Direct x works, opengl not so much
« on: January 23, 2019, 04:00:03 PM »

 A tale of 2 settings:

OpenGL:
800 X 600 Windowed Default setting everything set to low. Stutters and jerks

FPS count was :0 ????

DirectX
Full screen 1360 X 768 everything set to low. Smooth enough to watch. I loose my wireless k/b & mouse. Could not get FPS count but it was smooth. So if it can run under one, why not the other?

Game is IL-2 Ultimate edition
When first installed it was at 4.11.1 if i remember correctly. Yes, I have the original install and another folder for patching. Patched to 4.12.2.
Gpu performance is the same on both original and patched when in opengl.

System is about 8 years old?
400W power supply
8 Gig ram
Core 2 E6550 2.33Mhz
Onboard Intel GPU 3100

I think that this system is probably below what is need, but when the Direct X ran smoothly, I thought there has to be a way to get opengl going.

Should I be selecting one of the gpu's listed in the game?  Could that cause damage?

Thanks for reading

Thanks Cloyd,

Well that is disappointing.

Perhaps it is time to start saving for a cheap used gpu that has not been used for coin mining.

My board has a 75w pcie slot and a 6 pin connector.

Time to put some toonies away.

Is there a buy and sell here? j/k

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Core 2 Duo E6550 was begun to sell in July-2007.
So (besides when you bought the PC) its architecture was 2007 standard one ..... 11.5 years ago.

I'm not sure such old system can handle current video card.

Same era GeForce GPU was 9800GT ~ GTS240/250 ......
Perhaps GT440 generation is available.

Isn't DirectX mode OK without any hardware retouch ?
