Couple shots of the PBY after that long and arduous mission to recon some enemy positions. Love the plane.

This 1st mission was sweet indeed.

Couple issues here:

-some skins seems not to be included in the download, in both 1st and second missions, briefing author says to use a skin that is not availabe.

-zero skins seem to be for the old zero model, they look pretty FUBAR on the SAS zero (or vice versa, a6m3 perhaps has the old model).

-in mission 2 friendly AI behaved quite strangely: despite warning them of the proximity of ennemy zeroes they refused to engage, racing to guadalcanal instead. I managed to swat the nasty flies off their tails  mostly, but still one got shot with the others not reacting. They decided to engage only between savo and guadal (leaving the flight plan on the branch that should have gone to tulagi), we had seen many groups (all fighters) by then that aggregated on our tails and were totally outnumbered, therefore we all died. I managed to take two with me but that's about it.

All in all a "could be great" experience, needs refinement to be enjoyed fully.

Had the same exact issue on mission two as well. Thought it was strange, possible solution would be to play the campaign as flight lead.

Hm, this campaign was sitting on my shelf for half a year... maybe I've forgotten about a few things while I was working on BAT? I was quite sure I had addressed the Zero skin issue - maybe it snuck back into the download, I'll investigate.

maybe stop playing until I post an update.

About the behavior of AI:
This is a game issue, it has nothing to do with mission building. AI is what it is and if you have no command position, you can not influence them, particularly if they are set to fighterbomb.... sometimes the AI seems unable to distinguish between behaving like a fighter or a bomber. Only commands wake them up.

And as JonRedcorn said, it always very much depends on your position in a flight.
I played this campaign as Squad leader for example (I usually do unless advised otherwise....) and experienced no overly bad behavior.
I strongly suggest to play at the very least as a flight commander to have some commanding abilities over AI aircraft. You can just as well be squad leader, just don't start with lowest rank.

here we go, that was quick.... version 1.2 posted

- indeed the PBN skin was missing, but that was already so in the original. I had that skin from somewhere else and added it now
- the Birdcage skin folder was mislabelled (CorsairMK1) I corrected that now.
- Zero skins fixed in upload.

was as I thought. I fixed the skins in PaintSchemes but somehow the old files got packed in the zip.

BAT 3.7.1. Yep, I had the same issue with the skins in the 2nd mission also - the JPNCAT-FLY skin did not fit the A6M3 correctly. I just changed them for other skins in FMB. The skins for the A6M3 Model 32 were OK.
I guess this was fixed in ver.1.3?

EDIT - just checked, and it has been. Thanks for all you work vampire.

Cheers

Hello:

There seems to be a problem with missions Slot_A1 and Slot_A2.

The mission files both call for map MAP NTL_Darwin_Small/NTL_Darwin_Small_load.ini and there is no such thing in my version of BAT 3.7.1. What can we replace this with or should I get the aforementioned map?

Just play the missions in campaign mode, there should be no problem.

How did you notice this? Do you have a problem playing the campaign?

Indeed the map is not listed but all the necessary files are there as it seems, burried in some old SFS files...
The only thing is, these missions will not open in FMB like this.

this map is a bit different than the Darwin version listed currently, most likely an older instance of the same thing. I plan to list this map as well in a next BAT patch.

I'm making changes to some of the missions. I hope you don't mind me doing this - it in no way means I don't like the missions and the work you've done is far better than what I've done in my old campaigns; the level of detail is out of this world.

Okay!! That sorted that. I just pasted the following line into the all.ini file under "Darwin_42                       Darwin_Dili_Ambon_42/load.ini":

NTL_Darwin_Small      NTL_Darwin_Small/NTL_Darwin_Small_load.ini

The map and mission now open in FMB.

I've just started the campaign but, being an inveterate fighter pilot (there are only two types of aircraft: fighters and targets), I don't like flying targets! I placed myself in a Corsair in the first mission and helped to escort the Black Cat. After that I went through some of the mission.properties files and found the ones where you fly the C47. I wanted to alter these but the map wouldn't open, as you said, in FMB. Now it does. The changes I'm making allow me to start at the lowest rank, placing me in a plane other than the lead, and working my way up to squadron lead.

Slightly off topic but related to:

Is there a way to get the very old, original, Ardennes map? The one where the airbase at Asth is on the bluff and has concrete taxiways, ramps and runway. My buddy and I made a lot of missions on that map from back in DBW days and I'd like to be able to bring them over and play them. It seems the text "Ardennes/sload.ini" usurps the same text used in DBW and gives the newer version of the map.

It is not my campaign, and I do not claim it to be!
This is DixieCapts campaign and I hope he would not mind me meddling with it if he was still around....

No, not possible, since as you saw, this map was overwritten by the graphic and geography update.
This is not the only stock map that was changed with updates over the years.

However, old missions should easily work, the only bummer is you'd have to reset the hight of any smoke or light placed, or it will appear in the air. You can simply set their heights to 0.0 in the .mis though.
I had to do this in the ACG campaign a lot as that Imphal map is also massively altered.

Well done again Vampire on another nice campaign set and for listing the number of missions in each set.Has anyone made a list of all the numbers of missions in each modpack campaign and the stock game. i.e BAT, Vpmodpack, Ypack, Stock Il2 1946, Dgen modpack, DCG.
I know half the fun is not knowing when the campaign will finish but sometimes when you have an hour or two to spare it may be nice to know if you can complete a campaign instead of a few QMBs.

With the skins issue fixed, it has become a fantastic experience, one that I've been longing for ever since slot map was released. Thanks a lot for adapting it Vampire and if he ever reads here, congrats to Dixiecpt for everything, from scenery to weather to briefings, it really is a masterpiece so far.

And, of course, thanks a bunch to mike for the x256 time acceleration, for pacific missions it's just absolutely mandatory imho. Playing 2 hours missions in 20 to 30mns depending on events is perfect for my available leisure time.  ]cheers[
