Anto,

First, thank you.

I'm a big fan of your work, but I have had one thought for a while. As with the Ultimate 109 pack, I actually miss having seperate slots for trop versions, and I doubt that I am the only one. I understand that the filters show up on a "desert" map, but this leaves it up to the map maker to determine if the trop filter is going to show, and assumes the long-term status quo "summer", "winter", "desert" regarding map category selection. However, I think this mod may take off in the future:

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,8262.0.html

Obviously, this could cause difficulty with the selection of trop types. For example, if a future map had the designation “malta” instead of “desert” would the trop type or regular type be used? If there were dedicated trop slots, then the user could always choose if they wanted to fly trops or not regardless of future mod technology. ;)

Understood booga and unfortunately the best I can do is update this mod if those designations for maps do come into widespread use (which as of yet, they have not). I would like to include a seperate trop slot but due to the demands of the larger packs like UP and HSFX, I've opted to remove them. Since it is difficult managing two different versions of a mod, from now on I'm keeping the Mod Act version identical to that in UP.

I have a feeling that the new UP might introduce this designation and if it does, I'll make the necessary changes to allow trop filters to appear in correct places :)

Thank you Anto for another great fighter pack!

To booga and Anto,

a solution could be what I have mentioned with my last post in the new spitfire pack:

I have one suggestion (or question):
We have a lot of Spitfire variants in the game (same as Bf-109) and all over thousend different plane variants in our modded game.
So I am thinking about to reduce the amount of variants by using the Customization (of the skins) as done with the Fokker D.XXI.
I hope you modders could use the Customization for minor optical changes without substantial influence to the flight model (like FB variants or gunsights, perhaps Trop filter too).

I like to fly historical accurate planes with historical skins and I like the amount of variants we have reached with the mods.
Cant get enough of them. Big thank to all modders.

With the Customization you could have in one flight Hurricanes with and without Trop filter.
I believe there was some Bf109Trops on the Eastern Front / Finland too.
So with Customization you can assign a mod to a specific skin (independ if the map is desert, summer or winter).
But I have never seen a mod using the Customization-tool?

Is it just me, or does everyone only see the stock cockpits?

This may be covered elsewhere...but I need to ask.Am currently playing with the new HSFX5.0 that has a lot of these Hurris already.I tried to instll the entire pack & did all the changes in STD but it (of course) suffers a60% CTD. All I seem to really need are the Sea Hurricanes which are not in HSFX5.0..is it possible to install these only?
BTW HSFX seems to be a bit fussy on which SAS4.10 planes it will allow- has anyone else found this to be true?
Title: Re: SAS Hurricane Pack v2.1

I was sorta afraid of this...My UP install of 4.09 worked a little better than the HFSX one...too bad- the HFSX5.0 has a lot going for it...

Sorry fellas, I don't support HSFX. Only Mod Act and Ultr@pack. HSFX is now a completly different kettle of fish and I have a hard enough time making mods for 1 version of the game as it is!

Is there any consideration given to including the Yugoslav-produced Hurricanes?

They were Mk.I Early airframes (canvass wings) but with 3-blade metal props and Merlin III's as in the RAF Mk.IA.

Armed with 8 x 7.92mm FN Brownings or alternatively with just 6 (in Romanian service - the two outermost guns were removed to save weight and improve agility) with 320 rounds per gun.

No reflector, ring-and-bead sights only.

Due to use of inferior materials, they were slightly overweight, by about 30 kg compared to their counterparts in Yugoslav service imported from Hawker but built to the same specification.

So:

empty weight 2180 kg
takeoff weight 2970 kg
top speed 522 km/h @ 5000 m
Ceiling 10500
Time-to-altitude 10.5 min to 6000 m
Range 1190 km

Oh BABY!
Yep, official designation LVT-1, a Hurricane fuselage mated to a DB-601. One prototype converted from an existing Hawker-built Hurricane in preparation for a full scale local production.

However the profile isn't 100% accurate, there aren't many surviving photos of the bird so there is some speculation about how exactly did the cowling looked like. It is clear however that it wasn't simply lifted from Me 109 as the image above would suggest.

The plane was extensively tested and showed good promise, but the programme was halted when Germans invaded Yugoslavia. During the April campaign it was briefly flown operationally but was damaged after a forced landing caused by engine trouble. The wreck was then destroyed to prevent its capture.

One thing that is certain is that most work was done in a shop.
The cowling shape did match the fuselage (almost), and the workers bent it a little with their hands to fit!

The armament was also pretty awesome - 8 wing machine-guns and a 20mm nose cannon!

In ref. to Feb 3, 2011 thread, I recently installed the HurricanePackSAS and just discovered I have the same problem that was discussed last February. Most of the Hurricane models don't respond to the throttle just as was described before. The RPM slowly drop. When the joystick throttle is moved the boost dial registers a change.
I have SAS button v8.6.7z, offline. My game version is 409m modified to UP 2.01. I have a Logitech throttle which seems to work except for the Hurricanes.
I couldn't see that the solution offered in Feb. applied to my problem. Any help out there?

I have exactly the same problem with all stock Spitfire V's and also hurricanes. Do you know what causes this issue?

My Spitfire Vs work in both UP201 and 410.1. I just have problems with the Hurricanes. And no, I'm sorry, I haven't the slightest idea what the problem is. The only reference I found to a similar problem showed up in a "throttle problems" search "Tech Help" for Feb 3, 2011 entitled "Buttons 7.7 No Throttle Hurricane," but, as you can see, the buttons issue was put to bed long before Buttons 8.6.7z. Sorry I can't be more help. I originally put this note in "Tech Help," but no solution was offerred. I moved it to here hoping someone had some ideas.

I dunno whether I did something wrong with the installation (don't think so!), but I just tried to land a Sea Hurricane Mk.IIc on an aircraft carrier: as soon as the plane is about to hit the deck the game will freeze and the mouse pointer will come up, only to end up CTDing :(  I've tried it twice now, any ideas?

Ok, so it does it with the Seafire and Hellcat as well, seems like it does it with all the prop planes! I tried to land the Fury (the jet) and it went flawlessly.. could it really be related to the 00000_SAS_AI_Engine_HotKeys_Carriers then?

but several models of Hurricane appear with black glasses, probably a mistake of material, i found this error in several places, using the latest version of Ultrapack and HSFX 6 and now in DBW.

I installed this MOD on intuition to fix the problem, but without success.

try to desable every mod who has the hurris within, ie some pilots mods, engine fix mods etc etc. I'm pretty sure this does not come with default DBW, UP or HSFX. So it must have to do with some mods you added.

OK, I found the problem: skin1o.tga and skin1p.tga default skins have lost their alpha channel while downscaling skin1o.tgb. Proper fix is to downscale skin1o.tgb default skins properly as those other files, but you can also hide the bug by using TexLarge=1 instead of TexLarge=0 in your conf.ini. That conf.ini option gives higher skin resolution for all planes, so I'd try to use TexLarge=1 even on low-end computers when there is enough graphics memory.

Just took another look at tis and noticed something seems to be missing. I had it running fine in hsfx 6/Modact 4 but there was no De Haviland Hurri Mk I.
This one, specifically the Trop variant (I understnad that the trop filter loads automatically, Im just trying to find the correct variant):

Did this one get cut in the slot consolidation?

+1

I remember that in old version of this mod we can use Trop versions separately from oryginal ones without Volks filters (like ex Hurrican Mk.IIb)
The Hurris with that filter except African front was also used on Eastern front and on the Pacyfic/Asia front like Burma, Ceylon etc...

Actually not without altering it's classfiles!

One shortcoming is change the camo settings of the map where you like to see filters from it's default location into DESERT....

I think a 4.09 icon could be added to this topic.

Actual tropical filter squared shape is much different from current, rounded one:
would be great if someone could reshape it.

Hi SAS~Anto,

Is some or all of this pack included in DBW 1.71 ?   I know Sea Hurricanes are available in DBW - I wasn't sure if those come from this pack or somewhere else ?

Thanks - jg1234

I'm sure this pack was included in DBW but it is years since I worked on them, so not 100% sure.

Dear Anto,

please, would you add two 44-gallon drop tanks to Hurricane Mk.IIB?

I'm struggling to make it participating to Far East campaigns, but its short operational range is incompatible with historical missions.

As a reference, I found what follows on Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawker_Hurricane#Variants):

"The Hurricane II B were fitted with racks allowing them to carry two 250 lb or two 500 lb bombs. ... The same racks would allow the Hurricane to carry two 45-gallon (205 l) drop tanks instead of the bombs, more than doubling the Hurricane's fuel load." (As source, it mentions: Hiscock, Melvyn. Hawker Hurricane Inside and Out. Ramsbury, Marlborough, UK: The Crowood Press, 2003. ISBN 978-1-86126-630-9.)

Also, quoting Military History Encyclopedia on the Web (http://www.historyofwar.org/articles/weapons_hawker_hurricaneII.html) about the Mk IIA Series 2 (later becoming Mark IIB):

"It had the capability to take two 44 imperial gallon drop tanks, increasing its range."

The same mentions how 135 Squadron's Hurricane IIB "...reformed at Calcutta and began to fly convoy patrols over the Bay of Bengal. ...throughout 1942". Actually, 135 Sq. was based at Dum Dum (Kolkata), hundreds of miles from Bay of Bengal and nearest objectives in Burma.

Besides, I would suggest to add a "4.09" mark to this thread: I use flawlessly this mod from years on 4.09+UP2.01!

Thank you!

Not to worry, there might very well be someone doing this, Anto is along with many other modders gone because of RL events. Modding society has always been a number of changes, it is not news that modders quit, it is the lack of recruitment that is the problem. But we have still people active that can do it

HurricaneMkIIb.2xDrop44        2x 44gal Combat Tanks

And I see very well in the game!

Actually not without altering it's classfiles!

One shortcoming is change the camo settings of the map where you like to see filters from it's default location into DESERT....

How can I do it in HSFX 7.03 ?

Procedure is for HSFX 6, but I guess it should be the same for 7.

Look for load.ini file of map you want make sand filters appear. Its path should be like:

Mods\MAPMODS\Maps\Sandsoftime\

edit by NotePad, setting:

[WORLDPOS]
CAMOUFLAGE = DESERT

The map could be unavailable inside above mentioned path, since compressed into SFS files, in this case you should make your own mod, extracting the load.ini file, edited and then stored inside its proper folder (like Sandsoftime in the above mentioned example) and path (Mods\MAPMODS\Maps\) creating folders if not yet available.

Only one problem, on stock Hurricane I and Hurricane IId Field Mod canopies don t open, on any other variant canopies work perfectly. I don t know, is this a bug or by design? Thanks for info.

Maps are Burma and Burma lower... So, they are unavailable...

How sould I make my own mod, extracting the load.ini file? I'm afraid this is beyond me...

I too fear that's a bit too difficult. At any rate, you should download and install Paulo's SFS extractor:

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=16581.0 (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=16581.0)

then open various "fb_mapsXX.SFS", until you find maps of your interest. Process to make the mod is that I described in my previous message.

If you have installed Cyberolas' BURMA RRR repainted map, you could just open its folder and find the LOAD.ini file and in that find the "CAMOUFLAGE = CBI" line and change it to CAMOUFLAGE = DESERT.

You can do the same thing for the BurmaLower maps.

If you don't have those maps in your MODS folder then just download them and install them.  Then change CBI to DESERT and you will be able to have the Tropical Filters on Hurricanes.

It's normal !
In the game from the beginning no pilot Hurricane bears the mask!
For one simple reason: the code that allows the establishment of the mask does not exist!
This is true since the game ... and mods that were made then have not corrected this error!

Perhaps because no modder is interested to make a plane built in 3 copies and has never known the conflict!

If that was true, you would not have this issue.
How should anyone else but you know which mods you have installed that might cause this conflict?
It doesn't have to be a hurricane mod.
A prop mod would carry the same potential risk for instance.
