DETAILED PROGRESS AND ORIGINAL POST BELOW:
============================================
MMM-kay...
So I lied... I decided to give updating UQMG Classic one more and probably close to the last update. Working with the CUP team has inspired me to ignore my family some more (I told my wife I was not good at this parenting crap! :D ), and dust off my old application.
Problem is that it takes a while. The emphasis is on new objects, specifically aircraft and some of the new ground objects. Possibly some new features but. I am working on bringing it to SAS 5.30 standard first, then I'll start adding the DOF, WAW and JTW modules. Cant promise new maps yet, that is a ton of work... also to speed up the process, the database points won't be accurate, but who cares as long as you can fly the new aircraft, right?
Like I said, it takes time, but the following are now incorporated... slowly but surely.
(Below is work in progress as we speak.)

I decided to upload the work in progress (only as they reach usable, stable stages) with an open BETA. I figure you can enjoy some of the newer features without having to take a course in thermodynamics. I put the details in the original post above. The beta uses JSGME for ease of use.

Hey UD,
I Installed UQMG on a Win8.1 64bit system, but I didn't let the installer replace newer system .dlls with old ones. I got multiple error messages when I tried to run the program for the first time, and it couldn't start. Am I out of luck?

Hey UD...
I could not install your uqmg from my temp file on my C drive...just one error after another & could not uninstall either...
then I gave it over to my grandson...me 75 he 19... and he took my DL and ran the .exe in the temp file then dragged the
UberQuickPF folder out to that C:\temp & it now resides at C:\UberQuickPF & it works fine. I'm the one that doesn't work very well...ha ha
Thanks-a-lot UD...now I have (God knows how long of a learning curve) to look forward to. ha ha..really, Thank you for this awesome SP maker.
I assume that it was having trouble installing/Uninstalling in the Program Files X86.
I have Win7 64bit & my base is the IL2 1946 PC DVD from the last century I believe...

Cloyd,
I am totally unfamiliar with Win 8.x. There should be a way to run in compatibility mode I believe. UQMG was written with Visual Studio 6.0, which is very old. The way that it (VS 6.0) worked is that the original installation would register the controls in the registry as proof that they could be used in the system. I am not sure how Win 8.x handles that.
I installed it and have it running on Windows 7 Home Premium v.6.1, build 7601, SP1. Never had any issues with it. Is there a way to run the installation itself in something like Win XP compatibility?
Did you ever get to the point that UQMG asked you to run the fb100.exe file? I find that most of the time hurrying through the process is the biggest cause of problems.
Let's see what we can do about it. Perhaps someone here runs it in Win 8.

PapaG39,
Hey, great. Thanks for trying it. You did install that upgrade from the website right? That gets you to about "2009" standard with some mods. When you get good with that you can try the BETA. BTW, there should not be problems with the x86 directory... that is weird. But I tell you, installing games and mod tools in the C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files (x86) is highly unadvisable. Windows has made the whole requirement for Admin rights so frigging obnoxious to the OWNER of the computer that it is just better to install both IL-2 and mod tools elsewhere. In those directories, you cannot save text files unless you started notepad in Admin mode and then save it... running batch files is obnoxious... ok, let me get down from my soapbox... in summary, that is why I have my games installed in a different drive and directory, for UQMG, it is M:\Program Files (x86)\UberQuickPF.
BTW, thank you again, and I recommend going through the tutorial... you will be happy with the results.

Yes UD...I used your DL site & first thing I saw was big bright yellow words that said; "Install this first" I took that as a subtle hint
and now I am in the process of going through your fantastic tutorial.
I just let the exe do its thing on the first install and it just wouldn't install...it just quit.
anyway..that is what grandguys are for..To keep grandpas from going crazy..ha ha
I'm looking forward to sorting it all out...I more or less use the KISS (keep it simple stupid) principle so I should do O.K.after the learning curve...

I re-installed outside of the "Program Files (x86)" folder and everything worked normally. Thanks again UD.

Hi UD I didnt quite understand the jsgme thingy - the 0018 update didnt appear to update thru jsgme - so i've just added that and 0018 1.1 as overwrites - is this ok? Seems to work fine btw. Win7 BTW

hmm... ok. I get it. when you overwrite the contents with the new zip file, it overwrites the JSGME.ini files in the root directory and in the the jsgmemods directory and that is affecting what shows. Best thing to do is to uninstall the 1.0 (#mod18_light000) via JSGME and then install 1.1 (#mod18_light001) via JSGME.
Let me figure out a better way to do this... I'd rather have unique versions because at times some files may be removed altogether.
UD/dzz
[EDIT]
Actually I tried the same thing. If you did not uninstall 1.0 (#mod18_light000) and you just installed beta 1.1 and you should have had #mod18_light001 in the Available Mods column, and #mod18_light000 in the Activated mods, provided you installed it...
Do you have UQMG installed in the default C:\Programs Files(x86) directory? I highly discourage doing that because Win 7 is a pain when it comes to changing files in those directories, even if you are the Admin... thanks Windows!
Of course, if you never installed the first beta (1.0) and installed only 1.1, that is OK, because you don't need the old one.
-
Ah thats where i've gone wrong - I created a folder under Program Files but its installed into Program Files (x86) - I'll uninstall and start again UD. Cheers
UPDATE Hi Uber I installed into Program Files\UberquickPF but when I activate the 0018 1.1 update thru JSGME the UQMB UI still states the version is 0017? Am I doing something wrong?

Ah yeah... I thought that could cause some problems... most people associate JSGME with IL-2, but it is an excellent mod installing tool for any game... it makes installing upgrades in UQMG much easier, and it makes testing new features much more manageable.

HEY!!! Uber Demon,
I hope I know you were just joking about the "parenting crap", But I want to tell you from a guy who has been there and done that and have grandkids that are much to old for me to admit. Anyway make a long story short, This stuff will be here for some time to come. I don't know how much time you spend with your kids or this video game,or how old you are. But spend more time, and then more time after that, with your children.... I worked too hard and missed the best time of my kids and my life trying to make the almighty "buck". And what did it get me!!!!! well the kids hardly know me. My grandchildren I am having a hard time relating too, and the wife wishes I would go back to work after being retired for 10 years. She can't stand me being at home because she never knew me to be at home...Just a thought for all of you working too hard at this game and life. But I really do appreciate everything all of you MODDERS do for me and the rest of us..I have never had as much fun as I am now with the Flight Sim.
Cheers.

Below are a few pics of a UQMG Upgrade 18 Beta 1.2 mission. Note the use of the Ground Object Editor(GOE) and its effects on the ground. Also note the use of a Radio Beacon (Radio Roma). Since I did not introduce a new UQMG engine I adapted them to the existing GOE.
To use the Radios, Beacons, you need to do the following:
* Download the files from https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,12351.0.html and place them in [your il-2 folder]\samples\Music\Radio
* In IL-2 controls, assign key to previous & next beacon, and enable music, then enable realistic navigation
That way you get to listen to the Radio Music/content while flying.

UD...your mind must travel at the speed of light to come up with all of these ideas and be able to come up with a working generator such as this..
I'm only into the "Save09" in your tutorial and it is just a blur to me...ha ha...
I only do offline SP stuff, so I really need to keep it simple for my little brain to handle..
Is the new beta version more simplified to operate?
Are you able to pick a specific area in a specific map for the generator to home in on for the creation process?
i.e. like a specific valley in the Slovakia map for instance & make a ground objects shoot-em-up & get bounced by a couple of enemy guys scenario?
I do know that I am going to have to go through the tutorial again once I get through it for the first time..ha ha...I'm slow, but steadily moving forward...

PapaG39,
When you install the Beta, you would not change the way UQMG behaves, it only updates the objects you have so it is very much compatible with the version you have. Since it uses JSGME to install the Beta over the current UQMG version you have, it is easy to uninstall if you do not like it, although I see no reason why you would want to remove the objects from IL-2 1946 4.12 running with SAS ModAct.
As far as Slovakia, I have not included that map yet. The process of adding maps is somewhat lengthy, because UQMG is a mission generator, and not a builder like QMB, there are some more dynamic things that happen in UQMG compared to the in-game QMB.
The answer to your question is it depends... some maps have templates which take place in a certain area of the map, what changes is where you start the flights, that adds a lot of difference from mission to mission. Because UQMG has the cloning algorithm, you can have enormously complex missions using only 2-3 flight groups going in the 10's, 100's of planes. So some maps, the first two flight groups of each team are in one area, while the last two are in a completely different area...
But it is no FMB, so you can't choose a specific area... sorry...
My next generation UQMG is going to address this problem, but I am not working on that right now because I want to give UQMG users the ability to use the new objects in 4.12 and CUP... next step is DOF.

In my UQMG under the "Help" tab & version information it says:
* UQMG Engine Version 5.0.44
* Major Initialzation (INI) Template Version fb100
* Upgrade Version: upgrade0018
I just wanted to check to make sure I have done everything correctly and am
properly up-to-date & didn't leave anything out.... ;D

Papa39G,
You got it. You have Beta 1.2, correct? I may change the display on that Help option so it shows the beta version.
Enjoy.
-
Howdy UD..
I have been running through your fantastic, most complete tutorial I have ever had the pleasure to learning with and now I want to use it on my
newly installed il2 1946 patched to 4.12.2 for my break-in learning, but I can't find anyway to put the file path in the UQMG so it will setup from that install...
Right now it is set up to run on my CUP installed version.
Oh, Will I need to install the SAS MOd Act 5.30 first?
I know it is something simple, but I don't see anywhere to make the change over to my clean setup..
-
Hi Papa, If you want to change file paths just click on 'tools' at the top of UQMG and then 'Change/Select FB/PF location' and browse to your 4.12.2 location
Mick
As far as I know Modacts not a prerequisite to run UQMG

Ahhh dang me...I looked there first but missed it...

With that said, I am not that young (at all), and my family is my life... but in truth this type of conversation should really be reserved for the chat area and the lounge. But it is all good, I deviate from point, at times (most times). 8)
RealDarko,
Hey thanks, as always.
PapaG39,
Glad you found the solution. You can point UQMG to whatever installation instance of IL-2 you want. Have you tried the new mission I included in the latest beta? The Reggiane 2002 is a really nice little plane. Although the firepower is not that great it seems to carry a lot of ammo.
Everyone else, I am travelling on business, so not a whole lot of updates, but just wanted to let you know I don't plan to let this fade away, like most of my efforts... :P

Hi UD..
I have tried to play the Reggine 2002 & the Swordfish torpedo mission but they won't load.
other missions will load and are playable.
I get a still screen with a picture showing the front view of what looks like the 2002 engine without the cowling.
either my beta didn't install correctly or I'm not going at the load scenario correctly...
I'll do some research on downloading and installing the beta...
This usually takes me a few tries to get something right..
-
ÜD, I will like to help you in adding maps, If you tell me how to prepare maps to be added to ÜDQMG I will work on some of them. Just tell me.

Papa... sounds like a problem with your IL-2 4.12 installation vs. UQMG... You mentioned having a 4.12 installation, correct? You should install IL-2 1946, followed by the SAS super patch that includes everything up to 4.12, then MODACT 5.30, then enable AI planes mod via JSGME (the one installed in the IL-2 directory).
As far as UQMG, you should have it correct, that is, make sure that you installed it completely, which you have, then install the patch from the site, which you had, then install the latest beta... which is as easy as unzipping the files in the UQMG directory, then running the JSGME (this time, the one in the same directory as UQMG) install the beta. That should be it.

ÜD, I will like to help you in adding maps, If you tell me how to prepare maps to be added to ÜDQMG I will work on some of them. Just tell me.
Man I'd love to take you upon the offer, but I'd have to write a tutorial on that, and it is somewhat long process, even using my tailored excel spreadsheets... plus, I'd have to do one myself because it's been years... this is what I am thinking... writing a new map while I write a tutorial may be a feasible way to do this... Be patient though, because I need to go back home and work on that after I get some other things done in UQMG.
How about that plan for now?

UD..
My game is the CD 1946/SAS Super Patch to 4.12.2/ModAct 5.30 & it flys great. I have been playing your demo 1 & 2 on it with no problems.
also have played a few of the UQMG Files/Mission Data files pf_upgrd0005 etc
and they all work very well.
it is just the _beta_upgrd0018 that won't play.
I did a re-0download of the UQMG beta 0018 and reinstalled it, but it still won't play..
The UQMG Mission Generator works very well though
I do the create mission now just like the others, but no go...
-
Papa,
In your UQMG install directory, do you have the following files included?
* upgrade0011_README.txt (this is the original install readme)
* upgrade0017_README.txt (this is the upgrade you should have applied)
* upgrade0018_README.txt (beta, if you installed it - after you unzip it, you did run JSGME.exe in the UQMG directory and installed it via the JSGME interface, correct?)
Which of these files you have installed?
Also, have you enabled MODACT's 530 AI MOD? (It is explained in the "AI Flyables Pack 5.3x" of the MOD Act post (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,37662.0.html), and it should look something like "#SAS_Flyable AI Aircraft" which would be available through JSGME.
Let me know.

Now to get to flying...
Thanks UD

I am glad you got it going Papa.
Enjoy.
-
I'm wondering If UQMG updates will work with other Il2 style installs apart from CUP.
-
Yes... but, keep in mind that only the features that are applicable to particular versions will work... So obviously Japanese aircraft will not work on any demo, or original IL-2... and of course modded planes will not work in Daidalos upgrades... There are many super packs to choose from, which makes it impossible for me to keep up with all of them. I like to stick to one good and stable super pack. I provided content and did some work on CUP, so that is the version that I want to support.
-
BTW,
The reason it is taking me so long to put an update is that I am going through some career changes and moving, but besides that, I am trying to add forgotten coutries... Oh crud... this is the most mind-numbing process ever to add all those new regiments... I literally want to shoot my computer, and after working on this dull task for weeks I just realized I screwed it up... I think I'll be better off writing a new program just to create the regiment files.... AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
-
Uber dont forget life comes first mate - take all the time you need its a cracking piece of kit as it stands!

Real Life is always first. About versions I was talking about DBW, I tried C.U.P. but is not my cup of tea.

You still should be able to use a lot of it in DBW (when the time comes)... a lot of planes in CUP are in DBW... not all but still.

so I'm up and running again & will just install anything new when the time comes...ha ha ...

Il 2 when you have the time and feeling for it

Take your time to settle down in your new home and job (got through 5 of these)

-
Yeah UberDemon - Good luck with the move. Just a question - is there a possibility of having UQMG reading the files it needs like (aircraft, maps & weapons) directly from IL-2 instead of having to update it manually? I think this is the biggest issue with other mission/campaign generators like DCG too.
-
JG7_X_Man,
I know it has been a while since you asked the question, but here is the answer: Today, no UQMG can't. When I wrote UQMG first, it was for stock IL-2. It eventually updated with FB, AEP, etc... up to 1946, but all stock, so that was before we had the insight into the IL-2 java files. It would take an enormous amount of work to change the 47K or so lines of code in UQMG to do that.
I started writing a newer version a while back in VS 2010, but have not worked on it for a while. It actually read the files from the game instead of custom built scripts.
Biggest problem with any application like this is that MOD developers don't always add the text files with weapon codes... sometimes they are just in the Java files, so it would be impossible to get them unless you wrote a Java addon that read the weapon codes from the embedded java classes in the code and produced a text file that could be written... it would be possible but probably a lot of work. I think only PAL would be able to do that...
In the future when I retire I hope to dedicate a lot more time to this.
UberDemon
-
So UD, please retire now, or at least in two weeks! ;D
-
So UD, please retire now, or at least in two weeks! ;D
If I could, I would... I even considered paying out of pocket for a conversion of VB6 to VB.net, but the MS-endorsed company only gives up to 20K lines of code free, so basically my application is too big... something like $1000 to $12,000 American dollars for an incomplete conversion... so I am like, not F-ing way! This is just a hobby I get no money out of it.
I am not giving up though... I'll figure out a way to make this work.
