Transparent Pop-up Trees
« on: November 08, 2019, 02:03:02 PM »

Here is a very small little set of textures that make the game-generated pop-up trees transparent and hence invisible.

Ever had a desert map and despite whatever you try, you still get trees in very inappropriate places? By using these, you eliminate the problem without having to try and find a solution by adding a new layer to mymap_c or such.

Here is a download link
http://www.mediafire.com/file/fh98gbogsj04tzh/Trees_Transparent.rar/file

And here is a typical example of where they are put in a load.ini file:

  Tree0 = ag/Kagoshima/Transparent.tga  //Trees\AlteredBush9a.tga
  TreeLightMask = Trees\LightM256.tga

I'd suggest you put all 3 the transparent pop-up trees tga files into your map texture folder since no one will normally have these installed. Then direct the line to your map textures folder. Note that a load.ini only requires one line to use them in game, but that all 3 are needed for the map to work.

Good idea!

Given that this invisible tree object can be universally employed, the textures could be placed right in the 'root' Trees folder, and not in some farther-down-the-hierarchy folder. ;)

Furthermore, the textures could be made very small.

You can turn off the trees in the load.ini on each texture or you can call the textures *_fields.tga and add an empty tree tga file.
I use the desert trees which were in DBW: https://ulozto.net/file/RKBkeXtpgaFR/dtrees-7z

That is useful and (yet another) something I did not know. Thanks ...

But doesn't this change the texture's scaling, making it half size and thus occupy 1/4 the area? (Which is a way to make the ground detail look sharper from a given height--but also increase the tiling effect.)
