==========================================================================

Greetings everyone!

It's been a while since I last popped up with an update in regards to my sound mod and so forth, but to keep things a little up to speed, here's the news thus far. Ever since my last version of VSM 4.0, I have taken a long and much needed break from sound modding (particularly out of no choice because of Hurricane Maria hitting us down here in Puerto Rico, and also due to my old ASUS laptop dying out). But with my new LENOVO which I acquired this February, I can return to my own little workshop without hassle!

Now, on to my sound mod as it is, I'd like to put my foot down for a moment. As much as I enjoyed laboring away at helping B.A.T.'s soundscape grow and flourish, I have decided to gear my works specifically towards the VP ModPack. It's sweet, simple, and has just enough wonderful content for my IL-2 installation without the looming concern for an external hard drive (but that's just my personal preference talking... *cough* :-X) Case in point, this mod is where I'll be pouring in most of my audio works for IL-2.

But enough with the jargon. What in the name of Jeremiah something something has been going on with me and my audio works on this mod?... Well.. plenty! MUCH has been done with it since last time. Sound effects have been enhanced, .prs files have been tinkered with a tad further, engines sound FAR greater, and a few other unmentioned details lying around here and there. Needless to say, this update should be a most prominent one indeed. And after long months worth of college work, refining and tweaking, and other things life can throw at me, VSM 5.0 for VP Modpack is complete!

Designed with WW2-specifics in mind, I hope to deliver an engaging aural experience for anyone looking to improve IL-2's soundscape. Immerse yourself in the cockpits of these ancient prop-powered warbirds and hear them sing! Whether it's inside or outside, they each have their own melodies to harmonize once you start their engines. From the aggressive howl of the V-12s, to the deep throaty hum of the Radials, and so on!

I'll be seeing you around folks! Expect new minor updates, patches, etc.

Enjoy! ^_^

Thx a lot for your work and effort! Does this mod require any changes in the conf.ini or sound settings overall!? Keep it up! :)

Not exactly. This sound mod should work just fine, regardless of any conf.ini setup.

Expect the VSM 5.1 Patch sometime soon this week!

Among these updates are improved samples and presets for the Japanese engines: Sakae, Homare, Nakajima.
Also some better sounding Spitfire and Mustang cockpits, and some other things, etc.

It'll be a simple drag'n drop install in your VSM 5.0 mod installation.

Thanks a lot for your wonderful sounds.  I'm using il2 VP. Recently, I found that I must delete #00__0Sounds_hit to enjoy your wonderful metallic bullet hit sounds. Am I right, sir? Or any other idea and would I better to delete any other mods in VP to fully enjoy your sounds?
Title: Re: = Victor's Sound Mod (VSM) = v5.0
Post by: victor639514 on May 29, 2018, 08:44:48 PM
@azura

Thank you! Well, it's only natural for my sound pack's audio to work without other audio packs that might conflict with it. So yes, removing #00__0Sounds_hit, and #00__0Sounds_flak should open the door for my pack's impact sounds.

I seem to be experiencing a conflict.

Anytime my aircraft is hit with any type of gun the engine sound cuts out. The same happens if I hear a gun that is not my own or flak exploding.

For the record, I am not running any other sound packs.

What should I do?

Hello there!!!!

Got back into the sim after quite a layoff. Been updating and came across your fantastic sounds. I have to ask, do I download and install 3.0 to 5.0 and overwrite as I go? Not sure as I love the jets as well as WW2 planes.

Main question is where in #WAW3 do we install this????

Cheers

Victor's Sound Mod is the one-stop for all sounds in my IL-2 installs. Clear, crisp, faithful engine sounds. Every new iteration/update/upgrade of VSM has brought IL-2 to a whole new level. Victor, I appreciate your devotion and talent. Thanks for having shared your professional audio engineering with us.

Consider consolidating your (previous, current and future) works in two downloads (Propeller/Jets) or B.A.T-ready era packs. I am not sure I got right all your upgrades for my BAT (downloads are a little confusing) and I don't want to miss a single sound update!

Looking forward to Victor's next, greatest sound mod!

Sorry for these potentially dumb questions but, will this mod and benitomuso's Cockpit mod, be in next BAT update? Or they are limited to single downloads?
I know that the Cockpit mod isn't compatible with the newest Engine Mod but, still, will it be in BAT one day?

I'm kinda of afraid of installing it by myself :-[

It says:
"Updated 2016/12/26, formal release for v4.12.2 of the Game, Jets and SAS Engine MOD v2.7.1w Compatible."

and:

"You just have to install it over the plain (no need of Pablo's Cockpit Sounds version, because now it is included here) of Western EngineMOD v2.7.1w:"

B.A.T. v.3.5 MUSKETEER uses EngineMod 2.8.11 right?
Title: Re: = Victor's Sound Mod (VSM) = v5.0
Post by: western0221 on February 04, 2019, 12:06:49 PM
On 26th/Dec./2016, benitomuso(Pablo) released newer Cockpit sound mod.
It is compatible to simple Engine MOD 2.8.11w and Merge Effect + Engine MOD 2.8.11w .... without Full Throttle Flame.
But your hand-maid copy operation is needed in some versions, I write about it below.

Based on benitomuso(Pablo)'s Cockpit sound mod for v4.12.2 on 26th/Dec./2016.
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,48628.0.html
Need installing his package first.

-----

Without start-up / full-throttle flame visual effect branch.

+ SAS Engine MOD 2.8.11w and merging PAL's sound classfiles.
No need special download.
You have to install Pablo's mod and my Engine MOD 2.8.11w simple version (and its patch if exists).
After them, you have to copy 2x classfiles from Pablo's folder "00_PAL-CockpitSounds" into my Engine MOD folder "!SAS_Engine_Mod".
9147012A04461808 and C1175F8CD8B28230

+ JapanCat's Merge Effects and Engine MOD 2.8.11w and merging PAL's sound classfiles.
No need special download.
You have to install Pablo's mod and my "JapanCat's Merge Effects and Engine MOD 2.8.11w, but no others" version (and its patch if exists).
After them, you have to copy 2x classfiles from Pablo's folder "00_PAL-CockpitSounds" into my Engine MOD folder "!SAS_Engine_Mod_MergeEffects_20151031R".
9147012A04461808 and C1175F8CD8B28230

But, can i turn the volume up of the mask? I can barely hear it in the F-16 and F-4, while i have no problems in the F-104
Also, i can't hear the ejection seat sound, only the canopy jettinson.

~VSM 5.4.1 PATCH~

>>> https://www.mediafire.com/file/oh0wo3trkcv35vs/VSM_-_5.4.1_PATCH.zip/file <<<

Personally speaking, this patch culminates into what is probably the most ambitious version of my sound mod yet. Special attention has been devoted to many of the aircrafts' fly by sounds, but again as core part of my mod, I wanted the flyby value to come from the aircrafts' sound files themselves and not coded to play with a press of the F3 button. Jargon said though, this update will give your planes the voices only they can make as they soar at full throttle right past you. Go on a free flight, ground attack, or dogfight, and hear the results for yourself!

Once again, I cannot thank you all enough for the feedback and support you have given me throughout my audio adventures for this magnificent flight sim. It really means a lot and I hope to keep on breathing life into IL-2's soundscape in the future. Hope you enjoy! ^_^

Just place the according "Presets" and "Samples" folders inside your VSM 5.0 installation and allow to overwrite.

EDIT: Link has been modified with the corrected upload. NOW the sounds should work without fail!

Thanks Victor! I haven't tried v5.4 yet but be sure I will very soon!

So how do I get the full V.S.M experience in BAT? I don't know what's included in BAT and what's not. Let's get them all!

You offered:

v3.0
v3.1 Patches
v4.0
v5.0
v5.X Patches

Do I install all of them in order? v5 seems WW2/WAW only. Does v5 include previous v3, v4 WAW sounds?
Title: Re: = Victor's Sound Mod (VSM) = v5.0
Post by: victor639514 on February 05, 2019, 03:13:02 AM
@whistler

VSM 3.0 to 3.1 and onward have ALL the content for BAT's other modules DOF, TGA, JTW, and so forth, but for the whole recent WW2 bundle, then VSM 5.0 and patches onward contain ALL the previous content needed for WAW's soundscape.

[...] I wanted the flyby value to come from the aircrafts' sound files themselves and not coded to play with a press of the F3 button. [...]

And I applaud the decision and admire the results! It is all about personal preferences. There are some flyby sounds out there that make you (literally) bail out the chair. I rather have a more subtle approach and your sounds are MUSIC TO MY EARS.

You set very high standards in v5 already and it is difficult to 'spot' the differences at a glance but I am delighted Victor. All these sounds coming from the same devoted producer and same set of tools is a precious gift, and I am thankful.

Best all-round IL-2 sound pack ever. Period.

G'aawww ~ Thank you so much!!

It means a lot to hear this coming from a great community member as yourself! I feel this WW2-based audio pack could still use a little fine-tuning (particularly on the jets), but I'm real happy to see my sound work is paying off, even if this a simple modding project for fun. ~ ^_^

My possible future work might involve the VPModPack Jet War addon, but time will tell.  X )

Just an extremely rare shout out from this corner.  Using this mod in UP3 with the Clowns, and exhaustively putting it through it's paces in my DBW...I must say, "what a well crafted mod", here.  Finally, for me, my I-15's-etc to I-16's sound like something to be reckoned with.  Thanx and cheers for that.  Prost.

Downloaded three times, stopping by 97%.  :(
Time to try number four.
There's nothing wrong with the files themselves, blame it on your ISP.

Thank you victor639514!

All files downloaded fine.

Installed in v4.12.2 VP Modpack.
I disabled (-) the following mods:
- !!#00_GUN_SOUNDS_412_modact
- #00__0Sounds_flak
- #00__0Sounds_hit
- #00__1JiverSOUNDS_4.12

assuming the VSM "overwrite" this mods content, isn´t it?

Thank you in advance!

No prob! ^^

Normally putting (!) in front of a mod file name will give it priority among others or so. It'd be safe to assume it will overwrite in that case. Nonetheless though, yes. You must (-) or remove those mods you mentioned in order for all my mod's sounds to take effect.

Be on the lookout for my next patch!

It will feature minor yet significant enhancements for the Daimler Benz motors, among a select few and so on. Also... get ready for the NOISE of the Me 262! ;)

I Victor, one more easy question:

- The SFS files in SFS_AUTO  folder:
-- sas_sound_01.sfs
-- sas_sound_02.sfs
-- sasup_effects01.sfs

Will create any conflict with your mod? Should I delete them?

Thank you!

~VSM 5.4.2 PATCH~

>>> https://www.mediafire.com/file/7gclgjojb2r9cfl/VSM_-_5.4.2_PATCH.zip/file <<<

Back with yet another patch! Featured here are improved distance sound values and less overbearingly loud side pass sounds for the aircraft. The quality is still there (hopefully) but balanced out a little! Included are also better full thrust sounds for the Allison and DB-605 motors. Last but not least, the Me-262, the Ta-183, the He-162, and the Ar-234 jets are now thundering at full blast! Give them a try and hear for yourself!

One final addition are new weapon sounds for the aircrafts' machine guns, made to sound more punchy yet authentic to their real life counterparts. External and internal gunfire sounds will now declare that these warbirds do in fact have teeth, so let em' rip! ^ ^

Just place the according "Presets" and "Samples" folders inside your VSM 5.0 installation and allow to overwrite.

The only sound mod for IL-2 that matters.  And it just keeps getting better.

The new internal weapon sounds are amazing.  Not Hollywood at all but more of a mechanical knocking clatter.  Very well done.

The subtle improvements to the engines are much appreciated.  Especially the external prop tip noise on some of the aircraft.  Glad to see that you fixed the external "YouTube Video flyby" noise of the DB-600s (bf-109s, 110s etc.).  That was really the only complaint I had about the previous patch.

Sounds are probably some of the hardest things to get right.  You have an excellent ear and attention to detail.

Simply drop the folder containing the 2 folders: Presets and Samples into your games DBW folder. Run game. I always rename the folder to reflect which patch I have patched to.

EXCELLENT sound mod! including the updates!
The new MGs, Bomb explosions and new sounds of external doppler effect of passing AC is very well done.

One thing that seems quite low in comparison (IMHO) is the P-47 and the F6f. For such massive engines they almost seem to hum rather than roar. I'll defer to your research on the sounds if you deem them proper.

Just pop the #VSM_5.0 folder into your MODS folder and off you go!

Hi Victor,
I need some help: when dropping the #VSM_5.0 folder in the main VP mod directory (no additional mods) nothing happens to my VP mod installation. No change of the VP sound. By dropping the content of the "presets" folder and the "samples" folder into the corresponding "my_presets" and "my-samples" folder, there are some changes of engine sound and so on. What I am doing wrong?

Having some strange things happen with the MediaFire link for VSM 5.0 patch 5.4.2. My Win 8.1, IE V11, Smart Screen filter will not allow a dl of said patch. All others including VSM 5.0 dl fine. But 5.4.2 sets off a smartscreen filter alarm and refuses to dl. Tried multiple times and get a SmartScreen refusal (anti-viral or unsafe, or had a hiccup).

UPDATE: Well so I tried one more time before I was going to give up and bingo! No smartscreen filter warning, 5.4.2, downloaded just fine, I've scanned it multiple times for virus and malware in the zip and nada.

I tell ya, there's something strange going on with MediaFire. Well, maybe someone is hijacking and redirecting the links. But it seems to me the harassment pages or redirects follow the same routine as the MediaFire ad pop-ups. So it's like the issue "is" with MediaFire. I either get one or the other, an ad or a harassment page but not both at the same time. All manner of non-sense. I guess what one can get out of this is to just be aware of mediafire dl's and potential redirects asking you to dl something else or worse, and use ctl-alt-del, task mgr, end task, to end the harassment pop-up/redirect pages. Never a good idea to "click" on anything on a spam page as it might trigger an unwanted download. Just do an immediate kill of the link through task manager.

Not sure what is up with Mediafire but it has gotten far worse in the last few months. Not just SAS links, but links across the board for lots of game related mod dl's. None of these fake pages or redirects have resulted in anything beyond just being a nuisance thankfully, and all file contents have been just fine.

Hi everybody,

even though this post is quite old. Can anybody give me an answer to my question?
I like the VP mod very much (my preferred mod: from a graphic point of view even better than BAT - imo; and almost 100% compatibility with stock game missions and campaigns up to version 4.12.2) but the sounds are a little bit disappointing compared to BAT even by applying VSM 5.0 in the mentioned way.

Regards,

Thomas

I need some help: when dropping the #VSM_5.0 folder in the main VP mod directory (no additional mods) nothing happens to my VP mod installation.

It could be that:
- You've put the #VSM_5.0 folder in the wrong folder (it goes in the #SAS folder)
- You've put the wrong folder in the #SAS folder (make sure that the folder which you've put in the #SAS folder has the folders "presets" and "samples" directly in it, not in any subfolders)
- The mod priority of VSM is below the mod priority of the cannibalized JTSM2 which is used by VP modpack

The third possibility is the most likely. Read about mod loading priority here (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,65812.msg721162.html#msg721162).
