Title: Biscay Map is Downloadable
Post by: agracier on May 04, 2010, 07:18:25 AM
Biscay

https://www.mediafire.com/?yewzzktndz5 (https://www.mediafire.com/?yewzzktndz5)

This is a request map, from the Czechoslovak Virtual Squadron. Their idea from the start. Standard textures were used to make the map.

Populating of towns, cities, villages, harbors, airfields etc and roadwork was done by RAF 310/311 czechoslovak virtual squadron (311_Tjurma, 311_Rampa, 310_Crowley).

I only made a basic map using standard West European textures. The main work was one by the Czech Virtual Squadron.

In fact, cooperation went so smoothly, that other maps will certainly follow. Just have to figure out which ones to choose.

What is the scale ?
Title: Re: Biscay Map is Downloadable
Post by: agracier on May 04, 2010, 07:59:07 AM
What is the scale ?

Uhhh ... it is either 1/1 or a teensy bit smaller. Normally I use 1pixel = 50m in Microdem for the map creation, which is 1/1 for an Il-2 map.

But sometimes the area can be so large that Microdem memory can't handle the translation into full sized DEMs. Then I choose 1pixel = 55m, which is almost negligible a difference (except for the memory in Microdem apparently).

Since it is such a large area I would surmise that I used 1pixel=55m, so it could be a bit smaller than 1/1 ... but not by much ...

Nope, no Paris ... it's out of bounds for morally minded combat men anyway. Clean in body, heart and soul and all that don't you know ... ha ha.

But seriously, it didn't fit into the scale of the map, which was large enough already ...

Please don't forget, the hard work of populating and fixing all the mistakes with roads and airfields and such, that credit goes to the Czech Virtual Squadron ... they did a good job of coordinating everything and finishing the job.

And they came up with the idea for the map in the first place ...

Need I do something different for this map if my setup is only SAS, no UP or HFSX?
It loaded and came up fine in FMB (and LOOKS ABSOLUTELY GREAT!) but I'm unable to save missions.
Any ideas where I went wrong?

First, thanks all involved for this. Second, keep in mind that th Il-2 world is square, so there is no such thing as 1:1 with a round earth. Your scale may even be slightly more realistic.

Yeah me too, any help for us non UP users - it looks as if this is the same problem I had with Cannons Channel map when there were some objects in the map that I didn't have.....
Title: Re: Biscay Map is Downloadable
Post by: agracier on May 04, 2010, 04:10:59 PM
I didn't do the populating on this one, but I would guess it's one of the Usual Suspects as culprit - Canons Channel Objects Mod, lal_Rones Fortification mod -hangar mod ... one of those.

Try out checking what you are missing with the static.ini checker ... usually generates a list of objects that are in the map, but not in your own static.ini.

That can give you an idea what you're missing. Ask here where those objects can be found. Someone will usually recognize them...

Here's a link for the static.ini checker:
https://www.mediafire.com/?ytwnkhqlhnk (https://www.mediafire.com/?ytwnkhqlhnk)

And a link for Cannon's Channel Objects - the objects only, NOT his map:
https://www.mediafire.com/?dyyjnkg1hoy (https://www.mediafire.com/?dyyjnkg1hoy)

THANK YOU AT ALL THE MAPS BUILDERS :-*

several important airfields are missing :-[
like the Lahn Bihoue (near Lorient)
Pluguffan (near Quimper)
Dinan Trelivan
or Tremuson (near Saint Brieuc)

and Le mont Saint-Michel:P

NB: it is not "Ploermet" but "Ploermel"
not "Carentec" but "Carantec"
the Breizhoneg (Little Britain language) is difficult!

I have got Cannons working after chasing my tail looking for the objects when it first came out ....  :(

I also have the hangar and fortification mods   ... so was a little surprised when this happened. It must be somthing that is in the UP (as I don't use that - just a patched and SAS Mod version).

I will check with the static ini checker though - many thanks for pointing me to it.

the Breizhoneg (Little Britain language) is difficult!

It's easy to edit the names. All you need do is open the 'texts.txt' file in the map folder with any simple text editor (notepad will work fine) and then correct the mistaken spellings with the correct spellings. Save as if a txt file (which it is!) and voila, when next the map is loaded, you'll have the correct spellings ...

The texts.tx file is in itself a bit small and insignificant to give a separate update for ...

As for airfields - I suppose choices were made ... there are already a good number of fields on the map and making airfields is a bit of painstaking job ...

Here is the results of the static ini checker

Missing objects in your static.ini:

buildings.House$semi2.... etc

Edited by GJE52 to save space ....

to...
buildings.Plate$Rennes15
buildings.Plate$Rennes14

That is a serious collection of missing bits - have I missed an update somewhere - any ideas ?

Definitely Cannons objects.

Some time ago Agracier was very kind to put a link up for Cannons Object file.

It's pretty big around 250 to 300 mb in size but having it as a separate object file
saves a lot of problems.
I see Agracier has done that again for us here.

Thanks Agracier.

I think that there are a number of full airfield objects that are not in the mod pack i put up the link for ... these are individual airfields ... see what you can do with the pack I linked, and if you can't save the map after installing these, then perhaps you should run the static.ini checker again to see what is perhaps missing.

Post these should you encounter any. I'll then see what I can do with another additional pack of objects ...

Hello,all thank for this map.

I'm live near La Rochelle and the Ré Bridge was built in 1988. So it couldn't be on the map during WW2.
Is it possible to modifie the file statics?

Don't forget it was the Czech Virtual Squadron's idea to make the map and their diligence in researching airfields and placing the objects in towns, villages, cities and harbors and so on ... without them it would never have been made ...

Thank You  at all involved persons  !!

The "battle over the bay" was one of the hardest fought (unfortunately a lot of guys don`t know that) aircombats of the war. Now we can replay the fights.   :)

Perhaps now someone will create Liberator GR`s (or Sunderlands   dream) for completings the arsenal of planes who tooked part  ;)

again: Thank You

Hi, Agracier. Thank you very much for your last map, Biscay map. I like very much.

But I have thought if its possible to make another map, like I/JG27 Waggel's North Sea map, as you can see in this link "http://www.allaircraftarcade.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9632", but using a smaller scale, of course. With a map like that using a smaller scale we would get shorter missions in time and the game will go faster. I know is a difficult job and requires a lot of time. Could you make a map like that, please? It's a map that IL-2 community miss it.
Thanks again.
Regards.

The Biscay map was a request by a team of gamers (Czech Virtual Squadron) who were prepared to do the populating of objects and airfield research - all time consuming things that I am not very good at really.

I'm always willing to entertain interesting ideas for maps, since I never would have thought of Biscay on my own ... I'm more prone to sideshows of sideshows operations and forgotten wars and such.

So if anyone or group is willing to seriously undertake a map, I'm always open to suggestions ... just one thing about maps though and that's that I really prefer to do 1/1 scale maps ...

Thanks a lot to you and all the people that made this possibly. It is interesting to note that there are still quite a group of "Forgotten Battles", and as I can see, you are riding the wave crest, and fast, to make the corresponding Maps (three or four Maps a month?) :o.

Thanks again and keep walking (mean Flying) :D

to make the corresponding Maps (three or four Maps a month?) :o.

Ha ha ... it just seems that way because a bunch of maps are all coming to term around the same time, maps I started on in the autumn of last year or before, or request maps that other teams/members have been completing ... or else retex maps which are little work compared to starting out on a fresh project ...

I'd expect maybe 1, 2 or maybe 3 more maps and then from June on till September not much, if anything ... I'll be gone during that time with only a laptop to work on and irregular Internet ... maybe one of the team effort maps might get done during that time, but that depends on things beyond my reckoning ...

So take 'em as they come ...

Thx agracier. I downloaded, install it, but still no fix. This is what came instead:
my problem is more serious than I thought...

No, it's not serious at all. These objects are the airfield objects from Canon's Channel Map ... note, they are not objects such as hangars or fueltanks or such, but rather objects that are used as textures to simulate an airfield ... since there are not enough texture slots to give enough variation in textures, some modder make objects that can be placed as a whole airfield ... more or less.

In any case, these are from Cannon's Channel Map and while the list is long, all are from the same pack.

I have CAN_Objects too...I don't know how this happened...

These things happen ... besides, I know that there is a pack of Cannon's Channel Objects without the airfields, those you are missing. Normally these airfields wouldn't be used in other maps since they represent actual airfields, but here in Biscay there is overlapping terrain and similarities that justify the re-use of these airfields ...

Yes. I downloaded from this link https://www.mediafire.com/?dyyjnkg1hoy (https://www.mediafire.com/?dyyjnkg1hoy) and the "fields" folder is missing. Indeed, there is a fields folder in the GilB57 mod (here: http://www.allaircraftarcade.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22206&highlight=canons+airfields (http://www.allaircraftarcade.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22206&highlight=canons+airfields) ) but since it uses it own field folder, there is of no use. I wish I could find the full version of canon UK objects, AAA forum is a mess....

The full version is quite large ... most file sharing sites have file size limits for free accounts, usually around 100mb for people who don't wish to pay for the service. I would suppose that Cannon's Objects were split up for that reason, also mainly because the airfields were meant to be very specific for use on that map ...

And in new packs like UP2.0 or HSFX I think these objects are embedded in sfs files ... there is no need to manually install them. But they are also virtually invisible so to speak and hard to get at should you ever need them ... like for instance to put together a file for sharing by a fellow modder in need ...

I have UP2.0 so I can't readily upload a link to these objects ... but if you can't get hold of them, I'll see what I can do, though I can't promise getting them out of the sfs files

OK ... now I don't know what happens if you make double entries into your static.ini, so check carefully if you already have Canon's Objects already installed and you only need his airfields ...

Maybe it will not make any difference, or maybe it will. I have no experience with this ... so check and double check and make enough backups before starting ...

thx to  Fisneaky flag & transport mod I don't have any missing objects in my static.ini, but STILL I cannot save a mission...any ideas? I have the same problem with the CAN English channel map as I discovered.

UPDATE: Airfield textures are not appearing on map. I re-installed from the beginning the english channel map without the 4 seasons mod, again the same problem.

New Version Download link:

The following changes were made:

- file with map renamed agcz_Biscay
- bridge La Rochelle Ile de Re removed
- taxi points adjusted
- Morlaix and Harrowbeer airfields moved a little (trees or disapearing rwy)
- St Peter Port and St Helier built on Channel Islands
- textures under airfileds corrected
- Ploermel and Carantec corrected in texts
- 2d map corrected

Here is the link:

https://www.mediafire.com/?yewzzktndz5 (https://www.mediafire.com/?yewzzktndz5)

make backups of all files that will otherwise be overwritten, then allow overwriting of existing files with the newer versions.

Luft_Wooden_Hangar : object n° 633 - Title House Pacific

FlagSwastika : object n° 1107 - Title FISneaky House Pacific

These three objects are included in the pack UP2.01 !

Ok it seems I have this issue with most maps as I run the SAS Mod only. I was hoping the objects were available seperately somewhere. I would really like to fly this map, my father left was a Radar Tech with 307 Squadron based at Exeter airport (where I still live) although not flight crew, he did make test flights for air-air radar in Mosquito Night Fighters, would be kinda poignant to take off from Exeter Airport in a Mossie. If I d/l the whole of UP would I be able to find the objects and instal seperately?

Thank you for helping, unfortuanately, there 3 shown were only examples of a list of about a 100, I'm d/l the entire Canon Channel map, in the hope I can find them all, and figure out how to transfer the files I need.

Once again thanks for helping, it's much appreciated. S!

After much stessing and fretting and an unending search for missing objects, I eventually bit the bullet d/l and installed UP, and have just flown over my house in Exeter :)

You do need BOOMERS --Objects ,Textures and His static.ini .
I loaded this map and I have only his objects loaded and the map loads and saves...
Use the search to find what you need....

Good Luck.
