Title: Douglas P-70 Nighthawk
Post by: Geschirr on March 16, 2019, 10:12:08 AM
I enjoy night fighters very much in IL-2.  One that is sorely missing, and often overlooked is the P-70 Nighthawk.
I have tried using the RAF A-20BostonMkIIIS (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,14096.msg148510.html#msg148510)
as a stand in, but I can't get over the rear gunner.  My request is to have the rear gunner station completely fared/covered over with glass and have that station turned into a radio station similar
to the P-61 mods (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,19033.msg204798.html#msg204798). A 20mm cannon gondola underneath and radar antenna would be nice, but not necessary.
I just hate that rear gunner.

Thank you,

Nice! I don't play a lot the A-20 but this nightfighter version is very interesting
I'd like to see it one day  :)

So a P-70 was created at some point in time?

The old Mod GJE speaking about I remember, but actually came too late to grab a copy at the time.
Would be nice to have it back...

I found some of the basic 3d work amongst my old archives,  but sadly not the mod itself... I did this in 2013 ...  :-|

I had obviously started work on the the combination of the A20 G and C fuselages here to get the right shape. Perhaps I could redo and update this one, when I can find some time..  :-X

Thanks for the replies GJE52! Looks great, even has the gondola! That would be great if it was converted over, whenever or if ever you find the time of course.
Thanks again for the update and insight :)

Makes me think... was the Turbinlite a version of the P-70 ?

No, that was a British thing, same air frame, different models/years/air force/theater...
