The Bell AH-1 Cobra... This project was lost for some time but I found it and started working to update and restore it for the IL2 community. Thanks to Max_thehitman for sending me all the versions,skins and other material he had for her.
CWatson and I worked very hard to restore the project and add some cool new features. SAS~Storebor joined us and added the online fix for her and so much more.
Closed beta testers report great results online.

or knows of other things on the Cobra that they did, please let know so I can add them to the credits list.
Of course if I left anyone else out please let me know. This project has been through so many people its difficult
to know who did what on it. I'll be more than happy to add credits for work done.
Skins are included but not all have names on them so please can someone let me know who made them so I can add them to the list of credits.

One skin is 2048 so you will need the 2048 texture mod for that one.
We know that there are still many bugs to be worked out but we felt it was better that we let you guys have some fun with it even though there are things to be fixed instead of letting this stay out of reach untill its perfect. This only a beta.

To use the searchlight its best to click the key you have set for the level stablizers, move to gunners pit and use the light to hunt. :)

There should be a "court-Marshall-MOD" invented. So we can put those AI-pilots against a wall facing the firing squad. :D

imho, not since the Hind have we had such a nice heli FM, and this one is even more fun - i'd even say, the most fun-to-fly heli that has ever graced the IL2 skies! :D

One question: Cobra maximum speed is only 170 km/h?

Thats another bug we are trying to fix. I had to alter the FM for 4.12 to stop the over heating issue but gaining speed is proving difficult. Again, this is a beta. We thought we would let you guys have some fun with it instead of leaving it on the shelf for months until things were perfect.

we decided we'd rather have a fun, usable FM than historically correct.
if you'd prefer, we can make it go faster, and lose all its handling characteristics. so, which would you prefer, guys? it's one or the other, atm....
i'm also pretty sure we sorted out the salvo firing 'climbiing' above the reticle, and this issue might only still happen when using unlimited ammo - in which case, my personal opinion is to stop cheating, lol
if it's still happening with normal ammo, then something went wrong somewhere, again....

I'm crazy about the Cobra as is. I'll take handling over speed in this case any day. This is a great achievement.

I cannot load any weapon. Only the cannon. The rest of the weapons show on the menu but they don't show in the heli. What is wrong?

Mono27, it might help if you post up your error log, so we can see what's going wrong there....
as well as some basic info on your game version, which is something you should always do by default, when looking for tech advice... ;)
@ Rooman, as Bombs mentioned, it's still beta and we will keep working on improving the FM, but it will take a bit of time, as everyone is pretty much tied up with other projects, as well as real life commitments at the moment. as always, all we ask is that our members exercise a little patience until we can further address any issues. :D
this was only initially scheduled for release later, but we decided to give everyone a taste for now... believe me, there are still some great improvements on the way for this bird. ;)
as everyone should know by now, IL-2 was never designed for heli's, so they will always be a 'workaround' type scenario just to get them flying.
to expect realistic FM's is really asking too much. i don't believe any of the existing heli's are accurate portayals of their real life counterparts at the moment, and it's unlikely they will ever be. that's just the way it goes in situations like this, and i for one, am perfectly happy just to have a heli that i can fly without breaking into a sweat just to keep it steady, lol

also, this mod was tested mainly for 4.12.2 game, those using an older version like 4.10 might well have problems. for now, you should treat this as a 4.12.2 only mod, especially as DBW does have the info needed for some of the newer weapons.
there will be a fix in the future, but for now just accept it as it is.

If overheating is the only reason you altered the FM , you can remove the alteration because we can disable overheating in mission settings ,please .
So the Cobra could perhaps reach a higher speed ?

Problem solved!! I had the old AH-1 mod installed, and was conflict. I deleted the old one and leave the new. Now it works fine! Great model, thanks!

This thing is awesome, i put it in front of incoming enemy planes, turn the level stabilizer on, switch to gunner position and blast them out of the sky! Ofcourse the fact that it's cruising speed is 130-150 makes it difficult to get in front of enemy planes but it's still awesome. I used it in one of my favorite missions and got 14 kills but when i went back to base i ran out of fuel and fell from 2300m, but i pushed into a dive and glided down and i landed it like an airplane, not certain it is possible in reality but it was pretty cool haha.
To make it go faster couldn't you alter the direction of the thrust a bit, maybe use (invisible)flaps or something to make the thrust push the heli forward a bit? I'm not complaining, just an idea my brain conjured up, you probably already tried something like that... I got the idea from flying the Harrier.

I tried working with the flight model to get more speed but if I adjusted it too much it would shake badly. I would like to find a way to get more speed for it.

There is a small red button in the cockpit. If I push it, maybe it will give it "turbo" ....or

ok i got the cobra working its not the main folder you download that goes into sas its the folders inside it,,,,

Any plans on making this compatible with 4.13? Me and my friend are tired of waiting for a certain Digital Combat flight Sim to develop one and this is the next best thing... except it's not working atm.

Thank you very much for this mod. I will gladly use it. But I have one request. I hope what I'm asking, is not very difficult for you.
The AH-1 Cobra has great AI. But, except Cobras, I really like to fly on Mi-24, which has no AI. :\'( Is there a possibility of adapting an AI AH-1 Cobra for the Mi-24 Hind, or is it impossible?

There is a bug where when you activate infinite ammo, the rocket spins when you tilt the heli. (I don't know if it only happens to me)
Changing some numbers in the files of the plane was solved.
