Post by: SAS~Storebror on April 27, 2017, 11:05:57 AM
Installation Instructions for SAS Modact 6.40:

Run the self-extracting installer, select your IL-2 4.13.4m game folder as target for installation, let the installer do it's job, run the game and enjoy!
(Please note it is STRONGLY suggested you start with a fresh 4.13.4m install before switching over to Modact 6.40)

For those who still want to upgrade their existing Modact Installation, this is the way which worked for the developers, though it's still strictly unsupported and in case of trouble you have to start with a fresh 4.13.4m installation instead of asking for support (which you won't get in that case):

For users who have an older Modact 5.x/4.0/3.0x and need to upgrade:

Unfortunately we don’t have much good news for you. With any game version change, it brings multiple changes and it is difficult to predict all of the side-effects. Therefore as much as pain it is, we STRONGLY recommend you create a fresh Il-2 install, patched all the way to 4.13.4m before installing Modact 6.40. For those still on Modact v3.06/v4.0, DBW 1.71 4.101m, HSFX 6 installs, they aren’t lost forever. We suggest porting your mods across one by one and seeing what happens.

You can try just patching your current install to 4.13.4m and plonking this over the top but it is likely it won’t work. You should do this at your own risk!

Server Operators:
Modact 6.40 works on dedicated servers as well.
All you have to do is to install Modact 6.40 the way it's described above, and then install the latest SAS Selector for Dedicated Server Operators (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,16403.0.html) on top, overwriting files if they already exist.
Finally you will want to edit the "il2server.ini" file to enable your Modact Dedicated Server game.
Note: The Modact il2server.exe needs to have Data Execution Prevention (DEP) to be turned off, at least for this executable.
Please refer to your operating system manual (Windows / Wine on Linux) how to disable DEP if required.

Modact 6.4x Changelog (newest first):
Code: [Select]
*** Modact 6.40 (Full Package): ***

- supported base game version: 4.13.4m

Known Bugs:
Code: [Select]
* CTO Mod doesn't support angle carrier decks yet.
Hints:
Like to have some HSFX eye candy in Modact 6?
Easy to achieve: Just copy all fb_hfx*.sfs files from your HSFX 7 folder to the "SFS_AUTO" folder of Modact 6.
It's about 5 Gigabytes in total, bear with us that we don't mirror that amount of data here. If you like the files, download HSFX 7 and you get them for free.

New handling of conf.ini's Hakenkreuz setting
With Modact 6.4 we've opted to enable the Hakenkreuz per default.
If you want to disable it, either activate the Hakenkreuz disabler in JSGME or open your conf.ini, search for the "[game]" section, add a line "HakenAllowed=0" (or change "HakenAllowed=1" to "HakenAllowed=0" if such line already exists).

Server Operators:
Modact 6.40 works on dedicated servers as well.
All you have to do is to install Modact 6.40 the way it's described above, and then install the latest SAS Selector for Dedicated Server Operators on top, overwriting files if they already exist.

HD Skins:
HD Skins are not part of Modact 6.4x itself!
In order to enable HD Skins, please enable one of the HD DLL sets available in JSGME.
True Color Skins are part of the core game since 4.13.4.
To enable true color skins, please enable the difficulty option "Support for 24-bit skins (Beta)" in the "Misc" section of the difficulty settings in QMB or FMB.

Instant Log (get the full/complete logfile in case of crashing games):
Instant Log has been incorporated in 4.13.4 by TD.
Previous Modact versions shipped with a pre-activated Instant Log mod by default.
Starting with 4.13.4, TD implemented our Instant Log mod, but it's deactivated by default.
You need to edit your conf.ini file to activate the Instant Log functionality:
Code: [Select]
[Console]
LOGDEBUG=1

This is just an "activator" to give you the ability to mod a 4.13.4 based game yourself. It ships with a rudimentary set of sample mods only.
VP Modpack, as the name tells, is a full blown modpack covering the WW2 era, based on 4.12.2.

It's a nod to the working implementation of HD true colour skins in 4.13.4, fixing the glitches still existing in the ".4" Patch of 4.13 for unknown reasons.
HD skins are "IL-2 Porn". That's why.

There's no simple "yes" or "no" answer to this question.
Quite with any new TD patch released, you will have to test individual mods one by one.
TD deliberately breaks backward compatibility in a way that makes it impossible to fix in a general way.

Thx again to all involved to keep up the good work!

I got our Dedi running on 4.13.4 #SAS for our weekly DCG Campaigns.
However, as we are coming from HSFX, a lot of maps/objects are used in the maps.

At first for client side:
I noticed the hint to load the hsfx files in sfs_auto.
Should this work for maps aswell?
I am not able to notice any hsfx content, like maps or objects choooseable in FMB.
Could someone point me to the right track here?
 :)

Should this work for maps aswell?
The short answer is: No.

You can add SFS archives to SFS_AUTO and replace existing stock objects appearance with the HSFX one, that's why we're talking about eye candy only.
If you want to add maps, you have to add and edit the regarding ini files as well.
And once you did so, you will notice that the maps have objects on them which are missing from Stock IL-2.
So you would have to add these objects, like buildings, runways, ships, tanks, cars etc.
When you got there, you'll notice that your missions still won't run because you're again using objects in your missions which are missing in Stock IL-2.
So back to start: Add all the missing objects, including java classes etc.
In the end you'd be asking for HSFX on 4.13.4, something that doesn't exist since 242 Sqn abandoned further HSFX development.

If you want to play HSFX, play HSFX.
If you want to play 4.13.4, play 4.13.4.
Both at the same time is a no-go.

Best regards - Mike

Hi to all! HD skins (tested on 4K FW-190 skin) stopped working on my computer since 4.13.4. On 4.13.3 and 4.13.2 all was ok..
I have "classic modded IL-2" with "MODS". Game just crash when try to choose HD skin or dont see HD skin.

Have somebody tested HD skins in 4.13.4 already?

I've tried 24bit option from DT on\off, 24bit from "HD / True Color Mod v1.1 (4K Skins)" on/off... Also tried Alternative Versions 1 and 2 of HD skins *.dll files, no result :(

The reason is that the Modact Java classfiles reside in the "#SAS" folder and they fix the remaining bugs in 4.13.4 concerning HD skins.
When you use the "MODS" folder instead, the new Java classes from "#SAS" folder will not get loaded, that's why HD skins won't work well.

Tiger Moth airplane mod - placed in #sas directory - works correctly. After packing to sfs file and placing in Sfs_auto directory - only horizon appears in game. Interestingly, the unpacked sfs file has the same contents as before packing. This is just an example. RRR Cyberolas Maps - the game does not see any new textures.

Edit: Stop - problem solved.

Edit 2: Mod Tiger Motch.sfs collided with Wheels by PA Jeronimo v.8.SFS. Cyberolas RRR maps.sfs collided with sas_maps_01.sfs

I'm sorry for the confusion - I did not do it for a long time  ;D.

In case of file content collisions, please remember that in contrast to the "#SAS" folder, where the first mod in alphabetical order overrides the others, for SFS files it's exactly the opposite: The last one rules!
For instance you have sas_maps_01.sfs and want to override some of it's contents, then your new SFS file would have to be named something alphabetically "behind" that name, e.g. "sas_maps_02.sfs" or "xx_sas_maps_01.sfs".

this is very good, thanks Mikey and ALL. ! now for the question/s, is there stabs 4 all working with 4.134m? and F6f  mirrors and Pals unlimited/limited bombs ammo and command control working with 4.13.4 yet ? I did try one of the F6f mirror mods but game CTD when used flaps or opened canopy, ain't tried C &C as I had enough mucking about re fixing 4.13.4m again, back to scratch with working though so all good. but I do like stabs and unlimited ammo with limited bombs, or is ALL this too early as yet ?.You never know if you never ask, thanks in advance Mike m8.  (is it safe to add maps ? as it's a bit thin in the FMB map choice area)

OK. change to note -- F6F mirrors and F4U mirrors working, stabs 4 all not - you get CTD when operating flaps-canopy open etc, unlimited/limited bombs ammo working in 4.134, trying C& C next will come back to note again. hope this helps -

Mike...?

As you like but it is on of the best mods ever made for IL2 and certainly on of those can make IL2 survive...

Mission making without Triggers is simply... out dated !

I get a CTD when I try that.  Just asking.

Storebror, after a long time managed to install "SAS Modact 6.4", but I saw something unusual, in the QMB when you are on the plane button the game crashes, with it back to the desktop.
I tried a second time from the main window of the QMB the plane to fly and I gave immediately, everything went smoothly, I tried a third time crashed.
There is something on a collision course that does not make me this passage, but frankly I can not read the eventlog file, in fact I do not remember at all what files are that make up the event for the reading that causes the crash of the game.

Anyway thank you very much for your hard and fantastic work ;)

No Storebror, I have not loaded "carsmaster's HD", I am attaching two screens of GME, of which the screen-1 with the mods mounted, and the screen-2 with the mods disassembled, but the result does not change when I go to the QMB, and I go to click on the button on the top right to choose skins, armaments, etc ... the game crashes. I tried with the Stock version, believing it was a problem related to patch_4.13.4, and everything went smoothly.

I really can not understand what can cause the crash of the game, also because if I do a campaign, a mission, single, coop etc ... giving directly the fly button everything seems normal ... but as I go to press the button to select BANG skins inevitable crash. :(

Doesn't change a thing.
You have a modified "BmpUtils" class in your game, the hashed filename is "7F958E2469CAE184".
Search for that file in the subfolders of "#SAS" folder and see where it is. That folder / the mod it belongs to is the culprit.
I've never rolled out that file in any other mod but the HD Skin Mod, and that one definitely doesn't belong to Modact 6.4 as it's not 4.13.4 compatible.

Best regards - Mike

Thanks a lot Mike, we have solved the problem, the file was just what you said you said this "7F958E2469CAE184", one of which was in the sub-folder #SAS indicated "XTD", and the other was exactly where you said you:
"Carsmaster's HD Skin Mod".
Now I assume that to provoke the collapse of the game, in my case, was the file that was housed in the subfolder "XTD", having never assembled with JSGME the "Carsmaster's HD Skin Mod" folder.

Anyway thank you so much for giving me back the light  ;D ;)

If you had such file in your "XTD" folder then this means that you've updated your game from 4.12.2+Modact 5.3.
Note that in such case it's strictly necessary to dump the whole "#SAS" folder before proceeding with the next Modact setup.

Post by: Fadeev on January 18, 2018, 02:28:23 PM
Hi to all! stupid question, for what can be used the Server Operators version :)? For example if our server got to be modded server..is it possible to made modded online server on this Modactivator, with a specific list of mods included (mods are mandatory for all players on server).  like UP but more you know,  "lite" version, not heavy modded.
And second question, FMs in buttons file included in SAS Modact 6.40, are they very different from stock Il-2 game (i mean only FMs of stock planes of course) ? For what planes it didnt change?

Hi ~~

4.13RC04m is not equal to 4.13.4m .

It's "RC" means "Release Candidate" of 1st 4.13 version .... so nearly "4.13.0" .

You have to patch up more "4.13.1m" -- "4.13.2m" -- "4.13.3m" -- "4.13.4m" before installing ModAct 6.4 .

all Bf-109 has open canopy in Modact 4.13.4.
Eh... no.
That means: Offline they do have the ability to open their canopy, online they don't.

Since modact 5.something (can't remember when exactly we've implemented that feature), we have additional flight model parameters for arrestor hooks, wing fold, opening canopy and bomb bay doors.
If you fly offline, the mod plane features will be enabled, so if there was an "open canopy" mod for that specific plane, you will get opening canopy enabled.
If however your fly online - and that's where this really matters - the pure stock flight model parameters will be in place to avoid things like "rich mixture smoke bug" etc.

Cheers!

The class files of mods placed in the #sas directory are correctly loaded even after moving them to the "excluded" (-) subdirectories in the given mods. This happens only in #sas - class files in such locations are not read from the SFS file placed in Sfs_auto (this should be the case). I hope that I have described it comprehensibly

I sense a certain confusion here ;)
First of all, SFS files (except for files.sfs) don't contain any class files.
Seconds, the selector has a pretty simple meaning of disabling mods.
You disable a mod by putting a "-" (minus) sign up front of the mod's folder name in the "#SAS" folder.
That. And only that.
What you do with files or subfolders inside a mod's folder, the selector doesn't care.
But disabling a mod folder by adding a "-" prefix definitely keeps it from even being considered for use by the selector at all.
You can try it yourself. Rename "XTD" inside the "#SAS" folder to "-XTD" and see how your game doesn't even start anymore.

First of all, SFS files (except for files.sfs) don't contain any class files.
I pack complete aircraft mods to SFS, together with classes - works ok.
The exception is the default airplane models, whose classes must be placed in the #sas catalogs.

The "mistake" described by me may be a problem in, for example, searching for conflicts - shifting classes instead of turning them off (within subdirectories of a given mod) gives nothing. Sometimes the moder also add alternative class files to different versions of the game in subdirectories marked with (-). The class files from such excluded locations are also loaded. I would like to add that in SAS Modact 5.3 such action does not occur.

Hmmm ... Maybe I have misunderstood.
The correct location of the class file:
X: \ IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles \ #sas \ PLANE Yak-11 \ FB1FB810757A71AA
Incorrect location:
X: \ IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles \ #sas \ PLANE Yak-11 \ -123 \ FB1FB810757A71AA - the class is load.
It is only "disabling" the class file (-FB1FB810757A71AA) that causes it to not be loaded.

Yes of course.
And that's even intentional.
The latest Selector Version introduced a feature that enables loading classes from subfolders, including hashed, "cod"ded and clear name classfiles:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,16403.msg626272.html#msg626272

What are the benefits of this feature?
Modders can use unhashed classfiles.
No need for wild guessing what is what anymore, you can just have plain text classfile names and plain text package named folder structures.
The idea was to make life easier for both modders and users.

Can any mod of aircraft somehow affect/overlap the forgotten countries mod
Sure.

I found the problem. That was a F7F-3 Tigercat mod with own custom markings, paintscheme and jsgme to activate them. Deliting of them solved the problem and now forgotten countries mod works well.

Here everything works as planned fortunately! ( Just one minor problem with JSGME, see below )

I have just a question: what are\is the difference between the SAS_HD DLLs Alternative version 1 and 2?

In addition it seems I have a problem with JSGME...

I activate the mods as per normal ( JSGME run as admin before starting the game, mods of interests activated and then game started with the selector on " SAS ModAct " ) but they seems to not apply.

Am I'm doing something wrong?

HD DLLs 1 and 2 are different versions for the same thing, because each version works on specific graphics cards only.
If one version works for you, simply stick to that.

JSGME mods not applying... have you checked your #SAS folder contents whether the specific mod has been copied to it's destination after activating it?
Maybe you've got some other mod installed that comes first in load order and overrides the JSGME mod you're trying to activate.
Just guessing, as I have no idea which JSGME mod we're talking about nor which mods you have installed already and how.

Thanks for the reply. The JSGME folder is untouched ( the standard one that comes with 6.40 ).
So far I've manually added just some ships and objects to the SAS folder ( added only the required lines to the various .ini files present in the STD folder ) all the rest is stock 6.40.
Somehow not a big deal because in the worst case I can manually add them where needed if the JSGME will continue not working.

Returning to the HD DLLs 1 and 2 thing...Which one of them do you suggest to use with an NVidia video card? ( GTX 1080 ti )

No idea, try and error.
If you pick the wrong one, all your 4K skins will be pink.
So as long as you have no pink skins, you're safe.

Downloaded onto a fresh, clean edition of 4.13.4m.Activated the following on JSGME: Forgotten Countries, FOV Mod, FX Small Collection, HD DLLs, Random Belt Start pos.

Only FOV Mod and Random belt are showing up in #SAS folder.

Deleted and started all again and same thing happened. Any ideas/help?

'Missing' mods do not have the #SAS prefix on name nor a #SAS file but do have SFS Auto files instead.

New to this game so thinking its something I'm missing, please go easy! ;)

I don't own this thing. I answer you in a generalist way about the principles of the game.
If a "mod" is loaded in the "SFSAuto" folder (it must be an "sfs" file) it is the game that will load this part.
You can see the loading indication in the LOG file !

It looks as if they are working except Forgotten Countries - I'm just getting base countries available in Quick Mission screen, I've noticed others complaining about this too so might it be the file we are downloading?

As for looking at the LOG file, I wouldn't know where to start - all Greek to me I'm afraid.

Hi, i have installed this mod act and the hud and map mods, all are excellent but now i am having a navigational beacon problem. i can see the beacon on the map "AM" etc and have realistic navigation on, also have the 3 items in the map mod read me with light turned to off. I cant hear the beacon or get the AN gage to respond to it. When i press the tab key i get a icon for beacon and have selected friendly from the frequency menu, also double checked to see im a blue player and the beacon is set to blue. Also can see the Lorenz beacon designator on the map as well, AN instrument will not respond and no audible tone tried switching to game stock and it works, tried removing both hud and map mod from sas folder and it dosnt work?? So maybe my problem is in the mod act itself?? Any help appreciated as im about to make a knickebein mission using the lorenz as a target marker. Also posted this on the map mod area in case it was map mod related.

Dear SAS~Storebror

Is it possible to have the maps in ModAct 6.4 (4.13.4) ordered by theaters like Eastern Front Maps, Western Front Maps like in ModAct 5.3 (4.12.2) in FMB? This is very convenient when selecting a map in FMB  :)

Probably this is just a matter of editing one of the ini or properties files that ship with Modact, but it's not my cup of tea.

Didn't realize I was violating any guiding principles.  My apologies.

Just looking for a solution to the exploding SB-2 issue, that's all.  For as long as this problem has persisted, anything is better than that at this point.  Besides, one of the choices offered affected only the exploding SB-2s, the other choice being a buttons file.  I went with the former.

No, I don't mean that everyone's getting a "virus error".
False positives are nothing new - in case of Modact, the "moddable" il2fb.exe which ships with it - and which has been around for decades now and is a known safe thing - is what triggers 99.999% of them.
Searching for "false positive" on this forum will yield plenty results.

TL;DR: Ignore the warning and carry on.

Mike,
It appears that Modact 6.4 will not work with IL-2 14.1.  I have a clean 14.1, never modded and Modact 6.4 crashes after the first small screen which reports 3.1.4 selector.  It appears that the crash is so quick that no log is generated.  Here is the initlog.lst, not sure this is from the previous run of the 14.1.

This modact is not made for 4.14.1; only for 4.13.4. Only a modact designed for a certain version will work with it: no modact made for one version will work with another.

This is even more prevalent with 4.14, because it introduced some rather nasty code to prevent mod activators from working with it.

So, you will need to get version 4.13.4 to use this modact.

Cheers, and happy modding

«No, I am your father»
I duly hope Gabriel is not my father.
Not because I'd dislike Gabriel in any way - I surely don't - but: My father is dead long time since.

Yes, if the campaign builder has not installed exotic mods.

Simply try any campaign, if this will not run delete...

Hi there!

Just wanted to share what I have achieved after using Modact 6.4 and 4.13.4 version, as there is not that much support when I started modding my game I was very lost, and could not find what could or couldn't install in this version. After some effort I have been able to install a lot of planes and would like to thank all people that works in this awsome simulator too!

Just to clarify, if someone just want to enjoy fliying go for 4.12 where there is much more support, I just wanted to tailor my game and also liked some features of the 4.13v, other than that it is just 7.5Gb of mods and only went for the planes I wanted, looking for them all arround here in SAS, aviaskins, mision4today and Freeil2modding, still missin some jewels like the farman-voisin, and found not possible to install F-14 (anything above SAS engine mod v27).

Here it is how it looks like my #SAS folder:

(https://i.postimg.cc/Dy94F5hc/Captura-de-pantalla-64.png) (https://postimages.org/)

anything with the 1956 tag needs the SAS engine mod adapted from Azura from aviaskins. Also note that I have only added planes I wanted to fly, there is a lot more you can run, just needs effort to make them work, but as you can see I have now ranging planes from 1907 to 2004! not bad!
