Dreaded Pink planes, and Instant Crash of Game
« on: July 07, 2019, 11:48:40 AM »

I regret that my first post here must be one of asking for help, but I suppose I am not the first one to do so.

By way of background, I have successfully installed the BAT modules onto a different computer (Win 7 OS), and had no difficulties, other than, IIRC, needing to use an alternate DLL because I encountered pink planes.  Installed it, and no problems--on Win 7 installation.  Not so with Win 10 PRO installation.  Sparing you all the details, the Win 10 comp is such that it should have NO issues running BAT at highest settings.  Details if you request, of course.  I have not checked Nvidia site for any possible driver downloads, and will do so, and install them.  All the rest of the Win 10 machine is fully updated, AFAIK, but perhaps I overlooked something essential

I'm using V12.2M (patched up to that state from a clean V4.07) as a basis for BAT, using patcher/upgrader available here.  V4.07 was run successfully before upgrading with no issues.  V12.2M was run successfully with no issues.  Tried to install first series BAT install, and although successful install, the pink planes appeared.  I read the BAT Manual again, and installed BATDLL-02 over the default BATDLL-01, with no difference.  I am not running the game with any CD; didn't seem to be necessary.

Symptoms are:

1) Going to Tutorials:  (all IL2 tutorials within BAT), the Pink IL2 appears, without landing gear.  Just resting on the ground.

2) Using Quick Mission: the aircraft chosen has an instant crash on to the runway, as though its landing gear had suddenly vanished.  Fragments fly about, and bounce around.

I understand that I might be requested to supply logs of some sort.  This is somewhat new to me, so if you will be kind enough to tell me EXACTLY how I might find such logs, I will cut-and-past them here.  The game itself resides at root of "C" drive, and is launched by a shortcut on desktop.

I am not at the Win 10 computer location just now.  If I have omitted any pertinent info, please ask And I will provide it ASAP.

This Win 10 computer does run European Air War, and the related EAWPRO with zero issues, as well as some other flight sims.  This, along with the 2 initial versions of IL2 running OK, causes me to believe that there is something amiss with the initial BAT files installation, and/or the Config files therein.  I have tinkered with the Config  files a bit, always returning them to initial settings.  There's an "IL2 Setup" application which has dealings with graphics and other things.  Naturally my modern graphics card (Nvidia 2060) is not listed within the choices.  Does not seem to matter whether "Safe", "Default" or "Max" options are selected, nor "Custom" mode, not that I understand how to configure it.  All returned to "Default"  No joy.

I sure hope you all can help me.  Thanks in advance, RIBob

Use the search function here to find out how to provide a logfile. I think pink planes are something to do with missing textures/objects on maps???

I did a complete re-install starting from V4.07 of the game, and the fundamental problems have now disappeared, although I needed to use the DLL-02 to get rid of the Green aircraft.  All is well.

My only other issue is to get the BAT version of the game to play 1920x1080.  I have tinkered with settings within the game itself, and this has been unproductive.  I suppose I will need to edit the Conf.Ini.  Is this correct?  I have read the relevant Conf.Ini thread, but it's not altogether clear to me.

Thanks for the responses!

The config.ini is the way to go when changing resolution. And check the file isnĀ“t set to read only, otherwise your changes wont stick.

Well, looks like I spoke too soon.  I had built a  GTG BAT 01 install, tested it, ran the BATDLL-02, and everything looked fine.  4.07 and 12.2 games are still OK.

Next time I launched the game--and this is deliberately making no changes to the game,  the problem is back.  Pink planes lying on the ground, or instant Aircraft demolishment while on the ground.  To say I'm frustrated is to say the least.

I read some threads here, and I performed the Conf.Ini changes required to generate logs.  Where can these logs be found, exactly, once generated?  When I know that, I can provide some more info.

Thank you all for being patient with me.  Believe me, I want to give you all every bit of info required to solve this problem.  Again, once I know where the log(s) are hidden, I will supply them to you all ASAP.

You will need the log.lst file and it will be in the game root directory (the same directory as the il2fb.exe file).

I understand your frustration and i hate to add to it but...
If you would have spent any time reading TechHelp post, you would find a plethora thet explains the reason for "pink and explode plane on spwan" is not related to the dlls but mostly to incompatible missions loaded with incompatible loadouts to BAT. If you are playing old stuff that's not made in BAT, this can very likely be the case (and mostly easy to fix). And that the log will tell in more detail.

Seriously, this is another item that's repeated ad nauseam by anyone who wants to help and is actually written in the "help 101" sticky thread at the very top of the Tech Help section

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,49972.0.html

Read how to get the log here, and the instant log here.

When you want to post only the relevant parts from the log
read here how to do this. (code option!)

If you want to post all lines of the logfile we suggest to use https://pastebin.com/
to paste your log and then paste the link here which you got from them.
Read and see here how to do this.

Is your game installed in "C\Program files"? If so drag it out to anywhere onyour disc(s)! M$ has a nasty habit of denying users to cahnge things in the named folder!

RIBob, you obviously did not read Vampire Pilot's post about how to obtain and display your log. There are people here willing to help you but there is work to be done that you must do yourself.

all of the above

however, it tells me one thing:
2019-07-08 19:41:05:930    (wrapper) : MODS Folder = "#JTW2"

you are operating a BAT pre 3.0 Checkpoint Charlie
You need to update through the extensions.
