  suitable spot on the Tunisia one as it mainly covers the northern area, so I found some places that align quite well with reality (except that the entire area is rotated the wrong way - a mere detail.) These pics are taken from the battle at Medinine. LOOOTS of ground action happening.

Hi Gerson
Nothing but the best for me! I use elephant's great pilot skins - I have them to replace all the default pilot schemes that came with the game. Also, in most of the shots here you can find the same desert pilot skins I used in Luftwaffe Pilot: Afrika! There are both Desert Air Force and LW skins. I'll include them in the campaign download if it ever gets done.
In the meantime, look here to find elephant's excellent and much needed work.
http://www.lowengrin.com/download.php?list.9
Get them all - they make the game look so much better.

Wow. It's been about a year since I got anything much done on this but luckily I am somewhat freer now and have got back into the seat, cleaning up, adding, deleting, changing, tweaking. It's still going to take some time but it is alive and kicking once more.
Tonight I transferred some missions over to redko's repaint of the MTO map - MTO Modded. It is stunning, just amazing.

Herr Pimpf
I always appreciate your kind, enthusiastic omments about my (mow long ago) campaigns.
This one, I gotta tell ya, is killing me. There's some really good things in there but I find it very hard to summon up the motivation anymore.
That said, it really isn't that far from being completed if I actually got down to it, plus, I am determined to release it. The whole thing was to say thank you to the skinners who have done such great things for IL2 - it was all supposed to over by Xmas, 2010 I think!
IT.WILL.BE.DONE.

Monty27 is helping me with the latest mod updates (all the version changes have been big put-offs for me, despite the clear improvements they make) so hopefully once that is done, I can check things work and finish off what needs to be finished.

FSM, they may be a long time ago but a well constructed campaign is a work of art to be enjoyed time and again.

Glad to see Monty27 is helping you as his campaign making is on a par with yours, good history and great immersion.

Lets hope these few posts help revive your enthusiasm for Herr Jederman, will he survive to the end of the war?

Very few pilots managed that feat in the Luftwaffe or any other airforce for that matter!.

I shall look forward to flying it over Christmas 2012, theres a little challange for you........................................ ;D

Thought I might bump into you guys here.
In at least one mission I did whack the Pik As on some FWs.
Thought it was right but if not, sing out and I'll change. In going to have to check every damn thing again anyway.
I've actually added a flight of FWs to every mission to make it easy to convert after the initial 109 release.
I'm still thinking its be fun to switch to the DAF too. I'd love to try these missions in a P40.

Btw, many missions are extremely unbalanced. Get used to it. It's 1943. The good times are over, Flieger!

I'm sorry I didn't mean to pick at it! I was just curious. As far as I know JG53 stuck to the 109. Wasn't the 190 introduced into North Africa by a Shlachtgeschwader? (EDIT:  III./Z.G. 2, III./S.K.G. 10, II./J.G. 2, Stab and II./Sch.G. 2 starting in Nov 1942).

But hell as far as I'm concerned you can make the 53'd fly P-40's, I just miss the exploits of Herr Jederman!

Oh lord and a P-40 version-f'ing A man, F'ing A. Would be, like, totally radical. Tubular.

TUNISIA CAMPAIGN UPDATE
(http://i310.photobucket.com/albums/kk426/FSMplanepics/Airfieldnoon.jpg)
CURRENT STATUS 27 Oct 2012 (that should really read 2010!)

- Most missions made, tested, elaborated upon, dressed with a slice of lime.
- Bases, ground battles populated and trimmed up a bit.
- Skins - largely finalised but there's still another round of checking and trimming required. I think I'll need to reduce the number as
there are so many types of plane in this campaign, so the current size of the skin pack would be unwieldy. We shall see.

TO DO

- Make a few more LW ground attack missions and a couple of Freijagds. Also, the "Great Escape" mission.
- Check all the skins yet again.
- Reorder some of the missions. I started off building sequentially then went off on all sorts of tangents, so now need to make sure
that missions happen at historically appropriate times - eg, when particular aircraft were in theatre;  according to actual historical
  events; und so weiter.
- Check the briefings for errors, add some historical background (wider war news, etc), make sure there is continuity.

CURRENT PHILOSOPHY
This campaign has always been intended as a way to say 'Thank you' to the guys who have done so much to improve IL2, virtually since day 1 - the skinners. Because they're such sticklers for accuracy I had originally intended to make this a historically accurate campaign. However, once again my imagination, general dissolution and utter lack of discipline got the better of me, so it is now "historically inspired" (I'm waiting for Hollywood to sign me up as a war movie script writer). Oddly enough, the more outlandish missions you will encounter are the historically accurate(ish) ones. You'll know them when you see them. They mostly involve huge numbers of Jim and Armin's skins being blown up.

To make for added replayability I have done two things.
    1. I made three versions of each mission, which will be chosen randomly when you play through in campaign mode.
    2. There's so much stuff going on in every mission that if you take a slightly different approach, the same mission can play out quite
differently. For example, once you might go hard out against the fighters. The second time, evade them and focus on the
bombers. There's generally a couple of decisions like that that you will need to make on the fly.

RELEASE SCHEDULE
DATE: I have no f&%#ng clue. I'm already two years late! Don't believe a word I say.
CONTENTS:
Initially I will release a campaign for the BF109G4 with DBW1.71 compatability. I think it'll be okay in anything from DBW 1.4, too, as that's what I made most of it with.
This will be followed by an FW-190 version using virtually the same missions and briefings.

Then I'd like to run them through Simon's FULL MONTYizer to see what other cool things can be added to improve them. I would have done this already, but as my IL2 time is limited to about one hour 3 times a week, usually when I'm falling asleep over the keyboard, I just want to get it out as is.

Also on my list is to release Allied versions for:
- The P-40. This is possibly the sexiest plane ever imagined, let alone built. I love it!
I imagine the player will be a USAAF pilot initially on loan to the RAF to gather experience (some US units served with the RAF/DAF
learning the ropes, I seem to recall reading, so it kind of fits) and then returned to his original unit. Ground and air-to-air = WIN!
- A pure fighter version in the Spitfire would be cool. I've never flown the Spit much, but I love her looks, especially in desert colours.
- If I can, I'd love to add a medium bomber version too, flying the Boston, and possibly a ride or two in a Mitchell.

It all sounds so simple - theory just a quick tweaking of existing missions. Ha! I'll believe that when I see it! We shall see how it goes.

And now for the teaser.
Willi Jedermann will be returning to the virtual skies   -   over Russia!!!!
He'll be reporting for duty in mid-June, 1941, at an undisclosed airfield in Romania.

Hi
Just checked in again. While I still have all missions, I don't actually have IL2 installed anymore. I may reinstall it again perhaps, but to be honest I don't play anything anymore.

Catachoulak - the iMac is good, well, once we installed windows 7 on it. Couldn't do a thing beyond browsing really before that. I don't know what PC you used to have but for me the Mac is far more capable hardware wise.
The process of installing windows on a partition using the bootcamp utility is remarkably painless, and I have no interest or skill in horsing around with that kind of stuff.
My only points to emphasize would be to hold on to current mouse and keyboard for the windows installation process. The wireless keyboard of the iMac won't be recognized until you have installed the handy prepackaged set of drivers for running windows on a Mac, but you need to enter some things before you get to that stage.
I downloaded an extra copy of OS/X onto a blank DVD as recommended in case I needed to reinstall it, but things went very smoothly.

The machine itself looks great and takes up so little room. That said, I wouldn't buy another in a hurry, I'd just get a similar sized PC, I think.

Thanks for the mouse/keyboard tip FlatSpinMan. I'm glad the conversion went well for you.

The only thing I know about a Mac is they look great and everyone in my line of work uses them. My pc is so old it received correspondence from AARP. I may end up with an iMac for work, and an updated motherboard/memory/graphics pc for play.

Glad to hear your up and running again but a great shame theres no more involvement with IL2

Had you considered releasing what you have made or is it all so incomplete as to be not worth it ?
Luckily I still enjoy the challenge of the Sim but I can understand as time moves on so do interests.
Just leaves to say thanks again for all the hours of enjoyment your past campaigns have given me.
One day I will manage to go from Spain to the end of the war without being killed........... LOL, then go  onto Korea as many vets did.
Enjoy your retirement.

Cheers.

Hey fellas
I just have no time on the PC these days it seems. At work 6 days a week (incl half days) which is a bit crap.
Anyway, I am just downloading UP3.0 with an eye to having a wee fling again as I actually have some time, and a day off tomorrow! It's been a busy term so far.
. Ray - Good idea. If I can get the thing working again I think I might just kick whatever I have out the door so that someone at least gets the chance to play it. I hate to post like this as I am hardly the most reliable person these days when it comes to IL2

Hi guys
Well, I installed Il2 and got up to UP3.0 RC4 then just lost all my steam. I had a quick fly around and it just doesn't hold my interest any longer - the graphics are getting too long in the tooth. If anyone would like to play the missions I have made I can send them to you and probably most of the skins too. If you want to play them or work on them that is fine with me as long as you let me know,
Perhaps if I was patched right up to the most recent update I'd find more interest in it, but as it is, it seems to finally be over.
It was a good run, IL2. Many thanks.

Sad news indeed, but real life is always a top priority. Take your break and if it happens, we shall be more than glad to have you back! Best,

Not too worry, we all move on and change direction in life.
I will miss any new campaigns from you , your detailing is astounding, just started 'Legion Condor' again , the flight over Berlin at night, all the streetlights and then the floodlit rally are simply a masterpiece.
Having built a few missions I know only too well the effort and time needed for such work.

Just remains to thank you for all the hours of enjoyment you have given me and so many others , thanks mate!

And yes , a brilliant idea putting what you have made up at Axis and Allies, it will be a pleasure to fly these last few missions .

(just in case you do find time for the sim in the future , it's easy to patch to 4.10 then DBW then Montys stuff, lots of great changes)

Well thank you most kindly, PP. I've always appreciated your feedback throughout the years. I'm glad and frankly amazed you're going back to Legion Condor again. I actually started revising it a year ago but again, it never went anywhere. With Rudi Jaeger's great skins and the increase in biplanes in IL2 it could've been a lot of fun.

Anyway, just today I was thinking of briefings from Jedermann in Stalingrad - I think I have the first line of dialogue already - so perhaps we'll see Willi ride again. No promises though. If I have learnt anything in these past few years, it's that.

Many thanks to you, and all the...hold on a second...62,575 downloads at Mission4Today (who have always graciously hosted my work).
That kind of response has made the whole thing so worth it, especially when I got reviews and emails from players. I know that ours is such a tiny corner of the internet, but it really was fun providing stuff that was so eagerly anticipated then enjoyed by the community. It's just a shame that it has all petered out for me.
Despite the massive strides achieved by the modders, many of which  I deem absolutely indispensable to IL2, the fact of modding was what killed it for me. This Tunisia campaign was developed through several map versions (actual and anticipated) plus numerous changes in objects, flyables, loadouts, AI. This is not to blame anyone as the achievements were definitely worthwhile, but each time they robbed me of a little momentum in a hobby that was already palling slightly for me anyway.

I am definitely looking forward to the new version to be released in early Q2 next year - one version to rule them all is what I'm looking forward to. Plus, all going well, I finally get the chance to take Willi Jedermann East.
