Incomplete installation. Did you use 7zip as required, to open the download? Did you install all 17 items in the download into your game?

I had mod act 272, I copied all files over and restarted PC. Then when I start the game I get the new loading screen which says 3.0 on the top but still says 272 on the bottom left side. Everything is working my mods, maps, sounds, new GUI menu. Exactly what file tells it to show 3.0 instead of 272 ?
Title: Re: SAS Most Awesome Modact 3.0 for 4.101
Post by: SAS~CirX on April 16, 2011, 11:53:43 AM
you cannot just "copy all the files over". The guide says you can copy your mods over. And in the STD, you can copy your ini and properties files over (weapon and plane ru properties only, the other go into the XTD folder). Didnt say a thing about copying classfiles over or ANYTHING else from the old STD. You cannot just copy your whole STD folder over, cause now you are overwriting whole sections of the modact, and crippling some of the jsgme options.

Delete your XTD and STD folder, go back to the download , install fresh STD and XTD folder, and start again.

OK, I found it. I had left 2 files in STD folder from 272 which were..............
B44652EE36C23D32 and CB4787E2ABCAFD90. I really like the way all this is making our game easier and keeping everything fool proof, that is except for myself.lol................

Just between you guys and me ;D: Do you rather recommend using this Modact 3.0 or waiting for UP?
I ask because I have limited flying and installing time ATM, have to and want to test a final stage for FreeFalcon's upcoming Israel theatre.
Many thanks...in the end I will run and download all offered presents..

I feckin love this community. And this forum. And Histomod. :D

this modact and UP are two totally different things for different reasons. UP is a comprehensive pack. This is for guys who want to build customised installs.

so which one are you? Most are a bit of both I think.

That is why we made it so SAS Modact 3 and UP 3 can sit together in the same install and not interfere with each other . (In fact, I having one install that has HSFX5, UP3 (when it is out), SAS3 and Stock 4.101, all together. I just hit the exe file shortcut on my desktop for the one I want to boot up and presto.

Many thanks, CirX and F22-Raptor-2006, I think I will try out both versions and see if I also can get them both working in one install, since I like my customized mods versions and the UP sort of more generalized installs.

Tom

As I have no clue about JGSMEmods and I never use it (nor intend to...) I have a silly question: I see in the JGSME folder alternative SAS.exe files (256, 512, etc...) Now, I would like to use the 512MB .exe (as I always did). How do I do it? Disable my fbSAS .exe in my game's main root and copy/paste that one (marked with the icon)from the JGSME folder? Many thanks for any tip! I just installed the new mod act, everything is fine, I also tested succesfully my previous 4.101 (mod act 2.72) installation, no problem there too. This is truly a great job guys!  8)

you can do it that way, but for things like that , JSGME is realy perfect. But, any way that works for you is fine. Carefull to not use the 512 Tracker exe. The normal 512 exe has the same comic-style icon as the 256 one, only, it is red.

Thank you everyone!

Will HSFX, UP, and Modact versions of the game all read mods out of the #SAS folder? So one mod will in effect work in three different versions of the game?

no. only SAS will read from the #sas folder. mods in #sas folder will not be seen by any other modact. mods in MODS or FILES or any other folder, will not be seen by SAS modact.

I use San's FOV changer and it seems to be hard-coded to look for the il2fb.exe.  Is there a way to make it work with the new fbSAS.exe?

Thanks,

No. However, there are a few such things that do require an exe called il2fb.exe. Hyperlobby is another. I am almost done with a patch the US GRant has helped test, for those who realy need it, a set of SAS Modact 3 exe files that are called il2fb.exe again. It will be posted in this topic, in a day or two, and should be exactly what you need.

Thanks for the modact, it works great. I'd like to know that can I use old mods with it? I want to use Plutonium Universal Max:  https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=6631.0
Is it compatible with the new modact or should I use the older one? :-\ Because there aren't any "MODS" folder where this mod should be copied to.

Guys, please dont ask here if mods are compatible. Ask the makers of those mods. Any mod for 4.101 should work in this.

As for MODS folder, if you see the guide, you will see that the new MODS folder is called "#SAS". It is a simple substitution.

You'll need to give more information than that for someone to help you and find the problem ;)

It's like you are saying my computer won't start up! Help me! This doesn't really explain anything apart from the fact your computer doesn't work right now. For someone to help you they need to know what you have done to it recently in order to find out the cause of this particular problem in this example.

So, explain what you did and what part of it didn't work or what happened when you used the mod...

Everybody please note that Add-on 1 is added to the first post.

It is ONLY for guys who really need to use an exe called "il2fb.exe" for hyperlobby or other reasons. It is NOT recommended for anyone else, because of the inherent possibilities for confusion. It is a TEMPORARY solution, while we are finishing another much better solution for all users of the modact.

I installed the Il-2 4101 with a mod activator 3.0

in jsgme activated  SAS_ Ecran_Wide_4101

in my config is
[window]
width = 1366
height = 768
ColourBits = 32
DepthBits = 24
StencilBits = 8
ChangeScreenRes = 1
FullScreen = 1
DrawIfNotFocused = 0
EnableResize = 0
EnableClose = 1
SaveAspect = 0
Use3Renders = 0

but in the game is 1024 x 768 resolution

What is wrong?

Sorry but my English is not good

Currently yes.

The different Modact versions don't have anything to do with your FPS.
The FPS are solely affected by your graphics card settings, the conf.ini settings and the additional mods which you've enabled through JSGME or installed manually.

Jozef,
You don't need to run the game in XP compatibility mode.
Just put your IL2 installation in its own game folder eg: create a folder C:/Games/Sturmovik_SASModAct/... (not in the default Programs folder that Win7 allocates it to) and then right click on the il2fb.exe file, open the properties box, go to the compatibility tab and tick the box 'Run this program as an administrator'. You don't have to reinstall the game, just create the new folder and move your existing installation across.
Works much better that way. I am running the game on Win 7 64bit, no problems at all.

This is a great little Mod!
Installed as stated, runs as stated, no hitches.
The new menu background screens look awesome (especially in wide screen ECRAN view)
The small FX collection option in JSGME is brilliant and will definitely be a winner for those who count FPS as critical!

Thanks Cirx!

Thanks for the latest Modact.  I have installed it and is working as advertised with one exception, cannot get this install to reconize my video card set up.  I do have UP2.01 and MOD 2.72 on different installs and the video card is working just fine.  I have a Nvida card 250 1 gig and in my custom set up I use 16x anilazing, however Modact 3.0 is not reconizing my custom set up, there for the jaged edges.  Any suggestions?  :(

Thanks.

you need to add the 'sas' il2.exe in your nvidia program settings and enable the aa etc on that .exe, as its not called il2fb.exe anymore.

once you do that its fine.

if you start with the regular il2fb. exe you will get the stock game.
also, just to be sure, you are installing this over a stock 4.101m version, right?

UP 3 as I understand will have a base map pack in and there will be expantion option to include, basically all the maps in the world.  :)

A butcher bird? No problem, here you go: https://www.mediafire.com/?no747a3x6f13s06
Just put this file into the "#SAS/XTD/gui" subfolder of your IL-2 gamepath, overwriting the existing "background.tga" which resides there already.

Why don't you just wait until Ultrapack 3 is released?
That way you will have most of the task done already and can put those few planes manually in which are still missing, instead of dealing with mods coming from two completeley different base game versions (Modact 3 = IL-2 4.10.1, Ultrapack 2 = IL-2 4.09).

64bit HP, Intel Pentium CPU P6100 2.00GHz, has 4GB memory, so the processor should be capable of the 4GB option. If that isn't enough I'll keep looking.

I dont have Vista but I knwo that with Vista user have many problems having the game in program files , I think because of permissions or something. Even in XP I took my install out of program files. Make a copy of 4.101 elsewhere, or on another drive, it does not need to be in program files. I dont know if that will solve this problem, but it will certainly help with IL2 in future.

Arkbird: did you manage to launch it WITHOUT the 4gb option succesfully? That option is well explained and warned about in the guide.

Also, move your IL2 out of program files.
Title: Re: SAS Most Awesome Modact 3.0 for 4.101

also, just further about locating il2 in you program files folder, as advised here https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,19.0.html

it is not only advised that you copy your game folder to another location, but that after copying it, making backup copies of it, and then going ahead an actualy UNINSTALLING the "official" install in your program files folder, using the uninstaller on the install disk. This will get rid of some of the Malware installed on your PC by UBI when you installed IL2.

After that, use the no-disk exe https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,1117.0.html to start any stock game copy. Or the selector that comes with this upgrade.

my system is amd athlon x2 dual core ql-65 2,1 Ghz with 1,7 GB Ram

running the same set up on my second computer, I deleted my program files version, created a new folder in the hard drive i wanted to install the game on, chose said folder for the install directory and installed vanilla copy of il-2. patched up tp 4.101, installed modact 3 per directions exactly, then upgraged to modact 3.01 per directions excatly. You may not want to do all that work, but if all else fails try that! I am running vista as well on my crap computer.

you guys must not INSTALL il2 in another place. you must COPY your whole IL2 game folder to elsewhere, then UNINSTALL the one in programfiles. Re-installing elsewhere with the disk just adds back all the spyware and malware from UBI into your registry that you want to get rid of, although having it outside program files does help a bit in from the windows side of things.

by copying it you also should not loose your custom settings.

when i tried to move the game from program files i kept getting crashes at %5, the only way i can seem to get any modact to work is by just having a dedicated il-2 folder and installing into that directory. I am sure you are right, but i am not great with computers i just know enough to get by..

So Ive got 3.2 running great, now can I install HSFX 5.0 into the same directory, delete the files specified int he readme, and have HSFX with it?

I just installed HSFX 5.0 over my modact 3.01 installation(per readme) and here is what happened..it works! All i had to do was open JSgme and enable it. Once I did that HSFX is what loaded when i used the .exe included with the modact. When disabled the new modact window opened up with options to load different games. Note: HSFX is not one of the options! I am sure i did something wrong, mods from the modact 3.0 are missing in jsgme but i am pretty happy with setup i got on this computer(very limited hard drive space). On my main gaming rig I will not install Hsfx and wait for up3.0. but the short answer is HSFX is working on top of the upgrade.

I hope this helps with your question.

Just installed, everything fine. This is truly brilliant! I can play all my three versions of IL2 by clicking on the selector. Everything appears to be in place, I just tried a saved mission. Again, congratulations to Cirx, Hades, Storebror, and everyone else from the SAS and UP teams involved! 8)

Ok wierd stuff seems to have up and stopped, but selecting 6DOF in the game start menue will give me a 95% freeze.
Stock game, SAS 3.1, and HSFX 5 start and run fine as long as 6 dof isnt checked before start up in settings.
Only 6DOF mods are in JSGME; #SAS_6DOF NormalMouse by PAL, #SAS_6DOF XYMouse by PAL, #SAS_6dofTrackIR_ClassFiles.

to use the 6dof TRACK IR option in the selector, you must obvious have TRACK IR, and, you must also enable the #SAS_6dofTrackIR_ClassFiles in jsgme.

the TRACK IR option in the selection does not have anything to do with the normal mouse 6dof mods that most of us use, only with TRACK IR 6dof.

I will update the guide for 3.02

but having said that, enabling it wont cause a 95% crash, that happens when you try launching the international version with a russian exe.

I dont know what is going on in your install, but it cannot be good! :D

To test, I have an install here with SAS Modact 3.0 and HSFX 5 in. I just copied the selector into there alone (just the il2fb.exe) and enabled the "TrackIR 6dof" (even though I dont have trackIR), and started up HSFX5, stock and Modact 3.0 with the selctor with no hassles.

...I dont know what is going on in your install, but it cannot be good! :D...

Well it seems the problem was sitting in an office chair with a mouse in hand. ::)
I forgot to enable 6 DOF for either ???, then I rememberd to do so and enabled the new 6DOF classfiles. SAS 3.1 worked fine but couldnt figure out why HSFX 5.1 wouldnt until I remembered there were now two mods folders, Mods and SAS. So I enabled the standard 6 DOF (sans .exe of course) and all is well.
So, Ummm, never mind... :-X

Just for everyone's info, in about a day or two, we will post an udated version 3.02. It is just a newer version of the selector (you are on the cutting edge here, so expect this sort of thing). It just has some improvements called for from the UP3 testers, and a few additional or expanded features and checks. Storebror is working very hard to make this thing perfect.

For guys who have already updated to 3.01, this will be a simple small download of 1 file, you will just replace the il2fb.exe.(I hope! lol, as always, the online crowd are doing their best to throw spanners in the works  :D )

For guys who are still on 3.0, there will be a small upgrade package like for 3.01

For guys who still have not gotten Modact 3 at all, there will be a complete 3.02 download with udated guide.

This will be in perhaps a day, maybe two, but as with these things , one can never be 100% sure. This is just a heads up.

and to CWMV: man, dont feel alone. I have these little "lapses of focus" all the time. ;D Good that you posted though, because surely someone else will benifit from the hard won experience. Anway, as I said above, this is the bleeding edge of il2 modding, so we are all test pilots here. We were stuck in the "MODS/FILES" setup for so long, it takes a while to get one's brain used to something different.

HSFX is not one of the options!
HSFX is a "Classic Mod Game".
This setting applies to all game versions which use the classic "FILES"/"MODS" folder scheme, including HSFX up to the current version 5.0.1.

Hello, new here. Thank you for your modact.

Some suggestions for next version:

The included engine sound for tempest (griffon) is very annoying (The only sound that I get headache with :P). I suggest a change to an easier sound to play with.

The new propeller effect rapidly flashes too much on some planes with big propellers (Tempest again for example). I think the stock propeller is better choice (less invasive changes).

The EcranWide mod enlarges in-game fonts too much above defaults (icons/text over planes).  In the file "arialSmallZ.font" there should be no font above 10 (default max).

I have fixed them in my install, I am just mentioning them here in case others have similar annoyances.

Keep up the good work.

Hi U

All these things are either optional (you can switch them off), and, in the case of ALL of them, moddable. Indeed there are mods on this site that adresses everything you mentioned, AFAICR. If you made a mod to change some of them, post it in the guestmods section if you think others will benifit, and we will move them to the appropriate areas.

Hi CirX
Some problems
I tried to install a new plane and map for a new campaign and had a CTD crash, after that my il2fb.exe disapeared from the main game folder, and I had to reinstall it
Just to let you know I discovered that my Kaspersky antivirus is the responsible for the disapearence of the il2fb.exe, because the program is considering the il2fb.exe a threat to the system

As for the disappearing exe, in some rare cases where the game crashes at some specific point, the selector might reside under the name "il2fb.sas". That's when the game hangs (read: not crashes) right at the moment where the launcher should be initiated.
This issue can't be resolved since there has to be some renaming for the Nvidia users, where the 3D settings are tied to the name "il2fb.exe" which is kinda shared between the selector and the game launcher now.
Three things can be done in that case:

No clue what Kaspersky's worried about, ask them.

jt189, please check your ram usage setting and Expert Mode / Large Address Aware selection.
To be on the safe side, use 512MB and no LAA.
Anyway, memory issues usually end up in having no cockpit at all. If instead you don't have externals view (F2), I'd rather say you messed with your difficulty settings.

Best regards - Mike

my exe isnt really dissappearing... i drop it in to the game folder, it gives me the il2fb.exe with the red star, i play it once then i exit out of the game and i exit out of the folder. then i go back to the folder, and the il2fb.exe thats there is the old exe (F4U Corsair .exe)! when i run that it gives me the stock 4.10.1. then i try to drop in the new .exe again and it says "This action cannot be completed because the file is open in another program". any fixes for this?

P.S. my task manager shows that nothing is running.....

EDIT: my il2 was hiding under programs in the taskbar.. and now my exe has stopped changing. but now for the classic mod version is crashing at 95%. everything elts is working perfectly

EDIT 2: i just made an entirely new copy with 2.72 installed, then i patched to 3.0 then 3.01, and everything is working like a clock... hmmmmmm.....

Modact 3.0 is without the selector, so I read that it happens if you use the Modact 3 (i.e. non-selector) exe's too? I'd recommend a clean reinstall of IL-2 then.

I also have the antivirus alert about the exe but as I add it in the allow list I have no more warning!
Yep thanks for the report, walter_solito.
The issue here is that the selector, in order to provide a crt=2 compatible online-session with stock IL-2 settings, has the No-CD stock il2fb.exe embedded which is known to trigger false positive alerts on a very few antivirus programs. Since this isn't the selector itself, but the indispensable stock No-CD exe, so we can't avoid that.

Exe disappearing here too...
The next update (CirX already announced it) will implement some further security check to avoid this situation. We can't avoid it for sure - hanging and crashing games are always prone to this ugly situation - but we'll try to limit this to as few occurances as possible.

i try to drop in the new .exe again and it says "This action cannot be completed because the file is open in another program". any fixes for this?

P.S. my task manager shows that nothing is running.....
Doesn't want to fit, eh? If you can't overwrite it, there will be an il2fb.exe process running in the task manager. I bet my mother's ass on this.

EDIT 2: i just made an entirely new copy with 2.72 installed, then i patched to 3.0 then 3.01, and everything is working like a clock... hmmmmmm.....

I use Kaspersky too, Security 2010 for the rest of the week, then I get the newer 2011 box by mail. Egal, it comes with a so called special Game Profile, tried that? I used it once with the BF2 Mod Forgotten Hope 2, it's one of the most notorious games I ran on my Vista, keeps crashing if an ant farts in china and it worked with that Gaming Profile.
That came with the 2010 edition as sth. new especially for Gamers.
Go to the system Tray Kasper icon, right klick open the suite, in the main window just below the x button go to settings. Scroll down to the tab settings, at the end you should see Game Profile, enable all hooks and see if it works for you.
And as for installing software on

But to be honest I'm an offliner, means I do what Gamebooster does, just analog, cut all plugs and connections, services running, Antivurus off and enjoy this cool Modact 3.0 and now 3.01 they work fine without my Kasper. Here I'd like to thank you Storebror for this handy Switcher, not to forget Mr. SAS~CirX and the whole development team of SAS and UP, as for me it works splendid. I use the recommended 512mb setting, game is fast like my cat Luzi. What's the best is the supersonic loading time, with the old install you could have eat a Bockwurscht and drink a can of coffee, Really enjoying it, no probs here, Thanks.

If it's too much effort for you, you could as well want to wait for the next release which CirX already announced.
We have some new version in Beta test right now, with improved settings and, much more relevant to the frequent user, with security improvements which should get us rid of 99% of the situations where currently the il2fb.exe just disappears.

Add to that for TrackIR users who are facing trouble now, there should be improvements, too.

We just have to get that thing tested on a couple of different systems before releasing it.

I'm trying to install the J7W1 Shinden by Kodama.
I have tested both the SAS & regular IL 2 programs without any problems.
But when I do the copying of the J7W1 folder into the #SAS folder & rewrite the Air.ini, weapons_ru.properties and plane_ru.properties as according to the instructions in the STD folders my IL2 either doesn't start or crashes at 70% each time.
What did I do wrong?

So far so good, but a bit of head scratching when launching due to screen freezing after load.  You must have Freetrack or TrackIR running before launching Il2 with 6 DOF enabled. I was checking that my 3.01 upgrade was launching OK but hadn't started my Tracking software........ ::)
Title: Re: SAS Most Awesome Modact 3.0 for 4.101

I must admit that I don't have TrackIR, so I have to rely on significant user feedback here.
I somewhat read from your post that with the new selector, your Tracking software isn't launched automatically.
I have to guess: Does it start automatically usually, i.e. when using a "normal" il2fb.exe? If so, could you do me a favor and provide that il2fb.exe to me which you're using then? Additionally, could you tell me which files of your Tracking software are eventually residing additionally in the IL-2 game folder, if any?

We have positive feedback from some TrackIR users and negative from others, but so far only one single feedback really contained relevant info, all others unfortunately are just "go/nogo" messages which are kinda nice to have, but don't assist us in fixing potential issues.

Thanks and best regards - Mike

TR/IR has always required the software to be running before loading IL-2 (all versions) as far as I’m aware.

I have TR/IR ver. 5 software, Windows XP SP3 and the following order of loading and settings work just fine with 6DOF:-

- Run the TR/IR software
- Select “#SAS_6DOFTrackIR_ClassFiles” active in RH side of JSGME and close.
- Run the SAS activator
- Open “settings” within 4 sec.
- Select SAS Modact 3 (plus I use 1024 memory)
- Tick the box for “TrackIR 6DOF enabled”
- Save settings

After a short pause, the prog. loads just fine and 6DOF is also running well on my setup.

Can’t thank you enough chaps…..This is really a huge leap forward.

Just to pin point again, not mentioned in troubleshhooter, but widely common heard in Tech Help some decades ago, is just letting it load further up the File hierarchy:
Means if you experience strange CTDs, Mod is known to work and added lines correct, just Place i.e. "00_" without strokes before the Mods in this case all 3 Kodama Mods:
00_J4M1
00_J7W1
00_Ki-98
Or simply any other combination you prefer, just let it load before DiFF_FM.

Just try and see.

Hi all, man am I happy to have a week holyday while you guys launched 3.0 & 3.01. Installation worked good, no problems what so ever. Only got a quiestion; trying to add Freddy's P-51 cockpits but this mod has two folders: Mods and Files. The files in Mods are no problem put them in #SAS and it works. But where do I leave the files from Files.

BTW In the p-51B/C pit the windshield looks a bit dirty, are there 'clean' ones available?

create a folder in your #SAS folder, call it something like "Z_FreddysP51Files", and put the contents from the mod's files folder in there.

It is strange though that they have been split up like that, I wonder what in the mods you are installing IN ADDITION to the actual P51 cockpit that you may not know about.

Normally,  with all other installations (Vanilla, ModactV2.7/3, UP2) I can launch without Freetrack running to test installs, patches, graphics, config changes, etc. In none of those is 'Freetrack' automatically launched -  IL2 runs but without the benefit of 6DOF (which is fine for just verifying changes, etc).   With 3.01 I had screen freezing at the opening Menu (on 256mb but load crash at 95% with 512mb slider option) and thought I had screwed up with the update. It was only when I launched FT first then the new SAS.exe via the new start options menu (excellent addition) that IL2 loaded normally.

I posted if others thought their update was screwed, they must launch FT first (which is the norm) unless, like me, you have a habit of launching IL2 minus FT to verify that anything you have done is OK.  Its not a problem  - I just have to launch FT first and remember to do it when testing any changes.

@ CirX Thanks for the fast answer, did as you told and everything worked except that I could no longer fly the (stock) P-51B. But your remark made me think (I think) and it appeared that I never assigned any key to the neccesary controls  :-[ Swopping back and forth with Freddy's and Bolox' pit it turned out that I didn't even need all those extra files, so I deleted them. Now everything work ok. Thanks.

Heads up: Modact 3.02 will be launched later tonight. There will eb a full download option, as well as upgrade pack from3.0 to 3.02, as well as upgrade pack from 3.01 to 3.02 (the last is very very simple).

Also there will be updated guide.

It should sort most of the problems reported with the selector if not all. Thanx a bunch to the guys who helped with the testing yesterday. :)

thanx so far for the patience and participation in this little revolution in modding. ;)

I installed 3.0 when it first released, and I installed the 3.0-3.2 patch BUT, when I tried to run it, it said to copy to another location (I run Windows 7) so I did. I ran application, it starts up, then goes back to my game folder... any help out there??  :( Thanks a lot, great mod, just need the help to solve my "problem"... thanks! :D

it probably means copy your il2 game folder to another location. Is IL2 currently in your "program files" folder? If so, move it immediately. IL2 cannot cope well in modern MS OS "program files"folders. You are probably experiencing a lot of problems there you may not even know about. Move your whoel IL2 installation elsewhere.

This is some modification gotten implemented due to other users in this thread who reported issues with the launcher, which in fact could be tracked back to the game being installed in the "Program Files" folder on Windows Vista / Windows 7.
On those modern M$ Operating Systems, applications don't have write access to those UAC protected folders by default. As a result, IL-2 can't save it's settings, missions, stats, logs etc. and the Selector can't save it's settings, too.

In order to avoid further confusion and to make life easier for all of us, the selector checks at start time whether it has write access to a set of files in the game folder, which need to be updated by itself or the game. If the selector can't get write access to all of them, it will issue this warning message, which means exactly what it tells:

Get your game out of the "Program Files" folder if you're running Windows Vista or Windows 7.
And: If that's not the case, tell us the full story of your problem.

Best regards - Mike

Ok, I think I'm retarded or something, but the guide states to copy all 17 items into my IL-2 folder, but I only have 15 files/folders.  I'm crashing at 95%.  I installed over a fresh 4.101.  I do get the new switcher thing, but on anything I try to load, I get the same 95% crash, not even CTD, just stuck.

Appologies. the guide was updated from an earlier one. The Checking section was updated, with "15 items in total" in bold letters, as well as the list of the items was updated, and the screenshot of the 15 items was updated. it is just later on in the section where I forgot to change a part saying "copy all the 17 items in the modact".

I fixed that and I am uploading a whole new guide (1.7). My bad.

95% freeze is when the game tries to load a version it does not have. Like, if you try to load "classic mod game", but you dont actualy have a classic mod game installed, or "ultrpack 3", but you dont have ultrapack 3 installed. If you install modact 3 on a clean (working) 4.101, then the only versions you will be able to boot up past 95% are SAS Modact 3 and Stock game.

If you are launching modact 3, and getting a 95%, it is because your installation is not complete, to be precice, you are missing vital files from your XTD folder in your #SAS Folder. Or, possibly, you have introduced other files in your #SAS folder that are overwriting them (but this should not be a problem on a clean install). My gues is you are trying to launch "classic mod game".

Or, that your installation is in your program files folder, and windows is shagging you.

To get out of 95% freeze, ctrl+alt+delete, and kill the il2fb.exe process.

If none of this helps, then posting screenshots of your Main Game Folder contents(withthe adress visible), as well as a screenshot of your #SAS folder contents, and also of the XDT folder contents, may help illuminate the issue. A discription of the settings you are using on the selector may also help, as well as of your PC and OS.

yes, for sure.

I removed it because it was right at the top of the list.

for me personally, I just added the line

*              air.Placeholder

after the first flyable LW plane, or before, if I want to test a new plane.

you can just  copy any other country, like

*              air.Placeholder
********************BRITAIN              air.Placeholder
****************************************              air.Placeholder
*              air.Placeholder

and change the "BRITAIN" for any other one-word phraze. you can do this to subdivide any way you like. As long as you dont use two words with a space in between

Thanks CirX!!  I guess I just didn't quite grasp what was installed, stock 4.101 works, and SASModAct 3 works.  I'll finish re-reading the guide and get my HSFX working next.

Btw, beautiful splash screens!  Where can I find the file that has the blueprint drawing of the Me-262.  I think I'd like to make that the cover for my Flugbuch.  (I bind my own books, and that would be a perfect cover!)

OK---sorry for lack of clarity. So, I installed this patch last night, and followed all directions, etc. So, when the pop up said I had to copy my whole folder elsewhere to play, I copied it to my C drive--not program files or anything like that. So, when I launch game, skip the intro., etc., the screen freezes as soon as I get onto the main menu. The cursor freezes in the middle of that page, so I have to restart the computer. I don't know what I've done wrong, I installed everything as necessary, copied my game foler to my C drive, and yet, the game still fails to work. All it does is just freeze when the main menu comes up!  :o Any help, pointers; anything, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for all of the hard work you all do,

CArter

Perhaps the game is not frozen, you are just not focused in windows on it, but focused on your desktop instead. you can always try pressing the Windows key, to bring focus to your taskbar, and once there, click on the il2-Sturmovik tab which is running, which will bring the game back up and focus it

so pressing the windows key does not bring up your desktop or start menu at all? pressing ctrl alt del does not bring up the windows task manager at all, you entire PC is frozen solid?

if so, then I am stumped. Hope when Storebror gets back from his trip he has an idea, or someone else does.

Anyone else have this total PC freeze up?

cartfather229, please reinstall your game from the scratch. You've messed up something, don't ask me what exactly.

If the intro plays and you're able to skip it, this means that the game basically runs and as much as the selector or any other part of the launcher code is concerned, all has been done correctly already.

A "hanging" game with non moving cursor occurs when something keeps the game from loading the main menu correctly. This happens for instance when selecting some modded game version without having the regarding mod folders in place (e.g. you are running Modact 3 but selected Classic Mod version).
In that case Windows 7 users can simply press Alt+F4 when the game window is in front, this should bring up the "close application" window, where you can press tab+return, selecting to cancel searching for some solution to this issue. If this doesn't help you can still press Ctrl+Alt+Del to get into the Task Manager, but the mouse might be blocked there. In that case you can just use the Tab key and the arrow keys to make your selections.

Anyway, there's no common cause for the game to get blocked completely, and the most promising solution instead of wasting days to search for the reason (which often times lays back months in the past), you should really consider reinstalling the game from the scratch into some proper location (in your case: Not the program files folder).
By the way... when you said you installed into C: folder, I hope you didn't mean that literally, i.e. your il2fb.exe is not in the root folder of drive C: hopefully.

Just an educated guess, but since you ran your IL-2 from the program files folder already before and we all know that it can't save it's files and settings successfully there, all your settings are likely inconsistent already. Another good reason to start from the scratch.

I've installed the modact over a clean 4.101 installation, and the stock game runs fine. Anyone know what might be causing this?

If its any consolation I had exactly the same problem - Menu loading and frozen mouse cursor.  I patched from 3 to 3.01 and posted that I thought it was connected to Tracking software needing to be loaded first but since then I discovered I was wrong - it happened again last night.  I don't nomally have any problems 'patching' but this drove me nuts.  It seems to be ok now following removal of  various mods and then re-installing them again with JSGME. It may be pure coincidence (as with the launching tracking software first) that it now loads but if I have further problems I will just re-install from scratch!   You are not alone..... ::)

I think I have a few more questions regarding this Modact.  I don't think that I understand the way it works.  I do have the Stock game working, as well as the SAS Modact 3, with 6DOF enabled using JSGME?  So if I run the launcher, and select SAS Modact 3, I'm actually running a 4.101 with mods correct?  So what are the other two options?  Right now, Classic Mod Game and UP 3.0 aren't working, I understand that UP3.0 isn't out yet, so I understand why that's not there, but what is classic mod game?  4.09 modded?  Is that where I would put new/old mods?

Sorry, I have only used the SAS buttons before, and really only for the short while that 4.10 was running before 4.101, so I'm still kind of at a loss when dealing with the new structure and concepts.

Hi folks,

Game installation folder:
If you don't just have a "C:" drive, but also some "D:" etc., it's best to move IL-2 away from "C:" driver so you're safe.
Let me call the drive "X:" so everybody understands this should be substituted by a drive of your choice, then it's generall a good idea to create some folder "X:\IL2\" where later all you different game versions (in case you need more than one, which happens latest when you need to reinstall from the scratch) can be installed in distinctive subfolders.

A good place to start with a fresh clean IL-2 1946 4.10.1 installation hence would be

"X:\IL2\4.10.1 clean\"

If you've got enough free HDD space, it's recommendable to keep that installation and just copy it's whole folder to the new installation path (so you don't have to reinstall it from the scratch each time, but just have to copy your clean installation folder which has been untouched since then) to the new destination, otherwise, if you can't offer the required space, just rename that folder.

A good name for an SAS Modact installation would be

"X:\IL2\SAS Modact 3"

if you wish to update all Modact 3 installations inline or

"X:\IL2\SAS Modact 3.02"

if you wish to keep old versions for safety/comparison.

I don't think that I understand the way it works.
The selector creates the "il2fb.exe" and (if required) the wrapper "on the fly" and (if applicable) applies some additional user settings (such as ram size).
When you select stock IL-2 game, the selector creates just the "il2fb.exe" stock No CD version. That created file is binary identical with the one being available since IL-2 4.07.
When you select any other modded game, the "il2fb.exe" wrapper version is created together with a new "wrapper.dll" version.
One difference between the new wrapper and the good old well known one is that the original wrapper statically linked back to "il2fb.exe" for some function inclusion, whereas the new wrapper always dynamically links back to the executable where it's been called from, so it doesn't just work when the executable is called "il2fb.exe", but with any other name as well, so it can be called whatever is required.
Another difference is that the original wrapper statically loaded it's modded files from "FILES" and "MODS" folder, whereas the new version accepts parameter settings for these two folders.
The modded "il2fb.exe" being created is basically the same as the one being known for years, the selector just applies the memory size limitation, the 4GB process space setting and the mutual exclusion of parallel process instances "on the fly".
Additionally, the selector calls this exe with parameters for "FILES" and "MODS" folders according to the game type.

"Classic Modded Games" load their modded files from "FILES" and "MODS" folder. This applies to all SAS Modact games before 3.0, all HSFX games and all Ultrapack games before 3.0.
"SAS Modact 3" games load their modded files from "#SAS" folder only.
"Ultrapack 3" games load their modded files from "#UP#" folder only.

If you select an improper game type (i.e. the your mods don't reside in the regarding folder(s) or the folder(s) simply don't exist) the game will stop loading at 95%, showing the stock 4.10.1 load screen.

That's what the selector does, hope I could shed some light on this now.

Best regards - Mike

Hi There,

This maybe useful or not useful
On my system I have a number of drives with all varying disc space. Entire drive space available 250

C drive a stock game 4.09

D: 4.10 map making version / Sas Mod act 2.75
   4.09b1 map making version

F: 4.10.1 and Sas Mod act 3

G; 4.10.1 Sas Mod Act 3.2 ( I copied over from F drive and updated to 3.2 )

The new sellecter in Sas Mod Act 3.2 works a treat and is easy to use.

I may even install UP 3 when its available just to be able to achieve what the sellecter is supposed to do.

External Drive stock 4.09, stock 4.10.1 and an old 4.09 Sas ModAct version

I don't use desk top icons I always use the in game version icon. You just have to remember where all the game versions folders are.

Cheers Kirby

Thanks Mike, that is useful.  I have a wierd problem showing up now.  If I use the new .exe to start the game, use the switcher to select stock game, my TrackIr doesn't work at all.  Conf.ini still shows TrackIR=1.  Selecting the SAS Modact 3 version of the game, it works perfectly with 6DOF enabled through JSGME.  As a stock game, I won't effect anything by the JGSME correct?  But does it load a different conf.ini or something that doesn't have TrackIR enabled?

Also, I have different installations of 4.09 modded, HSFX5.01, and a clean 4.09 right now, how would I go about condensing these into my new SASModact installation?

Thanks for the positive feedback Kirby, much appreciated.
cheesehawk, though I'm not a TrackIR user, as much as I know the TrackIR support should be incorporated in the stock No CD il2fb.exe already. You just have to set trackIRUse=1 in the [rts] section of conf.ini. However I might stand corrected here, other TrackIR users should know best.

Regarding your different installations:
First of all, better not mix 4.09 and 4.10.1 installations. It's known to work under specific circumstances (e.g. the 4.10.1 switch in Ultrapack 2.01), but it's always prone to unpredictable conflicts.

Any other installation can be mixed as long as the mixed installs don't share the same "FILES" or "MODS" folder. For instance, you can use Stock 4.10.1, SAS Modact 3.x, HSFX 5 and UltraPack 3.x (as soon as it becomes available) in one single installation folder, since they either don't touch modded files (Stock version) or use distinctive folder locations.
Now that shared installations in a single folder are still somewhat new and hence kinda "expert" stuff, I'd recommend that in case of trouble you either offer a week of solution research for yourself before asking for help, or take the safety approach of separate installations.

Best regards - Mike

Good idea Mike, I'll take your suggestion, keeping my 4.09 with UP2.01 separate, and I'll attempt to combine my SAS with HSFX.  Still not sure about the TrackIR, but I'll check around.

Thanks for the prompt help, and clarifications!

1. installed SASmodact3.02 over vanilla Il2_4.101 version, on E drive of my WinXP 2nd patch. "Yes" to "all overwrite". My PC: 3GHz P4, 2GB RAM.
2. Selected Stock game: runs OK.
3. Selected 512MB RAM, SAS Modact 3: at best, get to the second  loadscreen, but instead of GUI, statement appears :"file il2Fb.exe caused an error...blabla...". After clicking on that statement, game gets out. The il2fb.exe file has the size of 4456kB, was created on 4th May 2011 at 15:25. Is it OK ?
4.Alternatively, the game goes through two loadscreens, then freezes at "Stand by".
5. Behaviour of game SAS Modact 3 is very sensitive to the RAM settings.
Any help, please ?

I installed the latest modact 302 ,upgraded from 301 and it loads up okay then stops responding at the main menu screen. The mouse cursor will not move.Eventually I removed the 2 new files that came with this and replaced with 301 files of the same type and everything appears okay again ,loads and works properly.I followed the instructions for this latest version.Do I need to disable all the mods in Jsgme pogramme first perhaps, as I did not do that.Do I need to install 302 or will 301 be okay to work with the new release of UP when it it is available?

Hi guys

If 3.01 works for you, and 3.02 doesnt, stick 3.01. Apparently there are some things left to discover about the exe on different systems. Hopefully we will soon find them with all the feedback.

About UP 3, I am not 100% sure as I am not in possesion of the whole RC2 yet, but should be by tomorrow night, I am not sure exactly what path is being taken for the RC version, but dont worry about compatibility at this stage, whichever way it comes, it will either work straigh away, or we will give  little pacth to make it work.

Also, Ill see if I can find a little time tomorrow, I will repost the set of "normal" il2fb.exe's for SAS Modact, as well as the "3.01" version of the selector (some seem to have had no issues with that, but are strggling with 3.02) for use by the guys who are having serious issues, while we sort the issues out or find out what causes them.

Uzin, that size looks correct.

On the other hand, if there are guys who are having no problems, we would also like to hear from them, just to know we are not completely screwing up here!

I have Win XP sp2, 2gb ram, AMD 64x2 Dual (6GHz, so in effect I play IL2 on 3GHz) Geforce 9600GT with 512mb ram, IL2 installed on F drive (internal). I use no special graphix card setting or any AMD application. I am having no issues at all with SAS3, stock or HSFX5.

Dinga: yes, if you did not disable all the mods in JSGME before any upgrade, your upgrade will probably be 99% botched, your jsgme will overwrite updated files, back up bad files, safe files you dont want and basically make your life a misery.

However, if all you did was the 3.01 to 3.02 update, which does not contain anything jgsme related, it wont be that, jsgme is not affected, and if you want to go back to 3.01, you need only replace the il2fb.exe. the other classfile in XTD, is just one that tells the loadscreen what version to write across the screen. It is just cosmetic.

Windows 7 64bit, AMD Phenom 2 945 3GHZ, EVGA GTX 460 1gb, 8 Gigs ram, installed on C drive. Graphics cranked up nearly as high as the card will let me.
I haven't had a single issue with my IL2 '46 4.10.1+HSFX 5.1+SAS 3.2
Ive been adding mods with SAS, MODS, and JSGME with no issues.
Anxiously awaiting the release of UP 3 to add to it.

Question CirX, right now I have a MODS folder in SAS 3.2 for HSFX 5.1
When UP 3 comes out will it have its own specific MODS folder, or will both HSFX and UP read mods out of the same folder?

I cannot answer definitively, as I am still dealing with a bugtest version of UP3, which still reads from MODS and FILES,however, I gather the Public Release version will read from a folder called #UP# , launched by this same selector (or an improved version if there is one at that time). At least , that was the plan last I heard, which was latenight yesterday .(my involvement with RC versions testing of UP3 is unfortunately limited because of my bandwidth situation, otherwise I would have been more sure), I believe public release of this RC2/3 version of UP3 is planned for sometime late this coming week, but that is all up to the gods of software, as always.

Hi Cirx,

That's what I did.  ;) :D

Looked at the new Mod Act 3 to 3.2 Update folder and files.

I selectively copyied over new files such as the class file your talking about, new icon and a new mod into the JGSME folder etc.

To a 4.10.1 Sas Mod Act 3 version

Also 4gig ram.

Works a treat  ;D :D

Thanks again Cirx and all  ;D 8)

Just installed 3.02 over 3.0 and everything seems to work fine.  I had already had a fairly heavily modded setup (the IL2 folder was about 15GB) and everything seems to have come through perfectly.  I just added Beowolff's F51 Sea Horse and on the first try (in the QMB) it worked as advertised.

Thank You CirX & HadeS ... for this upgrade ... and preparation for UP3.0.

P.S. I'm patiently waiting for UP3.0 ... I just want it right, not rushed ... best wishes for a successful UP3.0 launch.  ;D :)

Hi folks,

I'm personally sorry for the issues this 3.02 selector seems to cause for a few of us.
We're currently considering possible solutions to the reported issues and will tell you as soon as updates and/or news about this are available.
Unfortunately, and that's what all community projects struggle upon at some time, our schedules are mixed up a bit at the moment and I won't be available throughout the coming week.
Anyway, we'll try to sort it asap.

both are 4.09 mods, so, them not working is not a modact issue. That they dont work is not suprising, that they ever did on other 4.101 setups is (or more probably, what they broke then was not immediately apparent).  :D However, happy news is I know in both those cases that updated or better versions, for 4.101, are in progress/in the pipeline.

Hmm, I have all the patches, installed this exactly to the instructions, start the game on modact3 option/stock and get the issue with starting a game and the camera is in a random part of the map. I clicked my F2 and get to my plane, but it has no controls and 1st person isn't working? I tried the old mod launch option but then that just crashes at 60% like the old patch issues, except... I have them all? What could be going wrong?

update: all working now, just a bad download, this is a great tool :D

5% is a missing SFS file, so , either an incomplete install, or perhaps an accidental install into 4.10 instead of 4.101

carfather, this sounds somewhat like you'd still have problems with versions later than 3.0?
If so, which problems do you encounter with 3.03 beta?
We're trying to help you out, but we have to rely on reliable user feedback in case of troubles.
Since there was no issue reported about the 3.03 beta during the past week, it sounds like you'd be the only one facing troubles here.

Mustang, 95% crash is the result of trying to launch a modded version with non-matching mods/files folders. You either simply selected the wrong game version, or you manually renamed your folders.
Furthermore the missing disc message points to a completely messed setup where you're still running the totally unpatched exe from CD/DVD.

Ok, I spent some time trying to wrap my head around this, and now I think I understand the nature of the beast! :)

I have SAS Modact 3.02 working perfectly, as posted before, and my TrackIr problems sorted themselves somehow.  (It just worked one day, after restarting, and has worked 100% since then, go figure...)

Now my next project is HSFX 5.  I understand that it will use the Files and Mods folders, and now it will also put stuff into JGSME.  I'm assuming that when I run JGSME to turn on HSFX mods, it will still show the SAS mods being run, but won't use them in game due to the new file structure, and I guess that will be vice versa as well.

My question for the guys is, how should I go about actually installing HSFX 5 into my Modact IL-2 installation?  Will it be a straightforward turn all mods off, and install to my SAS Modact 3.02 IL-2 installation?  Then the selector option for Classic Mod Game will give me my HSFX 5.0?

Post by: SAS~Storebror on May 14, 2011, 10:04:42 AM
Thanks for the update carfather. Please let us know when there are news about your installation.

@Cheesehawk: Yes, that's basically what this separation into different subfolders is all about. In the end you should be able to have e.g. Modact 3.x, HSFX 5.x and Ultrapack 3.x together in one single IL-2 folder working together, none of them interfering with each other.
One thing you should take care of is the selector itself. When you're planning to install HSFX 5.x on top of Modact 3.x, HSFX will overwrite the il2fb.exe, so this file needs to be renamed/moved/stored in a safe place before, so you can put it back in place after installing HSFX.

Mike I just can't run the exe from a CD/DVD because I downloaded IL2 :S
I just unzip everything in a new folder (with 7zip as requierd), copy and paste into IL2 directory, lunch the il2fb.exe, select the 3.02 Modact version in the settings and then it just crashs at 95%, but when I select the stock game it is everything ok, it runs teh IL2 4.10.1 perfectly :S
I'll try to download it for third time, but in the other 2 downloads everything seems to be ok.

Hello!

I have same problem (crash by 95%, crash after loaded GUI screen after short time). I´ve istalled IL-2 4.08 from disc, then patched it (4.09, 4.10, 4.101). Everything was ok. The game was loaded ok. Then I´ve patched it on Modact 3.02 and I´ve had crash by 95%. Then I´ve installed IL-2 Selector and after normal loading I have new Modact 3.02 GUI and background screen for half second and I am back in Windows.
And in root folder IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 I have this error report:

(...)
K:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946hsfx\il2_newview\NPClient.dll
So you're a freetrack user and your installation's messed up, since it loads dll's from different IL-2 installation folders.
I aint a freetrack user, but this looks like you missed something regarding freetrack installation to your "K:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946" folder.

Also, as we have said previously, please DO NOT have il2 in your Program Files location in windows. Especialy windows Vista and later. But even in XP. Please dont have il2 in program files, IL2 does not do well in Program Files, it should not be there. Modded IL2 especially does not live well in Program Files.

Please, to everyone, this is not a recommendation. We are TELLING you, DO NOT have il2 in your Program Files folder. There is a full explanation of this in the Guide also. In the installation GUide.

milanisko: I do not know if having the game on another drive than windows, but still in a folder called "Program Files" is thus affected, but, nothing would surprise me less if it was.

it will mostly be OK in XP, it is however still not advised. if you had no problems (that you know of or have simply accepted) you are lucky.  :)

The ideal, perfomance and safety wise, is to run IL2 from an internal high speed hardrive (consumer models 7300rp is OK), and, this should NOT be the drive your operating system in installed on (or on a partition your OS in installed on).

My IL2 installs are all in a folder called "MyIL2s" on my F drive, so for example F:\MyIL2s\4.09m MODDED\il2fb.exe

it of corse not a given that moving IL2 out of program files will help any problems, or that putting it on a seperate HD will improve it, but, it wont hurt, and, putting it on your second HD, you may get a pleasant performance surprise.

I have Il-2 folder on separate high speed drive but in file folder named "Program files". I have there many instalations of Il-2 (stock,UP,HSFX,Histo) and till now was everything ok.
But my problem is solved now(I hope).
Thank you Mike for your idea. It was a conflict New wiew vs. Freetrack.
Now run Modact 3.02 fine and I can go finally sleep.
Thank´s to you all for your work.

milanisko, Thank you very  much for feedback. I hope you enjoy the mods very much! :)
I understand also now that you have that folder it is not the windows folder, so it should be cool as you say.

I am in fact getting a new 2nd hardrive tomorrow. EVen after ruthlessly cleaning my whole pc last week, I found with shock I just have 32Gigs left between all my internalls! eek! big drive coming up! :D

Hi Cirx - can we expect similar issues with UltraPack 3.0?? Or is this problem (which thankfully I dont have) isolated to ModAct installs ?

Ok, my installations work fine, but I'm having a graphical issue.  Playing on a private server for a squad vs squad campaign, 4.101 mods allowed, I'm running the SAS Modact installation with ecran wide and 6 DOF as the only mods activated, my plane trails smoke for everyone using a stock 4.101 installation.  Nothing is physically wrong with my plane, but several people (both opponents and friendlies) reported my plane was smoking heavily from the start.  Even weirder, they think it looks like I'm smoking from the wings, like a black, thick fuel leak.  No damage was taken by my plane in 2 starts, but I was smoking each time.

Smoke trails usually point to a buttons issue.
There are offline and online buttons available. In case of mismatch, onliners will see you smoking i.e. when you're using offline buttons and open the canopy.

Should make me wonder if that's related to the Modact itself in any way.

We had a Bf110 on Sunday night smoking on our server. Turns out the chap did not load "Stock".exe. Since it is a private link up without server software, there is no CRT=2 check and it is possible to join without realising that the host is running "stock" 4.01.1.

It is a matter of finding out whether or not mods are in use. If the server is running "Stock" 4.01.1 as ours on a Sunday (Mods on Thursdays) you will get smoke from some a/c if you run the SAS.exe as it will load the SAS buttons.

Perhaps you server was running 4.01.1 "Stock"?

Yes, it was, but was told that mods were allowed, which I assumed meant SAS Modact would be fine.

Yes, it was, but was told that mods were allowed, which I assumed meant SAS Modact would be fine.

No problem old chap....just to clarify your first post.......it is not a problem with the SAS activator ....it is a well documented problem of trying to fly online with a loaded "Offline" SAS buttons file on a vanilla server that causes a smoke trail on some a/c.

Just use the wonderful new selector in SAS 3.2 before your game loads and hit "Settings" before the time out, then hit "Stock Game" and save. Now you will be most welcome on all 4.10.1 servers with no smoke trail to give yourself away to the enemy.

Good luck,

Nicholaiovitch :D

I buy a second hardrive, put it in you PC, copy IL2 to it, et viola! :)

if you just have one hardrive, open it ( probably called C:) and make a new folder at it's root. call it whatever you like. Then cut and  past, or copy and paste, or drag, your IL2 instllation(s) folder into that folder.

I bought actualy today a new seagate 1TG drive, popped it into my PC, used Easus Partition thingy to partition it into 3 drives, and copied stuff over to it today. nice! (my previous 2nd drive was a measely 160GB.) I loaded all my IL2s onto one partition, and played some missions without a hitch.

Although I have to add, on my PC, IL2 is virtually crashproof, because I have a highly customised proprietary liveware application that detects any issues and sorts them out automatically.

So... just drag/ whatever into something other than C:? Doesn't seem so hard, I'll get to work on that! What do I do with my IL-2 installation already in my program files folder, get rid of it?

then I have no idea. sorry  :-[
download the no cd exe, https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,1117.0.html and see if you can get your copy to work just as stock. if that fails, time for a complete uninstall and reinstall Id think. If it works, then try installing the modact again, counting your steps with extreme care, and using only the recommnded 7zip and steps.

and switch off the intro, run il2setup if you cant do that in the config ini yourself. And try to see where in the load you are crashing, which % of load.

And, just to be sure, list exactly the names of the .SFS files you have in your game folder after having installed modact 3.02. ( a screenshot of your entire game folder will do nicely)

Is there an "Online" version of SAS Modact 3.02 buttons?

And I did something stupid.  I had my installation working fine, 4.101 stock, SAS Modact 3.02, HSFX 5.0 working fine.  Then I tried to apply the HSFX 5.01 hotfix.  I disabled all the mods in JGSME, copied the il2fb.exe to my desktop to save a copy with the new switcher, and ran the HSFX5.01 hotfix application, pointing it to the SAS Modact installation I had.  Then copied the il2fb.exe back into the game.  Loaded my mods again through JGSME, and low and behold, if I select Classic Mod Game (for my HSFX) I crash again at 95%.  If I disable all the mods, still same thing.  At least, my Stock 4.101 and SAS Modact 3.02 work fine still.  Anyone know what might cause this?  I'm thinking of reinstalling to just HSFX5.0, but figured I'd ask here first.

Just hit the "del" button, or do I have to go to the control panel and ask for windows to remove the software?

@ SAS~CirX, I had a 95% freeze + a total non-starter issue, then I found a comment at the end of one of the entries in the 5%, 60% and 70% chrash discussion mentioning a few words about the 95% freeze. Those few words gave me the answer and solution to my problems! Can you investigate a bit more this hickup and add a well formulated way to solve such problems? It has someting to do with using the right .exe to the right install, which is a but more crusual now with the fbselector.exe I think. Maybe add the solution to the beforementioned "5%..." thread!?

@cheesehawk, my suggestion is, load the CMG before you return the il2fb.exe to your install, then you paste the .exe and try to start your game with that particular .exe! If that works keep a copy of the one working safe away from your game. Then you should try to swich to the other installs, stock and 302 and test, if they still work swich to the CMG to test again if you´re OK now congrats if not I´m lost!!

CirX,

For the online buttons, do I use the SAS Buttons 8.6?  How do I install that with the Modact 3.02 file structure?  or do I use the SAS Modact/folder for HSFX 5 users?

I think I still don't have a great grasp of how the new structure works, sorry! :(

I haven't tested the HSFX in my Modact installation with its default .exe, but I do have a seperate install of HSFX 5.01 which runs perfectly from its own folder/directory.  Something changed when I installed it into the Modact, but obviously, I'm not sure what...

Ok, didn't have time yesterday to work on this, but today, I've realized that all the mods in JGSME have il2fb.exe apps in them.  Deleting like the guide says got everything working again.  Much thanks!

SAS online buttons installed to, thanks everyone for your patience!

Quick question, is there any reason I shouldn't run the online button while playing offline?

Just if you want to open your canopy on some A/C which don't have this capability in stock version but in some modded version. In that case the offline buttons come in handy, but for any other reason? I don't have an idea...

Hey
I don't know what i've messed up again but somehow i get this 95 % freeze since two days now. When i installed modact 3.02 it all worked fine, but suddenly i got this. The last mod i installed before it was CY6 higher time compression mod (all previous ones had been working) but i think it's not related to a mod, and when i removed it it still didn't work.
I've installed the 3.03 beta, hoping that it would fix it, but no :(
I think this freeze is somehow related to i am trying to play a game version i don't have, right ? But don't really know how to solve it. I have searched about it, but there's no concrete way to solve it. There are some, sure, but i don't really understand them.

And yes, my install is NOT in Program Files.

Thanks for any help

For all the guys who still realy struggle with problems starting the game, There will be a 3.04 beta selector, plus "safe" version, posted later tonight, and well as a set of traditional exe and wrapper files for desperate players that WILL work on all machines, but will in the case of online players require just a little more care to use within installs that share with other packs.

This will be later tonight.

Users, especialy TrackIR users,  who are not having any issues, will still benifit from some improvements in the 3.04 beta selector, but otherwise do not need to worry about this.

3.04b update posted, with update packages for 3.02 users or 3.00 users

Also added a new fallback selector under Emergency Help, and also a last resort option of traditional exe's for users who are truly desperate and still not getting the game to start.

I'd like to take this opportunity to express some special thanks to Blaubaer for his extraordinary support in bugtracing the 3.02 Modact version. Due to his precise reports we were able to localize some issues within a few days, which would likely have taken several weeks otherwise.

Thanks Blaubaer, you're invited to a nice cup of coffee ;)

Q; 302 is working Flawlessly for me (so far), so I´d like to know if the upgrade to 304b is working the same way as 302? Only one .exe to trigger all the others is very neat. Is the TIR benefits worth the upgrade? I´m on TIR 5 since a few months ago. (If this is explained in some readme you may kick my ass since I´m too lazy to look for a readme!) ;]

It's basically the same thing like 3.04, additionally now you can enable/disable TIR.
Some modifications were made internally, so it's worth a try if you like to, but nothing really new to you if 3.02 is working flawlessly for you.

I cannot get the il2fb.exe icon to change to the new SAS version? I've tried creating a new shortcut and i've tried thru  'change icon' in properties etc... but it just refuses to change from the old pacific fighters style ??

Any ideas?

I installed 3.02 full onto a vanilla 4.0101m then installed the 3.04 update.

The new icon is showing in the IL2 folder but I notice when attempting to 'change icon' in properties it shows the old style one in the folder - the initial window shows the new one?? If I press OK and apply nothing happens?? If I 'create a shortcut' the old one appears?

I'll try again tonight >:(

Very Strange?? Saying that, it will prob be ok when I next boot-up (hopefully - bl**dy computers)

I know its a bit premature, but will I be able to install UP3.0 over this?  Or will I need to start from scratch again, 4.101 stock, then UP (or HSFX then the other), and then SAS Modact?

Let's see what will be in the final UP3 RC.
As far as I could see during the tests, UP3 will do fine on top of Modact 3, but it will replace the launcher (aka selector), so for the full version you'd have to backup il2fb.exe first.
Apart from that, no problems from my side so far, albeit I always recommend to start with a vanilla game and install all addons on that one, starting with the biggest one (in this case UP3) and proceeding down to the smallest.

no, you absolutely must install UP3 and SAS3 together in the same place. There are a few SFS files to watch out for not to owerwrite (mostly the FBDSM ones, so if you dont have those, dont worry)

I am pondering a major shift in SAS, based on out close ties with UP, and that fact that this site was, is, and realy should be, offline driven. But More on that at another time.

I understand that, and agree completely with recommending a start with vanilla, but in my case, my entire package is so new (nothing added since my install last week) I was hoping to save a couple of steps.  Oh well, its pretty painless even if I need to re-install everything anyways.

Right Piet, didn't say you don't have to, all I say is to install the base pack first, which in this case is UP3.

Good move. Maybe he wants to use the new beta version with enhanced wrapper included?
Maybe we should discuss this elsewhere not to tease all others too much, shouldn't we? :D

Ok, I'm getting a weird error that I didn't notice before, and search funtion brings up too many threads to really look for it.  If I disable the 6DOF mods in either HSFX or SAS games, I get the 95% error.  Since I do use 6DOF normally, I didn't notice this, but disabling definitely causes a lockup.  If I run Stock Game, no problems.

I'm not a TrackIR user, so I can just speak in theory here.
When this 95% error happens, does the startup screen show the stock background image (I assume: No).
You remembered to set trackIRUse=0 in conf.ini?

When the 95% error happens, it happens with either the HSFX 5.01 or the SAS Modact 3.02 background image, depending on which game I had selected at the time.  I haven't went back into my conf.ini file to change TrackIRUse=0, as I never had to disable it before  (prior versions of the game 4.09, 4.09 UP, HSFX4 I could just leave the conf line enabled, but if I didn't have the trackIR mod loaded, it treated it as if the line was =0).  Running the stock game, with the line in conf.ini still set =1, the game loads fine.  Perhaps something did change in the new il2fb.exe and I should disable the conf.ini line, but as it didn't require it before, I just left it alone.

Ok Ive got something here thats kinda strange.
First this was a fresh install of 4.10.1, then added UP3, then added Modact 3.2 and upgraded that to 3.4. All games launch fine, no problems EXCEPT...in SASmodact games pressing the primary weapon fire key erases all other weapon loadouts. For example: 109 with MK108 gunpods. Pressing the secondary weapon fire key (joystick 2) will fire the cannons no problem, but as soon as you fire the primary weapon, MG13's (Joystick 1) all ammunition and external stores vanish. Happens with the P47 as well. Secondary fire fires the outer most 4 machine guns, pressing fire 1 erases all ammo in all 8 guns.

Well in playing with it more I have Stock game, HSFX 5.1, and UP3 all working well in a single install! Yay me and thanks to all who made it possible.

Ok but SAS Modact game is still weird. I tried the same thing and got the same result-fire main weapon erases all loadouts.
I turned limited ammo off in difficulty to see what would happen. Well it turns out that the primary fire button is also the warp drive button. With limited ammo off I was able to fire the primary weapons but when I did time increased exponentially, ie in each time setting, normal, 2x, 4x and 8x using the primary fire key sped up time, even beyond 8x.
Weird! ???

EDIT: Ok I have taken the exact same SAS 3.02 and 3.04 upgrade and applied them to a virgin 4.10.1, it worked flawlessly. Leads me to believe that its a problem with 3.04+UP3? Hell i even checked my classfiles-not a single conflict (after removing the JSGME folder).

I dont know what else to look for Cirx, a little direction would be appreciated! :D. Ill post this over at UP too.

Ok after playing around further i am able to duplicate it.
Its actually really easy, any time UP 3 is enabled in JSGME, SAS 3.04 planes will erase their loadouts when the primary fire button is pushed.

Ok I'm completely lost with this Modact thing and have been for some time. This is only for 4.101? There is none for UP3.0? These are just questions I have. However, I did install it once and it seemed to actually work although it all looks foreign to me. Will this Modact install all planes previously used from the UP beta Package that came out awhile back or must we download them separately, or could we copy and paste our old 2.01 MODS folder (which I saved) and place it into IL-2 main folder? Basically I'm asking if certain folders are backwards compatible from 2.01 to 3.0. One last thing. I haven't really ran Modact but I have been installing my mods manually without it. Is that ok with this new UP to play off-line SAS campaigns? I think that's all my current questions. Thanks for working hard SAS on this new UP. it is awesome!.

I tried to run SAS 3.04b through the IL2 Executable Selector but CTD'ed. UP3 was activated in JSGME - if deactivated there wouldn't have been an Executable Selector, but only the stock il2fb.exe available. Could someone please explain how to set it up?

I'm afraid currently that's not possible since Stock IL-2, UP3 and SAS Modact 3 use different files.sfs archives, so there would have to be an SAS Modact JSGME option for that task.
For the time being, I'd strongly recommend to run UP3 from a separated installation. We're currently considering how to establish the best cooperation between SAS Modact and UP3 in a single installation folder.

what mike said is right. But for those who already have them both in together and are having that problem, you can do this: Save the selctor to somewhere, then disable all the UP3 options in jsgme. Then open the jsgme folder, and enter each folder containing a UP3 option. open them and fins all the il2fb.exe files inside them. Save these to a safe place elsewhere, and then delete them from your jsgme folder.

Then replace the selector to your installation.

you can now enable and disable UP3 in jsgme, without it replacing your selector.

but remember , you HAVE TO disable UP3 in jsgme before launching SAS or any other type from your selector. This is the only catch for the moment. And you HAVE to re-enable UP3 in jsgme before launching UP3 with theselector.

Hello Oscarito

You may as well create a new folder on your C drive (or whatever HD you have ) and name it SIMULATOR for example.
Than you would drop your game inside. So that it should be C\SIMULATOR\ U.P.RC3  or C\SIMULATOR\SAS Modact 3.04b if you decide to install both.Of course you mayname your game whatever name you want.

This is my 3rd attempt and I don't freakin get it. I had a UP/SAS hybrid install that was working like a damn dream. All I did was took 4.101m and UP3.0'd it and then added old "Mods" folder, UP Beta package, buttons, Diffm, a ton of maps I had from all over, and then I just took what I wanted like the shippack2 etc. But that is what's pissing me off. How can one game make me so angry? It shouldn't be this damn difficult! And I did not run the selector with SAS enabled. I ran it with UP3.0 and guess what? I flew every freakin campaign known to man that I have in my arsenal and was still able to join UP3.0 test servers. But It seems that in theory, that shouldn't have worked. If I wasn't broke, I'd kick my comp out the window and run down the street drunk and naked! LOL GRRRRRRRRRRR ok medicine time.    >:(

no, in theory it is possible.

See, how modding works, is that a modded exe(or dll to be specific) forces the game to load stuff in a certain folder OVER the stuff it loads from the stock game.

so, when you launch a modded exe, it will look for such a folder, by a specific name. In the case of "classic modded game" it will look for a MODS folder. For and SAS game it will look for a folder call #SAS, if you select a UP3 game, it will look for a folder called #UP#.

So, you can take your whole #SAS folder for example, and name it MODS. And if you select "Classic mod game" on the selector, it will read the "MODS" file, which now contains SAS mod-act 3 stuff, and so, you will launch mod-act 3 in practice.

Same with UP. If you put your UP files in "MODS", and launch the "Ultra Pack 3" option in the selector, your game will not read anything form any folder called "MODS", only from a folder called #UP#. If your UP stuff is in your MODS folder, it will thus not be read.

To make it be read, you must select "Classic Modded Game", then the game will read content from their MODS folder.

it may seem a bit confusing, but once one has your head around it, it is really straight forward.

My advice is though, that if one is unsure, best not to mix your installs, and to only install things one at a time, and very carefully, so you can remove it easily if it does not work.

But do yourself a favor, if you are serious about making your life in modded IL2 easier. some years ago I was just like you. I did not know anything and even simple things confused me and I got things wrong and messed up many installs, and did not know enough to get out of it.

And back then, at AAA, there was zero information available, and no help forthcoming.
So I took a weekend once, and started just searching and reading, and writing things out as I understood them, until I got a solid basic understanding of more or less how modded file structures work.

Later, when I started this forum, I put all that into tutorials, which are available here. IF one takes some time and patience, and a willingness to learn, you can sit down and go through them carefully, and at the end of it you will understand a whole lot more about the game, and be much more able to help yourself. But I understand, one does not want to do that, one just wants stuff to work.

However, if you do not know enough, then don't make hybrid or customized installs. Take what and install gives and leave it at that. If you have a working install that is highly customized like your one you mentioned, then for Christ sake don't go install something else over that. Make a copy and work on THAT. Make multiple installs so you can experiment.

I know my way around mod BACWARDS. And I can tell you , I NEVER EVER EVER install anything straight into my personal "Ultimate" game install. I have many small installs with simple activators to TEST stuff on. And if I cannot get them to work there, I don't go ahead and install them into my personal game anyway and hope for the best!

If I have a proper modded install of HSFX, then I will have another clean install of HSFX for backup, and yet another clean install of it, for checking out updates and new mods on first.

Same goes for everything else. I have a UP3 customized, I also have a UP3 clean tester, a UP3 backup, and I back up my #UP# folder weekly, so even if I really fuck up, I only step back at most 7 days, to a fully working copy.

I understand that int he flight Sim world, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is rampant. I too am a sufferer. You WANT all the mods in ONE folder and no other dirty little installs floating around. It must all be neat and tidy and in one place. And you must install all mods and packs and updates into that, and if that does not work, you have to start from scratch every time.

In my opinion, that method is at best completely irresponsible, and at worst, truly insane.

So, perhaps a request to everybody: Don't come tell us that we ruined your working install that you worked years on and now it is lost forever. If you run mods that way, without backups, then all we can really say is "Pity the fool!" :D

And as I said to Raptor when we talked about this a while ago: The argument about not having space on your harddrive for multiple installs is crap. I bought a 1.5TB Seagate barracuda 3 weeks ago, and it cost a lot less than I paid for my Mouse. If you cannot obtain more drive space in this day and age, then I think a messed up IL2 may be the least of your problems in life. ;D

So, make copies, make copies , make  copies.

have copies on backup drives, have copies on your harddrive, have copies of 4.07, of 4.08, of 4.09 and of 4.10 and of 4.101. Have multiple copies of 409 and 4101. Have copies of all your installs.

Have copies you can fuck up and learn from. Have copies to test with. Have copies to play with. Have copies to mod with. Have copies of every working install you have.

NEVER install more than 1 thing at a time before testing. NEVER install anything straight into your MAIN KING PERSONAL CUSTOM SUPER INSTALL (the one you play for fun)

And then, make backups. Make backups of everything, all the time.

With the new method of mod-act we made, it is possible to have a UP3, SAS3 and HSFX5 install all in one super install. But it requires just a little bit of management from the user side. If a user does not know or understand the game structure enough to manage that, then he must please not attempt it. Rather then just have separates.

I have many installs, but I have my one big super install. My personal game I play for fun. And even with all my knowledge and troubleshooting skills, I never ever put an untried and untested mod straight into it. I also never put a mod into it that I don't absolutely want and need. For novelty planes and mods, I try them out on another install, to see if they are truly worth it. I have to say, in my super install, I have never had more than a handful of new planes in there at any one time. Having every mod ever made in one install might satisfy one's OCD, but it is also a surefire ticket to disaster.

My advice about modding is: Be sure, be slow, be methodical, be careful, be conservative, and most of all, the golder slogan of everything that is gold in the world of hacking:

try before you buy

Although everybody does, you should in fact never come to a forum like this and say "I put this into my only copy and it messed it up and I cannot get it out and things working again.
It is ones own responsibility to educate yourself, to test, to have backups and copies, and to, when you do install something into your BIG INSTALL, to carefully note every step you take so you can step back properly if needed.

So, in closing: Take a deep breath, walk away from the game for a few hours/days/weeks (like I do when I get so frustrated), then come back and set yourself up to be able to try things out properly and play with them and learn from them, without having to risk your high-value installs every time you want to do something new.

Best of luck with it! And believe me, the path I describe is worth the effort. The game you will end up with will kick the ass of any other flightsim any day of the week and twice on Sundays.  I have had big "ACES" from the big MS and other flightssim "clubs" here, come sit behind my PC to try out this "little outdated Russian simulator", and leave 8 hours later, pale faced and silent.

HAHA, i wasn't even going to quote all of that Cirx but yes once again you have spoken very wise words. I feel like a padawan but close enough to become an apprentice jedi. LOL. I know a lil bit so yeah like you, I got damn installs all over the place and I do a fair bit of testing. This one today just took a toll on me. Maybe just a bad day, I dunno. I usually can F somethin up and come back clean and better but this time I lost information which I usually make notes of. But I haven't come close enough to all this modding yet where I feel at home. Maybe another year. I'm still makin small missions and playing around with things. So I'm calm now and guess what? I installed modact. LOL. I finally broke down and decided to apply it. It's actually quite genius. I already have some ideas I wanna test. Well thanks for calming me. My wife swears that this game is evil because it shouldn't do what it does to people. LOL. Ok time for sleep and thanks again sir for your wealth of knowledge.  ;)

For some reason I'm not able to open the sas_sound 01 & 02, or any of those files. It's asking me what program to use to open it. Are these blocked from general view? I have 64 bit win7 enterprise edition so maybe that's it. I hate the win7 gui. straight trash even if you go into classic mode.

Another question for ya sir. For UP and SAS game, we must use the offline 4.101 buttons right? Ok I guess my question is that you said that you can play multiple games right so how would I do that if you can only have one button in the gui\game at one time? But the most confusing of all is if we would use the offline or online 4.101 buttons since that is basically the new engine for UP3.0. Damn I need someone with a freakin phone. LOL

I'm using the 4.101 buttons btw and all is good but damn, why is there a "enable UP3.0" mod in JSGME if you can enable it directly from the selector? Just tell me the 4.09 buttons are history so i can get that mental nightmare outta my head. Thanks much bro. Drinks on me.

I also said that if you are not abslutely comfortable and knowlegeable enough to manage a multiple pack environment in a single install, to please not do it.

EVERYTHING else you asked, are realy step1 basic groundlevel grade one stuff, on which there is a huge amount of information and answers in the relevant download threads, the tutorial sections, the guides, and the tech help section.

We spend days and days of our lives writing these things. Please read them.

Please understand, I know that we have a reputation on this forum for being "snappy" at nevcomers. But the guys who say that must please understand this concept:

The SAS forum is NOT a public service. It was NOT started to help IL2 players mod their games. It is NOT an il2 modding help forum.
It is, and always was, a forum where Modders who mod their games, can, if they want, share those mods with everyone else, and secondly, where such mods would not be surpressed and restricted as result of pressure by the online communities.

That any modder here takes any time to write any sort of readme, much less full blown tutorials and guides, is a gesture of friendlyness, not a requirement, or a right that users can claim. That modders provide any support for the mods at all is also something everyone should be thankfull for, and do their absolute best not to abuse, by taking the time to educate themselves and try to learn the answers to basic questions by themselves. And to be honest, anyone who has not read at least the whole tutorials sections, tech help sections, support threads ,and for that matter the rest of the forum, from top to bottom, at least twice, has not fulfilled their part of the deal yet.

No one ever said that modding your game is going to be easy and straightforward. Modders spend weeks and months of their lives , making cool things for this game, yet many users do not want to spend more than 30 seconds trying to help themselves. And when we say anything about that, then we get accused of being "snappy".

I know of more than one case where a great modder has stopped sharing his stuff because he got completely demoralised by continious repeated questions and problems and help requests, 99% of which were answerable easily if a user read one or two tutorials, and spent 5 minutes troubleshooting it themselves.

So we are not at all trying to be wiseasses or trying to be snappy or nasty when we stop a new user in his tracks and tell him: "go try to help yourself first mate". We are in a real sense, protecting our forum.

As for questions about UP3 enabling, same thing. And if none of the UP3 support threads, and nothing on the UP3 board answers that for you, then sit tight for the readme that will surely come with the final release. But I know the answer is in there somewhere, cause I remember reading it.

Please dont take all this personaly. Your questions are not any worse than what we get from some others, a lot of whom have been using mods for years (the "JD Paradox" we call it: "I ALWAYS install ALL mods CORRECTLY, yet, NO mod EVER works"  :D ) . Nor am I in any way angry or annoyed. I am just giving you some good advice. Educate yourself. You will need it and it will stand you in good stead. If you need help with this stuff above already, then, dont use mods, cause from here on out, it only gets more complicated and difficult if you cannot do your own basic research.

But I can't fly any type of I-16 now... I have CTD immediately after mission loads...
When I try to switch back to the stock game -- I have the same problem -- no I-16's are working...
I need to fix it somehow ASAP since I'm workin' over the all I-16 cockpits for this sim:

Hi Mangas!

Sorry, I dont know how to help. If it is in your stock game also, then it is something outside the Modact. There is nothing in the modact that could cause that by itself, only if there is an external problem, or a conflicting mod installed.

The easiest surefire way would be to copy a spare 4.101 vanilla into your PC and test that stock, then with the modact. Let me know if this works out or if you solve it. If not, then I will help you investigate and test till we do.

No additional mods are installed: I've installed 4.101 apart from my 4.09m+HSFX just now to see if my new I-16 cockpits will be 4.101 compatible... They are, but only 8-years old types 18 & 24...
Here's what happens when I try to load any other type in it:

Apparently, I'm strangely missing cockpits of planes that come with stock 4.09b somehow:

https://www.sas1946.rocks/images/imageshit/img819/5870/saserror3.jpg

but it's really weird, 'cause I swear I installed 4.09b before patching 4.10/4.101...
Here's how my fresh 4.101+SASMAct 3.04b looks like now (note the 4.09b readme pdf manual that comes with the patch):

DO *NOT* use at any point the obsolete 409b1 patch.

To avoid a complete reinstall, is there any way to roll back from 4.09b to 4.08 to prepare it to be patched with proper 4.09m? Or it's possible just to copy full proper 4.09m over first beta 4.09 & the obsolete files will be overwritten automatically & new files added? Would I have any problems after it? I don't need any...  ;D

No need to. You can safely install 4.09m OVER 4.09b1m. It will replace it completely.

So, if now I have a folder with clean 4.101 + SASModAct 3.04b where everything works fine except for the missing planes that came with 4.09m (full), what's my best option? Install 4.09m (full) in that folder (to get the missin' planes), then install again 4.10 + 4.101 and then SASModAct all over this again?
Or just full proper 4.09m will be enough? It will add missin' sfx's and that's it? (http://yoursmileys.ru/msmile/think/m2009.gif) (http://yoursmileys.ru/m-think.php?page=1)

Oh I see...

you have patched your game 4.08m to 4.09b1m to 4.10 to 4.101

when you should have gone 4.08 to 4.09m to 4.10 to 4.101

Now you want to know what is the easiest way to rectify the fact that you installed the wrong 4.09 patch? is this correct?

If so, then you should extract the 4.09m patch to a safe place on your PC, then copy and paste all the contents over to your game, EXCEPT the Files.SFS

Hi el bradipo. I cannot open your second image, so let me just answer in general.

Unfortunately, I cannot provide support for any installation based on a 4.09 with a previous system.
We do recommend a clean , WORKING , install of 4.101. If you previously had 4.09 with UP2 or anything else, and you updated that to 4.101 (thus probably making UP2 unuseable without some fancy switching option, which most guys seem to be incapable of managing properly for any long period), then any errors you may have introduced into your upgrade will be carried over as is to the modact.

the no planes error is not a bug of the modact, it is a bug of a botched upgrade or installation. And we realy cannot help with it.

For guys on previous systems that were dedicated to 409, we can only once again say: put that aside, make a fresh start.

We support this modact in installations with HSFX5 and UP3 and DBW, on working 4.101 installs.

We do not support it in 409 switched installs with older modpacks or anything from the 409 era, suimple because, if we did, we would be spending all our time doing tech help, and no time modding.

Did exactly that, and all works flawlessly now! No reinstall needed! SAS~CirX, thank you so very much! (http://nunahren.ru/images/stories/sm/smile107.gif)

P.S.: I have a few questions: the SASModact has an option "Classic mod game"... Does that mean that I have to create a new "MODS" folder to place my favourite 4.09m/HSFX4 mods there to see them in 4.101+SASModact? And what's the difference between "#SAS" & "MODS" folders then?
And what's the best way to add new planes now? Using jgsme method or simply using "#SAS" folder like we used MODS?
(I've just added I-16Type29 & P-39N-1M & P-39Q-30 and they work fine)
And is there any chance to have just one "universal" 4.101+SASModact install that I can switch immediately to 4.09m to see if my new cockpits & parachute mod I'm workin' on are compatible?  ::)

to put it simply: With "SAS Modact", the game will ignore your MODS and FILES folders (if you have any). It will ONLY read from the #SAS folder. The #SAS folder is exactly the same sort of thing as the old "MODS" folder.
