Title: Banff-Narvik Map
Post by: SAS~Bombsaway on January 15, 2019, 06:42:13 PM
After MANY years this map is finally ready for download. This map was passed down through many different hands until it came to Ragnathor who shared it with me. We decided to work on it and get it released so others may enjoy it. It's been sitting too long.

This map is based on an original by agracier for a clean and current BAT install with expansion packs up to 3.5 Musketeers.
It is a very large map featuring the Nordland and Lofoten regions of Norway and the Northeast region of Scotland.

From the original this map has been expanded 350km West of Norway and now includes a small area of Scotland, the whole landscape and coastlines have been remodelled, re- textured and re-populated to create what is now a huge map.

It is not historically, geographically or geologically correct but the important areas such as Narvik, the docks at Peterhead, RAF Banff, RAF Peterhead and FAA Rattray have been faithfully constructed as far as possible from period photos.
The roads have been laid by hand and all vehicle waypoints must be set manually.

Please be aware that this is a very large and very detailed map using 2048 x 2048 textures and will play with different results on different machines and different graphics cards etc.

This map was made using BAT. If you don't have BAT, I can't help you with missing objects or textures. You will have to use the tools here on the SAS to locate the objects or textures you may be missing with older versions.
It's not impossible to do so.

So, without further delay...….

Any negative comments of whom may have worked on this map before Ragnathor and I came to work on it will be deleted.

Our only hope is that everyone will accept this map as a gift that many people have worked on and took so many hours, days, weeks and months out of their lives to give something to the community.

Ragnathor sent me a link to some of the objects that some may be missing.

Hello guys, I realise this map was made in BAT and for that install, however, on trying it in a normal 5.30 ModAct version I found I was unable to find quite a few objects, these are still missing:

buildings.House$englishcityblockNWE
buildings.House$GroundCrew_WW2_Luft6
buildings.House$GroundCrew_WW2_Luft4
buildings.House$GroundCrew_WW2_Luft2
buildings.House$]SEchurch10

The church is a old issue that I thought I had dealt with, however, the others I have not a clue where they originate from and have searched all threads I can think of, do any of you know if they are new objects I missed or old ones renamed for BAT?

Any help would be really appreciated, nothing worse than a map I cannot test except in a mod pack. :(

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

This is absolutely stunning! I particularly like the mining operations just outside Evenes, which just about sums up the incredible attention to detail on this map ... and what can I say about the install instructions - clear, precise and foolproof.

Thanks to Ragnathor, Bombsaway and to all who may have contributed in any way to this map.

Let's start at the beginning. Are you using BAT?
Title: Re: Banff-Narvik Map

Very beautiful screenshots of fantastic map!
But helas, I cannot use it in my 4.13.4 version with SAS Modact 6.4. I thought I had all objects available, but after checking I found that I miss more than one hundred ones for this map. And other errors like
WARNING: TGAFile_LoadTexture('maps/_tex/norge/banff_narvik/norgewoodfloor_fields.BumpH')-Bump loading problem
[16:35:17]   INTERNAL ERROR: Can't open file 'MAPS/_Tex/TBN1bVH.tga'
[16:35:17]   INTERNAL ERROR: LoadTextureFromTga('MAPS/_Tex/TBN1bVH.tga')

This beautiful map is for BAT and that's it!
There is another Narvik map, which is also beautiful, but I have the runway problem, namely they are not smooth. That map should be used with friction mod, which is incompatible with my 4.13.4 version. Helas. So interesting missions would be made with these two beautiful maps!

Hello again guys, the links provided found the rest of the objects I needed, thank you very much, really appreciated. 8)

Unfortunately even though I have the object in game and have tried various entries this still will not allow the map to save.

Missing objects in your static.ini:

buildings.House$]SEchurch10

This really is messing with my head, how is it possible to have the object and yet it will not save even with alternate entries, what am I not seeing?

Anyway, I give up, thank you again for the help, it really is a lovely map from what I have seen in the fmb. ;)

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

In the missing objects readme it is said that buildings.House$]SEchurch10 comes with spelling mistake and should be buildings.House$SEchurch10. Then it will work!

You are more lucky than me, your map will work)) :D

Hi, Pete,
the bloody line

buildings.House$]SEchurch10

is present not only in static. ini file (where it may be repaired simply in notepad), but. what is much worse, also in actors.static of a map. There it must be repaired using Zuti's actors  management tool.

I hope this should be made sticky by admins, for all mapmakers!

I think it would be much better if the author(s) of the map will repair this bug

Map will not save in FMB, therefore cannot play.

Added missing stuff to static.ini + fixed the church entry. No luck.

I am, however, running CUP. Even so, the .log file says nothing about missing statics...

Download the two media fire files shown in the opening of this thread. However, I notice there are multiple static ini entries in the Banf-Narvik download, but not accompanying 3D0 files. Is this correct? Thank you for uploading this, Bombs. It's a great area and the screen shots look tasty.

Press shift / tab and the game will give you an error message of what you have missing.

If the game will not open, it's almost certainly a load.ini error. You are probably missing a tex or a map file.

I dont have VP's version installed but you could try to remove the bump H files its naming and then make sure you have the clouds noise texture in the folder.

Tried this in HSFX and got many missing objects. WxTechs technique fixed all... but that SEchurch10 is not fixable. Found that object and placed to mods folder, tried various names wit/without typo but failed save mission. I have read grizzlion topics and answers how fix it, but no joy. So I have map with working church object, I can place it on map but static ini checker and other program tells me that church 9bject is still missing.

Is somewhere version without that SEchurch10 object please?

Hello Mark, after what seems to have been forever I finally got this gorgeous map to save. :o

It was not the church object after all but a farmer. o_O

Seems I did not have this in the right place and only found out because it showed up in the log, not the checker:

[buildings.House$civilian_farmer1]
Title           civilian_farmer1
MeshLive        3do/Buildings/Troops/Civilian/civilian_farmer1/live.sim
MeshDead        3do/Buildings/addobjects/Human_01/dead.sim
AlignToLand     0
Body            FuelSmall
Panzer          0.005

I set it up as so and all was well:

[buildings.House$civilian_farmer1]
Title           civilian_farmer1
MeshLive        3do/Buildings/Civilian/civilian_farmer1/live.sim
MeshDead        3do/Buildings/addobjects/Human_01/dead.sim
AlignToLand     0
Body            WoodSmall
Panzer          0.005

I had a set of repaints from Max that has the first entry, as does a pack from you of missing objects for the map, I borrowed the object and put it in a folder of its own and changed to the second entry, now its okay and saves. ;)

This in my 4.12.2 ModAct 5.30 install.

Take care and be safe.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

I'm glad you got it working. It would seem over the years and re packs of things that folder names/pathways  have been messed with. Thanks for posting in case someone else has the same issue.
