Title: MONTY'S CAMPAIGNS: - THE JET AGE [BAT 3.7 update]

At long last - the first one has arrived...

"Screaming Eagles", "The Jet Age", and all the things we wanted to do in it, was actually the inspiration behind 'The Full Monty', several years ago now, creating the series of mod compilation projects that eventually joined DBW2 and evolved into CUP.  Back then the test group that would become Hangar-19, myself, eMeL and RDDR began by putting together a modlist and skins for this campaign.  Screaming Eagles was actually named by AG51-Hoss, whose invaluable advice and contributions also helped to build this mission set.

Obviously a campaign based on mods needs the people who want to play it to have all of the same mods and setup.  In the old days this often meant a long wall of text attached to the campaign and a huge shopping list for anyone who could be bothered to try and mod their setup to match the stated requirements.

It was also clear that asking people to add particular mods for different campaigns across different eras would eventually break other things down the line.  There was no common setup in place for mod-campaign builders to share their work.  This was the reasoning behind the excellent 'Dark Blue World', but the Jet Age mods and tight requirements began to outpace even that marvelous compilation.  We had to find a way to enable more people to easily get to the maximum mods for any given air combat era.

There was much enthusiasm for our project, especially from many who had never thought of modding to this level.  There was also resistance from those who preferred to restrict new content and sneer at our 'modpacks' (a term I detest).

Well now we have CUP - The culmination of years of effort, trial and error, upgrades, patches, compromise, fixes and fantastic innovation.  CUP brings so much content together it is now rightly known as: 'The Il2 412 Supermod'.  This was the whole point - There are a good number of these campaigns nearing completion and it won't take years this time!  From now on the new campaigns, and the old ones that are fixed, will stay fixed.  CUP is here to stay.

There are a few more to sort out and package but rather than wait a second longer let's get the ball rolling!

With our sincere thanks to all the modders who comprise this great community; - Monty's Jet Age Campaigns are circling overhead and cleared for approach!

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:

1)-#CUP_Forgotten Countries - JSGME ENABLE
Make Sure Forgotten Countries is activated in order for the missions to function properly.

2)-#CUP_MissionProCombo-v4122 - JSGME DISABLE
These campaigns are NOT compatible with PAL's MissionPRO - This is not a problem.  Just take it out using JSGME and you can put it back later.

These missions depend on following the scripted mission and aircraft selection as it has been written.  They should not be edited later or altered by QMBPRO as this will break them.

It is easy to re-enable QMBPRO (#CUP_MissionProCombo-v4122) at a later time in order to enjoy the full range of QMBPRO missions. - Just turn it OFF for these campaigns.

3)-These campaigns do not work with earlier versions of Il2, ie: pre 412, DBW etc...

C.U.P. The Jet Age is based on Version 412 and all of these missions use unique 412 features; scramble takeoffs, taxiing AI, precise parking and seaplane starts and many more things that are just not possible in 410/411.

4)-Look for the Skin suggestion at the end of each briefing: *SKIN* etc, where appropriate...

Some years ago, when building this campaign for the first time, AG51-Hoss explained how the Virtual AG51 Online Squadron use Hayrake transmitters to locate and reach the Carrier.  Since then then the Il2 code has been arbitrarily changed so many times and mods like Hayrake broken.  Should we have a solution for 412 CUP, the most comprehensive and stable Il2 Mod-build in a long time, then the campaign may be easily patched to include this feature again.  Likewise Command and Control was updated, broken by TD412 and then fixed again.  Many of the original features are back and the campaign could be completed at long last.

The Bridges at Toko Ri is, of course, a fictional raid although it has become part of historic mythos and is based on real operations at the time.

This set replaces the previous earlier release.  The scenery is improved with even more airport traffic and you can now proceed through the set using the campaign menu.  This set is all about the briefings.  The keys that you need to re-map, the ideal flight profiles, landing speeds, flap function, radar, weapon systems and their employment:  Each task is broken down in the briefing for the mission.  So just launch and its all self contained.  No need for a load of notes and postits stuck everywhere.

The campaign has a nice progression towards graduation day and the final carrier trap.  The Single Missions allow you to re-visit any scenario at any time.  Now all you have to do is practice...

This is another training set designed for quick reference and practice at any time.  Following the campaign progression to graduation will underline the lessons and re-inforce the training.   This set also tasks out of Pensacola; but both principle USMC Fighters have very different flight profiles.  Mastery of the AV8B Harrier II, on approach to a carrier deck for example, is quite plausible as it so well modelled.  Personally this is the best Harrier I have ever flown, across a dozen or more sims over the last 25 years.

We don't have an FRS2 yet, but with the right skins, and the ski-jump carrier, this baby is going to get an outing over the Falkland Islands real soon!

Glad to see VF-51 Screaming Eagles over Korea has finally seen the light of day............................

I know the missions work fine in HSFX 7.0.2 stock version, and with a few mods thrown in all of the aircraft of the era work great.

Glad to see VF-51 Screaming Eagles over Korea has finally seen the light of day............................

Thank you Hoss

Re-building The Full Monty - merging with Dark Blue World II - and creating C.U.P. was one hell of a diversion buddy!  I really am confident now that C.U.P. is stable and, while we shall continue to improve it, the basic structure will never again be wrecked or taken apart.

Meanwhile:  Can we patch and improve things? - Sure we can.  I know the first thing you do is get into FMB and tear them apart.  That's what I want too.  We can expand, improve, polish it even more, please feel free to use anything I have put out.

Simon

Just a dumb question ???  The Eagles folder goes into the UN , but when I flew the 1st and 2nd missions in the campaign my plane was marines !!  That is what I got and I do not care at all .  wow (all caps) the best from you again !!!!   The biggest thaks for monty and all  !!! , flyby1

The scripted campaign is not designed to be altered and messed with, using PAL'S MissionPRO combo, for example.  I suspect you selected another flight and took that.  That's the only way I could break it.  There is no such instruction.

In fact; for the very best experience with a scripted campaign it is advisable to JSGME disable #CUP_MissionProCombo-v4122 so that the campaign may direct you to the proper seat.  #CUP_MissionProCombo-v4122 is a great tool for QMB and helps sort out Map selection in FMB.  But for scripted campaigns it should definitely be removed.

Monty - Please accept my belated but sincere thanks. Haven't flown all of the training missions yet; the urge to try Screaming Eagles, as my first jet campaign ever, was irresistible, and it certainly did not disappoint. Everything is running smoothly in my Jet Age module. I'm looking forward very much to additional jet campaigns.

I try flying the first mission and my a/c crashes on take off (I think -- it happens pretty fast ;-). Either that, or a "Return to Base"/"Mission Complete" at the very start.

Brilliant Missions Love it.
Take off are are real *%$£*!$..

Usually manage it  1 in 4.. though I,m getting better  .....

What seems to work( for me) is that as soon as clear of ship raise undercarriage. raise flaps to combat, slight nose up
,A few cuss words never do any harm and seem to help at this squeaky bum time

Nice campaigns!
Is there any campaign for the carrier based F-4s?  ;)

Nice campaigns!
Is there any campaign for the carrier based F-4s?  ;)

I haven't done one yet but the tools are there for everyone and I will do it eventually.  Not just carrier based F4s either, there are more Vietnam era aircraft mods in the pipeline and the Skyhawk is a good bomb-truck too.

Chronologically I have been working on WWI and SCW before getting back to WWII.  However,  these campaigns are, for me anyway, the whole point of CUP and the reason I started it.  So yes, there will be PLENTY of new jet campaigns and they will get better and better.

Nice campaigns for BAT! (former for CUP)
Is it anywhere a Vietnam campaign for the F-4s or Mig-21s?
I searched but didn't find anything.

B.A.T. is designed to facilitate such a thing but has only been out for a week!  I have written many Vietnam era campaigns which will be assembled in the coming months.  Why not get into FMB and start making some missions?

Read but I Can't find the two files in the BAT00 file nor in others BAT parts, I'm probably missing something?I don't seem to be able to fly your jet missions.

bside i managed to solve the resolution problem and now the view is fantastic!!!  and I want to thank you for your "Long time" in a previous message. I consider all of you just friends of mine! thanks Monty!

No old friend; my point is that those previous options are now built into B.A.T.  So many overlooked them, and they are essential anyway, that we made them permanent features.  Page-13 lists a load of stuff you don't see in B.A.T. JSGME Options because its already in there.

The campaigns look and work better than ever from this end.  I am going through everything again, just finishing WWI and the SCW, about 100 campaigns, then working through the rest up to the present day, another 50 or so campaigns.

If you have an issue with something I haven't got to yet, please be specific and we can nail it down.  Everything is fixable, whether its from your end, or mine...

Thanks for the missions! Definitely appreciated!

When I load the first mission from screaming eagle over korea though, the game crashes (in cockpit, on the carrier deck).

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Title: Re: MONTY'S CAMPAIGNS: - THE JET AGE
Post by: SAS~Monty27 on February 10, 2017, 02:17:08 AM
These missions were made in an earlier version of C.U.P. and now need to be updated in B.A.T.  Typically small loadout classfile changes can cause the exploding spawn bug, ship and object names can change etc.  These all need to be loaded up in FMB and made fully B.A.T. compatible.  I will get around to it.  8)

UPDATE:
With B.A.T. Expansion Pack Seven, out soon, this campaign is fully working...

Thanks for the missions! Definitely appreciated!

When I load the first mission from screaming eagle over korea though, the game crashes (in cockpit, on the carrier deck).

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Try disable Chocks mod.

These campaigns all need a major B.A.T. Upgrade and they will get it.  I am right in the middle of actually building and maintaining B.A.T. as well, so the ambition for these projects is often ahead of the time immediately available. - But it will be done.

B.A.T. has settled down very well into a stable install.  There is a growing understanding, amongst many enthusiasts and modders too, that B.A.T. - The Jet Age is a natural home for all things Jet Age.  The often complex setups, conditions and specialist mod requirements are easily native to the B.A.T. environment.  We have worked very hard to get it to this stage and still make the whole package easily accesible for everyone, the goal of every campaign builder.

We have the tools.  Anyone with B.A.T. has the most highly modded Il2 install possible to date!  This is where the fastjets of Il2 live!

Do you actually get any time to, eat and sleep Monty ?   ;D ;)

Your single player missions from all era's, have moved me away from MP CLOD.

Which can get a bit tedious, doing the same thing on the same map all the time.

Thanks very much for all the missions and campaigns, present and future.

Best wishes,
Mike.

Hello Mike

I'm only playing with Il2 for a few hours each week, just like anyone else really.  I just try to record my missions, write stuff down, and post it.  Its no different to anyone else but I do try to focus on getting the stuff out there.

Simon

Hi Simon,

you get a heck of a lot done in those few hours then.  8)

I downloaded your jet missions earlier, thank you.

So off to have a quick look, my flying skills are probably not up to fast jets though.  ;)

Thanks again,
Mike.

If I but these Missions, The Golden Age and Dawn of flight ones in would the ini files take anything out after the Pathfinder 3.3 when I overwrite or is everything safe after 3.3

I don't understand what you mean.
Title: Re: MONTY'S CAMPAIGNS: - THE JET AGE [BAT 3.7 update]
Post by: bergkamp on August 30, 2019, 05:29:48 AM

I wanted to fly this campaign again using BAT 3.71 and so have upgraded to the latest standards and share it here. I hope I haven't trod on anyone's toes by presenting it here. I am happy for admins to take a look and approve it.

Nothing has been changed from Monty's original campaign design. I have used the latest loadout convention, but in some cases I have had to change the loadout profile to match as close as possible with the original. I was unable to use original skins in some cases, as those used were non HD and no longer fit. Changes as follows:

SKINS :
AD-4    -   Default
AT-6_Texan_Trainer  - Default

LOADOUT CHANGES :
AD-4
AT-6 Texan
F82's

Oh, I didn't realise that EAGLES also might have changed. Thanks for this link, I'll add it to the first post

With all of the fantastic new features and the continued evolution of BAT, Eagles is way overdue for essential maintenance. This has been done, the campaign adapted and expanded. The New Eagles will be posted shortly.
