BAT 3.6 Part 4 fails to extract
« on: April 16, 2019, 01:25:12 AM »

Am I the only unfortunate man here encountering this error in installation?
(I used the 3.6 installer immediately after I had a clean installation of 3.5 without messing around with the JSGME. I cannot possibly imagine what could go wrong. I had a Chinese language operation system but the game folder is all in English and none of the previous bat packs have run into any trouble as such.)

Help....

Yep, you're probably the only one so far.
You can just extract BLITZ_BAT04.zip to your BAT folder manually.
All other necessary steps have already been performed at this stage.

Hi lt_eurofighter,

vampire_pilot kindly asked not to post technical help in this topic

Since the installer got that far, just do this:

1) Manually delete #DOF3, #TGA3, #WAW3, #JTW3 from your game
2) Manually extract BLITZ_BAT04.zip and move the new #DOF3, #TGA3, #WAW3, #JTW3 folders to your game

If you need further support, create a new topic in the BAT Tech Help section.

I've moved this out of the release thread.
Just one remark from my side...

1) Manually delete #DOF3, #TGA3, #WAW3, #JTW3 from your game
That's not necessary anymore, at this stage the installer did that task already.

Do you guys also have the Hind FM named after those Chinese lookalike but surely non Chinese characters 袣芯?懈褟? Could that be the problem?

Yes that is the problem, but the file is just a dud and does no damage other than just being there.
The real Hind FM file is just called "HIND", in can be found in the same folder.

thanks boss your manual solution works like a charm and I just had a tour in the game with all the new aircrafts. So far so good. I just hope that this glitch is just crossed over so that when and if the 3.7 pack comes no subsequent problems would emerge. I do love the smooth installation of the BAT series in spite of the knowledge that modding mannual is fun, just as I did with the equally magnificent VP megapack. Thanks again and it has to be said that you saved my day.

We will take care of this in coming updates.
This one hit us because on our systems, the file gets extracted to "ðÜð¥ð+ð©ÐÅ HIND" which is a valid windows filename, whereas chinese systems see it as "袣芯?懈褟 HIND" which is invalid ("?" character).
The original filename encoding was probably russian, god knows...

Files like these will be removed from future BAT versions.

I would be more than happy if one of my random guessings in pure darkness turns out to be contributing to refinement of further updates to this immortal series, debugging wise. Love you guys

"ðÜð¥ð+ð©ÐÅ HIND" is the western windows display of the original cyrilic "+ хинд"  (source cyrillic encoding KOI-7  "Код Обмена Информацией-7" the old original "Russian ASCII" ), that gives in direct latin transliteration "+ HIND".  Ukrainian modders appear to still use this encoding quite often, for some reason of their own - perhaps they use a non-windows based system? .

for some reason of their own
...which we will not support further on, because it just doesn't make any sense.
Thanks for the heads up though ;)

*bump*

For those who are facing the same issue, the BAT Release Post holds an update Installer file which automatically skips files like the "broken" HIND file (BAT 3.6 only contains that single "broken" file).
All you have to do is visit the BAT Release Post and download a fresh copy of the Installer.
Torrent Downloads will still ship the old Installer because it's not possible to update running Torrents, but people who have used the Torrent Download can simply grab the Installer from the BAT Release Post and overwrite the Torrent's Installer with that new one.
