All you need to do is generate + download what's available and then connect the files with a single campaign.ini. Then you got a scripted JG54 campaign which can span the whole war. I can tell you how and what to do if you're willing to do a little work with a text editor and the fmb. It would way more easier, than starting from scratch in Lowengrings DCG. The downside is that a scripted campaign is always the same, hence has less replay value compared to autogenerated campaigns.

Aye, that's the issue with me though. I'm just not into scripted campaigns, because I know everything that's going to happen.

I tend to like the idea of not meeting the enemy every single mission I play. So, my DGen campaigns that I've altered to ops file for reflect that. For instance, below is just the "Freehunt" section of my modified ops41-N.dat, that I use in my games.

As you can see, it's greatly expanded from the original and on a number of occasions, my flight will meet no enemy (0F). Thus, it makes encounters a complete unknown quantity and therefore missions are more exciting. I could fly 4 or 5 missions in a row and meet no one. Then on the 6th be overwhelmed by the VVS.

With a scripted campaign, that cannot happen.

Of course, a lot of folk would find that tedious, I know. But, I like it better, as it reflects the reality more. Most aerial ops don't intercept the enemy.

In any case, I am playing a modded IL21946 at the moment, 4.13.4 using the DGenMod 2.1 mod, ( http://forum.aviaskins.com/showthread.php?t=4386 ). It has a great western front campaign (see the campaignsDE26.dat file below), going from the phony war to just before Barbarossa. There's an excellent map of France and of the Channel coast. It uses Asura's modded DGen, so it can access the new maps.

However, that mod is absolutely crippled with issues, regarding sound and bizarre AI behaviour, which makes it unplayable. The sounds keep disappearing or are too low to hear (like the gun sounds) and the AI acts in a very strange manner. For instance, my flight can never keep up with me, even when I am fly at 60% throttle. And if I hit autopilot, my plane won't stay with my flight leader. I've never seen anything like it in any version of IL2.

Aviaskins is a Russian site and I haven't a clue what they're saying over there and Google translate is only of so much use, so I don't think there's any point in joining and asking questions about the mod.

I suppose it comes down to this...if a version of DGen that uses Asura's DGen mod can access these great new maps, like the Channel Coast, then surely it's possible to make a grand DGen campaign where the player starts off in May 1940 in the west and transfers to the stock Russian Front maps in June 1941?

Unfortunately, I'm just not up to scratch in my understanding of these mods to make it happen myself. Yet...anyway.

Ok, now I see that you have more knowledge about this stuff than the average user and you know exactly what you want.
Back in the day I went thru the same, I wanted modded dgen campaigns in my modpack for each nation with mod and stock maps mixed, starting in 1939 and ending in 1945. I tried DCG and Asuras dgen an had similar experiences (bugs/lack of info and tech support/language barrier) so I went back to stock dgen with EnjoyR's Dgen Patch 5.2, at least that works even if it is limited to default maps. My only knowledge about dgen consist of basics stuff like mission template editing and increasing plane numbers in dat files and assigning skins to squadrons.

Well, my knowledge is vastly limited, compared to some of the folk on here. I've been seriously impressed with the leaps and bounds that have been made over the last few years. Years that I wasn't playing the game LOL  :(

As for my knowledge, I know how to make or edit stock DGen campaigns, using the stock maps (they're fairly straightforward once you connect the dots). I know a campaign.dat file connects to "map" file, which connects to .mis files, which connects to a Planes.dat file, which connects to a squadrons.dat file. (e.g. campaignsDeC.dat  --->  Lvov41.DB  ---> ops41-N.dat  --->  planesDeC.dat  --->  squadronsDeC.dat  --->  Lvov41Blue.mis/Lvov41Red.mis) and elements within those files can be changed, such as flights in the ops41-N.dat file, or the number of mission days in the Lvov41.DB file.

My problem is how to take those pre-existing stock campaigns and mix them with the new maps, using Asura's modded DGen campaign generator...and that I just don't know how to do.

BTW, I've never used "EnjoyR's Dgen Patch". What does it do?

I use dgen pack and have no issues like you are stating with the AI, I use google to translate their aviaskins website. Maybe ask some questions over there about your issues. Dgen pack 3.0 is coming and with it some extremely amazing stuff from motorhead. His stuff is pretty much unrivaled. His PTO stuff is unrivaled by any static or stock dgen campaigns. I may be able to help with some stuff as I've basically just been learning lots of stuff in a short time. I am not well versed in making anything just getting all the files where they need to be.

Also may I suggest getting a 4.12 install with HSFX installed to 7.03, there you can add all of Boelckes amazing campaigns he made on his axis and allies website. They cover the entirety of the western front, the MTO and there's also Murmansk. It's a bit of work to get all the correct files in place but once you do there's nothing else like it.

My problem is how to take those pre-existing stock campaigns and mix them with the new maps, using Asura's modded DGen campaign generator...and that I just don't know how to do.

Basically, you need to build two mission templates for each map: the Blue.mis and the Red.mis (you may find examples ad libitum inside your DGen folder). Open the map you want make the template for in FMB and add airports, towns, bridges (procedure is descibed in all Asura's DGen Readme issued so far - earlier in English - latest, the 2.0.5.0 has an excellent translation by vonOben) and the various objects (moving and static vehicles, static aircraft, AAA, etc.). Put "blue" stuff wherever Blue Army will be during your campaign, same for "red" stuff.

Call that map in yout DB campaign file and don't forget to have in your MOD folder inside DGen directory the required AF and Towns files (BR is optional) to allow the generator to know their position. Give a value to towns into your DB file starting from last BLUE city to be conquered, and then proceeding along the advance of BLUE forces on the map (if retiring, you'll start from an high number, applying then negative numbers). Watch and understand existing campaigns for all what I'm now mentioning and not: I cant explain you everything in a spot.

Sure. I know how to do this. I've edited the Blue.mis and Red.mis files for stock DGen campaigns.

Call that map in yout DB campaign file and don't forget to have in your MOD folder inside DGen directory the required AF and Towns files (BR is optional) to allow the generator to know their position. Thanks for the help. Seriously, any is good.

A question for you though. Does Asura's 2.0.5.0 work with the stock DGen campaigns? I've tried to install Asura's DGen onto stock IL21946 4.12 and they didn't work. But, I am probably doing something wrong, no doubt.

Sure, it works. But with some shrewdness. All next versions of Asura's DGen are less and less compatible with stock campaigns, and Asura himself warned that after his DGen_mod v2.0.1.2, no more compatibility was guaranteed.

Speaking of 2.0.5.0, the requirements for compatibility are twofold:

I). You must add at the bottom of your DGen_mod.ini file the option OldStat. Otherwise you will miss all static objects, among others AAA and static aircraft.

II). You must use in your ops file the New Mission code, since old one is no more recognized (e.g.: "oRedFTransfer" instead of "oUsFTransfer"). Same for LW, which becomes BLUE, and VVS, turned into RED.

WARNING! I'm speaking of stock missions "as they come with vanilla installation of the game", if you build your own mission templates (Blue and Red), be aware that in 4.12 and higher they already get static object format required by 2.0.5.0, so YOU MUST NOT add the option OldStat to your DGen_mod.ini file.

For all important details, please refer to vonOben's manual translation that you may download clicking HERE.
