There is definitely something going wrong which isn't il2ge's fault.
I think I know why you are experiencing the crashes only with il2ge enabled - I'll prepare a new build to test that.

In my reply #41 in this thread I told Steven that it would not load, but now I think it would have loaded if I had kept on trying, just like in subsequent builds that you have sent me.

Both builds crashed - tried 30+ attempts to start both builds but was unable to start game with either.

and should I keep the archive library files in the game folder?

Just delete il2ge.ini.
I suggest you also delete the folder il2ge.

I've made the log more verbose in this build:

For this to take effect, you will also need to install this library:
Download https://github.com/jrfonseca/drmingw/releases/download/0.8.2/drmingw-0.8.2-win32.7z and copy the file bin/mgwhelp.dll to your IL-2 directory.

I only need a log from the crash this time - so no need to try another 27 times

I still have the above library installed in the root directory
