[Readme]:
-=[Cyrenaica41 V1.0 for DBW & DCG]=-
A dynamic campaign covering events from April to December 1941 centered on the besieged port town
of Tobruk.
-=[Installation]=-
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Unzip "Cyrenaica41" folder and its contents to DCG main folder.
2. Make a backup of your "<< IL2 1946 Folder >>\DGen" folder!
Copy the files from "Cyrenaica41\DGen" folder into your "<< IL2 1946 Folder >>\DGen" folder.
3. Unzip the "PaintSchemes" folder and its contents to your "<< IL2 1946 Folder >>".
4. Start DCG. From the "Files" menu, choose "Optional Third Party Data Folder".
Browse to "Cyrenaica41" folder. Choose the "allcampaigns.dcg" file and click "Open".
5. Choose under "Mode" the option "Replace Career Generator (DGen) and set DCG
to operate in "off Line Career (Full Auto-Generation Mode)".
6. Choose under "Edit" the option "General Campaign Settings" and tweak as desired. Also "Options"
menu. Recommended settings are below under heading "DCG Settings".
-=[Starting]=-
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For the LW/RA and RAF there are separate Fighter/Ground Attack/Dive Bomber/Bomber pilot careers available.
1. Start IL2 1946
2. Choose a Nation/Service from list above and look for e.g.
* German Dive Bomber Pilot - Cyrenaica 1941 (DCG)
or
* RAF Fighter Pilot - Cyrenaica 1941 (DCG)
3. Click on a Campaign and then "Start"
-=[Notes]=-
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Why are some of the Luftwaffe planes not in desert camouflage at the start of the campaign?
Many of the Luftwaffe squadrons were transferred from Italy/Balkans/Greece/Crete and were wearing the ETO/temperate camo scheme used in those operations.
Desert camouflage was added over the summer of 1941 and the timetable.dcg file will do this for the AI planes automatically.
2. As always you have to select your own skin for your plane. Here are the recommendations based on the squadrons available to you via the Career interface in IL2:
German Dive Bomber Pilot: II/StG2
Apr-Jun = st_LW_early41_nm.bmp
Jun-Dec = vp_StG2_mid41_nm (the snake is there too, of course)
German Ground Attack Pilot: III/ZG26
Apr-Jun = vp_IIIZG26_early41_nm.bmp
Jun-Dec = vp_IIIZG26_late41_nm.bmp
German Bomber Pilot: III/LG1
Apr-Jun = vp_IIILG1_early41_nm.bmp
Jun-Dec = vp_IIILG1_mid41_nm.bmp
German Fighter Pilot: I/JG27
Apr-Jun = cn_1JG27_early41_nm.bmp
Jun-Nov = cn_2JG27_mid41_nm.bmp
Nov-Dec = cn_JG27_late41_nm.bmp
Italian Fighter Pilot: 360/378 Squadriglia
Apr-Dec = vp_generic_41_rnds.bmp
RAF Fighter Pilot:
73Sqn Apr-Dec = cn_RAF_73Sqn_41_nm.bmp
274Sqn Apr-Jun = jb_RAF_274Sqn_early41_rnds.bmp
274Sqn Jun-Dec = jb_RAF_274Sqn_mid41_rnds.bmp
3. The campaign is aimed to be as historically accurate as possible however some concessions had to be made to playability, so not every possible squadron
is represented nor are they always at the right airfield due to AI takeoff troubles. Besides, it's a DYNAMIC Campaign so the moment the action starts
events will deviate from history. In particular if you are flying as a RAF pilot you may feel like you are really up against it in terms of opposition numbers
on the ground and in the air. I have included an alternate timetable.dcg file in the alt_files folder which supposes that the Operation Tiger convoy (early May) carried
HurricaneMkIIbs as well as Crusader tanks. Then you can do some ground pounding instead of the interceptions/shipping cover missions that were flown historically. Also,
as we all know, the Stuka isn't the fastest ship in the galaxy so feel free to move your squadron up to Tmimi or Gazala for a shorter flight.
4. If you wish to fly as a (historical) RAF 73 Squadron pilot then for the first two weeks of the campaign you might like to set the action radius down to 50km to keep your missions close to Tobruk.

It's in the readme but a big thank you to the modders, the skinners who granted permission, the beta testers, Slink & WindWpn for getting things moving and last but not least - Lonestar67 for all his help and advice, he's got a pretty big schwarz! ;-)
-
Finally you´ve made it!! Absolute stunning work Moezilla.
Thank you very much. :) :)
-
Hi,
Many thanks for your work and to all the others who were involved!
I think many people will take a breathe now and can expect more campaigns for other areas except the Pacific! ;)
-
Are there any Ba 65s, or Ro37s in it?
cheers
David Prosser
-
@David Prosser - Not in at the moment. I know they were in the area but the Ba65s were mainly held back in Tripolitania while the Ro37s were used in a reconnaissaince role. So (as stated in the readme) as I couldn't include every squadron I chose the more operationally significant types.
It would be no problem to replace the current recon plane (Bf110C4 of 2H14) with the Ro37 or maybe drop a Stuka gruppe in favour of a Ba65 squadriglia. Also had plans to include the new 4.11 Italian tanks and the Cant Z506 as a recon plane but wanted to draw a line under v1.0 and then get some feedback.
If you have any more information or questions please share them. All feedback is appreciated.

@David Prosser - Not in at the moment.
No problem. Your rationale makes perfect sense.

:-[ Oops! I think I was mixing up the Ba65 and the BR20. The Ba65 went out of service in Feb 41 with Operation Compass. The BR20M was present in small numbers in Cyrenaica during the summer of 41 and if/when DreamK releases his version then I'll add it to the campaign.
-
Loved this campaign when it first came out as Libia41. It's not only updated . . . it's much improved ! Thanks Moe
-
Added a patch to first post to allow use of Manysh's retextured map.

2012-05-01 v1.01 - Updated to work on Manysh's retexture.
-=[Notes]=-
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. You will probably have to start a new campaign due to the changed routes that vehicles will use.
2. Uses the following path to the load.ini - Libya/JV69_M_load.ini if you have changed the folder name from Libya in your install
then you will have to manually update line 2 of the .mis files in the download with your new folder name.
-=[Installation]=-
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Unzip "Cyrenaica41" folder and its contents to DCG main folder. Overwrite if asked.
2. Copy the 11 files from <<DCG Folder>>/Cyrenaica41/alt_files/ManyshRetexture to <<DCG Folder>>/Cyrenaica41 and overwrite if asked.
3. Start a new campaign in IL2.

Nice..thanx for update!
;)
-
Nice, thanks for making good use of my (now quite frightfully old) skins! Been waiting for a campaign like this, downloading now. Do I need to have 4.11? I have the SAS Big Huge Ass Pack over a clean install. But it looks like it just takes the game to 4.10.1.
Thanks!
JB
-
Hi jbunnelle,
Thanks for your Italian Stuka skins.
DBW and 4.10.1 was what it is built for so you should be good to go.
Hope you have some fun.
-

Thanks, will do. By the way, still have all of my old custom templates for the Ju-87, G50, and MC200. Let me know if you need anything.
So I selected Italian fighter but the mission screen shows an empty map. Then I get an error message regarding the map when trying to load. Guess I don't have something set correctly.
-
One thing I don't understand is the way these are named.
Cyrenaica41 I/J/R/S/U
Ummm what?
I=Italy
J=?
R=?
S=Stuka
U=?
Am I anywhere close?

Are you trying to use the Manysh retexture files from the 1.01 patch? If so, you will need the Manysh retexture map from here - https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,23868.0.html
If not, please post the text of the error message and I'll help you out.

I didn't think anyone would care about the names so I just coded them with letters in a similar way to Lonestar's Coral Sea campaign which was a major inspiration to me.
If you want to hear how my brain works then:
I = Italy
J = Jagdgeschwader
R = RAF
S = Stuka/Zerstorer
U = JU-88
Maybe I'll update them some time to something more intelligible, for people who aren't me. ;)
-
Oh I see. Many thanks.

I assumed the map needed was included in DBW by default, since it wasn't mentioned. I have a clean install, with the big all-in-one on it (the 9.9 GB version, which I downloaded as a torrent from the second post on that thread). I also have all of the JSGME packs posted here. Otherwise, that's all I have. DBW enabled in Selector. Sorry, haven't done this in a while.

If you didn't apply any of the files from the Cyrenaica41\alt_files\ManyshRetexture folder then you should have the right map as it is included by default in DBW. You can check it in FMB. It's called Lybia N-E or similar. The text of the error message would be helpful. Sounds like there is a disconnect between the map the campaign is trying to load and what you have in your install. I haven't been keeping up to date with WindWpn's JSGME packs so I'm not sure if he's made any changes to the all.ini file that controls the map loading.

Ah, figured it out. Your post above clued me in. I'd cut and pasted those alt files into the Cy41 folder w/o having the retextured map. I replaced those files with the default ones included in your original zip and it worked perfectly. Thanks for helping me figure that one out. Looks incredible! So, since someone mentioned it, does this replace the Libya41 version on Low's site? Should I grab that one too?
-
Cyrenaica41 replaces the LIBIA41 campaign from Lowengrin.com for DBW users. It makes use of the new map, squads, vehicles and ships that come with DBW 1.71.
PVI.it the original author(s) of the LIBIA41 campaign on Lowengrin.com gave permission to WindWpn to make it compatible with DBW1.71. I approached WindWpn a while back to offer my help with any DCG related projects and he gave me the green light to update the LIBIA41 campaign.
-
Ok Im getting a great deal of pleasure from this, but I wonder why it is I can take a Spit MkI in the RAF campaign, but not a Kittyhawk?
Were there no Kitties at this stage in North Afrika?
-
:D I don't remember putting Spits in the campaign. They were all defending the homeland. Did you get upgraded from the Hurricane or did you use DCG to put yourself in one?
No Kittyhawks in North Africa until units started to convert in December 1941 (450Sqn RAAF, 250Sqn & 112Sqn RAF . Couldn't find records of front line service of Kittyhawks until early 1942. Tomahawks arrive in June 41 with 250Sqn and then 112Sqn soon after and a SAAF squadron. A flyable Tomahawk career wouldn't be a major thing to add in a future update.
I do plan on adding a few more mod planes like the Ro-37, BR-20 and maybe more if I can find the references.
-
I didn't do didly!
:D
I just installed the campaign, started it in dcg and there were spitfire options at campaign start.
-
blasphemy!
:D
-
Ah I see what you did there.
DCG at it's flexible best. When you start a campaign the way you did it grabs all the squadrons from the squadids.dcg file and you can choose from those and for the planes it checks your air force and the start date of the campaign and offers you any planes from the class.dcg file whose in-service date fits the time period. Hence you can choose the Spit and others like the Tiger Moth.
If you use the dgen files provided and follow the readme instructions you will be limited to the historically correct squadrons and plane types.
But listen, I'm not here to tell you how to have fun in your game. You want to do a "what-if" with Spit Is then have at it.
-
No I just forgot to add the Sven stuff.
-
Blahello!
Desert and sun.
Forgive me lack of history background if this is a case, but why RAF don't use any bombers agains ground units or Hurries as strafing platforms?
I almost lost Tobruk just after seven missions and "COMMAND" just transfer me far away from city from mission to mission.
Another thing... Italians really use only Fiat G.50?
Sometimes alone blonde knight apears in ME 110 "Ace" but he dies just to be replaced by another. - this looks silly, don't you agree?
I bet this is my fault in configuring DCG because i have weak gaming rig so i need keep things at minimum. This is the issue?
edit:
Ok i died as RAF pilot so i start luftwaffe, but when click on generate
Shit wont start up.
Why?
I starting to hate this game, most of the time there is something that need to be fucked up in this game.
I was thinking, damn if they use JONESOFT_GENERIC_MOD_ENABLER it will be HAVEN like in Silent Hunter!
But noooooo... shit is fucked up,nothing works and if works give it some time and it will eventually shits on you.
Why this not working ?
I follow DCG tutorial ..but patch files are set to private by mediafire user i don't know even know what this is for...
But i run some camapigns and everything seems to be allright, but now?
"Fuck you i don't start because im a old russian plane game and you flight only german and british planes!"
GOD DAMN.
-
Blenheims are active in the campaign and will target tanks and airfields. Bostons come later. In real Tobruk campaign Hurricanes were used to intercept bombers and protect shipping only. All Hurricanes were transferred out of Tobruk to Egypt by end of April 1941. If you want to go strafe some units then change your plane to Hurricane IIb in DCG -> Squadron Editor.
Italians were only using the G50 over Tobruk until some MC200s arrived in summer. Of course they used Stuka/Picchiatello and also BR20 as night-bomber.
The lone Me110 is a recon flight. But because it's a 110 he doesn't stay high and take pictures. He flies low and tries to strafe. Will probably try Ro-37 instead in an update.
With Luftwaffe campaign problem, what happens when you click Generate? Does game crash? Does button click and then nothing? Do you get an error message of any kind?
-
Zerstorer missions = suicide
First mission is fine (no Hurri's), after that, you're the first wave, with no escort and Hurri's everywhere.....love the BF 110 as a strafer and ground attack, but when their are enemy fighters in the area....you're toast.
-
Hi dpd1977,
The 110s are at their historically correct base but there's nothing to stop you from moving them further back or moving a couple of fighter squadrons to the same airfield. They may then be tasked by DCG with escort or sweeps. The DCG squadron editor can be used to accomplish this task while on the debrief screen (alt-tab out before you hit apply).
Historically accurate equals good gameplay (at least not always)
-
Good to know I can do that and I'll add some fighter sweeps to at least try to engage the Hurris. Otherwise the BF-110 is a crapshoot in terms of getting killed. The only plus being that you can make it home on one engine (but not if one is burning).
Love the BF-110 in Poland 1939 and in unchallenged airspace for ground attack. But it definitely was easy prey for fighters when unprotected. I know that's realistic, but like you said, in terms of gameplay, not so good.
-

OK, learned now that I should wait for the G50's to show up, then get to work attacking targets. It's essentially waiting for fighter cover. The BF 110 is a great stable airplane and I love flying it, but it lacks defensive armament
-
Glad to hear you're getting more enjoyment from the campaign now. Thanks for sticking with it.
-
Great Moezilla!
I tried only the 2 first missions and I am addicted ;)
-
Thanks for the feedback arquillos. Glad you're enjoying it! :)
-
Ok not quite sure what Im doing wrong here, but all flights only generate as 2 ship flights.
Hurri's, 109's, Blenheims, etc. All with only 2 aircraft per flight.
Any idea whats up? I mean I thought it was to reflect low numbers of operational aircraft for the Hurri's and 109's, but when I saw 8 two ship flights of blenheims I figured that something is amiss.
-
All squadrons are set to flight size of 2 with a couple of exceptions.
You can edit this in the DCG squadron editor by alt-tabbing out on the debrief screen before hitting "Apply".
If you saw that many Blenheims then multiple squadrons were chosen for that mission 45,55 & 113 possibly.
-
Ah I see.
Might I inquire as to why?
-
With 4 per flight and 2 flights per squadron it can take an age for all the flights to form up, especially the Stukas.
Also any issue with IL2's takeoff/landing AI on the non-stock map will be exacerbated by the increased numbers.
2 per flight was how it was tested but DCG is all about flexibility and if 4 per flight makes it more fun for you then go for it.
-
...pulling this baby out of mothballs! :D
-
It's on the to-do list. :-)
It was one of the main reasons I was asking Lowengrin for the carscolumns.dcg. I wanted some proper British/Australian/Italian columns for North African campaigns. I got sidetracked and will get back to it in a couple of weeks when RL is less busy.
Thanks for the interest.
-
That is music to my ears! I was watching the 1st few minutes of Valkyrie and had the desire to visit the North African desert (...virtually of course) :D
