Title: The New Falklands/Malvinas Map.
Post by: SAS~Bombsaway on October 20, 2012, 02:33:26 PM
This is a map of the Falklands/Malvinas and the South Georgia islands. This map was cut out of the Atlantico Sur map so credit for this map goes to Baco and RealDarko for the original.

Credits...

Farang- For so much its hard to list it all. Spot texturing, airfields, coastal work and so much more.

Blumax- For cutting out this map, airfields, taxi and parking points for the AI planes, Teaching me unlocked FMB and constant moral support. :)

Agracier- For the Map ed. " The picture of the map before you zoom in to the map."

Install:

1- Place the BA_Falklands_Malvinas folder in your maps folder.

2- Place the BA_FalkMal folder in your _tex folder.

3- Add the all.ini entry to your all.ini in your maps folder.

4- Place the 3do folder in your MapMods "#DBW/MapMods/" folder so you will have two folders in there. The 3do folder ann the Maps folder.

5- Add the static.ini entry to your static.ini. Do a search in the static .ini for PCPPlate and place the new entry under that one.

I have also included a mod for new rusty metal runway plates because I would think because of the snow and ice and salt air it would rust out the metal plates that I would think they need there for traction. I need to work on them a bit more to make them look better but I'll post an update later.

(http://s19.postimage.org/8kgr3thgj/20_10_2012_17_59_01.jpg) (http://postimage.org/)

I have had so much help from some of the best mappers out there. I thank you all. Farrang, Blumax and Agracier. Without all of you and your help this map would have not been.

I am proud of how how I was able to get 90% or better no tile effect. There may be some but not a lot. I hope you all enjoy it.

Now with G's penguins...

UPDATE: I took a few minutes today to update the map. It only affects the South Georgia islands. Added more snow and some ice flows that I saw on google earth.

Credit for textures goes to Blumax.

Just replace the map folder and tex folder and thats it. :)

HiMark,

Just saw the link this morning.

Will definitely have a fly around this afternoon.

I see a number of changes you have made already especially the runway  matting.

I prefer your rusty matting   ;D :D

Easy Install Mark with the new plates  :D

Cheers

Thank you Kirby. You helped me out SO much. I hope the others will give it a try. I hope Baco and RealDarko will like it too. They did a great job with the original map so I hope I did this one to their standards. :) Also, it was Blumax who sent me a version of his matting and I made a different version with the rust so the credit goes to him for that. :)

Thanks Bombs!!!  8)

I don´t usually add maps because I am not that good modding my game, but this one I most definitely want!

I will love to fly in these islands as the brits and Argentinian did, moreover the South Georgia Islands are a must have it for me.

I am a big fan of Shackleton and would love to fly over "his" islands!!

Thanks again for your work!!

Another new IL2 great "world"-scenery to fly into... I'm pretty sure blacktails sqn will have some "A-4 Skyhawk" missions
over the area very soon...  ;)
Thank's for your work.

Edit : test flew it. Scenery looks far better in game than the above fotos can show... Good job!

WOW! Those look great. Thank you Thorsten. :) I see the large round fuel tanks on your South Georgia islands are white. They are supposed to be rusted. Do you need me to extract them from DBW and send them to you?

Hi Mark,

i didn't realize how steep and high the Southern Island was.

Now that I have flown on it your texturing is very very impressive  ;D

i guess being at sea level/coastlines most of the time not much chance to look up he he

If you do see any stray low or high blue triangles let me know.

Am sure I covered the Falklands and the southern island quite well.

Good Job Mark  :D

All of you did a good job, really!+
Mark, no thanks, I do not need a seperate download for the tanks, I tested this map on purpose in one of my older Histo gaming installs-my premium one.
Wanted to give that one honor as well for a change, after flying so much DBW and I also started to test some of my own few mods in the HistoMod testing install I use for the team.

Okey-dokey, time to hit the deck..lol..see ya..

Off topic (excuses.. :-[ )
Does anyone know if there is an L-39 version out with own pit?
I tried to install GJE52's latest mod, but assume I missed something since it crashed.
Anyway, my only point is the pits as I sort of am a cockpit nerd so I never fly planes without their own pits and no, no intention to blow this off-topic and yes, I cannot mod sht with 3D, so this is only a humble question since I love the look of the various L-39 versions. :)
Kudos to all 3D guys-really.

And Mark, of course I like the map, installed it in DBW and Histo, assume I'll even like the bigger map more since I like long trips. :)
The texturing is 1st class!

Off topic off.. :D

Well the original size.. it´s 1.2. I was planing a 1.1 but then I wondered who would actually fluy 90 minutes to traget and 90 back, so I went with 1.2 and played with the distance to the islands, so the Land is actually 1.2 in size but the islands are a lot closer to the continent than in reality. Still its a good 30 min from a continental base to the islands, from either Rio Gallegos or San Julian doing arround 350kph.. Now with Modern Jets you might cruise at 600 knots an have a good 15 min to the islands still.
I also broght the Georgias a big deal closer than in real life.. in reality, the Georgias could be consider  atotally different Theater of operations... And of course brough Antartida closer too, so you dont have to sit 180 minutes to get there, even at 1.2 scale.. Again it takes for ever to get there in a DC 3 (C  47) jejejeje... The Airforce actually hada C 47s flown to marambio At Antartitda.... Now That did require a pair of brass ones..  Still we onlly lost one neptune on Antartic operations....

if you like chalenges, try a dead recon flight from Usuahia to Marambio or The chilean Airstrip at king George island...

It's clear that this kind of map is to enjoy simply flying. But you still can have some jet action over the Islands.

I would like to ask you guys one thing... do you see any tile effect? I need to know because I worked my tail off to get rid of that and need your resonse to find any problems that I can work on for the other map and future projects. I'm not trying for a pat on the back. I really want to improve the work.

Great map.

When flying over South Georgia just turn your weather down to maximum nasty and you will be near as you can get to a good day on the islands. Rain, Hail, Snow, vis down to zero, sea state violent, more rain and extra snow with lumpy bits in it, on the good days.

The snow cover on the ground is probably a little bit thicker than shown on the map but I would not change that any more, it looks good and with weather settings on lowest it works just fine.

I have one complaint about the South Georgia portion of this map.  Try as I might, I can't find one damn penguin!  The trailers for this project lead me to believe that there would be plenty of penguins!  LOL.    I've been enjoying this map.

Well you see.... as I had to hand paint those islands I would sometimes become frustrated and I admit I may have kicked a few penguins untill I didnt see anynore but then one was standing there with its back to me and I had been having a bad day so I kicked it square in its butt. It turned out to be a nun at the church there and she beat the crap out of me with her yard stick. :)

Don't worry red spade

A little request from me for work done on the map .

Also hoping for virus infected zombified penguins too he he.

Mark WOW hand painting  ;D

I've never really attempted that on a map and I know and can be tedious and to the point that you can't see any more.

Your now a true master in texturing  ;D :D

You'll be high up in the ranks with Blumax, Redko etc.

I love this map because of the realistic textures and lack of obvious tiles. Well done Bombs   :)

Agracier, Kirby, Blumax, Redko and so many more that I cant name them all. Those guys are the great ones. I'm just learning. There are no icebergs in the south atlantic, since Antartida is actually a continent hence it does not porduce icebergs...

What are you talking about? It does. The iceberg is a broken off part of an ICE SHELF or a GLACIER. The whole continent is covered by a giant glacier which expands from the center of continent in all directions. Plus we got Ross Ice Shelf and, exactly to the south from this map, Filchner Ice Shelf. The Antarctica actually produces much more icebergs than Arctic. The only big glacier, which can produce icebergs in North is on Greenland.

On the South there is the Antarctic Circumpolar Current, which may intercept icebegs before they could reach the area of this map. However it doesn't mean there are no icebergs on Southern Ocean at all.

I satand corected!  :-[

But they are not as common or come down north as much as its northern counterparts.

I have lots of friends sailing down at Tierra del Fuego, and arround Cape Honr and Icebergs are never a concern.
And you can imagine that in a 30 ft sailboat, a small iceberg can really ruin your day...

Would be great, specially a 1982's look (Puerto Argentino airfield and town) if we keep in mind Mirage III will be here soon  :D San Carlos Bombs Alley, even with A-4 Skyhawks will be soon around if july's deadline is accomplished by the modder, as he said.

Would be great to have at least a small portion of land, Argentina  i mean, with 1 AF so we can have bombing missions with Argentine Air Force planes taking off from the continent, as it really was.

Anyway, those are just few personal thoughts. Thx for your work mate.

Hey, testing this map in my 4.12.2 Modact, Jetwar, etc.

Loads fine, but will not save missions. I have tried everything I can think of. I did notice that I cant find any of the supposed metal plates, which are shown in the images, though they do show up in the objects list just fine.. any ideas??

EDIT: found the plates, and they work but still it doesn't load

1- Place the BA_Falklands_Malvinas folder in your maps folder.

2- Place the BA_FalkMal folder in your _tex folder.

3- Add the all.ini entry to your all.ini in your maps folder.

4- Place the 3do folder in your MapMods "#DBW/MapMods/" folder so you will have two folders in there. The 3do folder ann the Maps folder.

5- Add the static.ini entry to your static.ini. Do a search in the static .ini for PCPPlate and place the new entry under that one.

I know its been a long time but I have been doing a little update to this map and wanted to know if anyone was still using this map? I'm just adding a different texture for the airfield slot and extending the runways of the middle airstrip fow multible jets or large planes to be able to have enough runway to take off.
If people are still interested I may do more. Just let me know.

Hi Bombsaway

I like the map and i'm using it!
i'd like to create a some single mission based on the falklands conflict when i will have some spare time and more experience with FMB...actually i started something, but got stuck.

if i may suggest some changes, i think that the base in Port Stanley should look more like an airport suitable for jets and big planes; the other two (BAM Condor at Goose Green and NAS Calderon at Pebble Island) were grass airstrips operated by smaller planes like the pucara's.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argentine_air_forces_in_the_Falklands_War#Argentine_Air_Force

But i understand that for gameplay and fun reasons is better to have tree bases with concrete runways.

Thank you very much for your work and the passion you share!
 ;D ;D

Hi Raven80. I will be keeping the concrete runways for just as you said the game play of it but I may in time release a second version having the two other airstrips as grass for historical fact. With all the new jets we have the three concrete airstrips work better for users of the map.

If you like though I can post a link to the Unlocked FMB tool and you could work on this map to make the other strips grass and keep for yourself or release it here. All my work is free and I have no problem if someone uses it or improves on it and release thier version.
Title: Re: The New Falklands/Malvinas Map.
Post by: max_thehitman on March 02, 2017, 11:48:39 AM
May I make a suggestion?
Keep everything Historial.

If the airfield is of grass, then it should be grass.
There are jets that use grass airfields too, but since we have concrete runways already included, I say,
keep everything historical.
Besides that, the Harrier jet does not need a runway. It lifts up like a helicopter.

By the way, I recall many months back seeing a screenshot of an early British Harrier (not the AV-8b Harrier II).
Anyone know of this 3d-model and if its still being worked on?
It may come from Aviaskins ?

Anyway, time to go shoot some pinguins with a Harrier jet  :D

Your right Max. I could go with grass. Although when I looked a google earth today it shows an air field in the middle of the islands but when you zoom in, there is nothing there. If anyone could post some pics or maps of the area back then it would help me out a lot.

In QMB you need to save the Mission with the name of the map. Such as  BA_Falkland_MalvinasRedScramble01.
If it won't save then you need to find out what object you are missing.

This map looks many objects and textures borrowed from elder maps or Object packs.
But no listed up what maps or object packs are used.
No information in the 1st post for standalone game players what related mods / maps to be installed.
Only reading and following the 1st post, never success about standalone games.

I think .....
The time of downloading and installing B.A.T. and updating to latest patch v3.3 Pathfinder ...... is much shorter than .....
the time of searching and collecting and installing all required objects / maps to make this map working correctly on a standalone game.

I am running IL2 1946 in version 4.12.2m with VP Modpack and the Jetwar addon.

I followed the instructions to install the Falkland map:

1- Place the BA_Falklands_Malvinas folder in your maps folder.

2- Place the BA_FalkMal folder in your _tex folder.

3- Add the all.ini entry to your all.ini in your maps folder.

4- Place the 3do folder in your MapMods "#DBW/MapMods/" folder so you will have two folders in there. The 3do folder ann the Maps folder.

5- Add the static.ini entry to your static.ini. Do a search in the static .ini for PCPPlate and place the new entry under that one.

However, in the game it will only appear in the Full Mission Builder if I am using the VP Modpack.

If I run the Jetwar addon, the map will simply not appear in the map list and never shows up in the Quick Mission Builder.

Any idea how this can be fixed?  :(
Title: Re: The New Falklands/Malvinas Map.
Post by: Hubberranz on October 28, 2018, 06:39:58 AM
Maps not appearing in Quick Mission builder is simple:  missions in there are not maps although grouped as maps in their titles: they are special missions made for that map and for quick use.

So adding a new map does not produce these Quick missions.

I went to post 1 and found that this is an UPDATE to an existing map, plus new metal plates objects, and penguins object.
I do not see any entries for steps 3 and 5. in the UPDATE download.

If you already have the original map, then the update is fine. If not install map THEN update:

OK Map is available in first post below "90%".        #dbw proposed is obsolete; think of it as your vp mod file; anyway, mapmods file is inside it.

1- u must have the map installed.
2- u update the map.

Note that missing objects prevent maps from saving. All objects are needed otherwise maps shows but do not save as missions.

3- I made a simple basic mission NONE and copied it 18 times. ( Note 2 of them are just demo ).

4- You can edit missions as you wish and save; delete resulting properties files.

5- rules: do not change missions names; do not change flights names. One missing flight becomes a bug.
Do not select new specific aircrafts in FMB: these must remain blue or red generics and be all the same, as provided.
U can select any aircrafts in QMB proper, as usual.

update: way to go is to add take-off way points, landing way points, bombing of targets if required: all according to the type of mission's needs.
However if you select all flights to ground attack, this will curtail air to air combat. I humbly suggest to assign bombing to flights 2-1 to 2-4 and
air combat to 1-1 to 1-4, althought you will also consider flight 1-1 of your player at times, as U also will want to engage in some form of serious
groud attack missions yourself. It is possible to be more offensive or defensive per side ( red versus blue ). Populate the mission for targets ( like ships ).
You can edit speed, altitude and formation at waypoints, as well as type of landings. I found setting altitude is useless, because altitude is set in QMB,
but speed will be vitally important to jets, while disliked by slower oldies revving and trembling at high speeds.

Ok, noted.

But where is the original map available if not in this post?

It is in Post 1. My bad. I have edited my post : search "90%" in first post and it is just below.

May be you have it already. After, you install the penguins and next you update the install with update download.

I have edited my post and added fake missions, making "map" appear in QMB.
