I've made the log more verbose in this build:

For this to take effect, you will also need to install this library:
Download https://github.com/jrfonseca/drmingw/releases/download/0.8.2/drmingw-0.8.2-win32.7z and copy the file bin/mgwhelp.dll to your IL-2 directory.

I only need a log from the crash this time - so no need to try another 27 times ;)

Pardon my ignorance;

I have copied the whole drmingw-0.8.2-win32 folder to my hard drive, and then copied the file mgwhelp.dll to the il2 root directory?

If this is the correct method then here is the resulting il2ge.log

The build took seven attempts to start then play mission, Stand By box loading - CTD at "Loading 100%"

Yes, the game gets to main menu, open FMB, open mission, press play, mission loads and crashes at 100%

BUT - with the previous builds, the mission actually loaded and I could fly the mission; the problem was that it was taking (for example) 27 attempts to start the game (ie the small "loading" splash-screen appears, then crashed back to the selector)
This latest build only took seven attempts to start but, of course, as I say it crashed when mission is loading.

So, in some ways the previous two builds that you sent were better in the sense that a mission could be played, albeit after a very protracted series of starts.

Looks like this build did the trick.  ;D
It still takes several attempts to start the game (which I can live with), but it plays fine - got the cirrus clouds (great, by the way) and black sky (not so great) as per other users.
Despite the experimental nature of il2ge, the lighting and graphics look superb!!
