Title: South Ukraine ww2 map
Post by: CzechTexan on January 01, 2019, 03:14:48 PM
With permission from the original creator, mandrill7, I present the WW2 version of South Ukraine.
Download: https://www.mediafire.com/file/1wndipllnxwtttf/South_Ukraine_new_v2.zip/file
(revised map and updated link January 14, 2019)
If having problems saving missions, there is a discussion on page 2 (replies 13-22) which may help.
Also, try this new "actors" file which may help:  https://www.mediafire.com/file/y911i144tt392iq/actors_v3.zip/file

The original "Jet War" version is found here:  https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,30915.msg327088.html#msg327088

This new WW2 version updates the textures and airfields, adds some roads and railroads, and adds a few new towns.  Since this map is the westward extension of Oknevas' Donbass map, I tried to keep the textures looking similar.  Mandrill7 had also done a great job with the river system and coast so those textures remain almost the same.

Some of these map files are the same as in the Jet War version.
New files are "actors", map_T, text1950, loadww2.
If you already have the Jet War version, just drop the map files into the old folder and overwrite.
Textures go into the _Tex folder and can be added to the mandrill7 texture folder if you already have that.
Included is a notepad file which has the line of text to add to the all.ini file.

Credits go to mandrill7, oknevas, Mixx, vpmedia, uzin, and all other map-makers and template-makers whom I've borrowed from over the years.  Without all you, I would not have been able to accomplish anything.

Revised map Jan.14, 2019
Added Grigorievka.
Added the Perekop Trench (bridge over the trench is depicted as destroyed).

Added new airfields at Berislav, Skadovsk, Krasnoznamenka.
Added the hidden airfield in south Odessa city...

To takeoff, use the lower Runway object.  To make a landing, use the upper Runway object.  See Below...

In mid-September, Red Air Force airfields around Odessa were becoming in range of Romanian artillery so a new location was selected.  The choice was Chubayevka near Bolshoy Fontan railway station, not far from the center of Odessa.  The new airfield was built in ten days with the help of the local population.  Although narrow and short and surrounded by buildings, the auxiliary airfield reportedly served its purpose and the Soviets claimed it to have been undetected by Axis recon flights. [from Barbarossa to Odessa vol.2 p.157]
-I located Chubayevka and determined a satisfactory location for this airfield based on the description.

Thank you, my friends.  I just found a bug at the Nikolayev concrete airfield.  I believe it's a tree on the taxiway causing planes to lose a wing.  My Tree Objects are invisible when I play so I guess that's why I didn't notice it before.  Actually, I did not do much testing of the airfields - so, if anyone finds any more bugs, please let me know.  I'm going to make some small corrections and add a few small villages in the Gregorievka area so that we can have the Soviet landings there.

In my research for the battles on this map, I've found more airfields that may also be added.  There is mention of Germans using an airfield near Berislav for the Berislav bridgehead on the Dnepr River.  Does anyone have an opinion of where that airfield should be located?

Sorry, but I may have rushed publishing this map.  Look for some improvements in the near future.

Version 2 now available.  See new link in first post.

Thanks for an other interesting map !

Installed in BAT/WAW. Map loads fine, but can not save mission. 2 objects seem to be missing :

buildings.House$]SEchurch10
buildings.House$Hangar_04

after static.ini checker exam. Strangely, I have buildings.House$]SEchurch10 lines in my static.ini file, but still... strange !

Does anyone else have same problem ?

Possible to have them with their respective lines in static.ini ?

Thanks in advance !

PS : on version 1 of this superb map, I did not have this problem, strangely...

This is never ending trouble with this object:
buildings.House$]SEchurch10
The Il-2 engin obviously reads that squared bracket (above in red) wrong.
The best way is to remove/rename that line in static.ini and in actors.static (using Zuti actors management program).

Post by: Gaston on January 16, 2019, 01:34:57 PM
Funny thing is that this 2 times in my static.ini :

[buildings.House$]SEchurch10]
Title           SEchurch10
MeshLive        3do/Buildings/SouthernEurope/SEchurch10/live.sim
MeshDead        3do/Buildings/SouthernEurope/SEchurch10/dead.sim
AlignToLand     0
Body            RockMiddle
Panzer          0.2

[buildings.House$SEchurch10]
Title           SEchurch10
MeshLive        3do/Buildings/SouthernEurope/SEchurch10/live.sim
MeshDead        3do/Buildings/SouthernEurope/SEchurch10/dead.sim
AlignToLand     0
Body            RockMiddle
Panzer          0.2

Quite strange...

Anyway, I do not know how to do the correction in the actors.static... and buildings.House$Hangar_04 is missing too, and I do not see anything wrong in the name of it !
Title: Re: South Ukraine ww2 map

Back again...

For the buildings.House$Hangar_04, I found it here : https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,34490.msg514076.html#msg514076 (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,34490.msg514076.html#msg514076). It is part of Molva Hangars.

So only problem remaining is this famous buildings.House$]SEchurch10. It is mentionned in several places in the forum (search function), but I can't find a real solution to it... As I have this object 2 times in static.ini, I think it is just a question of modification to the actors.static... but this is something I really do not know...

EDIT

I have extracted the buildings.House$Hangar_04 from the BoM map (also the no 05...), aded it in the static.ini, and now, miracle... the map loads fine and the mission can be saved ! Seems problem is solved for me now ! Very strange, because static.ini checker still says that buildings.House$]SEchurch10 is missing...

I think there are two possible solutions.
First,
try to use former actors.static file, which obviously worked well. You will lost some objects, but the missions could be saved.
And second,
learn how to use Zutis actor management tool:

https://www.mediafire.com/file/akk2q3e7coe1qty/Zuti_ActorsMAnagement.rar/file (https://www.mediafire.com/file/akk2q3e7coe1qty/Zuti_ActorsMAnagement.rar/file)

or

https://www.mediafire.com/file/8hzwgdz37z7ybmm/Zuti_ActorsMAnagement.7z/file (https://www.mediafire.com/file/8hzwgdz37z7ybmm/Zuti_ActorsMAnagement.7z/file)

And last but not least,
ask politely  ;) the author of that version of the map to remove the mistake.

Good luck!

Have I been unpolite, Uzin ? I do not think so... or are you just a bit ironic ? ;) But you are right on one point : it would be very nice if author of the map makes the correction...

Hope he can do it ! I thank him in advance !

 ::( oh my.
I did not add too many objects to version 2 so I will go over the new ones and delete or replace the problem objects.
Please be patient.  I'll try to have it fixed in a day or two.  Until then you can use the old actors.
Title: Re: South Ukraine ww2 map
Post by: Gaston on January 16, 2019, 03:29:24 PM
Thanks for answer, CzechTexan. But, for BAT users, you do not have to delete objects...

Just add this :

https://uptobox.com/b19vigecsg2g (https://uptobox.com/b19vigecsg2g) which are Molva Hangars 4 & 5 missing... I included the lines for static.ini... I hope that will help !

And of course, the famous buildings.House$]SEchurch10 has maybe to be edited in the actors.static. That's all !

Sorry, it was a piece of my sense of black humor, lol.
That  bloody ]SEchurch10 was my problem quite recently, repeatedly.

If having problems saving then try this new actors file:  https://www.mediafire.com/file/y911i144tt392iq/actors_v3.zip/file

There must have been a glitch in the system because when I made version 2, I did not import any new objects.  I only copy/pasted from what was on the original map, which did work and save, as some of you mentioned above.  I only made two new towns and added four new airfields to version 2, so it wasn't much.

I looked at my static.ini file and found the INFAMOUS buildings.House$]SEchurch10
I deleted that ] and the map still saves missions - go figure.  :-|

Gaston, glad you found the Molva Hangars from BoM.  Way to go!  ;)

New actors file has helped.

And now General Staff can resume inspections of the fortifications around Perekop Trench.
So... where did they bury taxpayers monies?

This is a harbor scene I added to Ochakov for missions (but not part of static map objects).

..oh, men.. Ochakov harbor never looks like your vers in-real at 1941-1944..That was very little because of 2-3 m depths of the sea near the shore..
Here is a historical photo of Ochakov seaport  after the retreat of torpedo boats brigade in 1941:

Thanks for the photo.  On the map the harbor is blank.  I added harbor objects in the missions and I tried to make it look like the modern harbor as seen in Google maps.

Toobone is Black Sea expert, his advise is valid always.

Overall, common issue, isn't it.
For example, "infamous" Sevastopol's breakwaters copied by OM team from modern maps still remain on all Crimea maps as a sore in the eye... Completed maps, I mean.

In the photo, it seems like it is focused on the far-eastern-end of the harbor.  Look in the background - it seems there is more of the main harbor - but it's difficult to see.  Can this be verified?

Anyhow, I left the map's harbor empty of objects so users can populate it any way they want.

As you know, our respectable map-master, in tradition of IL2 rivers never named in stock map usually.. because of pilots must to know the battle area before takeoff.
