Title: Little help with DGen, got an error I don't understand
Post by: Venator77 on October 05, 2019, 04:44:37 PM
So I was playing with Germany Fighter Central and I managed to edit the Battle of France (1940_FranceB) and the Battle of Britain (Channel40) with almost no issues. Got through Battle of France, but when I got to Britain, I get a beep error. I can't make sense of the error message.

no idea what you edited exactly... but I'd say somewhere you maybe made a typo and now the syntax is screwed?

I did not edit the Channel40 operation at all. At least I don't think I did. Where would I have to look in order to fix this?

Would it be better if I sent my related DB and files over?

I don't know what's wrong so I can't do much at this point.

I tried to repeat your error and found that the France and Britain segment are not part of the normal Fighter Central setup.
So you must have modified something and most likely you didn't do it completely right.  Maybe you missed some files necessary for the whole campaign syntax...

This is what I did. I discovered an anomaly between the campaignDeC dat file and planesDeC dat file in which the plane file already had these two operations (with their choices) already written in, but the campaign file did not have the lines. I edited those operations in.

Then, I switched the stock aircraft in the 1940s operations with the mod equivalents (MB 152, D 520, etc) and after some trial and error, I got those things working.

Now, I'm not quite sure what's going on here, since both operations work fine on their own, but the switch was bugged. I presume it could be the result of my squadron selection, but I'm not too sure.

If you want, I can send over the relevant files in a zip file.

What this error...

Plane not found: 14,15,16
Can't find any plane matching 14 15 16

...usually indicates is one of 2 things:
1. Plane code/syntax is incorrect on the Ops file
2. The plane is missing from the "Europlanes" file -OR- missing from the "Channel40Planes" file. Probably the latter if you have not messed w/ it.

You can send me a zip file and I'll take a look if you like.

PS:  Not sure what type/nationality of a/c you are referring to when you state "MB 152, D 520" (French Moranes and Deotwines?)  and not sure what "14, 15, 16" means in the error message.

What this error...

Plane not found: 14,15,16
Can't find any plane matching 14 15 16

I have mostly added French planes to the EuroPlanes and France1940BPlanes. What I didn't understand is what plane is DGen looking for? I am certain there is no such aircraft.

Here is the relevant files. Not sure if this is all of them, so let me know what else you need.

OK TY.  Could take a few days for me to get to the testing.

I tested this weekend and did 3 runs for both Ops files.

1. First run using ALL your files thru went fine; campaign generated, was able to go thru 3 missions.
2. Second run failed on the first OP - France40 - stating no NN squad.  I used all your files except the Planes files.
3. Third one failed as well.

So, I'm sorry but I don't know what to tell you here.  But my gut tells me the issue is a combo of that =NN= squad and the new Armee D'L Air planes you added.
Tonight I'll test the "stock" files as that =NN= squad has me wondering if the stock ones worked in the first place.

A couple of additional points:
a.  Keep in mind the Plane files trump Europlanes when they are present - and you added the Frogs to both, which was not really needed.
b. I could not find that AMIOT heavy bomber in the "Air" file which lists all a/c in the sim and their correct sim name.  Did you add yourself?

I'll update when I can and sorry I could not pinpoint a cause here.

this one, first in Arme de l'air segment? (3.7.2)

Amiot-143                                air.AMIOT_143M                         1 NOINFO   f01     SUMMER

NN was introduced by the original game as French Normadie Niemen for the Eastern Front. Maybe the handling of that one is a bit special in terms of assigning aircraft to this faction... just an idea if you're looking for inconsistencies.

AMIOT = must have spelled it incorrectly when I searched - doh!!

NN, Normandie Nieman = good point.  Want to check the stock files as - maybe the issue is there ain't no Arme de L'air/French in DGen.  Could that be it?
Title: Re: Little help with DGen, got an error I don't understand

well, could be. You can't simply add any squadrons. The BOF campaigns do not have any other than NN so I presume that's the only possibility to get a French squad.
You need to assign aircraft and loadouts to a faction in Planes.dat, maybe that's the point? But you could check how this is handled in Stock EuroPlanes?

In the modded one we used there are entries:
Allies   France     Fighter         YAK_1                350 3000 3000 default                                  1
Allies   France     Fighter         YAK_9                350 3000 3000 default                                  1
Allies   France     Fighter         YAK_3                400 3000 3000 default                                  1

but only these three for "France" and all of these aircraft also have a "Russia" entry too, which maybe saves the day in case the "France" one is incorrect.... I don't have a stock set on hand to check if that's stock or not.

Hoiwever, the BOF campaigns use the "France" denomination in their Planes.dat files, so...

BUT...

All these planes also would have another allied country entry in EuroPlanes! Russia or England. So again, this could be a day saver, in case the France one is considered void and overlooked. Any Mod plane only added with "France" would have no fallback anywhere....

Wild ideas, I know;)

Tested CampaignsFrB - Normandie Nieman in Kurland.
- NN flies the Yak-3 only.
- No KurlandxxPlanes file to worry about.
- So removed the Yak-3 USSR entries from Europlanes.dat and...

...NO issues.  Campaign generated.  Multiple missions flown.

So...France implementation does not appear to be the issue and I am stumped here.  Sorry.
