Uzin's no canyon river method check it out
« on: December 27, 2018, 03:45:13 AM »

Uzin's way:   :D ;) :)

1. open map_h.tga in Gimp.
2. select all rivers and lakes.
3..increase the selection by 10, 15 or even more pixels.
4. subtract the rivers and lakes from this selection (there is option in Gimp to do so).
5. make gaussian blurr of the resulting  selection, with about 3 pixel choice selected.
You will obtain wide valleys instead of canyons. Try various widths in point 3 above.
Good luck !

I didn't quite work from a map_h .I worked from a separate layer then merging on to map_h
I didn't go as high as Uzin's grow selection from 3 pixels to around 7 pixels
I also gaussian blurred a few more times a single selection just for good measure and the entire layer once work was complete for a country or major river

Mekong River

Thailand rivers

This map covers Most of Laos, some of Northern Thailand and some of Vietnam for ho chi minh trail
Most of Air America's Lima L and LS (surfaced) sites in Laos down to Savannakhet
Udon Thani and Nakhon Phanom

Don't forget your just looking at the rivers still pretty awesome Uzin.  ;D :D
Next up a few major Rivers in Laos, Vietnam and China

Cheers,
Kirby
