The Lion of Abyssinia (v2)
« on: October 07, 2019, 09:20:48 AM »

A 14 mission campaign spanning from 1930 until the Italian conquest in 1936.

You are a mercenary pilot, hired by the government of the Ethiopian Empire to help building a small air force.

You will soon be able to put your usefulness to the test when the noble Gugsa Walle tries to raise a rebellion against the Empress Zewditu....

The origins of the Ethiopian Air Force has been traced to Haile Selassie (at that time still called Ras Tafari Makonnen) witnessing a show of the British Royal Air Force in November 1922 in Aden. Having never seen an airplane before, he was captivated by this demonstration of their power and abilities, and spontaneously asked if he could go up in one of the biplanes.

As a result of this experience, he afterwards advocated the development of the Imperial Ethiopian Air Force. This small air arm began with the delivery of a Potez 25 to the capital Addis Ababa on 18 August 1929. The Ethiopian Air Force was organized by Mishka Babitchef, the first Ethiopian pilot, who was of Russian descent.

The first decisive action came in 1930 when airplanes were instrumental in winning the Battle of Anchem over a rebel force. This would later lead directly to Selassie I. becoming Emperor of Ethiopia/Abyssinia.

A few transport aircraft were also acquired during 1934-35 for ambulance work. The air force was commanded by a French pilot, Andre Maillet, who delivered the first Potez. He was succeeded by another Frenchman, Paul Corriger, who remained until the Italian conquest of Ethiopia, when the small air arm ceased to exist.

You will be flying mainly the Potez 25 but also the Dragon Rapide, the Staggerwing and the Moth.
