Aer. Macchi C-202 & 205
**********************************
Inspired by the excellent 3d reworks done by JapanCat, i've been playing around with the meshes of both the Folgore and Veltro, whose 3d was starting to really show off its age.
Landing gears, engine, blister, CF's and tail have all been reworked, some times rebuilt from scratch, other times by just redoing little details here and there. While at it, i took the liberty to change the old default skins too, as the mapping is still the same as before.

THX a lot for sharing Red_Fox90 ... ;)

Wonderful to see the Greyhounds being reworked :)
Might I suggest correcting the canopy? Too deep in my opinion...
(http://www.lightairplanes1.com/images/IL2/Simulatore%20Il2%20Sturmovik%20Forgotten%20Battles%20Pacific%20Fighters%20Regia%20Aeronautica%20Macchi%20MC%20200%20202%20205%20campagne%20missioni%20Download%20Malta.jpg)

As you can see, the glass is higher (or deeper, not sure exactly) than it should be.
Hope it is not a problem to correct...

Might I suggest correcting the canopy? Too deep in my opinion...
Too deep in what sense?
BTW i don't work basing myself on opinions, but on pics and diagrams.
And...why are you showing me a pic of the original 1C Macchi 202?
EDIT:
Wonderful to see the Greyhounds being reworked :)

:P Really beautiful, thanks a lot. :)

Very simple to see the difference at all angles: on real thing side window is a rectangle with larger bottom side. In game it is almost square...

on real thing side window is a rectangle with larger bottom side.
I thought that on the real one, the bottom side was NOT longer than the vertical part:
In game it is almost square...
If you take a look at the beautiful pics PA_Willy posted on the previous page (many thanks for them, really catchy ;D), to me they don't seem squared.
Very simple to see the difference at all angles
Care to elaborate, please?
I don't see what you mean.

My conclusion is that bottom edge of canopy should be moved upward just slightly,
Also see this (http://nendowingsmirai.yuku.com/topic/3416/Wip-Macchi-202#.UJLZdsXA8ug) model for good reference :)

Fantastic,thanks!!!
Can I suggest the tyres get a bit of "fattening"? The Macchi tyres were quite bulgy. If you would like I have a lot of publications on it (both original drawings and monographies).
It can be useful for this and maybe for the 205 too ;-)

I want to remind you all a bit , it is not mandatory to DL and use this mod. I know everybody is trying to help, but put yourself in authors place. After several hours of work, getting these suggestions, sounding very much like criticism and demands. This is a improvement and a very good one. I have google and compared many pictures and if you look in right angle I can only say I agree with author

Hi Red Fox90
Great Job ! :)
Many thanks, one of my favourite plane !
The level of details is fantastic !

Another jewel in the box.BIG THANKS! Red :) (http://i697.photobucket.com/albums/vv340/Bingo1957/021120121-18-10-1.jpg)

Of course! My comments are just a personal opinion from a scale modeler who is a huge stickler for 101% accuracy (or "rivet-counter" if you please)
i am enjoying this mod as-is and never meant that I am dissatisfied. I just wanted to make a few pointers if the author is interesting in further improving an already excellent and very much needed mod.
-
Hi Everybody
The original model is catastrophic !
This one and the 205 really need more than a lifting !.
These wings are so thick they make me sick ! :D
They look more like concrete walls than wings.
Compared to these the canopy still look like a jewel !. ( No offense here ;))
When I think that this fighter was, at the time , the best from the Italian stable and praised for his Ferrari outline , gulp !
Nice and courageous work Red .
Sonny Tucson.

I know what everybody is doing, it is just that this is not the first time constructive criticism appear in a finished mod. Overall it is happening every time a model come out. We have lost many modders because of this, feeling their work is not welcomed.
Red Fox can handle it, but in long term these kind of remarks are wearing authors down.
I spoke in general, In wip treads these kind of comments can be helpful. In a finished mod we are only grateful.
I know no harm was meant , we are cool.
-
To be really really honest, something for the wings can be done.
Check page 1, i'll add a download link in the hope it can a make them a little bit better in the part near the fuselage.
Regarding the wheels i opted not to redo them. There are already excellent packs for changing them, and i don't want to create confusion or incompatibilities ;)
And about all the rest: niet, nisba, nada, no, not.
I don't intend on going farther with them. For now this is it. So i'm glad you appreciate them and are so enthusiatic about them to give me advices to make them better and better, but i stop here for now.
I hope you can understand and enjoy what you have for now.
Cheers!

Scaricata il primo giorno! usata due secpndi dopo e adesso posso aspettare con tranquillità per i nostri altri cavalli di razza. grazie red fox sei un Dio! hahaha

Will give this a shot when I have some down time.
I can't believe some of you guys. I mean seriously, "oh hey this is great thanks but this is still totally wrong!" Isn't thebest way to show your appreciation.

Did you have installed it directly or adapted?
I'm asking because IIRC the AS/CB have a different plane folder name....

Did you have installed it directly or adapted?
I'm asking because IIRC the AS/CB have a different plane folder name....
Installed directly. Ok this is the procedure:
step 1: copy all new meshes from Red_Fox90's folder AMT_Aer.Macchi_C. 202\3do\Plane\MC-202_XII(It) and paste into C202CB\3do\Plane\MC-202XIICB(it) and MC-202XIICB(Multi1). Copy and paste also the new wings. Overwrite if requested.
step 2: go to MC-202XIICB(it) and MC-202XIICB(Multi1) folders and open with your text editor the mesh named "WingLIn_D0" , then add these lines:

Bye!
-
Thanks a lot for your tips!
I'll do it right now!
-
With a little work on the original MC 202 hier HIM file your mod doesn't look bad on the MC.202,1942 version either Red_Fox. (http://i697.photobucket.com/albums/vv340/Bingo1957/0311201215-41-48.jpg)
-
Gumpy, where does that 1940's version comes from? By the way, as far as i can see the CFs and blister haven't been changed to my new ones.
I'll see to implement it for all other variants in a next version, but the problem is that i'm utterly confused by exactly how many variants there are out there in the Il-2 skies. I knew only the ones that came in DBW...???
Grazie Spitwulf! Vedrò di aggiungere anche questa variante più avanti ;)
Thanks Spitwulf! I'll see to add that variant in future too ;)
-
Beautiful, thanks ;)
Always loved flying the MC-202.
-
As far as I know this is the complete list Red
MC-202 air.MC_202 2 i01 SUMMER
MC-202_III air.MC_202_3 2 NOINFO i01 SUMMER
MC-202_VII air.MC_202_7 2 NOINFO i01 SUMMER
MC-202_XII air.MC_202_12 2 NOINFO i01 SUMMER
MC-202_XII_CB air.MC_202_12_CB 2 NOINFO i01 SUMMER
The top one in the list is the 1942 version (sorry for my typo of 1940 version earlier) which can be made flyable by adding this cockpit https://www.mediafire.com/?kfpcda41kmfoqcl the author of the cockpits name escapes me at the moment but,I thank him for his work, and the 1942 version model can be extracted from any fb_3do01 file using the SFS Extractor.Oh and I had to take your CFs and blister update out because the 1942 version has a different canopy.
-
Hi
I have done some test and:
1) got the CB series working in a simplest way by adding your XII series file in two new folder named for the CB MC-202XIICB(it) and MC-202XIICB(Multi1) without need for text update because in this way your mod simply update the CB wich wings remain untouched;
2) adding the cockpit as above I got the MC202 flyable but I believe that it can't be the 1940 version as stated by Gumpy and so a series before the III because the III haven't the radio mast wich appear in this one and in the VII & XII and moreover it have a 4x12,7 mg when the III have 2x7,7 and VII & XII have 2x12,7 + 2x7,7....the game label it as a 1942 version when the series III is aged as 1941
-
1940 was a typo Walter.
-
shes always been a looker, now even more so :)
Cheers guys
-
1940 was a typo Walter.
OOOoopsss!
I was thinking that was a deduction from plane position!
Apologize for my misunderstanding!
Anyway I have take a look at my Squadron book about this great plane and read that pilots find ineffective the two wings mounted 7,7 MG and they usually discharge them or let them unloaded to save weight , also they don't like the 20mm german gun pod due decrease in performance; so this version with it's 4x12,7 MG can be looked for a late one at middle way between the need for more firing power and the desire to don't decrease too mauch performance....maybe splitting the MG on two trigger can be useful....and add a little MG fairing can be correct....
I have tried to see what happen if we add the new update and got:
Propeller some cm too farward
Canopy rotated
Left carriage perpenducular to wing
All other aspect seem good so a little touch in the hier can easily add also this bird....
All the best at all!

ouch! when I visited the site I spotted this thread but I thought it was an old mod...bloody superficiality!

Hello all!
After some tricks with text editor and MATLAB I managed to hide the boundaries of fuselage and wing sections. I also fixed some other bugs with smoothing and LODs so that we can enjoy even more beautiful MC.202. Just download my fix pack at http://koti.mbnet.fi/raukorpi/AMT_Macchi_fix.7z and let it overwrite existing meshes in this mod. Remember to install the wing update before this patch to get smoother wings.
Thank You a lot to Red_Fox90 for this great 3D update! I hope you'll enjoy it even more as this smoother version.

Thanks Birdman., Thanks Red Fox.

... many thanx RedFox and Birdman, I really love 3D improvements ... :P

Hi!
I have added all the fixes for the 202 and I got also most of them working for the series XII CB (fighter bomber).
About the latter , dear Birdman , your last fixes are incompatible with the wing loadout because even if the racks are shown , the bombs don't appear maybe due a missing hook....can you please consider to release a dedicated CB wing update?
Can someone tell me the correct folder name for the C202,1942 so I can try to add all fixes also at this forgotten bird?
Thanks for the great work all you have done!

Just open the D0 wing meshes of the bomber version in some text editor and copy their [Hooks] and [HookLoc] sections to the same files in my update replacing my hook data. Then you have done the compatible version yourself!
Can someone tell me the correct folder name for the C202,1942 so I can try to add all fixes also at this forgotten bird?

walter
That version is an older 3D model that should really be removed but is still there for backwards compatibility. Thus, the best option is to just ignore that one because the 3D model is older and not completely compatible with this 3D update.
-
Hooks added!
Now also the CB is overhauled!
About the other 202 I understand why it's not overhauled....well....I'll do as you suggest and I'll ignore it!
Thanks for your help!
All the very best!
walter

Wouldnt it be simplier to take a MC-202 series VII class, edit it, rename it into MC-202, this way you will keep orginal slot and keep compatibility and game would load new 3d + cockpit and you can use skins for it like for all others new MCs.

If the author is not against, with its 3D repair is possible to use MC-202 as a modification of the MC-202II c early filter.
Thanks for the great update! :)
No problem Guzknife, you have my authorization ;)
Just, be advised that i think there is an issue with the overlays as those markings on the fuselage shouldn't be there.

nice work redfox! many thanks!

M.C.202 from 1C received a 3D fix from Red_Fox90 and has a version M.C.202II-III from early in the filter.

There is a problem with this 3Dfix, when the wing gets hit, is reversed:
Quick fix:
Copy all Wing meshes (WingLIn_D0 D1 D2 D3 and WingRIn_D0 D1 etc etc etc) from MC-205_III(Multi1) and paste into MC-205_III(It) folder.
Backup the originals!
