IJN Battleship Fuso

This is a model sourced from Maxromash which is extracted from another game. My work is limited to converting the model for use in IL2. I have always been facinated by the extreme pagoda bridge structures on the Japanese battleships of WWII, so here is the most extreme example. Fuso had one sister ship, Yamashiro. Both were sunk at the Battle of Surigao Strait on 25th October 1944.

The model is WIP, but is in a usable state. I will welcome comment on its effect on performance in other hardware. It works ok in mine which is a relatively good hardware spec.
The poly count is high so may cause problems to some.  I have it working in SASModAct5.3  Uses a couple of 2048x2048 textures.

Only the main guns and principal AA are enabled. The single 25mm AA and the secondary guns in the casements are static. Much of the minor detail and directors remains to import.

i recall playing world of war ships and seeing this thing next to a DD, its truly a monster the broadside is incredible, for a WW1 era ship it was still a power house in WW2, the lack of AA guns was its downfall glad to see shes finally in game and in all her glory

A powerful but virtually obsolete warship by the time of the Battle of Leyte Gulf. The Southern Forces only role was to divert US forces away from the main effort being made elsewhere. The two Fuso Class battleships ended up facing a US battleline of six equally old battleships. Their broadside of 24 14in guns were facing 48 14in and 16 16in guns, so they never had a hope in hell. In the event the force was worn down and depleted by attacks from US light forces even before they came to grips with the US battleline.   

Lack of superiority in screening destroyers, 11 against 19, meant that they were unable to keep the US Light Forces at a safe distance. By 1944 the Japanese navy no longer had the advantage in night fighting that they enjoyed earlier in the war.

I agree, the pagoda style gave these ships beauty and elegance,
beautiful though black and white photo of the battle bridge heavy cruiser Chōkai (鳥海) was presented by Zbigniew Flisowski in the book "Na wodach Guadalcanalu" "On the waters of Guadalcanal", unfortunately I can't place it here, but I found another one.
maybe it's not exactly a pagoda style, but it looks just as interesting.

It is however impressive to see it spitting out its venom with 3 of its turrets at the same time!  ;)

Work fine in my 4.09 ... but I've reduced the textures to 1024!  ;)

Have it working in 409 after converting the 2048 tga's to 1024. It's all good ;D

As I say in the first post, I've not created the model. My work is limited to importing it into IL2.

There will be an update, probably in a few days, once I've finished adding the details.
In ships.ini if you change the line //IsAirport      1  to IsAirport      1
then you can have a close up look using the   Shift F2  view.  Normally only used for carrier models.
