Great! Many thanks to those involved.

Why does it have an AI and a flyable version separated?

Why not?
That way I see the percentage preference between an AI version and a full version!  ;)

Okay.... (I downloaded both for no particular reason, so)

Is there a limitation that the flyable can't be handled by AI or something?

Is there a limitation that the flyable can't be handled by AI or something?
I don't understand your question.
The difference between the two versions is simple: the AI version has no cockpit!
So there are fewer Classes to load through the game... less possible source of error!
Why put up a cockpit if you never fly that plane?
In my game all bombers are AI only (B-17/B-24/B-29/Halifax/Welly/Lancaster/PBM/PBY/St..l..g/...) !!
If you don't want to fly with this plane, load the AI version. If you wish to fly from time to time with this aircraft, load the FLY version.
But don't install both at the same time!  ;)

Bombardier position does not work properly for me.
I just see the copilot's back and the lower half is all black. Is this supposed to be like that?

... no, there's no limitation, you can switch your flyable Bombay into AI mode whenever you like, with the dedicated key in your game, and she will behave like an AI plane, and, for ex, take off or land automatically ...  ;)

Like Epervier, since I never fly heavies, whenever I have the choice I always install the AI version, much lighter, no cockpit folder (with potential conflict with another cockpit) and less java class files (less potential conflicts too ...) ...  :P

Dear Epervier,
I installed the first version from Edlor in my WAW install.
I am a little lost inside your proposal.
What should I change in my install from your proposal in order to stay safe?
Best regards.

This version is totally different.
I give no warranty for installations on versions other than the 409!
But it is quite obvious that if you want to test this new version, you must completely uninstall the previous version then install this one!
That makes sense!  ;)

I will try the Flyable version in my VP-Modpack, maybe it will work as the other 4.09 aircraft too  :)

Cheers and Thank you!

:-X
We see the pilot's ass in case the bombardment sight is at 85°! What's useless... 60° is the maxi advised!
But without the black blindfold. I assume there's an incompatibility with the 412?
Unfortunately, there's nothing I can do.
Let's hope for your sake that an Imperialist guardian angel will take care of this problem.

This what I get in Bombardier position in 4.12 BAT WAW.

TD changed the way the player entered the bomb sight with the 4.12 patch so if you use other versions you see what you have, it will require the 4.09 Bombardier class replacing with the relevant 4.12 one. ;)

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Hello,

I am currently running a modded game, v 4.12.2m SAS Modact v 5.3 and SAS AI Flyables v 5.3. I would love to add this plane to my game and have downloaded the flyable version but have a couple of questions. A friend of mine also downloaded the plane and tried to install it in his modded game, which is the same as mine. He tried using the 4.09 SAS FM but got a CTD at 70%. I have recently reread the posts and found the attachment for the 4.10 FM. Would this work in 4.12 since this is a newer version? Should I try installing the plan in 4.12 with the 4.10 FM and if so where (which folder) should it be placed? Or would the game crash again because the FM and game version don't match? Thanks for all your kind attention and help

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm going to try it. I'm assuming the 4.10 FM overwrites the one in the download. Is that correct? Thanks again.

Replaced the DL Bombay FM that came in the Bombay FLY folder with the 410 FM DL (overwrote) and got a 70% CTD. You say that the plane works with the 410 FM. Where did you put it to get it to work?

I am using BAT. no idea, I can't imagine that making a difference here really. Strange, unless the FM references something outside itself that you're missing. But that would be unusual.

Hello Again,

I would like to thank everyone who has responded and has tried to help me. I very much appreciate all the time you have spent listening to my frustrations. Unfortunately I am not an expert in game installs and I am a little confused as to the way the installation instructions are worded in the readme. As I have said above I have tried various combinations with no success. For someone like me I need step by step instructions on how and what to do something when I am not sure. That's the only way I know to get things right and I am not afraid to ask for help. Before proceeding further I would like to pose a few preliminary questions to all of you to show what I have been going through.
I know these are probably basic questions for most of you but I keep having trouble getting this plane installed correctly. Here is what I did step by step.  I believe I followed all instructions to the letter.

I installed the folders 01_Weapons_USA_GB, 05_SSP_Bristol_Bombay,  and 06_ Bristol Bombay_FLY directly into "Modact 5.30 main game folder > #SAS".

Following all instructions I added the appropriate lines to the .ini files, #SAS > STD > com > maddox > il2 > objects > air.ini,  #SAS > STD > com > maddox > il2 > objects > stationary.ini,  and #SAS > STD > com > maddox > il2 > objects > technics.ini.

along with lines in #SAS > STD > i18n > plane, #SAS > STD > i18n > technics,  and #SAS > STD > i18n > weapons.properties.

I replaced the "Bombay_FM" file in #SAS > 06_ Bristol Bombay_FLY with the "Bombay_FM" file from the download link at the bottom off the first post for the 4.10 diff mod.

Question 1:  Did I put that file (the 4.10 file) in the right place?
Question 2, There are two folders with minus signs in front of them in the "Bristol_Bombay_FLY" folder,
                                                  "-FM_409_SAS" and "-FM_409_UV2_UV3".
What, if anything, should be done with them?

Question 3, I have a 16:9 monitor.  The ModAct runs fine as is.  Do I need to do anything with the folder
"- if your monitor is 19-9_"?

Thanks in advance for any and all help. This is a learning experience for me so I appreciate the patience of all those much more knowledgeable than myself.

I can confirm this works great in my CUP install (4.12.2m) so navyace you must be doing something wrong?? Have you only got one Bombay_FM in your 06_Bristol Bombay_FLY folder? It should be just the 4.10 version. I deleted the other folders you refer too they shouldnt be neccessary I'm not even sure you need the 01_weapons folder either???

Yes, ONLY one FM file, the 410 FM file is in 06_Bristol Bombay_FLY.  The only other FM files are in the minused folders.  (see below).

I deleted "-FM_409_SAS" and "-FM_409_UV2_UV3" folders and both "if your monitor" folders leaving the 3do, classfiles and BombayFM files.
 70% Crash.

 I removed "01_Weapons_USA_GB" folder from #SAS.

70% Crash.

Did you install any differently than the way I did it in the post above?

I noticed one thing and that's the capitalization of the file naming:

FM called 'FlightModels/Bombay.fmd:Bombay_FM' is being loaded from File: 'bombay_fm'
[5:56:14 AM]   FM called 'FlightModels/Bombay.fmd:Bombay_FM' is being loaded from Alternative File: 'bombay_fm'
[5:56:14 AM]

my own Bombay_FM is in caps, as is the actual line in the java file. I am not sure but I think FMs are case sensitive....?
All the FM files in the zip I have are caps.
What's your FM file named, caps or lower case?

I really sorry NavyAce, I just D/L the plane(s), put them in the #SAS folder and add the line to the air.ini and give her a go. If it works then fine, but if it does the 70% CDT I just remove it and restore the air.ini with back up I made and get on with things figuring I'll never know what to do. Most of this remains a complete mystery to me anyway. I'm sure you'll get it working with the help of some of really knowledgeable guys here.   Good luck!

I havent checked the bombadier station although i installd the flyable version i just use it as AI, cockpits fine tho.
Navyace, as vampire says your game appears to be calling for 2 different _fm's. Have you tried just deleting the whole package and starting again? If that doesnt work you maybe have a classfile conflict somewhere? Are you installing it before anything else? If so try renaming the folder and move it up or down the pecking order in your #SAS folder.

For this kind of thing the game is about making a difference.  ;)
On the other hand it is very important in Java programming.

Hi Again,

I just wanted to say thank you for the expertise and patience that everyone here has shown me in working with my Bombay install to 4.12.2m SAS Modact v 5.3. It has been a long and winding road, but persistence has paid off! I now have a flyable Bombay in my game along with AI and a useable SSP. Here is how I did it.

I uninstalled the plane completely, all folders and files) so I could get a fresh start. I may have been over thinking this so I decided to make it as straightforward and simple as possible. My first step was not to bother with anything that didn't have to do with the flyable plane, so I didn't bother downloading the AI version. I decided not to try and confuse myself by trying to interpret (or over interpret) the readme and just went ahead with the install as I usually do. I unzipped the .7z file for the 06_Bristol_Bombay_FLY and dropped the plane folder into the SAS folder and left everything inside alone. I then  opened the read me and copied and pasted the relevant air.ini.  Then I started the game and checked that I had a flyable version and that all controls worked.  Then I added the plane.properties and weapons.properties lines into their respective files.  After each addition I would restart the game and ensure that the plane was working properly.  I then dropped the 01_  Weapons_USA_GB folder into the games folder. At each one of these steps I saved the work and exited and rebooted the game to make sure nothing caused a CTD and tried going to the QMB screen to see what would show up and at the end clicked FLY and my plane appeared with full control over all the control surfaces and the throttles. I also decided to try installing the SSP, being careful at each step as this is where I think the previous crashes were occurring.  I started by dropping the 05_SSP_Bristol_Bombay folder into the SAS folder. I added the stationary.ini and technics.ini lines to the [Self_StationaryPlanes]  and Self Stationary Planes  sub headings I had created under each category, self checking after each entry for crashes. Finding none, I proceeded to the FMB and found the plane (with picture) in the aircraft library. I then selected a map and placed the SSP Bombay on it clicked enter and was able to view it. I then tried to save the test and was successful. I now have a flyable Bombay with working AI and a working SSP. I hope this helps others.

I would like to add that I still have only half the bombardier's position, which is OK, but even though loading the information from the Weapons folder I still have only three options, default 8x250 lb and 8x250SP. I don't have the parachutists or the cargo. But this is nitpicking as everything else works and I can use the plane for what I need. Thanks again to all who contributed and helped the new kid.

I tries out this aircraft in VP's modpack and it worked fine but the self-stationary version doesn't show up when you place it on a map. I presume this is because of an incompatibility between 4.09 and 4.12 and isn't a problem with my own particular rig.

There is no difference between SSP 409 and SSP 412... except one...
I mention it in my SSP posts:
IF YOUR GAME IS 412 (MA or HSFX) !
Do not use the SSP to function take off of IA from parking!

Thanks for the reply, Epervier. The problem was down to me installing the SSP wrongly. I notice that your illustration in the first post shows the Bombay with RAF roundels. My Bombay, flyable or SSP in BAT or VP modpack, will not take any markings of any nation. Any idea why this is?

:D
As it is mentioned under each image they are from Edlor.
If you look at the contents of the "summer" folder the skin has no marking.
So you have no problem.
Choose a new skin and turn it into a default skin!  ;)

You must install either the flyable version or the AI version!
You invented hot water!
How can the presence of both versions be justified?
If you install the flyable version, you will also have the possibility to have the plane for AIs only!
In this case, try to install the AI version is useless!
So your demonstration is useless and can cause problems.
I don't advise to do what you explain!

... like Epervier says, a flyable plane becomes an AI plane when you don't fly it yourself ...   :P

So why bother to install both versions ...?  :-X

If you never intend to fly the plane, only install the AI version, and if you think you may fly the plane some day or from time to time, then only install the flyable version ...  ;)

A software capable of converting TGA files to BMP files (1024x1024 indexed colors - 8 bits - without alpha channel).

For new default skin... it is good !

For the rest, I only do things for the 409!
I don't do any "after-donation service" for all other versions!

I've downloaded the aircraft but the markings don't show up even if I turn them on. How can I fix this?

change skin! this Bombay doesn't have markings in default! :D

start the game, choose Bombay and wear her in the skin you wanna make default in FMB>hit the Windows button>go to IL-2/PaintSchemes/Cache and you will see the folder of the aircraft so open it and copy 4 tga files then go #SAS or anyway your mods folder open Bombay folder then go 3DO/Summer and here you will see 4 tga files! so~ REPLACE them with the files from the cache!! and you're done!

for now this is the only way to make bombay with the markings because she has no decals in default

Epervier Confirm that please :)

In the QMB it's the same... launch the mission and then do as described...

Or simply change the skin in the QMB or FMB as usual....  :D
