Fixing Missing Engine Sounds ~ Explained
« on: September 16, 2009, 06:50:15 PM »

This explains how to fix a loss of sound for an aircraft's engine, if you have installed an SAS Soundpacth and it does not work for that plane, or, you want it to use a sound from another mod.

For an example, I will "Fix" a missing P51 engine sound:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You have LOST sound for your P51's, here is what you do:
1) Download the latest SAS Soundmatrix.
It is a SPREADSHEET that is INCLUDED with every SAS buttons download. Get the latest buttons, and inside you will find it.
2) In it, you will see that all P51's use the engine sound file called
motor.Packard-Merlin.prs
3) I am not going to explain what it does or anything about it, because this only seems to confuse the peoples more.
4) Now, follow these steps:
A) Do a search of your MODS folder, and search for a file called
motor.Packard-Merlin.prs
IF you find one, DELETE IT.
IF you find more than one , DELETE THEM ALL
B) Do a search of your FILES folder, for the SAME FILE, motor.Packard-Merlin.prs
If you find one, DELETE IT, and before you ask, for god sakes, if you find MORE THAN ONE, DELETE THOSE TOO.
C) LOOK at the sound Matrix spreadsheet, and identify a Rolls Royce or Packard Merlin soundfile that is currently WORKING for you.
FOR EXAMPLE: Spitfires MkVII to IX uses a prs file called
motor.Rolls-Royce-Merlinxx.prs
Check if your Spitfires MkIX in your game have sound. If tyhey do, move to next step.
D) Do a search of your MODS folder, for a file called
motor.Rolls-Royce-Merlinxx.prs
IF YOU FIND MORE THAN ONE: youre fucked. Pick the one at the top of the list and hope for the best.
IF YOU FIND ONE: Make a copy of it, and paste that copy RIGHT NEXT TO the original one.
(if you DONT find one, move on to below where that is picked up)
E) RENAME the copy you just made to (you guessed it...):
motor.Packard-Merlin.prs
~END
F) IF YOU DID NOT FIND a motor.Rolls-Royce-Merlinxx.prs in your MODS FOLDER, carry on from here:
Do a search of your FILES folder, for the file called
motor.Rolls-Royce-Merlinxx.prs
And when you find it, Make a copy of it, and paste that copy RIGHT NEXT TO the original one.
G) RENAME the copy you just made to (you guessed it...):
motor.Packard-Merlin.prs
and that is that.
~END
You can fix any missing engine sound problem this way, by yourself, and it is a good way for you to start learning something about this modding thing.
Thanks for the tutorial. Copied it to a .txt document in case I need it again. Did not have interior sound for Seafires/Spitfires. All I did was put a '-' on front of the preset file in the in the Merlin folder, ie.. (F:\Program Files\Ubisoft 6\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\MODS\Merlin\-presets) so the three sound files in it did not load, and wow! Lookee there, got my internal sounds back. Real easy once you know what/where to look for things.
