while we are at it.
Is it possible to change the AAA tracer colour in general to always look yellowish???
I just dont like the visual effect of attacking a convoy of ships and see green, purple, pink, and blue tracers coming up towards me. Looks very unrealistic.
I know that different nations used a different composition of chemicals to make their own tracers but it just does not look right to me... Is this possible with ur mod? Even the colour of the tracers from a distance??
Thx for a great mod!
Cheers!

Hi benitomuso. :)

Sorry for my English. :-[
There is nothing about your soberb smokes, they are perfect. ;D
This is what I mean: :)

The first is the IL-2 tracer and the second is a realistic tracer. ;)

santobr.

Santo,
the shape itself of the tracers is this one:

The one at the left is my one, the other is the stock one of IL-2. Length relationship is 1:5. But as you can see there is no "Comet" shape at all. The comet is seen as a result of applying the texture (a degradated circle) to the long two planes, and the "core" of the comet is generated by the small plane which intersects the other two.

I think (I'm not a 3d specialist) that removing this las plane, an homogeneous texture shoud create kind of a circular tracer, but it should be experimented.

  Regards,
                     Pablo

Anders,
You can do something as taking the yellow.tga file in 00__SmokeTrails\3do\Effects\Tracers\Textures and copy it to the rest of the .tga files, so all of them will become yellow. The problem is that when seen from away, the tracers are only lines generated by the game (not 3D objects), and it will preserve the theorical colors of the .tgas.

It's kind of complicated to make everything yellowish perfect and withoyt faults, I don't believe it deserves so much effort.

  Regards,
                      Pablo

Thank you for your reply, mate. :)
Maybe another texture map could make the work, what do you think?

Hmm, it should work with out smoke mod but tweaking would be needed. For example, Pablo has made his own textures to the ones E and I have used and so our textures would need to be used instead of his. I have not installed this mod, simply because I'd need to spend some time getting it to use the textures I like, and also to use the .eff file settings that I like. This may sound complicated, and I am sorry if this is the case, but I know that it could be done. ;)

Yes Phil ed,
it would be just the task of creating 3 levels of your effects (TrailThin, TrailCurved and SmokeBlack_BuletteTrail), which should be the normals with the original names, plus the Med and the Low for each, having shorter livetimes and sizes each.

The other main concept here is to reduce drastically the VisibleDistanceFar parameters of the materials. You still use 12000.0 which means that you will see it from everywhere.

Great little mod.  The tracers look much more in-scale now.  The fps increase is a real bonus too.

Nice one!  :)

Thank you for making this great mod. Finally, we have realistic looking ground fire! I would like to manipulate the transparency of the 'vapor' or 'condensation' trails though. I've tried changing the last number of the rgb values in the eff's, but to no avail. Any ideas? Thanks again for the mod and for any help from you or other members.

Lower or raise the values on the colour (color) lines. This has worked for me countless times. ;)

The new tracers and smokes make it much easier for me to hit enemy aircraft. Many thanks for this little jewel!

I looked around and found the original HG&P ricochet mod in my archives and added the "ricochet only" folder. Now I have exactly what I want.

Hmmm, after some trials, looks like i have succesfully ported P&E smokes to this tracer mod.  ;D

Now, i would like to further reduce the size the tracers, but there don't seem to have size parameter in the tracer mesh file (i assume body.msh as mesh).  can it be change by tweak these files or need special tools to recompile the tracers ?

Hi.
The .msh files are text converted (not compiled ones). You can import them to 3ds Max and edit them there or just open the text .msh and touch the values (the main group which is the object structure). But I checked using even smallers tracers and they really were too small. I think the ones I adopted are reasonably small but still visible from a distance.
