Title: IJN Yamato Class(1944) v2 [4.09] [4.10] [4.11] [4.12][4.13]
Post by: Diving_Hawk on February 14, 2012, 09:16:11 AM
V2 is out.
screen from GilB57

Changes: Almost a brand new ship.
Almost all parts were scratchmade.
Ugly shading is pretty much gone now, Also shadow meshes are ok, so no extra graphic lag from bad shadows.
Correct format in hier.him so destroyed small guns won't stay there and smoke for ever creating lag.
A complete remodel basically. Hope you like it!
For those that don't like the seaplane on catapult, feel it's too low res etc there is a step in installation to get rid of this if you want. (readme in download)

NOTE:
PLZ confi
If someone could contribute a nice screenshot it would be super as I suck at it :P

Readme on how to install included in the download.
Plz grab the appropriate version for you:

==For HSFX6 and any other modpack that already has Yamato installed==
https://www.mediafire.com/?4h5dmjfp7b6cp0d

==For UP3 or any other modpack that does not have the Yamato installed==
https://www.mediafire.com/?e9er1jejxvwuzg2

==HD update for seaplane (optional) from deSAD==
Download the archive with the updated texture.
https://www.mediafire.com/download/d3v46bvapvm9d0v/seaplane_1024.zip
Unpack the archive into a folder <your_MOD's_folder>\<folder_with_the_MOD_Yamato>\3do\Ships\Yamatov2, agreeing with the replacement files.
Thank you for your attention. Enjoy

==Republishing/Altering==

Feel free to use freely and as always you are encouraged to improve my work.
It is far from perfect, maybe you can bring it one step closer to it.
Only limitation is you must also give right to others to do the same if you do so.

IMPORTANT NOTE : This does not cover the low res F1M "pete" seaplane
as it is the work of mikoyan99 altered only a bit be me.
If you want to use this model you must ask it's creator for permision.

==Special Thanks==

*Mikoyan99 --> For the seaplane model (chk out his mod here for full plane: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,35901.0.html).
*Western --> For introducing me to SAS style of java packing, tons of help,
and because this mod uses one of his classes ( 13mm mg with altered name to avoid conflicts)
*AshesHouse --> Lots of help, primarily spotting innacuracies/ mistakes in 3d
*Modder that first made the moving flag animation for IJN
*JFC squad --> for their support and suggestion that i build this that started it all

==Thanks to==

*1C of course, otherwise we would nto ahve thsi great game
*TD for patch 4.11.1 which on which my installation is based.

I have to report a funny problem: I can see and select the ship in FMB, place it on the map (see pic below) but then, when the mission starts, there is no ship; also, I noticed that although it appears in "stationary ships" selection box, I can't place it on any map. Am I missing something? She is truly imposing!!!!
EDIT: Problem solved! I removed your initials "DH" from your ships1. text insert, apparently, the game did not recognize that part. I now have the beast in full steam!!!! 8) 8) 8) 8)

My grandfather would be proud DH, as he watched the planes take off that sank her on that fateful day. Out of many combat operations during the Pac War from the Gilberts to Tokyo Bay, the duty I think he knew mattered the most was when his ship pulled plane guard for the CV's launching strikes. That and the radar picket missions off of Okinawa, crazy times those must have been!

Hi Preussen, 70% crashes are due to .ini errors - double check mate!

Upload some video to be guided correctly, my problem remains .... will not work on my DBW 1.7.1 or if it works?? :-\
Title: Re: IJN Yamato Class(1944) v1

It works in my DBW 1.7. Here are the ini entries.....

Read me....

==Installation Instructions==:

1) Drop "Ship_JFC_IJNYamato" and "Ship_JFC_Classes" folders into your MOD folder.
(Mod folders: UP-->#UP# , SAS Modact #SAS#, Dark Blue World #DBW#)

2) Add the text "ship1" in first part of Files\com\maddox\il2\objects\ships.ini ini under [gun_25_Type96]

3) Add the text "ship2" before IJNBB Generic in ships.ini

4) Add the text "chief1" in Files\com\maddox\il2\objects\chief.ini under IJNBB

5) Add the text "chief2" in chief.ini under IJNBB second entry

6) Add the text in "stationary" to Files\com\maddox\il2\objects\stationary.ini under IJNBB

7) Add the text "technics" to Files\i18n\technics_ru bellow IJNBB

==Republishing/Altering==

* Edit: Mark, i edited it for you. it's easy, mate, simply paste your text in using the 'insert code' option (# symbol)...it's right next to the 'insert quote' option, which almost everyone seems able to do without problem, lol
i think what causes problems for many people is that what they are inserting sometimes starts, or ends, with a [, or ] symbol, and those interfere with the brackets that the insert code option uses.
to get around this, just make sure to include a space or two between the first bracket.
cheers
Senator Malonius

When installing any ships start with the text entries for chief.ini and ships.ini
Do not make the entries in stationary.ini and technics_ru.properties yet, only after you have it working.

Paste the text from your logfile here.
This may give a clue as to why its not working.

Those .ini's take a lot of getting used to Preussen, i've had so many cock-up's in the early days I lost count !! Shame theres not a one-step editor about?

Right

This is a small texture fix to get rid of the small texture bug of portholes appearing in the armour belt while they should only be on front of the ship.
I knew this bug since release but did not have the will to be honest to fix it back then.

So let me fix it now.

1) Download and Unzip
2) Copy the images that come out to #UP#/[folder where Yamato is]/3do/Ships/IJNYamatoClass and overwrite

UPDATE 2!

After seeing the gun class by total accident while working on Iowa I realize I've set th calibre to 410mm. Possibly a mistake from when this was started when I saw the guns were clasified as 400mm and thought that was real size( the truth was they were 460mm instead )

Anyway I fix it here. Just download this folder (only some KBs) if you like.
https://www.mediafire.com/?tu80m759vm6ky51

1)Extract
2)Move it to #UP#/ and reaplace the old.

That should fix this.
Again sorry, a leftover guys that eluded me until today.

Link to main download disabled, As I wrote in 1st page,

!! NOTE !!:
Back when I first built Yamato my goal was to learn to do 3d for il2 and to fill a gap for our squadron. Initially it was not my intention to realease the ship to public.
Now after having the Iowa mostly complete I feel Yamato is not given credit by the model. At best it's simply mediocre compared to the work I put in Iowa.

So I decide now to get back to it not to just fill a gap simply this time but to give you sth all will enjoy. I'll do a complete scratchbuild for v2.
Sorry if anyone felt this model was not adequate, I hope you will find my new work better.
Btw if someone wants to have this even though a new version is in the works, I'll provide link by pm.

Thank you.

Later will be official way released professional model of Yamato by DT (https://www.sas1946.rocks/images/imageshit/img508/1725/yamatoscr2.jpg).
Better try build something other model for Japanese navy, destoyer or cruiser due duplicate work. Or something for kriegsmarine, any heavy cruiser.

I guess it is duplicate work.
But I will do it no matter what.

When I start  sth I want to take it as far as I can. My skill and knoweledge of the game things is much better now than when I started this.
I will finish the Yamato, if by that time TD version is already out, I'll simply be happy about it. Just happy I covered the gap till the release in this case ;)

I don't do this because I don't like TD version , let me get sth straight if the model you guys have is as good as it is in the pics and you also lift some limitations( like hier.him size) your Yamato will definatelly be the step ahead.

But that does not stop from wanting to do sth I started a while ago better.

Not good from organisation perspective but I need to do it for myself.

Ok after thinking a bit of Magot's message I put up the old link in first post.
If TD is in the process of adding a final model for Yamato ingame I guess me working on one too ( at least for releasing purposes) is wasted energy and if you are an engineer you know wasted energy is not good.

So sry gents but this ship here will serve you as an adequate Yamato till TD release it in it's full glory

I think it's a great piece of work, no matter what.   There is nothing is this game that is perfection, but all are functional.   I think for a first time stab at modeling you did a super job.   I put the BB to the test against the Tirpitz and Bismark, score, Yamato 2 and 0.

That should not happen since I used both ships on same install for quite some time.
Let me try install them both tomorrow and come back to you on this.

I have used your Yamato and I have no complaints. It's a nice piece of work but if you are going to do a better one I am even happier. Then will you do us a lovely heavy cruiser? Takao class or Myoko class would be fine.
Title: Re: IJN Yamato Class(1944) v1
Post by: Diving_Hawk on October 19, 2012, 05:34:49 AM
To answer.
1) No I'm not going to post updates on this ship. 1C have a very nice looking Yamato of their own which is being worked as we speak and they have much more time than me to work with it, also they can lift some of the hier restrictions so in the end it's only fair to assume their Yamato will be a better ship. Both in looks and in parts like having all guns with damage mehses( sth I am restricted not to do)
Only thing I might do in future, provided TD has no objection with it will be to create a mod of a really detailed 3d damage model for their Yamato, without touching the basic model and damaged meshes with killed as opposed to "charcoal" sailors. If they allow it, I repeat.

2) I don't have enough time. Therefore any attempt to build a cruiser right now with that reduced time will only end up "damaging" the cruiser as it will become of very poor quality.
I'm not ready to post a "bad" ship. Sorry.

@ ANDYTOTHED

I downloaded both ships and they seem to work without probs.
Plz delete the ship entries and folders that come with the ships and reinstall in this order:

1) Install Yamato and it's fixes
2) Install Iowa. Overwrite the ship_jfc_classes folder.

my test was in UP3 environment.

It should work fine in 4.10.1 ModAct, also in HSFX5 (its included in HSFX6)

What problem exactly do you have.

Game loads ok?  -- or CTD.   if CTD what % does it reach.
or model does not appear in FMB or just does not appear in missions.

Do errors related to Yamato appear in your logfile?

Just to let you know, I'm bussy for a major update for this ship.
Most of the 3d is done from scratch, my aim is to make this the same quality as my Iowa mod,
and get rid of the ugly features like shadow meshes that are bugged in current release.
Superstructure and hull is done and now I'm making a better model for the rangefinders.

I won't post pics yet cause only half side is done so I mirror it and I'm sure you don't want to see half a ship ;)

Some details on 155mm turret and Mast area.
And a render shot.
A correct crane was also built to replace the franken-crane on earlier versions.

Soon I will rebuild the 25mm gun shelter to get rid of ugly shades.

One of less detailed LOD of the F1M would actually be possible to be added if I get permission to use it.
But I'm not 100% sure I will be able to do it.
You see the hier files are restricted to a max size. For a standard ship it's enough but for Yamato if you plan to put all guns you will end very close to the limit.
So it will all depend on wether or not I reach the limit with the guns. If not I could add the F1M. ;)

Ok the 155 turret is imported.
Also brand new 127mm and 25mm closed turrets , no ugly shades on them this time.

I'm in the process of importing to game atm, so next time I post an update it will be with the whole ship imported.
Don't worry if I don't post sth for a lot of days, it's getting there slowly...

All work is done by now.

Mikoyan99 has given me permission to use his F1M Pete for the catapult (thx m8 ;) )
So I just delay the release 1 or 2 days, to see If I can get a reduced detail model of the seaplane on that catapult that actually looks decent.

For those that don't like this don't worry I will also have version without it.

That was my plan initially but the seaplane even low res has quite a few polygons. I cannot fit another one in same mesh and a lot of other meshes like the 25mm rangefinders are merged already.
Too busy atm but maybe in mid September after exams I will go through the model and see if I can squeeze a second seaplane in
There must be a mesh that can be merged with the second seaplane. ;)

Well sorry to spoil your fun guys but Yamato needs some more work.

The most observant of you surely noticed that the Hull mesh is not as great as the rest of the ship.
So #1 on my list is to completely remake the Hull meshes and then you'll have 1st normal version.

Otherwise do not expect work on the Shinano unless this becomes perfect first.

And that means redoing the hull meshes.
I know that you wrote this almost two years ago in Yamato WIP topic, but since Yamato model is complete, is there a chance that you will create a model of Shinano? :)

I like to be honest to you.
Right now I'm not really in the mood of starting this. It is still too close to the last update and need to recharge batteries , not to mention how less free time I have atm.
Also carriers are really not my field, I'm worried I might not do it well.

Even if I decide to do it it will be in future although I really hope some other modder with more experience in carriers will step forward.

Sorry to disapoint  :-[

Cruisers are another story as well as smaller PTO ships.
First I need good references, then appetite for modding again and time most importantly.

Perhaps I will take a go in one of them. But I can't confirm atm. Too messy schedule to do so. I don't like making false promishes  ;)

Let me offer you a little update for "Yamato". This update is the texture of a "normal" size for a onboard seaplane, that is 1024x1024 pixels ...

you make no mention of a mod pack, or mod activator. without one of these, you will not get mods to work.
the name 'mod activator' speaks for itself - it enables the use of mods.
so you need to get your game mod activated first - SAS Modact recommended - but also i recommend patching your game to 4.12.2 - why stop on an already outdated version?

Not sure how many people use this ship.ini file to view objects, but if anyone has it working, I'd appreciate help with my mistake.

ggrewe, thanks for the help. Yamato now in the object viewer.

PS I also did the trick to make the game think that the Yamato is a carrier, so that you can view it, in game, by pressing either Shift/F2 or Ctrl/F2.
Fun to watch it defend itself against 20 Helldivers and TBM's.

My opinion is that we only need one ship of each class type in order to build missions.
Duplicating models seems pointless, unless they are significantly different in appearance.
Were Musashi and Yamato very different?

In their 1944 Leyte time styles, Musashi had less 127mm AAAs than Yamato.
Yamato had 12x AAAs, Musashi had 6x AAAs.
In exchange for it, Musashi might have 6x more Triple 25mm MG.

I know a modder is trying to make Musashi 1944 based on hacking this Yamato MOD, but I don't know when he will finish it and be able to release it ..... or unfortunately canceled.

After installation I can see the ship in FMB, but it doesn't show up during actual gameplay, also it cant be placed as a stationary object. Can anyone here help? My IL-2 version is 4.12.2 + VP modpack

EDIT: changed to the version with seaplane and it worked.

Kinda bumping this and I agree that "Musashi" would be nice and I also thought many times how about "alternative timeline" fictious Super-BB's for USA,GB, Germany and Japan!? Wouldn't that be awesome!? Oh and still hoping for "Hood" and other ships but that's another story... ;)

I'm trying to get the 'No Seaplane' version of the Yamato to work, after reading that when engaged these seaplanes were flown off the ship,I have religiously followed the read me,using the relevant texts given within the download to do this, but it's not showing up in game.

You can view the Yamato in the objects window, minus the seaplane but when you go into game the ship is missing, could any fine fellow help me solve this please.

Here is my log.

Thanks Epervier......I've sorted it,the text in the download given for Ship Ini 2 (No Seaplane) still has the text at the end of the information, that needs to be removed, which, when done allows the Yamato to be used without the Seaplane showing up.

This part of the info  needs to be removed from the text given for Ship Ini 2 (No Seaplane) this is the final entry of this text.

I suspect this hasn't been picked up before as I'm probably the only one that doesn't want the seaplane appearing on the Yamato  :-[

Hello,

I recently downloaded the Yamato v2 using the correct version for 4.12.2m SAS Modact v 5.3 and installed it following the instructions. On completion I checked the Objects/View/Ships tab and found the ship listed and got the screen picture below. I was able to place the Yamato on the map I was using, replacing the generic Japanese BB and using the old WPs, as the speeds were the same. When I did a max zoom in on the map I saw the ship icon below the first WP and the blue WP lines leading from it. When I clicked Enter I could see the ship in formation while in 3D mode. I placed a static camera nearby and ran a test, only to find out that when the mission ran the Yamato was not visible even with the camera on top of the formation and using a max zoom out, although the other ships were in sight, and were moving properly. I found that I could save the changes to the mission but I could only get the Yamato to appear in 3D when there was no movement. Once the mission began it disappeared, even though it was using the same start time and speeds as the other ships. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I wanted to amplify a few things about the installation of my download. I have not installed any version of the Yamato previously and I am running 4.12.2m SAS Modact v 5.3 so I selected the proper download link for my installation. I selected the no seaplane option, so I followed the instructions, using the ship2 for no seaplane file and using the Hier.him file from the No Seaplane folder. However when I tried to add the Ship_JFC_Classes to my SAS folder I was told that there was already a file there by that name, as I had previously installed several other ships including the Iowa. I checked the contents of both folders, and the class files in each were identical in their composition with the same letter/number combinations. Since they were identical I did not merge the folders thinking that the folder already in place would suffice. I hope all of this helps.

Strange!
Yamatov2_notinmodpck.zip archive ?

The Classes provided are composed as follows:
- not touch !
4209F9C47E34B326   CannonJA_155mm
2F453DC2440CDD8A   CannonJA_460mm
B41ABA9E1D37450E   CannonUS_Mk7_410mm
D0E820D8C8F83662   MachineGunJA_Type93_13_x4

- Class for ships
9D6C94F4482C31D6   ShipJFC1$IJNYamatoClass
EC1145FCED6ADC34   ShipJFC1$USSIowaBB61
BC2508487F558066   ShipJFC1 (mother-Class)

It is not enough to have the same name. You also have to be the same size for mother-Class !  ;)
Check the hier.him you have in the folder (3do\Ships\Yamatov2\).
It must have a total of 1018 lines!
With the seaplane it has 1027 lines (the seaplane lines - 1011 to 1019 - are almost at the end)!

Thanks for the reply Epervier. I'd like to clear up a couple of things. Please bear with me as I am not terribly computer savvy. You say "It is not enough to have the same name. You also have to be the same size for mother-Class !" I checked the size of each of the 7 files listed, both those in the download and those in my current Ship_JFC_Classes folder and each are the same. 4209F9C47E34B326 (2 KB) 2F453DC2440CDD8A (2 KB) B41ABA9E1D37450E  (2 KB) D0E820D8C8F83662 (2 KB) 9D6C94F4482C31D6 (1 KB) EC1145FCED6ADC34 (1 KB) BC2508487F558066 (2 KB). So the mother class not only has the same name (I'm assuming the name is the letter/number combination) but the size matches, as do the sizes and names of all of the other six files. I also checked the Ship_JFC_Claases folder in my game for the BB61Iowa and found these were also identical.
Next you mention to, " Check the hier.him you have in the folder (3do\Ships\Yamatov2\).
It must have a total of 1018 lines! With the seaplane it has 1027 lines (the seaplane lines - 1011 to 1019 - are almost at the end)!" When I followed the path Ship_JFC_IJNYamato\3do\Ships\Yamatov2 I don't find a hier.him file that resembles the format found in the No Seaplane folder, but rather a long list of msh mat and tga files among other things. You say that the hier.him file that should be here should have a minimum of 1018 lines (no seaplane) and 1027 with the seaplane. The lines in the Yamato2 folder are not numbered so I did a rough manual count and came up with something around 176. Am I looking in the right place for the hier.him file? And are these msh, mat, and tga files the ones that I need to count?
My next question is, since I can't seem to get the ship to work without the seaplane and catapult, can I safely remove the No Seaplane hier.him file and replace the ship2 without seaplane file with the regular ship2 file, or failing that to safely uninstall everything I have done without breaking the game and start over with a fresh install?
Thanks for your time and patyience.

We're going to work things out!
1 - the same size for a file: we must have to have to the nearest byte! So right-click on the file... properties..... and you will have the actual size in bytes!

2 - I suppose you are using the awful Windows Notepad program! If you want to see and understand a lot of things, it is better to use another text editor.
Personally I use NotePad2 for Windows 64 bits! See here:
http://www.flos-freeware.ch/notepad2.html
and D/L version 4.2.25 (x86 - 32bits) or 4.2.25 (x64 - 64bits) !

This way you will become the king of file tinkering "him"!

Note: the Hier.him file must exist!
But you may not have enabled the viewing of Windows file extensions!
This is very important!
See the specialized sites to activate this function... possibly!

Hi Epervier,

I tried to follow your instructions to get more precise file size but was only partially successful. When I highlighted and right clicked on the first file in my game's Ship_JFC_Classes folder and then clicked the properties tab I got a dialogue box with five tabs, the first of which was labeled General. This gave the file size in both KB (1.42) and bytes (1,463). However, when I did the same thing to the same file in the same folder in the download, I got a dialogue box with only one tab labeled General, and this gave the file size only as 2 KB, compressed to 1 KB. It was not broken down into bytes. There was an index number (9) listed but I have no idea as to its meaning. I'm still looking for the Hier.him file.

People have successfully installed this ship in 4.12.2 SAS Modact v 5.3 and got it working but it still doesn't work for me. I tried fixing things by replacing the hier.him file I had used from the No Seaplane folder to replace the one in the Yamatov2 folder from the download, and then taking out the ship2 for no seaplane file which I had placed in the ships.ini file and replacing it with the ship2 file and then dropping the class files from the Ship_JFC_Classes folder into my existing folder in my game and letting them overwrite (I had not done this before as I thought the files were identical), thus now giving me the yamato with the catapult, whereas before I had used the no seaplane option. I was able to start my game and it loaded with no CTDs and I opened my current mission and placed the ship on the map, taking the place of an existing BB and its WPs. When I clicked into 3D mode I was able to see the ship fine and it did in fact show the catapults. It was also visible when I clicked Show in the Objects box. However, when I ran the mission I had the same old problem.  When I viewed the formation with the Static camera I had placed the Yamato was nowhere to be seen. It had disappeared. I zoomed back and forth and looked around in several 360s but could only see the other ships. No Yamato, even though it was using the same start time as the other ships. The only other thing I can think of to do is to completely uninstall the ship and start over. If that fails I will try another download, and if that doesn't work I'm out of ideas. I think someone else had this problem that they fixed by deleting DH initials from some files but I can't find that anywhere. I need this ship. Can anyone help? Thanks.

The Yamato is a beautiful ship. Painstaking detailed and a joy to look at. Unfortunately it doesn't move. And I also can't get the game to place it on a map as a stationary ship. These are the same problems cgagan had. Maybe if I tried v1? Is there a link to the earlier version?

Do you have the same error as described in post #149?

If not... no LOG... no HELP !

Read how to get the log here (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,13457.0.html), and the instant log here (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,19308.0.html).

When you want to post only the relevant parts from the log
read here (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=39780.0) how to do this. (code option!)

If you want to post all lines of the logfile we suggest to use https://pastebin.com/
to paste your log and then paste the link here which you got from them.
Read and see here (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,39780.msg627220.html#msg627220) how to do this.

Note: It is preferable to provide the LOG in its entirety!

Did you correctly paste the new gun text entries into ships.ini?  -  ship1.txt in the instructions.

This kind of problem is normally due to the entries in ships.ini being incomplete.
Check ships.ini again.
Especially check whether you have missed text entries in the section headed // User-defined sections with gun parameters

Yep, I'm a late comer to the party as always, but damn, hell of a good job on this one!
