Post by: panzerkeil on January 31, 2013, 07:45:26 AM: With so many high quality mod(ded) maps I feel there are many airfields that don't get the attention they deserve. So let's share these gems here: post a screen if you come around an odd/beautiful/well laid out/remarkable airfield in IL2. Please also post the name of the map and a location.

I never really noticed the beauty in those airfields. I love to see those little details and object in the maps.

All map-makers should start posting their map pictures of airfields in here , so people can see the beauty
in the map. Its Landscape ART!

I like the 352 Cross Channel map but mine is not populated like yours which puts a damper on flying the map. Last I heard, some time ago, there was a project to populate the map with objects but everytime I check their web site, no activity is indicated. How did you get this map with all those wonderful objects?

Post by: kaxII on February 11, 2013, 10:44:53 AM: My Favourite airfield does not have a pic as I made it in DMV 4 years ago :( (it was made with a stationary airfield) and it had concrete runways on bridges used as pillars of the edge of a mountain, it also had bridges to make a roof over half of it, and I would fly jets of it and shoot down b-17's like a secret german mountain base in 1946 8)

I never flew over that one. That looks incredible! Looks like the real thing. Great map!

I think they are houses for army people.
No concentration camp or POW camp cause I miss the barbed wire fences/ watch towers or anything like that.

Post by: Blumax on February 13, 2013, 06:16:28 AM: Crikey! is that old Online 8 map still floating around! my first map and my only ever release, it was a complete disaster from start to finish and a real embarresment, just days after it was released it was never heard of again and infact this is the first time that i've ever head it mentioned or seen a screenshot posted of it anywhere!.....perhaps we should do the decent thing and send it where it it belongs.......oblivion!

It was because of this disaster that i never released another one!

Might as well leave it up i guess, i've re-linked it. ;)

It's crazy how you can spend alot of time working on a map until you are happy with it and convinced yourself that it looks nice only to revisit it years later with more experienced eyes and then with your first glance write the whole thing off as a mess but now that i've seen it again i kind of have an affection for it and i might even give it a darn good makeover.

Aleutians map got whacked by a multi-delete when i threw a big girlie, childish temper tantrum that i sooooooooooooo regret, the only hope for this map is that Helen might have a sneaky copy in her secret box of goodies that she keeps hidden from me in case of just such an event......fingers crossed. :)

That was exactly my sentiment for starting this thread. No matter how beautiful and realistic the planes are\have become\will become in Il2; without those beautiful maps and airfields it is much less fun to fly them.

So: amen to SAS~Gerax!! :D :D

Post by: crazyeddie on January 03, 2014, 12:54:35 PM: Sadly not possible, they are somebody elses maps that I have butchered to create these, and I could not give them out without the owners permission. I'm not even sure who created some of the originals I used in the making of them. I have created about six different maps in various themes, Mountain, Desert, Island, WW1, WW2, Modern.

Plus you would need all the Mods that I have in my Game Folder to make them work, different building and ground plate textures, different heights of various things to get the effects I wanted, changed around ground texture plates within the maps, textures copies from other maps, static objects changed around. To do all that you would end up with my maps working but all your other maps would be borked.

It does show you what you can do with this game though, the possibilities are almost endless if you have time and patience.
