What a peaty!
This movie is focused to the men of USS Enterprise  so all other details of the Battle are sadly more or little overlooked!
Very strangely at a movie première on the red carpet there was a real FM-2 Wildcat from a near museum and inside the movie no trace of any F4F!

...and I'm guessing that you were one of the very few people to note the irony.

Such films (and also wwii sims) should really only be seen as entertainment and maybe as inspiration for some!
In order to learn more, you really should then look at one of the many eyewitness interviews and documentations on youtube or articles in the net!

Saw the movie as well, 100 times better than Pearl Harbor, little better than 76' version, pretty much stuck to history (at least for a Hollywood movie) mostly about Enterprise & Bombing 6, the characters were pretty well played - Nimitz, Halsey, McCluskey, Best etc., overall worth seeing.

Just returned from the cinema, worth watching, but why in the world there are no Wildcats?

Budget restraints probably. It is expensive doing good believable cgi.   Btw: please tell me the movie wasn't dubbed ... ha ha

Or they didn't want to get into with Northrup Grumman over royalties on the CGI models for the Wildcat like Il-2 did.  Dauntlesses and Devastators are Douglas which is part of Boeing now.

Watched yesterday. It's not as bad as you could judge by the trailer, but it's clearly inferior -- as a war movie -- to "Tora, tora, tora" or "Dunkirk" or whatever. Midway is not a story that has to be told from the beginning, and I think "The Final Six Days of Yorktown" could have been a much better movie.

Huh? Did a giant aviation corporation get into a dispute about royalties or rights over a cgi representation of something that is 70 years old? Seriously? How petty if that is so ... Are they one of the type of corporations where they think 'it's ours, all ours for ever and ever' ?

There comes a point where things don't belong to anyone in specific anymore.
