Title: Taking requests!
Post by: SAS~Poltava on July 17, 2019, 03:48:12 PM
I am busy updating my old campaigns to BAT (and it will take a while), but seeing all the lovely new maps and lovely new aircraft that now can be found in BAT, I feel I want to build something brand new as well. (And I think right now mainly for the WAW module.)

But please, help me out here!

Any suggestions?  :D

"Raging eagles" reincarnation for BAT? :)

Mmmmh... I think the Atlantic maps have never been used for any campaign. I do not know if we have a CAM-ship mod, but it could be a nice idea for a Hurricat convoy protection campaign (Hurricane has never been used this way in a campaign, except in the very old FB-AEP 2.04 era...) !

Glasgow. Clydebank and the Firth of Clyde March 1941.Airfields .Shipping, industry, transport, ship yards  AA etc  are all available in BAT but would need a whole new map

I would love to see a 'Blenheim Boys' campaign, suicidal low flying in outdated aircraft. Attacks on convoys, ports and airfields.

realize you into WAW or ww2 but we could use some misisons or campaigns with SAMS in the 3.6 update since the strelas are there. Could be from the 60's or 80's if you up to it. Nothign major. Maybe even a training campaign set in desert scenery or area 51 nevada scenery.

What about a couple of Dutch Do 24 missions in the Far East during the first six monthes after Pearl Harbour?

Sorry if I,m posting this in the wrong Forum

Would a request for an A-20 Havoc Turbinlite Night Fighter 1941..An unusual solution for a pressing problem . Sources quote that @70 were built

I remember building the FROG model of one in the early 1960,s...(one of the very very  few things I remember of the 60,s  :) )..

I think a Westland Whirlwind campaign would be interesting with a mix of fighter sweeps, bomber escorts, fighter bomber raids etc.
Also a South African AF career through East and North Africa then Italy. A RAAF career through Europe Africa and the Pacific, similar to Clive Caldwell which I believe may have been covered earlier.
I look forward to your 'Years of' series, i.e. Triumph, Struggle, Loss?
By the time these are all completed I will probably have lost my sight and mind lol.

I feel like we are sorely missing late war luftwaffe/VVS campaigns, or anything VVS really, or late war westfront stuff. I'd love to see some huge bomber formations and intercept em, or some big airbattles with late war soviet fighters. I've been trying to get some old DCG campaigns to work in bat but it's certainly not easy!

Hi Poltava,

I am quite new on this forum. I have restartet recently my il-2 "pilot carrier" by installing the wonderful VP and BAT mods. I‘ve been playing the sim since the release of the Pacific Fighters pack.
First of all I want to thank you for your outstanding contributions regarding campaign modding. IMO your campaigns are amongst the very best: so much atmosphere and action often in unusal or unknown theaters like the Arctic Brewsters, Battle of France, Holland, Philippines, SCW, Romanian Barbarossas …....
To give suggestions to Poltava regarding a new campaign that's almost like Christmas....... Since I like the unknown ore rarely covered theaters I have some suggestions for your upcoming campaign(s) in the WAW (and Jeta age) modul:

1) Israeli independence war
There exists an old campaign "Fighters over Israel" by BillyPrice (2006) displaying some missions in this theater. I have adapted the campaign to the BAT mod by replacing the Bf 109 G10 by the historically correct Avia S-199 and the corresponding skins. The campaign works fine in BAT but nevertheless this is a very simple and easy campaign on the desert map of the stock game. I would appreciate a contemporary conversion of this 1948/1949 topic. A lot of ancient WW2 planes were in use on both sides: Avia S-199, Spitfires, C47, B17, MC-205, FIAT G-55, Beaufigthers (?), Mosquitos (?), Probably not the P51 at that time, and so on.

2) The Suez Crisis 1956/1957
In principle within the Jet War module, but a wonderful mix of early jets and late WW2 planes: P51D, Mosquitos, Beaufigthers, B17, Meteors, FAA carrier operations (Sea Hawk, Sea Venom, Sea Fury(?)), French Naval/Carrier operations (F4U), Dassault Ouragan, Dassault Mystere IV, MIG-15, IL-28, many others. Unfortunately the Ouragan and the Mystere do no exist for any mod to my knowledge. But they could be hacked by using instead the F-86 for example.

3) Early phase of the Corea conflict
Very often the campaigns are focussing on the duel between MIG-15 and F-86. But there were large numbers of piston fighters, bombers and older jets in use: late versions of the YAK-9, late Lawotchkins, IL-2, P51D/H, Twin Mustang, Sea Fury (!), Grumman Panther, F-80, Meteor, MIG-9 (?), Tu-4; B-29/50, etc. I like the mix of jets and piston fighters. How about a Yak-9 campaign, or a Sea Fury Campaign, or other unusal setups?

4) Football War or 100 Hour War (El Salvador, Honduras, 1969)
A very unusal setup in the latin American Djungle. One of the last conflicts fought by piston figters on both sides: primarily F4U and P51.

Regards,

Teddy

Hello Teddy

Some of the material you suggest already exists in some way, shape or form, mostly for older modpacks though. I know of older Suez stuff, but that would need updating I'd guess.

As for Meteors in Korea, I would like to refer you to this one:

Plenty of interesting ideas here! Keep them coming! I will decide in a couple of weeks!  8)

As mentioned when I started the thread: I am looking for seldom or even unused aircraft and/or maps, and seldom covered air campaigns, and there are obviously more that I thought. Which is a good thing!  ;)

When I am converting my old stuff to BAT I will sometimes take the opportunity to do "doubles" or "triples", i.e. use an existing campaign and create a more or less identical one, using a player mod aircraft that has seen to little use in this game. (For example my "Romanian Barbarossa".) So seldom used aircraft can sometimes be put in action using this trick! But sometimes they really call out for an original campaign!

I like the Football War (actually, I think no campaign uses the ElSaHoNic map...) !

Hi Poltava"

Considering there are lots of good request Im not sure if youre interested in having Vietnam war in the scene. Im fascinated with Huey choppers with rockets firing on small huts and troops armed with aaa. The music from 1960's like Somebody to love by Jefferson airplane,  Rollingstone's-Paint it black, Bad Moon rising or Fortunate Son by CCR,  etc. for an ambience and also Vietnam radio chatters in dusty camp of dugholes and mud...btw IDK what happened to Khe San mission it doesnt work on my BAT version and it was removed I think. I like simple Missions like protect the camp/city from attackers, or strike sampans[boat] in rivers, enemy jungle storage camps under attack and on of wooden bridges to destroy. I like white smokes on hills too. Well thats for the starters as I dont know much of the regiments of such but places like Saigon, Nhom Phen, and Ho Chi Minh trail, are the key places for 1960's GI conflicts..my bad i dont have the historic material documents though on what or where the aircraft specifically flew. So thats another option whether fiction or historic based and if its feasible on the current state of BAT. I have Blitz version already anyway.. :-|

Somehow I agree. Good Vietnam campaigns are seldom. There exist some campaigns by VPmedia in the VP mod. But for the BAT mod It's hard to find something interesting (in my opinion). Since you asked primarily for the WAW module probably you are not really interested in a Vietnam campaign. Nevertheless I (and perhaps others) would be interested in good ground attack or dogfighting campaigns over the Vietnamese djungle (not so much in chopper campaigns). How about a south Vietnamese Skyraider campaign, a USAAF F-100D figther bomber campaign, or an USM F-8 Crusader fighter campaign (the F-8 Crusader was a wonderful agile fighter aircraft - the last real dogfighter!). Or a north Vietnamese Mig-17 or Mig-21 campaign. Or a F-5 Tiger or a F-104 Starfighter campaign in the early Vietnam war. So many ideas.....

Have you considered doing a Western Front 1946 campaign? We do have a lot of interesting 46 planes to use for both sides, like the DH Vampire, Bf-109Ls, and the Twin Mustang. There aren't enough Western Front 46 campaigns compared to Eastern Front 46.

I always wanted to see a RAF 203 squadron campaign. They were based in Aden and flew Blenheim MkIVF against the Italians over Ethiopia, Germans over Crete, Iraqis over Habbinaya, and Vichy over Syria.  The number of varied aircraft you would go up against makes it appealing to me.

Hi Poltava. Congratulations on an epic amount of campaigns with such a variety too. And good work on updating them for BAT.
I believe the planes you list are not catered for yet.
There was a short campaign for the Philippine AF with the P26 Peashooter but I am not sure if the P35 was included. That is the only combat the P35 was involved in as far as I know. In fact the 34 Pursuit Squadron with 38 P35As flew in combat from 8th December 1941 to 3rd May 1942. At least 24 were destroyed on the ground. 8 survivors moved to Bataan on 6th January but some were downed by nervous friendly fire. They claimed a few enemy planes and lost only a few in return.
The CW21B was used in the NEI and during the Japanese invasion of Java according to my reference books. Small numbers ideal for Il2 missions. I can supply operational details if you dont already have them.
The Boomerang was used over the new Guinea jungle as a spotter and recce plane but I don't think it ever fought Japanese planes, although they were in the area.
The Br693 should provide some exciting ground attack missions in 1940.
The Pete recce fighter was very agile and was known to attack B24s as well as other fighters.
I hope this gives you some idea of choice.
The Ba88 was mainly used as an airfield decoy due to its lack of ability to stay in flight on one engine.
The Ta154 was in limited use as a night fighter

For the CW-21 at least two great campaigns by Vole are available for the stock game at M4T:

Dutch Demons
http://mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads&file=details&id=4092

Java in Japanese Jaws
http://mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads&file=details&id=4203

Playing them in the marvelous VP-mod-pack (compatible with every stock campaign/mission!) gives them an outstanding new (more realistic) look. I don't know if these campaigns are compatible wit the BAT-mod-pack - I did not check. BAT is not allways compatible with stock campaigns/missions. But the graphical quality of the VP mod pack is at least as good as BAT and the performance (fps) is largely sufficient.
I have allways two mod-packs installed on my SSD: the BAT-mod-pack since nowadays it is the mod to go for, and the VP-mod-pack (including the Jet-pack) because of the wonderful graphics, the availability of a large number of compatible modded campaigns at M4T and its 100% compatibility with stock campaigns/missions up to version 4.12.2m - so you have hundreds of good stock campaigns available. Disk space is not so expensive today.....

Another idea for a new/old campaign: there exists a set of "Battle of Britain - day by day" campaigns by Hamm66 (http://mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads3&file=details&id=2048) for three different mod packs. Unfortunately the HSFX variant (the only contemporary 4.12.2 variant) is very basic. But the older variants for older mods (DBW 1.71, TFM 4.12) are really giant. I have never seen anywhere else such epic aerial battles in IL-2 1946 - sometimes more than 100 planes. Unfortunately these full scale variants are not compatible with the recent BAT or VP modpacks. Taking into consideration the beautifully detailed BAT channel map and the excellent fps performance of this recent mod pack it would be a good idea to convert one of the full versions of this campaign for the BAT modpack. The result should be outstanding.....

I am very interested in PTO and I see that there are not many "historical" campaigns about usa vs japan with carrier operations.
I found something but in old dbw and in 4.13 but not much in 4.12 (at least i did not find).
Above all there is almost nothing with Hellcat, helldivers and/or japanese bombers such as B5N2.

So I would appreciate very much any historical campaign with all the features of BAT.

I think the DBW dcg Carrier Operations by lonestar67 will greatly benefit of all.BAT features.
Another very old (90 missions) campaign is USS Enterprise campaign by horsemen.

Still would be fine to have historical campaign with pearl harbor and midway operations with BAT features.

S! SAS~Poltava,  I hope all is well.  I have over the years downloaded many of your missions and enjoyed them very much.  I happened upon this thread and figured I would make a few suggestions for campaigns or Ops.

What is missing in the campaign department for BAT/WAW?
Japanese POV regarding carrier ops, there are plenty of Allied, but this seems to be lacking from the Japanese side.  (unless I have over looked something)

Is there a great map out there sorely under-used? Or perhaps not used at all?
Solomons, Coral Sea
Is there an interesting aircraft that deserves its own campaign?

Is there some particular operation or battle that hasn't yet been portrayed - or at least not portrayed to the extent that is possible in the BAT/WAW universe?
Santa Cruz, Coral Sea, Pearl, Wake maybe?

Just my two cents.

Again, your missions are top notch and thank you for all your efforts.

I found that hard to believe, that the air operations of the Japanese Navy was badly covered, but I checked, and I saw that you are correct! There is a distinct lack of Japanese carrier campaigns.

I shall certainly consider this. Good point - thanks!  8)

Like as KI_109 and its campaign Empire Defenders, i thinks must have its glory another famous but still now  negletcted plane: C6N Saiun.
There are 3d models  from FSX and CFS2 to be converted.
The Saiun could be the star of night missions against USAF or torpedoes's missions launched vs naval invasion task forces.
If there Is an istance for somethig really NEW, what else than the Saiun.

Best regards ti all Modders

The 1946 Japan ones were pretty good, which is one of the reason why I request something similar.

I'm a bit late to this thread but...

Apart from Jackstone's Big Bird campaign, I'm not aware of any heavy bomber campaigns, particularly RAF and night bombing.  Given that both the USAAF and RAF "round the clock" bombing is considered a major aspect of the Second World War it's something that's not really covered.  I get the point that IL2 is primarily a "fighter" sim but I'm sure there's some hard-core 'heavy' pilots out there.

That being said, I'm new to the BAT mod so perhaps I haven't come across those types of campaigns yet.  In addition I'm not sure the "night" required for RAF heavies is modelled appropriately.

I've started a B-17 campaign (non-dynamic), from engine start-up and taxi to landing (i.e. looong missions) but it's going slow.

Hi, tomoose,

Hamm66's Lancaster Tour of Duty campaign features in a Bat missions pack. I'm assuming (dangerous, I know) that if I copy/paste the BAT single missions into the original campaign it'll work - maybe I don't even need to do that. And yes, night time would require a graphics tweak - at least the way I've got Il2 set up.

I'm busy looking through large-scale US bomber/escort missions and campaigns (and lots of skins) - will report back if I find them BAT friendly. I'm tempted to make my own, but as a complete noob to that sort of thing, I think it might be overly ambitious for a complete beginner.

Andy H.
for what it's worth, I have a 'starter' mission (24 B-17s, taxi-to-takeoff, large formation and hitting French coast).  Long mission but OK for a template I think.
Let me know if you'd like to use it and I'll get on to mediafire.
cheers,
Tomoose

I was wondering if you had ever considered the 5 missions of "Operation Frantic", since the Central Ukraine map has all 3 cities used for the USSR's host staging?

Thanks :)

Late to this thread too - using Tbauchots NW Europe map - a Boston/Mossie low level precision bombing campaign - 1943 and 1944 - much like Mosquito Legends campaign but borader than just 105 sq

Also 252 Squadron beafighters roving over Greece in 1943-44 taking on shipping, ports and occasionaly flying boats and fighters

I would like to see a different shape of British Pacific Fleet and Eastern Fleet.

FAA is only limited to Corsairs or Hellcats Campaigns.
We have a cool Sri Lanka Map and parts of the operational areas mapped.
Nice planes for the FAA, Albacores, Barracudas, Fireflies, Avengers, Catalinas.
It could be a simple Maintenance Unit Campaign based
in Ceylon, prepping all the Kites or showing ADDLS, practicing Operations,
Ground attacks, Carrier training, Squadron forming. ASR, using Radar Kites,
such stuff or some Operational campaigns.
Sumatra/Java Raids with these Kites
or
BPF late War scenario Okinawa/Sakishima Gunto, with Avenger, Fireflies, Barras wrecking Havoc.

I made myself Single Missions, but it's different to having a neatly
worked out Campaign to fly. I'm mostly into QMB, and building up immersion
a different pair of shoes.

Just some suggestions

Best wishes
Tobias

Blackshark;
are you looking for my 'starter' mission?  I had sent the mediafire link to Andy H via PM back in March but can post a link here if that's what you're after.

Hi Poltava, may I suggest a Curtiss Hawk 75 fighter campaign as a dutch KNIL pilot on 1942? Now that we have Martin 139, G3M Nell bombers and a nice map, could be interesting.

Anyway, thank you for so many campaigns that I've been enjoying these years.

Hello
Gentlemen , what about the missions, the Hind campaign in Afghanistan.
Not very interesting ?.After many years of fighting on fighters and bombers I became interested in helicopters.
In this edition of the B.A.T it is hard to control them, but after a few attempts it fights great, especially the Mi-24.

I have one KNIL campaign on my afterburner, for the Do-24, and to do a fighter campaign would actually be a very nice thing. Good idea! You can use those great, new maps of this part of Asia.

PS. Modern era helo campaigns are waaay out of my expertise, but perhaps there are other takers?

I personally would like a long Spitfire (ideally 1941-44 Channel), P-47, P-38, P-40, A-20, B-25, Bf 110 or Bf 109 campaign (extending the Years of Triumph to 1945 is my dream). Some carrier operations would be nice as well.

  • Is there a great map out there sorely under-used? Or perhaps not used at all?

Any suggestions?  :D

Thanks for asking  :)

There are a few maps not used for campaigns AFAIK and that's a pity:
Poland 1944
Poland 1945 winter
Silesia
Transcaucasia

Well i am surely far to late,

And i see that a KNIL campaign is in the pipeline (yeey, perhaps even with the Curtis CW-21B of  2-VLG-IV and 1-VLG-V.)
If you need help with the historical background for a KNIL campaign do not hesitate to ask. Would be more then happy to dive in the family archive and go through Grandpa's papers.

I would however suggest a campaign of the Circus and Rhubarbs. I think i am still in the process of conversion "under the white rose" but is very underused.
