"V-J Day In Times Square" Sailor Passes

George Mendonsa, who is recognized as the sailor captured kissing Greta Zimmer Friedman in Alfred Eisenstadt's legendary V-J Day In Times Square photograph, passed away today at the age of 95. Although the identity of the sailor has long been a subject of debate, Mendonsa is generally accepted to be the most likely of all the claimants.
