NG-HUD and Ultra HD screens - looking for testers
« on: January 10, 2019, 02:37:08 AM »

Hello,

NG-HUD is currently not ready for Ultra HD resolutions. You can make the text larger but it won't look good.

I have a version that should work ok, but I need testers to confirm default font sizes are good.

Can you run IL-2 with resolutions below?

2560 x 1440
3840 x 2160 or 4096 x 2160

Then please enlist here to test v3.2 or send me a PM. Thanks for your collaboration.

Regards,

If nobody replies: I don't run 46 in Ultra HD, my resolution is only
Quote
width=3968
height=1080
span over 3 monitors (1024+1920+1024*1080), but probably it would be possible to change size and positions of the HUD/text?

I am on 2560x1440 but have very limited time for testing only.

Thank you guys for the responses.

It is interesting to know MaD you are using a resolution of 3968x1080. I didn't think about three-monitor setups. IL-2 uses the screen width to determine font sizes and that means, the way I have things now, you would get a huge font size when you just need a font size to fit a 1920x1080 resolution.

[...] but probably it would be possible to change size and positions of the HUD/text?

I guess the speedbar gets placed in the left-most edge of your left monitor and the log in the right-most edge of your right monitor? Far from ideal if that's the case. I noticed some videos where HUD elements are nicely placed in the middle. I wonder what triggers that. What happens in your current setup, MaD (with and without NG-HUD)?

Thank you Mike. I will try not to waste your precious time.

It is as simple as elementary arithmetic, isn't it? If a font size of 14 is ok for a 1920x1080 resolution, then double the resolution, double the font size, right? a 28 font-sized orders-pad takes two thirds of my 1920x1080 screen :D

Well, at the moment I have no actual picture of my setup. But an older one. Your right, the hud are on the left and right and it would be nice to have them on the center monitor. My setup is a 27' in the middle and 2 17' upright monitors on the side. I will try to take a picture tomorrow and send it to you with activated mods.

Isn't "Use3Renders=1" in conf.ini supposed to do just that?

Well, yes and no. It works, if you have 3 identical monitors. For me this divides the picture in 3 parts left and right in the main screen as it divides the resolution /3.
So the hud is somewhere between the middle and the side of the main screen.
The side monitors are native 1024*1280, but I use a custom resolution with 1024*1080 to have the same height as the main monitor. The picture on the side monitors are a little bit stretched, but this is nice for the peripheral view simulation ;-)
It would be nice to have the ability to move the hud and log like the textbox(chat) or even the map.
In terms of this, Cliffs of Dover is the ultimate simulation for customising the screen. Don't know, if we could get this for 46?!

Thank you MaD!

I can add a couple of conf.ini settings to adjust the HUD to your liking. Something like:

[Mods]
ngHUDleft=1024
ngHUDright=1024

It will take some time to go through all HUD elements but I will share a beta with you as soon as it is ready.

It would be nice to have the ability to move [...] the map.

You can move the map around with a right + left mouse click, and then drag it.

Wow, the con.ini settings would be great! A dream comes true ️!
The moving of the map is an old il2 behavior...

[Mods]
ngHUDleft=1024
ngHUDright=1024

Works great in a first test. Totally overwhelmed to find the hud for now, but will get used to it and will be thankful for the rest of my life :-D
First tried for right: -1024, as normaly it counts from the left, but you thought for all and 1024 was best setting for me!

Thanks MaD for the report!

A friendly *bump*

Anyone with a screen resolution larger than 1920x1080? There's a beta around with escalable HUD backgrounds and font position adjustments for ultra HD screens.
