Gloster F5/34 "Guardian"
The Gloster F.5/34 was a British fighter of the 1930s. It was a single-seat, single-engine monoplane of all-metal cantilever construction; the undercarriage was of the tailwheel type with retractable main units.
It was developed in response to, and named after Air Ministry Specification F.5/34, for a fighter armed with eight machine guns and using an air-cooled engine that was well-suited to operations in the tropics.Gloster's design was overtaken by more capable competitors and the Specification was later abandoned, with no aircraft being selected.
This is Bill Holkers FSX/Fs2004 Gloster F5/34 so I make no claim to building or ownership of this. I merely adapted it for use in IL-2 by baseing it on SAS~Riken's Fulmar MKI which is available here https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,13474.0.html thanks.
I've added the skin folder with a skin to start with and I will be posting a template in that section as well
I am again asking that this "NOT" be used in anyone else's youtube videos as I plan to make my own. Thanks.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone. :)
I'm happy to hear that this is working in other game versions as well. Means more people can enjoy this too.l
It would have been interesting to have seen how this would have fared in actual combat had it gone into production indeed.
Anyways thanks again all,
Adamo

What folder, and where exactly did you put it in both please? I put it in WAW3, and no dice.

Thanks again for all the comps and you're all very welcome.
I am happy to hear of all the game versions this is working in. Thanks for sharing your findings. ;D
Not sure what to tell you David. I have mine installed in Bat 3.4 #WAW3 and it's workin fine there.

P.s I'm sure Dad is looking down smiling and is as proud of me as I am of him.

I've waited a long time for three planes: P-66 Vanguard P-43 Lancier and this Gloster F-5/34. It is a beautiful machine with interesting possibilities - underestimated by "wise men" from the RAF. Where did the name "Guardian" come from? In any photo, the prototypes do not have a landing hook. Was there a draft of such a version?
-
Hi Rector,
Bill Holkers made two models of the F.5/ 34. One was called "Guardian" and the other was " Sea Guardian". I have no idea why he called them that but it seemed fitting to me so I left it at that.
As to the hook I noticed in a few other mod threads that some members would ask for naval versions after a mod was released so I thought I'd beat them to the punch. :D

What a beautiful mod!! Thanks for creating it, and thanks for bringing this piece of history into the game.
-
WUNDERBAR, wonderful!
Thank very much.
Best regards, Gerhard :D

This beautiful plane copes well against Bf-109D - even against several opponents

and despite the damage he returns to the base as a winner.
Good machine - although it lacks the engine's power when compared to the P-36 Hawk. Thank you.

P.S. Is there a chance for such a skin?

I am really excited about this plane, which it turned out to be really excellent. I want to ask about the FM, how well it's worked out. This one is so much better than the hurricane. It's now a mystery to me why the brits didn't put the "Guardian" into production.
My only objection it's about the cockpit. The tempest cockpit seems out of place. A gladiator cockpit seems a much more reasonable choice. Why the tempest cockpit was selected? (I am usually in the opinion that the modder knows better, still I was surprised...)
-
Thanks for the addition of a not very well known experimental plane. I like to do a lot of fantasy combat so this would be a great addition to my library. I don't have BAT so I am wondering if this will work in my v 4.12.2m SAS Modact v 5.3 set up.
NavyAce
-
Hi NavyAce, seems to work well in my heavily modded 4.12 install.
-
John Kent recalled that it was a great plane, but he had a weak engine. Performance was lagging behind Spitfire and Hurricane. It seems that FM well demonstrates the capabilities of this machine: A small load on the wing, but rather a anemic engine. Regards.
-
Thanks so much for this aircraft - currently my 'go to' in TGA (I only fly for fun in that era). I love these prototypes that did not quite make it. There are others that would be nice to see in TGA - Vickers Venom, MB B2/B3/B5 and the Bristol 146 to name just a few.
-
Any skins around for this yet?
-
Is there any download still available for this plane?

Many thanks.

It's OK to fly, but it burns pretty easily. Even under MG fire from Japanese bombers. I found that out when i did a single mission for it.
