BAT Does Not Start; No Log File In Directory
« on: July 13, 2019, 07:10:25 PM »

I apologize that my first post on this forum is a cry for help, I've played the game for a few years and haven't needed to make an account. Anyways, My game has been updated to the Angel's High pack I believe, I haven't taken the time to update since my game doesn't work lol. I took a break from the game a couple months ago and just recently wanted to play it, although at random I am experiencing an issue that the game won't start. When I start IL-2, it gets to the little splash screen for BAT, and then closes a couple seconds after. As anyone would do, I went to look at the log file to see what the error was. Well, there was no log file. It's turned on in the config file, but doesn't show up anywhere. So unfortunately I can't provide the logs to help with the not-starting issue. Any help on the matter would be much appreciated, as well as anything I can do to help you all help me I'll try as well.

-Check what the line

LOGFILE=

is set to. I believe it's LOGFILE=log.lst as default but you can change it to something else if that will make it easier to find the log file

- Try updating your bat install, as the bat installers will clean up your install before they update which may fix the problem

- Reinstall from scratch

Try one or all of those options and then come back if you still can't get it to work.

I've tried the log file as a .txt and a .lst, neither work. Will try updating sometime soon and let you all know what happens.

A long shot, but you might also want to try checking you have ownership of the install folder, alternatively try running IL2 as admin and see if that will enable it to generate a log file.

I updated to v3.6 and it didn't work, will update more some other time. Running as Admin didn't have any effect. I do have control over the files, I checked earlier. :(

Are you launching the game with IL-2 Selector.exe?
If not, do that.

Using the selector has no effect, nor does changing the different eras/ versions/ whatever it's called lol

I understand, but I have no idea why I'm not getting a log file.
I can provide the initlog.lst as it shows up, but from what i see there aren't any errors in it anyways.

Use the Startup Debugger, see halfway down this post:

Thanks for the help Mike, but unfortunately I'm still stuck.
I ran the console.exe, but on its own it did not create the startuplog.txt, so I input the command to create it as you said in the other post. The startuplog.txt file was created, but neither running the console or the game exe itself produces any text in the log, it's still blank.
I feel like I should most likely reinstall, it makes me feel bad to waste your guys' time over this lol.

if running console.exe doesn't even give a single line of output - which by the way I've never ever seen happening - then there must be something seriously wrong and a complete reinstall indeed seems logical.
