Griffon Spitfires

SAS Cutout, from HSFX/UP pack, the 2 Mk12 and 2 Mk14 Spitfires from these packs, for manual instal SAS ModAct users
I have had much call from SAS ModAct users for a download of these, and Zorin kindly gave his blessing for this cutout. I am glad because, this is certainly for me, the most agressive looking model of the beautifull Spitfire. Especially the MkXIVe with clipped wings. Its like, a Spitfire on steroids....a bull-dyke Spitfire! :P Its like one of those girls on the cover of Female-Fitness magazine. Muscle worship time!!!
Changes: Removal of duplicate Plane and Cockpit Folders
Note: I could not find the credits in any old downloads I had of previous versions, nor more credits in any readme afterwards. What I could get is below, my sincere appologies if I left anyone out. Please let me know.

Ah yes, Griffon Spitfires. I've got a UP install already, but I'm sure the manual installers will appreciate them.
Can I just give a couple of warnings to those eager to fly these beasts - they bite! Firstly, the prop goes the other way, so you'll need a bootfull of left trim for takeoff, even with a locked tailwheel. And even then, the torque can send you hurtling sideways if you open the throttle too quick. You can probably safely take off with about 90% power anyway...
Once you get the beast airborne, don't expect it to turn like a Spit Mk II either, at least until you get used to it. Flying these beasts demonstrates why they put so much effort into contra-rotating props...

Very Sexy

Brilliant! Many thanks for the (latest) gift! 8)

Great, thank you ! I was really, really looking for them ! 8)

Thanks a lot to those involved!
Looking forward to flying these amazing Spits.

Thanks CirX!!

Superb! Good thing they are in the same package.
Only one thing... the spinners look too small to me... Wrong plans used?
Also, there should be some cowling panel and tail differences between XII and XIV...
spit XII early with VIII type vertical rudder
(http://www.spitfireperformance.com/41sqdn-spit12.jpg)
notice that the nose is somewhat shorter than XIV and has a straight panel between nose and fuselage
Mk XIV late with bubble canopy

Yes, I am afraid warhawk is right
-
I also have checked on my source and the MK XII have the broad chord rudder of the MK VIII.
-
Is there a possibilty of getting a 21lbs boost version of the MkXIV?
There are so many boosted versions of the Bf109 and Fw190, and even though there is not a big difference in maximum speed, the extra 10-15mph at low level would be very useful.

Question? The mod loads and work great in QMB but in FMB Dogfight missions it locks the game up when any of the Spitfires are selected. I'm running UP2.01 if thats any help, plus using Zuti DSMod v 1.12 UP also.
-
If you use UP you don't need this mod

Watch your tone here mate. Sarcastic comments and arrogant remarks like that wont get you far.

This packs is basically cut as is from UP2.01, 5 props and all, and adapted for SAS modact users, including IIRC some crucial changes form the way they are used isn HSFX/UP mainflightmodel Java. So if you have UP2.01, you already have this mod for UP. If your UP install has a problem, then there is a problem in your mods or files folder with it. OberstD was 100% correct.
The FMB conflict is probably from either UP or MDS, or a more deeper problem in the classes which conflict. The first thread above clearly states, with bold letters:
...from HSFX/UP pack, the 2 Mk12 and 2 Mk14 Spitfires from these packs, for manual instal SAS ModAct users
So please do not install this into a UP or HSFX install, and dont be surprised at incompatibilities if you do.
-
Also yes to warhawk, the curve on the front of the engine is too much, therefore meaning the spinner hub is smaller than it should be ;)
Anyway hopefully we will have new flight models for these soon :)

this is my favorite Airplane and i love it to fly this thing :-*
it is neraly perfect 8)

Good News, this worked in 4.10 for me!

These Griffon engined are very beautiful. All Spitfires look great, but these ones look specially cool :) They are really hard to handle during take off and landing. But I wonder how much different should the top speed be from previous versions? Like from the Mk IX, for example. Aren't these Griffon engined ones supposed to go substantially faster?
I can find several specs in the Web about the same Mk, differing slightly from each other, usually not referring if it is IAS, or TAS.
I found values such like 448 mph (720 km/h), level flight, for the Mk XIV, for example, and usually they point around these numbers, more or less. I can only reach these speeds when diving.
What is the speed indicated in the HUD of this simulator, IAS or TAS?
Anyway, this addon is very good. Thank you for your excellent work! I'm hooked to these beasts now :)
Are there any plans for some counter rotating propeller ones? That would be great!
Best greetings :)

Works in 4.101.

Works in 4.101.
this post literally made me airfist and go, "Yeah!"
-
For the Spitfire Mk.XIV with Griffon 65 at 18lbs boost the generally accepted topspeeds are:
580km/h at sealevel
720km/h at ~8000m
Should put it on par with the Bf109K-4 in terms of speed and climb.

Hi,
Is possible to have Spitfire MK XIV E?
There is MK XIV C and LF XIV E.
I don't like to fly with shorter wings that's why i choose MK XIV but 2x20mm and 4x7,69 mm seems for me worst gun mix that 2x20mm and 2x0.5 inches.
-
Thanks a lot!!! We would have been missing something without these one!!!
-
They work with SAS ModAct5.1 (412) 8)
-
These are great! Is there a template for these?

Mk.XIV: http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads3&file=details&id=199

I must have overlooked these! thanks a million! :)

LOL.... :-\ ...working on a late/postwar baremetal mk-XIVc skin
two things...
first: those griffon engine bulges are tricky to paint! but I figured it out! awesome! ;D
second: on the fifth test skin, I accidentally merged and saved the template as a .bmp without first saving the working .psd... SO... I get to start over now! .. not so awesome! :)

Unfortunately retractable tail wheels of Spitfire Mk.XII/XIV don't work properly in 4.12.

Unfortunately retractable tail wheels of Spitfire Mk.XII/XIV don't work properly in 4.12.
Works perfectly in my SAS modact v5.3, 4.12.2 game.
-
Finally I found that Spitfire Mk.XII/XIV work perfectly if the mod below is installed.
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,18838.msg202495.html#msg202495
Or simply extract classfile 00B509F2DD168B52 from the mod mentioned above and put in any folder You wish.

FYI: These birds are now kicking butt in the skies of 4.13! 8)

Do the Spitfire Mk XII Early and Late share he same 3D model?
I thought that at one time the "Early" was modelled with a fixed tailwheel and the "Late" with the retractable, but I could be confused.
It's perfectly fine if the 3D model is supposed to be the same, I just want to make sure that there is no conflict in my install.

Successfully installed and running in Modact 6.20, IL-2 v4.13.2 .
-
All working for me in v4.13.4 with modact 6.4
Does anyone know where I can get hold of the Spitfire FR XIVe (the teardrop/bubble canopy version)?
I used to have it but have since lost it...
