Hello!
This is a mod that adds to your game a modification of the Spitfire Mk.IX - beer tanker.
This modification was in use in the 1944, when soldiers wanted to drink some in the Normandy
Modification is fully historical ;)

Cheers everyone!
-
Very cool and funny thanks Radge! :D
-
Nice idea,thanks. Down the hatch....
-
Thanks ! Now, I can have a drink ! Just a question : the beer tanks are supposed not to be dropped, right ? or only the ones with the parachutes ?
-
They are to drop as the fuel tanks ;)
In my 4.12 they drop perfectly (just fact).
-
And easily customisable too... ;D

Seriously, thank you very much Radge (and sorry Max, I guess the tanks skin is your work).
-
Nice job! ;D

AAAHAHAAH! ;D That looks GREAT! I love this new mod!
Thank you very much Radge. It looks very cool.
Many years ago I did a painting of this spitfire event in Normandy and in my research I found out
they actually carried the beer inside metal drop-tanks and not in wooden barrels. Like in the photo
posted above by Bison-M ,
But the wooden barrels under the wings do look extra cool. :D
Korrigan,
I don´t think they are my barrels-skins, but even if they are, you are OK to paint them over in your style.
Have fun with them!
-
As I know, a pioneer of this method (indeed - using metal drop-tanks, not barrels) was Polish pilot Flight Lieutnant Tadeusz Schiele from 308 Fighter Squadron.
I'm not sure if I remember well - another Polish pilot, Janusz Meissner wrote about it in his memoirs... I'll must check it ;-)))
Greetings for all,

Seriously, thank you very much Radge (and sorry Max, I guess the tanks skin is your work).
You're welcome ;)
But... All the work is done by Molva and skins were painded by Murd0c ;) :D
@max_thehitman
I knew you would love them :D

You're welcome ;)
But... All the work is gone by Molva and skins were painded by Murd0c ;) :D
So my thanks go to them also (and my apologies to Murd0c ;))

Cool mod! Do these actually function as droptanks?? ;D
Also, that tank that they are filling in Bison's pic, is that a droptank? That would be a nice tank option for our spits. I don't think I've seen it in game.
-
here is a real one with barrels instead of metal tanks!
Also: from http://ghostgrey.gaetanmarie.com/articles/2010/Modification%20XXX/Modification%20XXX%20-%20Beer-carrying%20Spitfires.htm : in reference to carrying beer in clean fuel droptanks...
''every man on the squadron would be watching you upon arrival. Anyone who made a rough landing and dropped the tanks would be the most hated man on the squadron for an entire week.''
Did spits, or indeed other aircraft have a habit of jarring tanks loose on bad landings? I've seen a vid where a wildcat lands hard and a bomb is thrown clear, which bounces along the carrier deck before exploding. Figured it was a freak event.

Thanks for this pic with wooden barrels!
The answer for Your question probably is in article, You gave the link:
"The Spitfire had very little ground clearance with the larger beer kegs"

In Brazil would put it like this: If you drive do not drink, if you drink call me.

Had a BC at 1987 Ft. Bragg that would ask after daunting tasks what we'd like..., but the Brigade Commander (did'nt frown), just said he'd have to let the rest of the Assault Drop have what they wanted. Seems if beer was permitted that dancing girls were the next choice. Really good idea finding this bird. Thanks for the memories. :P. Not that we did'nt get our beer after the issue had died. ;)
